Ranking Scotland's qualification campaigns 1990-2020

Scotland's Euro 2020 campaign was pretty much a disaster. The only thing good about it is that it's over now.

It's now twenty-two years - nearly two-thirds of my life - since Scotland made it to a major tournament. That's eleven qualifying campaigns we've failed in.

But was the most recent debacle the worst of the lot?

My own football awakening was in 1991, aged seven. I'm not old enough to remember Italia '90, but I am old enough to remember what came after it. So let's rank, and reminisce about, the last fifteen Scotland qualification campaigns from Euro 92 to the present.

This brings back some fond memories. And some not so fond ones...

    • Following our Board Meeting earlier this week, we have issued an update to members. It includes a request for anyone available to assist Dale the club's Groundsman) on Friday morning, details of Bar 94 and Matchday Bus arrangements for Aaron Doran's testimonial match on Saturday and the forthcoming League Cup group games, ticketing details for Aaron's game and for purchasing or renewing season tickets, and advance warning about a Fans Meeting in August and about our membership renewal process. You can read the full update here: Update to Members: July 2025 If you are not already a member of the Supporters Trust, we would be delighted if you decided to join, which is easy (and only £5) here: Join Us | ICT Supporters Trust
    • Glad Kel's interview is there as it saves me typing much the same (twice recently I've had longish posts disappear). An excellent performance with a total collapse of about 10 mins when PTFC scored 3 times and could have had another couple. We looked more like the Championship club in the first half but they obviously got a rocket at half time. I think Munro will be an excellent replacement for Musa. Chalmers and Allan made a good pairing and Remi and Danny were composed as usual. Millen looks OK at RB. Not sure if Ojo is the goalscorer we need based on one viewing. The PTFC fans were all wanting the manager to nick him off us before he got back on the team bus. A horrible venue, a bit like Cove, where we shouldn't have to play again with any luck as Petershill are in Tier 7 and are unlicensed atm. It was my 58th venue watching ICT otherwise I wouldn't have bothered as I've been a couple of times before.
    • Hi Scotty, finally have some time to reply to you. Thanks for the extensive reply! I have found a way for this to show on demand for me. I am using Chrome which I suspect is the source of this issue, as it does not show in Firefox for me.   Near the bottom of each page on CTO is the link below: Clicking on this takes me to the cookie popup I was talking about (with a 'Do not consent' option which doesn't show when you first get this forced on to your screen). If you click on Manage Options, you will see the screenshot that I shared originally. I usually have to go in to each section and unselect anything that is on by default.   I am guessing you can't do anything about this as it is a browser thing.
    • As detailed in the Bar 94 and Matchday Bus Service thread, Bar 94 will be open from 1130 and will reopen at full time, with the usual range of products (and we have held the price of a pint of Dog Falls at £5). We hope to see you there to enjoy what the Testimonial Committee have lined up for the day. With the circus taking place in the car park, please use the matchday bus if you are able to as parking will be restricted at and around the ground. It leaves the Bus Station at 1145 and 1315, returning from the Stadium 10 minutes after the full time whistle and at 1700. The fare is £2.70 single (contactless payments or cash accepted), and Over 60 / Disabled and Under 22 Concession passes are valid, giving free travel on the service to passholders. Stagecoach have advised that all revenue taken on the service on Saturday will be donated to Aaron's Testimonial Fund, so that is another great reason to use the service, as Aaron will be directly benefitting from your journey.
