Yes I think you are referring to Wilson's shop which was next to the infamous Dorandos.I think they went for the hairdressing image rather than the barbering .And yes the front of the shop sold fancy goods etc.I think the cottage Indian is there now.

I note with sadness the passing of Tom Anderson in the Courier yesterday .Tom was keyboard player in the very popular trio that played the tenerife lounge during the 70,s A very fine musician. I always thought it was unique that he played the pub by evening and then moved to the church next door to play the hymns on a sunday morning.

Don't hold your breath on that one - Megabus is point A to B and nothing in between (other than connections) and most, if not all, drivers I know off won't entertain requests for stopping elsewhere. I know I don't as it is just asking for trouble, before you know it you have people asking off at every stop on the way in to town. In my experience the bus will probably breakdown at the Kessock roundabout anyway as their buses dont seem to do all of the A9 in one go !!!!!!!

Although I am to young to have experienced Harry Shore and his orchestra in the Caley ballroom I had the pleasure of enjoying one of his Band members playing saxiphone in a rock band in the 80 s the band was called "Nite hox "and the sax player was Ray Meiklejohn other band members were Dave Hamilton with "LaL" on bass and Robin "budgie" McBroom on the drums .I mentioned previously "The New Safari Drinkhouse Band "who played the CALEY in the 70s two members I remember from this band were Ronnie Shaw and Frankie Davidson.Anybody remember the others??Great times Great bands Who can remember the trio that played in the Teneriffe bar in the 70,s Tom Anderson was one (Retired Music teacher in Millburn) I can still visualise the other two but I cant remember their names .Any other memories????

yeah the Locarno was owned by Renzo Serifini and his able assistants were Olga and Jean some of his family also worked there sergio his son but I cant remember the rest. The chip shop at eastgate was owned by the Pieracinis and they also had the papershop next door although it traded under Greenlees

I could not agree more "Bring back the tally cafes/chippers "From the cheese and tomato bridge rolls from the Locarno ,the best ice cream in my opinion from the ness cafe and the fabulous fish and chips from Ronnies in eastgate it beats a Big mac and Mcflurry any day of the week !!!!Mind you we still have the legendary "Castle Restaurant "with the steak pie to die for and how to they do these chips !!!!!!!

As a new kid on the block as far as this forum is concerned i have really enjoyed the memories theme I have just read.I just love looking back at our wonderful town especially the 70,s The eastgate theme has been great but the whole old town is steeped in memories.Who remembers the gift shop in the market who hung up all their wares on the outside of the shop everyday ,the model shop,and the wonderfull snack bar "the griddle "I worked within the old town from 1973 till 1983 and have so many great memories The imperial bar ,the Carlton bar ,the Falcon bar the Gellions and the academy bar .Burnetts the bakers ,the Locarno and as previously mentioned the Morrison's snack bar .However I did do other things apart from drink and eat and what about Bruce Millers and the Record rendezvous .The Caley ballroom at weekends with Craig Lobban and the "New safari drinkhouse band what a life !!!!
