  1. Surprised. He seemed to be a regular, even captain on occasion. He's actually more suited to the passing play than Warren or Meekings but I don't see we need change in there. Be a good signing for a Dundee U or Aberdeen.
  2. The reason people were moaning wasn't that we finished high but well...is it not obvious what happened? Realistically, this settled team is easily top six. However, I expect to be below that as I have no confidence in the manager. It will certainly be interesting.
  3. Could we also close down the betting forum as I don't enjoy them? Mind you, I don't look at them for that very reason. Maybe there's a lesson to be learnt there?
  4. Would have no problem with Jim Goodwin. Think Foran would. Can't see them getting on.
  5. Don't think Clarkson or Miller are really for us but, yeah, check out Little by all means. The only problem this season was injury, otherwise maybe he would be signing a new Rangers deal.
  6. They're all terrific players. Not sure how they'ds fit in though. I'd actually see about McDonald. Yes, Brill has been a decent keeper but Jamie would be a step up. Wouldn't say no to one of the other two but, as I say, where do they fit? Actually, thinking about it, we have to sign Hamill. Just imagine li'l Derek Adams face. Ooh, glorious!
  7. Hear that St Mirren? The grass isn't always greener. Very interested in who will be their new manager.
  8. Thought caleyboy was desperate to close this thread?
  9. Coventry: surprise sacking after doing so well Sunderland: uninspired Motherwell: terrific but left for greed Sydney: rubbish Brentford: rubbish ICT: terrific but left for greed Hibs: rubbish The guy would have given up that blood soaked English patriotism if Germany offered a couple of Euros more. No sense of loyalty. I've a fraction of Tel's cash but learnt a long time ago a few bawbees means nothing when it comes to job satisfaction. How many times can a man waste his opportunity for long term success.
  10. Nice of Sky to select the enthralling Celtic v Dundee United to show. The most meaningless game on show. Even St Mirren has the Danny Lennon stay or not aspect.
  11. Hopefully the Jags will pull through. Straight up with little money. It's no surprise they struggle. Killie v Hibs though. Two teams with reasonable players, a bigger budget than us and total lack of form. It'll be a great match. Hope it's televised. Unfortunately, Killie seem slightly worse than Hibs but here's hoping they upset the form book. I guess the 'up' is that Hibs have played no' bad recently but can't win. Killie haven't, so maybe an upsurge in form (i.e. get the ball to Boyd by any way possible) might mean a goal or two.
  12. Well, it's a point that you failed to explain that I was replying to, hence why I began with a question. Don't bother to reply though. A bad attitude to a reasonable response gets you ignored.
  13. Do you mean people like al Quaeda and associates? I disagree with that. They've had no problems killing anyone, be they British, French, German, Egyptian, Kenyan, Pakastani or anyone not part of their ideaology.
  14. We can't come to a conclusion about how much it would cost to pay off Hughes as we don't know the contract. I would be surprised if we couldn't as Yogi would be in a weak negotiating position during hiring. The 'needs to be given time' argument is basically what the thread is about. Will it cost more and be more damaging to allow Hughes that time given his record here and elsewhere? I think we will come to regret it, both in a football sense and financially.
  15. I couldn't agree more. Just look at the comments by RiG and DoofersDad. They haven't even mentioned that we're one win each against Ross County (a very proud record if you ignore the first one). Although they're talking about tactics, you know, deep down, that it's really his weight that they want to criticise but they're just too scared. They're not actually making any personal comments but it's implied they hate him due to factors other than football. That just makes it worse. One thing you can't say about Hughes. He's no plonker of a manager. Both Alex Ferguson and John Hughes have had bad starts to their management of their respective clubs, so just imagine how good we will be soon. The only difference is SAF took over a team needing an overhaul as they were relegation material, whilst Yogi took over a team in second place with games in hand. But is that really important if a defender enjoys training? After all, Warren sees more of the ball now than he ever did under Butcher.
  16. Yeah, but as Yogi says, if we're under pressure at the back, what do we do? Just lump it up to Celtic? We should play around at the back, then maybe, in a year's time, we'd be like Brazil 1970! The only other alternative is to lump it up to one of our players. Can't see Warren liking that in training.
  17. C'mon. Be positive. What would you rather have? Playing Butcher's style and only drawing 2-2 (we'll never match them, of course), then losing 1-0 versus Celtic, or Hughes style where, yes this year, we might get pumped by eleven goals to nil, but next year, after a close season when Hughes has got rid of dross like McKay and Warren and got some right good laddies in that can play like Barcelona, we will be beating Celtic by 7-0! BELIEVE!
  18. Hey, hey, hey DoofersDad. We must be supportive of Yogi, remember? It's the negativity of the fans causing the bad results, so we have to be positive. It's pretty clear Meekings and especially Warren can't play the Yogi way, so Warren must go. I know he loves the training but he's an old style central defender. No room for that in the new Barcelona. Then we can bring in a ball-playing central defender. Danny Wilson is probably available soon. He would be a big increase in wages but we must support Yogi in getting rid of the truly appalling players we have. Come on, Yogi! Keep passing it around at the back. Sooner or later, we might have the players to play that system, so let's prepare in advance. Go Team Yogi!
  19. Plenty of good news. I'd say: We are still in the top tier of Scottish Football We have punched above our weight and budget We have 3 home grown players in our squad, Ross, Polworth & Christie It seems to me that we have an extraordinary set of players who do not have the usual footballer swagger. We do all this WITHOUT any bludy money to improve the football side of this business Let's ignore the bad news for this thread. Plenty of that elsewhere.
  20. I'm pretty sure we could count on getting the points to get top six confirmed from the position we were in before the last manager left. I mean, even Hughes managed to get that. Any team can lose to a smaller team on the day. Would McInnes be the Manager of the Day if he lost to Alloa, then went on a disatrous run where he barely managed a home win and was showing relelgation form? A one-off isn't something that happens nearly every week. As for Ross County, have you seen where they are in the table? Of course, we should beat them! And we did that by switching tactics away from his philosophy. So, all we have to do is hope that Yogi revitilizes a winning team that is now going through a terrible run of form. Something he hasn't managed before, yet this time it will all be different despite the same philiosophy. What was Einstein's definition of madness again? But, yeah, it's not Yogi's fault. It's the players that got us to second with games in hand. It's the fans for complaining about a disastrous run of form, no goals for and plenty against. Come on Yogi!
  21. Would we be in the Top Six on the form we have had since Hughes took over? No. In fact, its been a downward spiral. So, I don't see how you can give the credit to Hughes? Well done on winning the semifinal, bad luck on the final. I don't blame him. It happens. Now, about those massive losses, the draw with Stranraer, the truly appalling home record, the relegation form, the poor tactics, the loss of goals from a previously strong defence, the lack of goals from a previously strong attack...not inspiring is it? And the only changes are the manager and his tactics. Despite the denials, its true to form for the manager.
  22. Sheez, now it's the fans fault!?! Actually, it's not unrelenting. When Hughes changed his style from total football (as in total guff) to exciting wing play against Ross County, there wasn't criticism, which implies that everyone wants him to do well but the signs aren't good. There's none so blind as those who will not see.
  23. I can see what you are saying davie but the Board also thought Brewster was the man for the job. Even when it was blindlingly obvious he wasn't, rather than sack him, they gave him extra cash to spend. Very noble but ultimately wrong. I can see why people are saying give him time (and, to be honest, most naysayers are probably also in that camp, although not me) but I can see what is happening now is what always happens with Hughes' teams. An inability to halt a losing streak, a lack of goals, a play around at the back, so the more talented midfield don't get a look in, then a panic ball loaded up top. This was even the case with a Hibs team that had Derek Riordan, Liam Miller, Benjelloun and Rankin. Yes, I know he did fine initially but once the losses start, he can't halt it. I'm sure the Board won't sack him but I think they'll wish they had never taken him on come the end of his reign. Maybe you think differently but it's based on blind hope not the history of Yogi at other clubs. Once he's on a losing streak, he doesn't have the means to halt it.
  24. Wow, 32 pages since Sunday. Must be since some seem convinced it was from one game. Of course before that it was the loss in the cup final, the 5-0 loss to Dundee U, the 5-0 loss to Celtic, the draw with Stranraer, the loss to Ross County and over and above everything, the truly awful poor home record since Hughes did his usual. That's a hell of a lot of one-offs.
