  1. I see Butcher's predecessor Pat Fenlon has been offered a couple of jobs in the island of Ireland. I think he'd be a good choice for a number of Scottish clubs. He underestimated the SPL during Hibs but given a clean slate, his background and the benefit of experience, I could really see him do something. Agree?
  2. McKay did run dry but I'd put that more down to the playing style robbing him of chances more so than an almighty downturn in form.
  3. That's an interesting point there. Going by this forum over a few years, both Robbo and Pele still seem well liked. Brew not popular as a manager but no animosity as a person. In fact, I remember even suggesting that to get us to the end of the season, a makeshift dream team of Pele, Robbo, Shearer and Christie in various roles should have been considered. Other people might disagree due to perceived talent but not many because they moved. For us and Butcher, it was all about that final Inverness v Hibs game. A disgrace that soiled everything. Professionalism is all we asked.
  4. I just can't see McCall going to Hibs. What could he gain? A play-off place? Third? His stock is pretty high right now. Certainly Rangers or English Championship/top Div 1. It's not just about money for him either, as has been shown in the past. Danny Lennon would probably be uninspiring but I think he'd be good for them. I'd prefer Neil Lennon mind you. Let's see how good he is without the cash. Not great I suspect.
  5. Thomson and McPake were possibly Hibs best players. Obviously some big problems between them and Butcher but they would have been big players in the (groan, must I use this term?) Championship. Ian Murray the obvious contender with people like Jimmy Calderwood/Nicholl in there of course too. It'll be interesting as we could see whether it's a promotion-drive or a long-term solution. I suspect it will be little money but expecting promotion against a better Rangers and Hearts, then another sacking.
  6. I suspect it's a dispute between Rod Petrie and Leeann Dempster. Petrie looks at the books and doesn't want to spend money on getting rid. Dempster looks at a successful team and doesn't think Butcher is tenable. Just a guess mind you but that's what I see from my comments.
  7. Just like Moyes, Butcher's never had 'his team'. But just like Moyes, I can't blame the Board for saying 'we don't trust you with money after what you have done so far'. Just completely lacking in class. No sympathy.
  8. P&B is just impossible. Full of vermin who think the phrase 'touch of a rapist' makes them into Billy Connolly. Mention who you would play in any position in a team and you get "he's p!$h". Any attempt to get a more coherent answer out of who should play there, gets the "anybody but him" or "my granny" or something equally uninsightful but never a reasonable suggestion. The merest hint of differing over football tactics gets a chorus of "shut down this thread" with the 'no bigotry' rule pushed beyond breaking point. Unfortunately, so many forums just degenrate to that. Look at the Scotsman for isntance. No way are the majority of those cretins ever buying anything without a red top. I'd love a genuine Scottish forum that could just talk tactics, players and managers in a really dull Alan Hansen way. That's what football is for me, far more than overhead-kicked goals and trophies. Not spectacular and boring probably to many but fascinating to me.
  9. Just for the record, as a man I never liked him. I was a happy clapper but am now putting the boot in. Can't see any problem with that.
  10. Well said Lawrence. Scotland should support their neighbour England. After all, England are well known for their unstinting love for their neighbour France.
  11. Grew up and live in Scotland, so I'll support them. Didn't they? Well, I'm Canadian-born, so come on the Maples! No? Wife's Egyptian, so Pharaos it is! Not them either? Ah well, I'll just have to go a little bit back in family history and cheer on Northern Ireland. Are there any bloody teams in this poxy tournament???
  12. The statement first posed sounded pretty bitter. Maybe as an sidenote, this might have got a better reaction. It's always interesting to hear about the background of a club. That's why we read biographies. Of course it would have been fascinating to hear what happened during Tel's or any manager's time. I still don't blame Butcher for taking us down (or Tokely or Fraser). It was amazing we even had a chance after clinging onto Brewster for way past his sell-by date. And he did well for us eventually. Aseveryone said, the problem was the leaving scenario.
  13. Scott Brown? An unsung hero? He's the captain of Scotland for gawd sake!
  14. See for yourself http://www.heraldscotland.com/mobile/politics/referendum-news/seven-out-of-ten-scots-back-ukip-policy-on-immigration.24278719
  15. In a poll 5 days ago, 70% of Scots agreed with Ukip's immigration policy. They don't yet vote for them in mass numbers but it doesn't mean that an independent Scotland wouldn't turn towards the right (after all, aren't the Yeses always crowing about how it's not voting for a party?). Can't say I'd be desperate to replicate Bradford, Small Heath or Tower Hamlets here either.
  16. Does it matter? Did his job well. Left in terrible circumstances.
  17. Munro would have helped and was treated shoddily. Tokely would have been a great squad player if that's what he wanted but not first pick by any means. Duncan, unfortunately, had had his time. Not trying to demean him but that's just how it goes. Still I'm surprised he's getting a chance to stay with Ian Murray riding high.
  18. Wales. Cardiff are obviously not in the Welsh league but neither are any of the Welsh Premier League teams based in Cardiff either.
  19. You've got to feel sorry for Terry. As he said: "When you're relegated, you deserve to get relegated and it's over the piece, it's over the whole season and not just the last game" Maybe if Terry had taken on Hibs before they were in the relegation zone - say mid-season, on the edge of the top six - he might have managed to keep them in. But, let's be honest, it was an impossible job for any manager faced with trying to overtake a club with the budget of Partick Thistle. Mourinhou couldn't have beaten an Accies side with household names like Routledge, Longridge and Andreu. Let's hear it for a true hero and a died-in-the-wool Hibee, Mr Terry Butcher. Let's hope he keeps his dream job.
  20. Right enough. All our current players were first-teamers in the upper echelons of the EPL. If a team is in the lower leagues, it means there isn't a single player that could go higher, so we should only try to sign players from teams above for a transfer fee we don't have, for wages we can't afford. Just as we always have.
  21. Paul Hefernan for me. I've also heard a few Hibees say Kevin Thomson is still their best player despite Butcher rarely playing him.
  22. Thought Hamilton deserved at least a draw. Thought creating chances might be a problem but they did enough of that. Couldn't take their chances though, which is quite amazing given how many they have been scoring.
  23. I agree we are all British so Scots should support England. After all, if you look at the EPL, in Manchester, the United fans were all cheering on City as they are all from the same area. That's also why Rangers fans are delighted that Celtic are winning the SPL, so at least they can enjoy their fellow city-dwellers bringing home the trophy to Glasgow. There is really no room in football for any sort of rivalry. Let's take a lesson from the SPL/SFL playoffs where the fans of Hearts and Hibs will, as ever, sit together cheering on the Edinburgh team. Any Edinburgh team. After all, they are near each other, so why would there be any animosity?
  24. It was a great season this year. I don't think many are demanding better (maybe hoping for). The fear is that the second half results will be the norm and we won't reach that top six that the squad is easily capable of. I don't think anyone is being unrealistic in the squad playing to their ability and netting at least 6th place or higher. 6th place would be acceptable but 5th place must be the aim. I don't see anyone outside those above us being able to match our squad, even with a wee bit of investment (can't see more than that) from St Mirren or whoever.
