Inverness CT -V- Ross County - Report

Caley Thistle overcame stubborn resistance by Ross County to reach their third Challenge Cup final.
Robert Eagle’s fortunate goal just before half-time gave Terry Butcher’s men the win and, although County threatened more in the second half on the basis of their first half display it was a deserved victory for the Inverness club.
Manager Butcher will hope that a home victory over his sides local rivals will give a boost in confidence for forthcoming league matches.

Referee Steve  O'Reilly Attendance 2275 Caley made three changes from the XI who fell to defeat against Partick Thistle - Graham Shinnie, Nick Ross and Andy Barrowman dropped out and Stuart Golabek, Robert Eagle and Dani Sanchez stepped in. Ross County made one change from their defeat at Dens Park the previous week with Steven Craig missing out due to injury, his place taken by Stuart Kettlewell. Ross County featured former Caley Thistle players Steven Watt and Iain Vigurs in their starting XI with Garry Wood on the bench. As well as Golabek, Caley had former Ross County hitman Andy Barrowman on the substitutes bench.
The match started in a low key atmosphere compared to the previous league game, something contributed to by the significantly reduced turnout from both sets of supporters. Perhaps driven by the meek surrender in the previous derby, the early running was made by Caley Thistle, whose midfield looked determined not to be overrun again by County. Richie Foran, Caley’s Irish targetman, looked lively and it was he who came closest in the early stages when he hit a swerving low shot from a direct free kick which County stopper Michael McGovern had to scramble away for a corner.
Foran then picked up a short pass from striker partner Sanchez, outmuscled a defender and cracked a dipping shot just over the crossbar from 18 yards. The ex-Motherwell player has been criticised by some in the Inverness support this season but he was getting the better of just about every encounter with the Ross County rearguard. As well as winning balls in the air, Foran also gathered forward balls on the floor well, causing problems for the County rearguard all afternoon.
In contrast to the previous derby, which lacked the fire and spark that characterised this fixture in previous years, there were several crunching challenges in the first half with Iain Vigurs lucky to escape a booking for a lunge at Robert Eagle. Russell Duncan meted out his own version of on-field justice minutes later by crunching Vigurs in return but again the referee kept his cards in his pockets.
Despite dominating proceedings it looked as though Caley Thistle would head to the dressing room with nothing to show for their endeavours until Robert Eagle struck with a fortunate goal to give the Inverness side the lead. Jonathan Hayes curled in a dangerous cross from the left and Richie Foran out jumped McGovern to win the header. The ball fell to Robert Eagle wide on the left of the penalty area and his attempted cross to the back post dropped into the net, evading a County defender on the line. It was a welcome slice of luck for Caley Thistle and Eagle was mobbed by his ecstatic team-mates as he celebrated his third goal for Caley Thistle.
Seconds after the opener had been struck Caley Thistle came within inches of doubling their advantage. Hayes bent in a superb ball from a free kick 40 yards out and his pass was met by the head of centre-back Narius Bulvitis. His effort was heading for the top corner but McGovern redeemed himself from his suspect efforts at the Caley goal by beating the ball away for a corner.
Half Time 1-0
There was one change at half-time as former Queens Park and Clyde midfielder Stuart Kettlewell was withdrawn by Derek Adams. Martin Scott was put on in his place.
Ross County started the second half with a renewed vigour and managed to push the Caley Jags midfield back and put the defence under pressure. Despite this, the Caley Jags backline were able to remain strong, with Bulvitis winning a number of headers. County did manage several dangerous crosses across the area but none found a County head.
Iain Vigurs was withdrawn just after the hour mark in favour of Garry Wood and the former Caley Jags striker almost put his old team-mates to the sword minutes after that when he found himself clean through on goal, following a long pass from deep. Wood managed a good connection but his shot was brilliantly saved by an in-form Ryan Esson and the rebound was cleared by Duncan. Wood was often criticised for his lack of goals whilst at the Caledonian Stadium and he will have been bitterly disappointed not to have taken this opportunity.
Controversy flared midway through the second half as a touchline tussle between Hayes and County left back Scott Morrison ended with the Irish winger seemingly felled by an elbow from the former Aberdeen and Dunfermline player. Despite there being clear contact between the players and the fact that the linesman was literally two feet away from the incident, no action was taken against Morrison when a red card had looked the only possible outcome.
County continued to push forward and pepper the Caley Thistle area with dangerous balls but they came closest following a long range effort. Stuart Golabek made an error in passing the ball back into a dangerous area and former Celtic midfielder Paul Lawson fired in a howitzer that rebounded off Esson’s cross bar.
In the last ten minutes Caley Jags withdrew Lee Cox in favour of Daniel Stratford and Dani Sanchez for Adam Rooney. Late in the game Rooney almost sealed it for the home side when he was played through on goal, only for McGovern to slide in and smother the ball at the Irish forwards feet. Rooney also mishit a strike late on when it seemed easier to steer the ball on target.
With the second half onslaught contained, Caley Thistle played out the match by taking the ball to the corners and there was a sense of relief around the ground when the final whistle sounded.
Full Time 1-0
It certainly wasn’t a vintage showing from Caley Thistle but the grit displayed was in marked contrast to the weak surrenders to County and Partick in previous home matches and Richie Foran’s man of the match showing showed the impact he can have for the Highland club when on form.
Terry Butcher noted in his post-match comments that the last time Caley won this cup they also won promotion. While this win will give the squad some much-needed confidence omens won’t turn around Caley Thistle’s stuttering start to the season – Butcher and Malpas will be hoping that this result will kick start a good run, especially at home, to push Caley Jags back into contention at the top of the table.

Inverness CT -V- Ross County - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Caley Thistle head into their Alba Cup semi-final with local rivals Ross County on the back of two consecutive defeats and with confidence in the teams ability to mount a promotion challenge at a low ebb. Last weeks losses to Motherwell and Partick Thistle saw the Inverness men concede six goals, crash out of the league cup and lose further ground in the First Division title race. Terry Butcher was particularly furious with the first half performance against Partick Thistle that saw his side lose three goals in five minutes as Liam Buchanan ran riot and the former England skipper pulled his players in for extra training last Sunday. Although they fell to their second league defeat of the season away to Dundee last Saturday, Ross County have started the season brighter than their Highland rivals. County have won the first derby match of the season and also have impressed in scoring back-to-back victories over league leaders Queen of the South and claiming the scalp of SPL Hamilton Accies in the league cup. Past Meetings
The Highland rivals have met twice before in cup competition since 1994. The first meeting took place in 2003 when the clubs met in the Challenge Cup, then sponsored by Bell’s. The Inverness men ran out 1-0 winners on that occasion and went on to lift the trophy, with fans favourite striker Steve Hislop bagging the only goal of the game just after half-time, converting a David Bingham cut back. Current ICT squad members Ross Tokely, Stuart Golabek, David Proctor, Roy McBain and Grant Munro were all involved in that game, whereas County have no survivors. After waiting nearly a decade for a national cup-tie between Caley Thistle and County, Highland fans had just under a year to wait for the next tie as the sides were drawn to face each other in the second round of the league cup. Newly promoted Caley Thistle made the short trip to Dingwall 48 hours after losing to reigning league champions Celtic but didn’t look at all fatigued in their comfortable 1-0 win. Ross Tokely nodded home the only goal of the game just after the hour mark to give Caley Jags victory. The same quintet of survivors played for Caley Thistle in that match while the Ross County side featured John Rankin, Gary McSwegan and Don Cowie, all of whom would go on to play in the SPL for the Inverness side.
Players to watch
Although Caley Thistle fans will have tried to push last month’s ignominious defeat at County’s hands from their minds it is worth looking back at the match to assess where things went wrong for the Inverness men. Ross County dominated the centre of the park in that match, pressuring and outpassing the home side to build a basis for their victory. This dominance meant that the Inverness defence was put under pressure and the forwards were starved of service and if the result is to change then Butcher will have to improve the anaemic standard of play in the midfield. One player who has been an ever present in the league this season for ICT is former Leicester City player Lee Cox. Cox’s early season showings enthused supporters as his strong running from box-to-box, powerful tackling and clever passing filled the gap left by the departure of former talisman Ian Black. However, in the last few weeks the level of performance from Cox has dipped. Given that he is playing his first season in first team football and is only 18 years old this is perhaps to be expected – fans of the Inverness club have speculated that too much is being asked of a young, inexperienced talent. However, Cox needs to recapture the levels reached last month if Caley are to win the midfield battle and take the tie. Also key will be the performance of Cox’s midfield partner – Daniel Stratford has looked ill-at-ease in recent weeks and Russell Duncan made a vital error to gift Partick their second goal at the weekend. Butcher and Malpas will be hoping that their selection pays dividends on Sunday. Ross County suffered an injury blow to Dundee when season stand-out Richard Brittain, a former Caley Thistle signing target, suffered severe bruising on his leg after a meaty challenge from Gary Harkins. Brittain scored in the Staggies derby victory and has recovered the form that made him a stand-out for Livingston in the SPL. Although he did not suffer a broken leg as initially feared Brittain is likely to miss the weekend tie as he recovers from his injuries.
Prediction Ross County have made by far the more impressive start to the league campaign this season and have outshone their more successful Highland rivals. County fans will hope that the journey they have travelled on is not in vain and that they are not about to be moved on from their current encampment as the top dogs in Highland football. Caley can take heart in the relative drop in form showed by County over the last two games, which have seen them lose 2-0 to both Dundee sides, and the fact that County haven’t kept a clean sheet in the league since their victory in the last round over Queens. However, given the shoddy displays given over the last few weeks by Caley Jags Ross County have to be favourites to secure their first back-to-back derby victories since the election of both clubs to the SFL in 1994.

Inverness CT -V- Partick Th - Report

First half disaster for Caley Jags

ICT slumped to yet another embarrassing home defeat, this time at the hands of Partick Thistle to leave Inverness floundering in the bottom half of the first division. The bounce back ability of Butchers boys seems to be falling apart at the seams as Inverness found themselves three nil down to Partick before half time. This is a team they had put out of the Alba cup only a couple of weeks previously.
ICT handed league starts to Nick Ross and Graeme Shinnie, both of whom did their prospects no harm. Andy Barrowman started up front with Richie Foran, after impressing boss Butcher with his goal at Motherwell. Jonny Hayes was to provide the wing play for the front two, and Russeldinho was to provide the holding play from midfield. Tokely, Golabeck and Eagle were out through injuries but Lionel Djebi-Zadi, Rooney and Sanchez were warming the bench.

2 - Rooney (65 pen), Foran (78)

3 - Buchanan (39, 40), Archibald (45)
Team: Tuffey, Paton, Archibald, Hodge, Robertson, Maxwell, Cairney (Erskine 50), Rowson, Buchanan, Donnelly (Hamilton 71), Corcoran (Kinniburgh 78)
Subs: Hinchcliffe, Doolan
Referee Euan Norris Attendance 3218 The game started tentatively for both sides with Inverness always looking comfortable without testing keeper Tuffey. It took just over twenty minutes for ICT to carve out the first opportunity of the match, a Hayes free kick was met by the head of Bulvitis, but the ball floated harmlessly past. Shinnie had a foray into the Partick box but he dragged his shot well wide. Chances were at a premium at this point until Partick realised that Inverness were just going through the motions. On the half hour Esson had to save smartly under the bar as he tipped over a curling free kick from Hodge, the ball going behind for a corner. Inverness replied with Nick Ross trying his hand but he shot over after cutting across the defence. Thirty five minutes on the clock and Barrowman set up Hayes who thumped the ball over the North Stand. Nobody was prepared for the next seven minutes, especially the Inverness defence. A Hodge corner from the left was not cleared properly by the Caley Jags defence and when the ball found it's way back into the six yard box a static ICT defence looked on in horror as Liam Buchanan did the only thing possible. With his back to the goal he backheeled the ball through the defender and past the hidden Esson into the net. Cheeky goal from Buchanan, and a defensive disaster from ICT. Our hands were barely off our furrowed brows when we were caught up the park. With only Russell Duncan back, he tried to reach a ball over the top but could only succeed in teeing up Buchanan for an Ian Stewartesque exquisite lob over the advancing and stranded Esson. Two nil to Partick, how bad can it get. Well it got even worse just before half time as Partick broke forward as yet another Inverness attack broke down. Hodge and Buchanan ripped the bedraggled Inverness rearguard apart before setting up Archibald who, despite not connecting cleanly, did enough to turn the ball past a helpless Ryan Esson. Three nil and half time cuppa was going to be interesting in the Inverness dressing room.
Half Time: 0-3
Many home fans had given up the ghost at half time, preferring Tesco's to watching this rubbish from the home team. The rest hoped to see a glorious comeback reminiscent of the Ayr United cup game, when ICT overturned a 3-0 deficit to win 4-3.
There was no indication that things would get any better after half time. ICT had swapped Barrowman for Sanchez during the interlude, with tactics being the reason for this change. In fact, if anything, it was going from bad to worse, as Esson kept the score to three with two excellent blocks from Simon Donnelly and Chris Erskine. Inverness at this point with one hour played were merely spectators. Jonny Tuffey had kept his gloves clean so far. Graeme Shinnie was replaced by Adam Rooney on 61 minutes, as Inverness boss Butcher threw caution to the wind. Within a couple of minutes Rooney himself had reduced the deficit from the spot. Jonny Hayes who had been relatively quiet for an hour accelerated into the box and was unceremoniously upended by the outstretched leg of John Robertson. No doubt about the award and Rooney made taking penalties look easy as he thumped the ball home. This sparked a bit of life into the ICT players and suddenly it was game on. Pocket rocket Hayes did well on the left and when he fed Munro, his curling cross to the back post was met by a rejuvenated Foran and his header powered into the roof of the net past the outrushing Tuffey. There were still about fifteen minutes to go, could Inverness complete the comeback? The last quarter of an hour was played out mainly in the Partick third of the pitch as ICT launched ball after ball into the Partick box. But a combination of stout defending from Ian Maxwell and some horrendous crosses from the Caley Jags attackers saw Partick hold on nervously for the three points, despite some goalmouth scrambles and Tuffey stopping a couple of goalbound efforts. Lionel was thrown on at the end to provide some height in attack, but this threat was ruled out by our own inability to cross the ball.
Full Time: 2-3
Inverness had once again disappointed at home. Partick did enough to merit the three points but Inverness could and should have snatched a point with a rousing final half hour. Once again it was too little too late and Butcher must be baffled as to why we have these Jekyll & Hyde performances. The fans certainly are. Inverness had too many players out of sorts. The main culprits were Bulvitis and Proctor at the back, both of these players had an hour to forget. Russell Duncan not renowned for his passing game, added more errors to his normal play and was fortunate not to be hooked. Lee Cox is another who needs to look at his input, as he has gone backwards since the start of the season. We now have a midfield devoid of a holding player and missing any creativity whatsoever. Up front Butcher does not seem to know who are his main players. There were very few positives to be drawn from this performance, but Esson, Hayes, Ross, Foran and Shinnie made it above pass marks, with Rooney looking interested when he came on. Sanchez, I'm afraid the game seems to pass him bye at times.
Esson has shown the qualities required and was a contender for MotM, he certainly kept us interested in the game with two great blocks in the second half. Nick Ross has great potential and his speed will be an asset, although he never received enough ball in the first hour. Shinnie is a threat going forward, and is an able deputy in the left wingback slot. My MoM however goes Liam Buchanan for his two cheeky goals and all round forward play, closely followed by Maxwell, who kept us at bay in the last frenetic throws of this encounter. Best for ICT were Hayes and Esson.
We should be looking forward to our home games, instead we are fast becoming the punch bags of the first division. Next up to kick sand in our faces are County in the Alba Cup, and after our last two home games, I don't hold out much hope for Inverness to turn it around.

Inverness CT -V- Partick Th - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Caley Thistle head into this weekend’s home clash with Partick Thistle looking to improve on a patchy home record so far this season and also hoping to build on a battling display against Motherwell in the league cup third round. Partick were one of the pre-season favourites to challenge for the title but have had, like Caley Thistle, a stuttering start to the season. Both sides have an identical record of having won twice, lost once and drawn three matches in the league this season, with the Maryhill side stretching ahead on goal difference but while Partick have not won a league game on their travels, Inverness have failed to win a match at home. Both sides will be looking to reverse these trends on Saturday. Past Meetings The head-to-head between the two sides is remarkably even – in league games both sides have won four games with no draws. Saturday’s match will be the first meeting of league football’s two Thistle’s since 2002, when Partick visited Inverness as league champions, only to fall to a 3-0 defeat on the last day of the season. That season saw the two clubs meet a total of seven times in the league, Scottish and league cups, with Partick coming out on top in four games, Caley in two and one draw. Inverness fans will recall wistfully the first cup tie when the Highland side lead twice through Dennis Wyness goals only to be pegged back by Martin hardie and Scott Paterson, the latter with a stunning 18 yard volley. The replay at Caledonian Stadium (in a torrential downpour) saw the Glasgow side triumph 1-0 thanks for another Paterson goal. Since that season both sides have only met in cup ties. Earlier this season Inverness defeated Partick on penalties in the Alba Cup after a 1-1 draw. Ryan Esson was the hero that day with three saves. Thistle fared better in 2006 when they triumphed on spot kicks after two drawn games with the then SPL Inverness side in a replay televised on Sky. Players to Watch Caley Thistle have made sweeping changes this season but one player who was a mainstay last season and who has remained is goalkeeper Ryan Esson. Former Aberdeen stopper Esson was a vital player in the Alba Cup tie earlier this month, saving three penalties in the Firhill tie, and has shown his value to the Inverness club in other games this season, blocking another spot-kick at Airdrie and denying Motherwell on numerous occasions in midweek. Despite falling out of the team towards the end of the season due to a rumoured fall out with the manager, Esson is a professional and classy custodian who gives the backline a real sense of solidity. Partick Thistle have been building their squad steadily since returning to the First Division in 2006, securing a series of comfortable mid-table finishes until last season title race with St Johnstone. One of their best acquisitions in this time has been striker Liam Buchanan, who should be available for Partick again after a suspension. The Edinburgh born striker had trials with Caley Thistle but wasn’t kept on, allowing the Firhill club to swoop in 2007 and take him to Glasgow from Cowdenbeath. In his first full season the pacy striker bagged eleven league goals in twenty-two games before injury interrupted his season. Last season, again after injury intervened, Buchanan bagged seven goals and so far this campaign he has five goals. Caley captain Grant Munro and his fellow defenders will have to be on their guard to prevent Buchanan adding to this tally on Saturday afternoon. Prediction After two distinctly underwhelming home performances, Caley Jags’ fans will be looking for a statement from their side. Terry Butcher and Maurice Malpas must be keen to prevent the poor home form becoming a talking point so a quick win is a must. After Colonel Gadaffi’s UN speech this game could only possibly claim second spot in terms of the weeks most startling 90 minutes but both Thistle’s will have to buck current form to claim a win. The most likely outcome is a score draw with the tight league that is this season’s First Division maintained.

Motherwell 3-2 Inverness CT - League Cup (aet)

CIS LEAGUE CUP
Motherwell progressed to the quarter-finals of the Co-operative Insurance Cup with a battling win over Inverness.
Robert McHugh headed the Steelmen into the lead on 33 minutes and Dani Sanchez pulled one back in the 70th minute, before David Proctor was dismissed.
A Nauris Bulvitis extra-time own-goal handed the hosts the lead, with Grant Munro's looping header levelling the scores for Inverness 17 minutes later.
Ross Forbes sealed the win with a solo run in the dying minutes of extra-time.
Dan Stratford shot wide after Motherwell had lost the ball from their own free-kick and Richie Foran's first-time volley flew well wide after a Jonathan Hayes cross.
Inverness kept Motherwell at arm's length until the half-hour mark when Proctor was booked for a cynical foul on Jim O'Brien.
Forbes curled in the free-kick and Lukas Jutkiewicz saw his downward header blocked by Ryan Esson.
O'Brien then sent Jutkiewicz clear through the middle but the on-loan Everton striker found himself too wide after taking the ball round Esson and saw his shot blocked by the goalkeeper.
Well took a 33rd-minute lead from the same passage of play when McHugh - in for the injured John Sutton - guided Yassin Moutaouakil's powerful cross into the far corner.
The visitors got the ball forward quickly and Russell Duncan had a clear sight of goal but the midfielder's shot trundled wide.
The lively former Well striker Foran curled over with the aid of a deflection just after the break but Motherwell soon took a grip.
Jutkiewicz turned and shot straight at Esson and McHugh volleyed wide off a defender, both after crosses by Moutaouakil, who soon cut inside and had a left-footed strike saved by Esson.
Saunders glanced wide from O'Brien's cross but the visitors grabbed a shock equaliser after Forbes had been harshly penalised for a challenge on Duncan.
The home defence slacked off as Hayes curled in the free-kick and the unchallenged Barrowman headed into the corner from eight yards.
Four minutes after levelling, Inverness found themselves a man down when Proctor received his second yellow for chopping down O'Brien for the second time in quick succession.
But Esson forced extra-time with two excellent stops from chances created by Forbes.
The Inverness goalkeeper tipped Saunders' header over and somehow kept out McHugh's 82nd-minute header as the ball bounced along the line and spun out for a corner.
Motherwell continued to push forward as extra-time began. Moutaouakil had a shot parried over after being set up by Giles Coke and they went in front when Bulvitis sliced Hammell's low cross into his own net.
Well kept possession without threatening and they were again hauled back in the 110th minute when Grant Munro looped a header over John Ruddy following Hayes' corner.
Esson kept out Forbes' strike at his near post but he was soon beaten at the exact same place when the midfielder cut inside and lashed the ball into the roof of the net from 16 yards.
Esson still had time to save well from Jamie Murphy, Moutaouakil and Forbes as Well finished with a flurry.

Motherwell -V- Inverness CT - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Motherwell CIS Cup Preview: Inverness head South again tonight three days after underachieving against Airdrie United at the weekend. This time it is off to their Lanarkshire neighbours Motherwell, for a third round CIS cup game at Fir Park.
Inverness are no strangers to cup glory at Motherwell. Who can forget Barry Wilson’s 40 yard dipper in the Scottish cup a few years ago. However these moments are a distant memory, as ICT struggle to find any sort of consistency under Terry Butcher. Motherwell on the other hand have made an unbeaten start to their league campaign and sit fourth in the SPL. About the opposition Like Inverness, Motherwell FC were formed from the amalgamation of two clubs, Glenbairn FC and Alpha FC. This was over 120 years ago and they eventually merged to form Motherwell FC as we know them today in 1886. In their first match after admission to the Scottish League set up they were thrashed 1-8 by Celtic.
They are known as the Steelmen, with Motherwell renowned for its steel industry over the years. Well’s strip changed around 1912 from a primarily blue kit to the present claret and amber strip. Motherwell have won four major titles over the years, the old First division in 1931-32. The Scottish cup was won in 1952 and 1991. They also won the league cup in 1950, which has since become known as the CIS cup.
Their stadium Fir Park has a capacity of 13,742, although the ground record stands at 35,642. Terry Butcher had four years in charge at Motherwell………I wonder whatever happened to him? They have had a succession of who’s who in their managerial ranks, from the successful George Stevenson, through Bobby Ancell, Ian St John, Willie Mclean, Roger Hynd, Ally Macleod, David Hay, Jock Wallace, Tommy Mclean and Alex Mcleish. Many of these managers went on to greater heights. The present manager is Irishman Jim Gannon. Recent notable players were Tom Boyd, Willie Pettigrew, John Spencer, Stephen Pearson, James McFadden and two late legends, Phil O’donnell and Davie Cooper. Inverness were one of the benefactors in Motherwells financial plight a few years ago when we signed a young released keeper by the name of Mark Brown, who went on to become a standout between the sticks for ICT. The Teams Inverness Given last weekends performance at Airdrie, it would be no surprise if Butcher replaces some of the ineffective and lightweight midfield with more experienced players like Russell Duncan. Stratford and Eagle are noticeably short of commitment and passion, something Duncan might be able to add to the squad. Hayes has been the pick of the forward players recently and should retain his slot. We may see Adam Rooney start as he impressed when he entered the fray last weekend, and that could be the signal for Sanchez to have a break.
Should the game go to penalty kicks, Ryan Esson could make himself even more popular. He has been one of the few players performing with any semblance of consistency and has proved his worth in penalty shoot outs already this season, and last weeks penalty save against Airdrie earned ICT a point. The back five will pick itself, although it’s always possible in this competition to see fringe players thrown in. Shinnie, Ross and the enigmatic Lionel might be worth a shot with Barrowman also needing games under his belt to gain match sharpness.
Ex Well player Richie Foran will be keen to make amends for his frustrating afternoon against Airdrie, and his quest to score twenty goals does seem a long way off at the moment, but maybe playing at his old ground will inspire him to greater things. Definitely missing and sorely missed, will be Dougie Imrie and Eric Odihambo, although both are back in light training. Also out for the season is young centre back Jamie Duff who will require an operation to repair damaged cruciate ligaments. Best of luck to Jamie in his recovery. Motherwell Motherwell boss Jim Gannon has concerns over Ross Forbes, John Sutton, Jim O'Brien and Giles Coke as the quartet missed Monday training with "heavy knocks". Shaun Hutchinson could return from an ankle injury but Paul Slane is still out following calf surgery. Gannon expects to have a relatively full squad to select from and will not be treating this game lightly. Motherwell are expected to choose from this squad;- Ruddy, Moutaouakil, Craigan, Saunders, Reynolds, Hammell, Hateley, Coke, Forbes, O'Brien, Murphy, Sutton, Kosiorowski, Jutkiewicz, Jennings, Lasley. TM4TJ prediction I’m not sure I should bother as I don’t think I have predicted correctly since the start of the season. Due to our Jekyll & Hyde performances it’s difficult to assess the outcome of this match. Add to the fact that it is the CIS cup and maybe the squads will be tampered with, however, I can’t see past a sound thrashing for Butchers Boys and more pressure mounting on ICT to come up with the goods. Tonight should see us having one less competition to concentrate on, but we are at our best when we are the underdogs, which we undoubtedly are this evening. Will Well send us homewards to think again? Or will it be a case of Well stuffed.
