Richie's rallying call!

Teaser Paragraph:
Skipper is encouraged by new faces and new flexibility as Caley Jags begin SPL countdown
Club captain Richie Foran feels Caley Thistle have more pace and more options in their squad for the new season. The Dubliner is impressed by the new faces and looking forward to Saturday's SPL opener against Motherwell at Fir Park.
"Our week in England worked out ideally and has us in the right mindset for Motherwell and the games beyond", says Richie."It was a great bonding experience which helped the new boys settle in and it helped the shape of the team. There were no distractions, we were able to focus fully on football and it was a really professional operation which has us all in good heart. Motherwell pipped us for a top six spot last season and they'll be very disappointed if they don't take three points on Saturday. But we're going down there to win and that would be a great start towards us reaching the top six this time, which has to be our target."
Fans favourite Foran acknowledges that manager Terry Butcher has mentioned a possible lack of experience. But Richie says: "We have Ross Tokely, Ryan Esson and myself who are seasoned campaigners and new boy Greg Tansey, though still only 22, is showing he's an old head on young shoulders. Greg reads the game very well and plays like someone much more experienced than he actually is. Andrew Shinnie is proving excellent, he's clever with quick feet and he can cause teams problems if he gets on the ball. What has struck me from our warm-up games is that we can now change our team shape more readily. We have brought in very good pace in the side. Tom Aldred gives height at the back while Gregory Tade, when he recovers from injury, offers us something very different up front with his height and strength."
Foran's leadership -- and his ability to conjure goals -- will be important to the Inverness campaign. Richie made 31 SPL starts last season and contributed 14 goals as well as his midfield drive and skill. He's convinced the three game unbeaten tour in England has helped set up Caley Jags for another good season. "There's genuine confidence in the squad, we're in good shape and we believe we can give a good account of ourselves", says Richie."It's no excuses -- top six is our aim."

Double Swoop!

Teaser Paragraph:
Aaron Doran of Blackburn Rovers and Billy McKay, from Northampton Town, have agreed terms to join Caley Thistle and the paperwork is expected to be completed in the next couple of days.
Doran, the 20-year-old flying winger, was a fans' favourite when on loan at Inverness in the second half of last season.
Billy McKay, a striker, is set to come north after three seasons at Northampton Town, during which he scored 13 goals in 74 appearances. McKay scored Town's first goal in a shock Carling Cup victory over Liverpool at Anfield last September.
Terry Butcher has taken time out on the club's English mini-tour to agree terms with both players. "I've been working hard on Aaron and Billy for some time and I'm delighted both have agreed to come", said Butcher. "Doran showed his talent when he joined us in the January window while I have had excellent reports on McKay. They are good young performers who can progress at Inverness."
Doran, from County Cork, joined Blackburn in May 2008 but made only three appearances and going on loan to MK Dons and Leyton Orient.Steve Kean picked him as a sub for Kean's first match in charge last season. In 14 outings for Caley Jags, the Irishman scored three goals and a string of assists and his return will be warmly welcomed.
McKay, born in England, joined Leicester City's academy squad in 2005 and signed a new contract three years later but was released in the summer of 2009. Stuart Gray snapped him up for Northampton and with them he won two Northern Ireland under-21 caps.

Double capture!

Teaser Paragraph:
Andrew Shinnie and Josh Meekings pledge their futures to Caley Jags.
Caley Thistle have agreed two year deals with Andrew Shinnie, 21 year old midfielder released by Rangers, and Josh Meekings, 18 year old centre half released by Ipswich Town.
Manager Terry Butcher said:"Both have been training with us and have made an excellent impression in our pre-season friendlies. I've made offers and both have accepted and the paperwork should be completed in the next few days."
Andrew is the brother of Caley Jags defender Graeme Shinnie who had a superb start to last season before being afflicted by illness. He signed a new contract during the campaign and is now back to full fitness.
Andrew made his SPL debut for Rangers in March 2007 against Aberdeen -- scoring two goals for the Ibrox Under-19s the same day. He helped Rangers beat Celtic 5-0 in the Scottish Youth Cup final that year, scoring the first goal and then accepting a new three year contract. Injury held back his Rangers career and he had two loan spells with Dundee. He won a Scotland Under-21s cap against Albania in March 2009 and won three caps.
Josh Meekings was born in Bury St Edmonds and is a 6 foot tall centre back who was with Ipswich. He was also a fine cricketer with Haverhill CC.
Both looked the part in the opening friendly with Clach at Grant Street Park and their arrivals strengthen the squad as Terry Butcher and Maurice Malpas continue their recruitment and preparation work in time for the opening SPL game at Motherwell on July 23.

Rooney heads for Brum

Teaser Paragraph:
Although there is no confirmation on the official Caley Thistle website yet, it appears that Adam Rooney has chosen not to renew his contract with the Caley Jags and has instead signed for Birmingham City.
Rumours have abounded in recent weeks that he was going to sign for a multitude of different teams in England, Scotland or abroad ... or even return to ICT (even if TB and MM played that down) but as he has now been pictured on the Birmingham City website holding a team scarf it seems that Birmingham is his final destination.
Adam will be fondly remembered at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. His 54 goals in 125 appearances will see to that. He arrived in 2008/2009 and scored 6 goals in 11 starts and 25 sub appearances however, it was not enough to prevent Caley Thistle being relegated.
[caption id="" align="alignright" width="205" caption="Rooney signs for the Blues"] [/caption] In 2009/10, his 27 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions were one of the primary reasons that ICT were able to bounce back to the SPL at the first time of asking. At the end of the season he collected an armful of awards .... he was voted the PFA First Division Player of the Year; the Irn Bru First Division Player of the Year; Irn Bru First Division Top Goalscorer; Irn Bru First Division Player of the Month for March 2010 and also won the Players' Player of the Year Award and Flybe Supporters' Player of the Year Trophies .....
Last season he scored 15 goals in 38 SPL appearances - 4th best in the SPL overall behind Kenny Miller, Gary Hooper and David Goodwillie. He also scored 6 goals in 5 Cup appearances and was a firm fan favourite.
The most recent rumour was that Adam would link up with his old boss Craig Brewster who is now on the coaching staff at Crawley Town and most ICT fans saw that as a backward move given their league standing. However a move to the Championship with Birmingham will now hopefully give him a platform to showcase his skills at a good level and continue his progression that has seen him move from the Irish U19 setup to the U21 setup and hopefully into the full squad.
Good Luck Adam ... and thanks for the goals !
