Mcghee comments

Strange thing to say

Am i the only one that finds it a bit strange that Mr McGhee is saying he is looking forward to finding out how good his players turn out to be....i would like to think that Terry wouldn't be signing players wiht out a belief that they are good enough to do the job they are asked... to me it suggests that the Aberdeen manager has had his hands tied into not signing quality but cost basis

I read that too ... and thought the same thing ...... its all very negative really ....

"This time a year ago I felt reasonably confident, but it never turned out that way, so it's not an issue of confidence,"

"We've ended up with seven players in, and getting that number in is a big ask but we've managed it with the money available, within our budget. It's now just a case of how good they turn out to be."

Aberdeen have been without silverware since winning the 1995/96 League Cup against Dundee, a statistic that new captain Paul Hartley would like to rectify. However, McGhee was much more subdued in his ambitions for the season, insisting that he would need to assess the players before getting any ideas about silverware. "I don't know this year, because I don't know how good or bad they're going to be," said McGhee. "We have done as much as I believe we could with regard to recruitment, and we'll continue to do that.

I heard (midweek)that they are a bit strapped for cash and only have a squad of 20 players, probably frustrated by the lack of funds available.

My source wanted to back this up by saying that if you have too big a squad its difficult to keep the boys who aren't playing happy.
