English Implosion

Just read an article on the beeb website (HERE) with Gordon Strachan moaning about over inflated wages/trasfer fees and how he cant compete in the transfer market with teams like Hull and Stoke despite having the countrys 5th highest wage bill a few years back. Welcome to the real world!

I agree with the fact the wages and transfer fees are spiralling out of control and it cannot be sustained but, one comment in particular really puzzled me:

"But if we can pick up wee gems like Marc Crosas for ?400,000 then it will help us and it will help Scottish football."

Cant quite work out how signing a Spanish midfielder helps Scottish football?!? By signing foreign players surely this could be seen as depriving Scottish players from firstly earning a wage and secondly giving the player exposure to European football which will ultimately benefit his development and subsequently the scottish game.

Can anyone see the logic in the quote above?

It's assumed by the OF that whatever is good for them is automatically good for Scottish football.

yeah and thats what is so annoying. As long as the OF have a stranglehold on the SPL then who is gonna challenge managers' comments like these
