  1. Excuse me if I don't join in the elation. I think Esson did a great job last year and I have no doubt he can perform well in the SPL. Clearly we need cover but it looks as though Max Johnson will provide that very nicely. I accept that in the SPL you probably need a third keeper but probably a young lad learning the trade.

Whilst Tuffey knows what he's coming to, I wonder if Esson and Johnson knew what lay ahead when they signed their contracts. Esson will not have signed to be number 2 and Johnson won't have signed to be number 3. I think we will have 1 or maybe 2 very unhappy keepers in the squad.

I also don't buy the competition is good line. Remember all the hoo ha about England and the lack of clarity about who the number 1 keeper was? Everyone was saying how this was a confidence thing and the keepers needed to know they were considered as number 1. The thing is that if you feel that any mistake means you're on the bench next week then you lose confidence and are more likely to make that mistake.

To be honest, I've not seen enough of Tuffey to make a judgement on whether he should be number 1 or 2 but although clearly he's highly rated I don't think we need him and I don't think Esson and Johnson are going to be too happy tonight. What we need is at least a couple of good signings in the back 4 and presumably the signing of Tuffey limits the available cash for that. I look forward to a keeper being sold in the January transfer window at a sizeable profit.

The new season can't be too far away - the moaning has started again!

    definitely a moan

If Esson got injured in pre-season would you be happy starting the season with a 19 year old with no first team appearances?

I'm delighted the lad has penned a two year contract as he is certainly a talented keeper whose best is yet to come. Ryan Esson is number one at the moment but Jonny's here to put Ryan under pressure, to challenge for a place and to develop as a player.

Says it all really. Strong statement from Tel and suggests that Tuffey knows he is No.12 (for the moment anyway) and now Esson has the reassurance that he's numero uno.

Tuffey had 2 terrific games against us, from the 2 I saw at Fir Hill, but from what my mates tell me (and from what I've read so far on Pie & Bovril) he is far from the finished article but no doubting he will be a terrific back up to Esson. His wages can't have been great from Plastic Thistle and there is no mention that a fee has been paid so far... I don't think Butcher could have found anyone better to warm a bench

  2. Who at the club decides on the final design? Or do Errea just tell us right this is your top?

Last year there was a competition on this site to design the strip although I don't think any of them were picked

It was probably Mike Smith (General Manager???) last year and now his replacement, Darren erm... something?

Its been said before errea need kicked to the kerb. Get FILA or KAPPA up in that "mo fo"

What about FUBU or Wu wear?

Don't pretend you wouldn't be happy with a FILA strip... that's all you used to wear back in high school!

  3. ross_county.jpg

Here's the new County shirt. Not quite sure what I think of that.

that is fecking terrible... especially compared to their strip last season, which made me jealous

tempting fate because ours isn't out yet but

  4.

Good signing but he isn't the finished article and I think Esson will still be out number 1. I know a few Partick Thistle fans and they say Tuffey is a terrific shot stopper but he is known for having his 'off' games... apparently he had one of his best games of their season against us (and he was outstanding) but I don't think it's fair that we expect that sort of performance from him immediately. At 24 he has the best years ahead of him as a keeper and with Esson pushing on a bit we'll probably see more of him in the next few years

  6. The bet was settled on dead heat rules as there were 4 top goal scorers, meaning you get 1/4 your stake @ 9/1. So you had ?0.625 @ 9/1 and ?2.50 @ 9/4 (the place part).

This is the key sentence in their reply. Because of the dead heat rules your ?2.50 stake on the win part of the bet was divided by 4 making your stake ?0.625. You got this at 9/1 giving profit of ?5.625, plus your stake of ?0.625 = ?6.25.

The each way part of the bet was settled at 9/4. Your stake was ?2.50 giving profit of ?5.625, plus your stake of ?2.50 = ?8.125 (rounded up to ?8.13). Total retrurn = ?6.25 + ?8.13 = ?14.38

So they have'nt done you out of ?2

yip, I knew my higher maths would come in handy one day

    nice one

    thanks for your help

  7. slightly different from what Smee is talking about but if I go into a sub forum, select "mark forum as read return to board index" on the forum options, I still see the new posts icon at the sidebar

so basically it always shows that there is a new post. Not a big issue just thought it worth mentioning

  8. Thanks for your email.

Firstly you were returned ?14.38, ?9.38 of which was profit.

The bet was settled on dead heat rules as there were 4 top goal scorers, meaning you get 1/4 your stake @ 9/1. So you had ?0.625 @ 9/1 and ?2.50 @ 9/4 (the place part).

    ?0.625 @ 9/1 = ?6.25

    ?2.50 @ 9/4 = ?8.13

    Giving a total of ?14.38.

That's the reply from Skybet, first time I've used them and didn't see they seperate the profit from stake on the returns page.

Makes sense I think although if they are returning my original stake as seperate from the profit I would have thought:

    original stake ?5 in total

    ?2.50 split 4 ways @ 9/1 = ?6.25

    ?2.50 @ 9/4 = 5.63

    Total = ?16.88

    ????

not really bothered for a couple of quid but trying to get an understanding of how it works more than anything.

  9. ?25 for picking the winner

?9.38 for Villa each way.... feel free to try and work that one out??

Disappointed tbh... had high hopes for the dutch but Spain deserved it on balance of play.. Paul the psychic octupus can go stick his tenticles up his erse

You must've got ?80 for predicting the finalists as well . Not bad work fella .

Thanks..... cleared ?100 but as sanmig says, it's all been spent already

  10. Sorry for being a simpleton (and I really am when it comes to betting odds) but if Villa was second top scorer my odds must have been better than evens for an each way bet if starting at 9/1... or not??

Can't get onto skybet at work so will email them for a breakdown when I get home but I can't believe it's such a small payout

  11. Yeh I enjoyed the tournament but felt too many teams failed to deliver...... France, Italy, England... even Brazil and Argies when it mattered.

Almost every team apart from Chile played 4-5-1 and it meant there was a lot of stale mates and very tactical games which have their own appeal but you ultamiltely want to see plenty of goals in a major tournament and there wasn't

Basically because the smaller teams weren't as niave as they normally are it made for a very cagey competition

  12. As it was a tie they must be applying their "dead heat" rules, whatever they are.

see that's the impression I had and I was hoping there was some mathematical wiz prepared to show the calculations (for a jens lehman) to how my ?5 bet made on odds of 9/1 (all be it e/w) have only paid out a piddly ?9.38, less than evens!!!! :(

  13. Right I picked Villa ?2.50 e/w @ 9/1 odds and received ?9.38 winnings .... i.e p!sh

He is still technically top scorer so I am struggling to see how it's worked out with such a small pay out

tbh it's probably a very simple calculation but I'm struggling .. any help would be appreciated

    cheers

Thomas Mueller was top scorer, you have been given a percentage of your winnings for e/w i.e third or fourth

Mueller is top scorer as per fifa ivo assists

My bet had nothing to do with assists it was purely made on goals scored and Villa is top goal scorer but shares the prize... no?

  14. Right I picked Villa ?2.50 e/w @ 9/1 odds and received ?9.38 winnings .... i.e p!sh

  15. ?25 for picking the winner

  16. We have been lacking a decent set-piece taker for sometime..

I completely agree, would love to see a player in the team who has a dangerous set-piece, adds more scoring potential

That was really why I was shouting my mouth off that Butcher should sign Bob Harris.. as well as filling a position he is more than capable of scraping us the odd point or 3 from dead ball situations.

It all seems to have gone quiet with him, last i heard Dundee were buying him, any word on whats going on with him?

na not heard anything... I doubt he'll be coming here though if Butcher isn't wanting to spend cash... also he seems to prefer players from down south

  17. We have been lacking a decent set-piece taker for sometime.. Hayes takes corners at the moment only because he's too small to win a header but some of his corners have been absolutely mince.

That was really why I was shouting my mouth off that Butcher should sign Bob Harris.. as well as filling a position he is more than capable of scraping us the odd point or 3 from dead ball situations.

I hope that one of our new signings is capable of scoring a freekick or 2 because it could be the difference between keeping us in the league.

  18. Owen Hargreaves has better luck with injuries from the sounds of it... but Marvin Andrews managed to play with 1 knee in the SPL with the faith of god alone so you never know.

  19. Courier clicky

Guy's got his critics but you can't question his commitment to the club and the fans.

He is far too eager to lump the ball up the pitch sometimes and maybe not the Roy Keane-esc captain that some fans crave for but Roy Keane is a pr!ck and defenders are there to defend.

As long as you stick a ball winning defender in beside Munro he always delivers i.e. Dods, Pavels ...... and now Tokely. In fact the only time he's been ropey is when he's had McGuire & Bulvitis as a partner or when Zadi was on the left of him.

He is definitely an unsung hero in the team and deserves a lot more respect than he gets from some posters
