Caledonian Stadium will look second best
your maths is flawed, you also assume (a) we will get through, and (b)the Celtic game would be televised (not an unreasonablle assumption I admit), .... and of course you forgot the cost of moving the gas transmission line which renders a 4th stand practically impossible. So (assuming the gas pipe is magically moved for free) we spend 3/4 of a million pounds of money we do not have, on a structure that might see some action 2 or 3 times a season if you are lucky .... bearing in mind we have not sold out an OF game for 3 or 4 seasons, that assumption is a tad optimistic. Also, you are assuming there is no cost involved in running this stand on a matchday as 1000 people at £20 a head x 3 times a season seems to be where you gt 60K from ? There are no stewards, no police for this stand ? There is no damage to seats, no clearing up to be done, nothing else that eats into your projected 60K profit ? Ok, lets go with that figure ..... 12 1/2 years ..... thats how long it would take to generate the revenue spent on it upfront ..... so long as every single game against the OF was sold out to current capacity +1000 ... something we havent done in the last 4 or 5 years ......

Straight red cards
Refs have a hard job to do .... a very hard job. They have to make a split second decision based on their viewpoint of an incident which can often be obscured due to the action going on around them ..... With the ever increasing sophistication of technology allowing armchair fans an instant replay from 20 quazillion angles within a fraction of a second of the incident, it is made even harder. Over and above that, the fans themselves will often get a better view of the incidents from the stands given that they are elevated above the level of the pitch .... and of course home and away fans versions of any incident will vary greatly too so someone is going to moan no matter what ..... However, that does not remove the fact that someof our refs are, to put it bluntly, .... s*** !!!! and no amount of technology or assistance is going to change that. We do have some decent ones, but the overall perspective of refereeing in the SPL (and any other league) is dictated by just how bad the worst refs are .... I am on the fence about technology. I think there is probably some that could enhance the game with little impact/delay on the game itself, and some that would definitely detract from it ... the main question for me is whether or not any technologies implemented would detract from the game more so than decisions such as an erroneous sending off or a goal award that was dodgy against my team would ??? The easy options ..... Goal-line or side-line technology that detects when the ball goes out. Not much overhead there and a simple tone sent to an earpiece would indicate the ball crossing the line for a goal or when the full ball has gone out of play. Headsets and earphones so the refs and other officials are in constant contact and can actually assist each other with in-game decisions. More involvement from the 4th official, perhaps putting him in an elevated area of the stadium to give a birds eye viewpoint of any incidents such as offsides, bad tackles etc. His current role (watching club benches and organising substitutions) taken over by one of the standside officials. Additional Officials - We often see comments about the linesman (sorry Asst Ref) being miles away from the action so instead of one linesman per side, maybe 2 per side .. and unlike now, fully involved. I think these would be more important to have than the officials behind the goals that are being touted for testing at future UEFA/FIFA competitions, especially if goal-line technology was also used. If you have 5 officials as noted above, then for a straight red, 2 of them must concur on the decision as suggested by CaleyD. A red card can have such an effect on a game, and we have seen a rash of dodgy ones recently, so it would take a bit of pressure off the referee, and spread it around to all the officials. Harder options ..... The harder options all make it more like NFL (American) Football ... instant replay, timeouts, challenges to a decision etc and I dont think any are workable in the SPL. The technology is not there at every club to support the method of these things, and unless it can be done at every ground it is not fair ..... as an aside ..... its not just the SPL !!! MLS has a few good refs, and a plethora of absolutely shocking referees, including several full-time ones ! They do use headsets to stay in touch during the game, but its the same as the SPL ... 1 ref, 2 linesmen, and one 4th official and as with the SPL, the ref is the one with ultimate control, and the one who struts around owning the place. The fans moan long and loud about this as much as fans of SPL teams ! The worst part for me ... and I know this is not the ref's fault, as its dictated by the rules, but pretty much every TFC game is broadcast on TV, and the footage of the game, including replays is shown live on a large screen above one of the stands in the ground ... After a controversial incident or bad tackle etc, we (the fans) see it instantly on the screen (within 2-3 seconds), and the referee has to purposely turn away from the screen and not form an opinion based on the action on screen .... there have been some fair old howlers of decisions that could have been corrected if he had been allowed to look and take the appropriate action 5 seconds later than he actually did !

If we wanted a stand like the ones we currently have then I believe so, yes.

Caledonian Stadium will look second best
Different pipe I am afraid ... The one I refer to is the national gas transmission line that takes gas to the whole of the north ...

Inverness CT 1-1 Dunfermline - ScCup
Well, we are still in the hat for the next round draw, but only just. This was a tale of two keepers, or to be more correct, a tale of two keepers errors. In truth this was in my opinion one of the worst games of football ever witnessed at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium and neither side deserved to go into the next round. I was going to do a report on the game, but if truth be told, there was nothing to report other than two bloopers that led to both goals scored in farcical situations. The Dunfermline goal was even more incredulous when Gillet was given his marching orders for felling Andy Kirk after Tuffey committed blooper number one, and that was even topped off in style when the announcer said that Andy Barrowman was the scorer as the resultant free kick was palmed onto his bonce by Tuffey. Talk about adding insult to injury. Hayes returned the compliment in the sixth minute of stoppage time when Smith wildly sliced/fresh aired a simple rolling ball into the path of a delighted Jonny who rolled the ball into the empty net and that was blooper number two. Hislopsoffsideagain has saved me the bother of trying to come up with a report about nothing, although I will add that our throw-ins have reached an all time low as Thomas Piermayr was twice halted by the refereee for taking foul throws within the space of a few minutes. What on earth do they teach them in Austria. I think it's fair to say it is now official - 'Useless' Euan Norris is the worst official in Scottish football. Not content with screwing us over against Rangers, he appeared determined from the outset to allow our opponents to take liberties all over the pitch. The sending off of Gillet looked a bit fishy to me - Kenny appeared convinced he'd won the ball - and certainly there was plenty of protest that Barrowman was offside as he put Dunfermline in front. Two incidents summed Norris up - in the first half he pulled up Barrowman for his umpteenth foul and clearly gave him a 'final warning' chat; a minute later Barrowman hacks someone else...and Norris stops him for a long chat again. Then, right on half-time Dunfermline's defensive wall refused to retreat for a free kick even when the ref stood where he wanted them to be. Instead of booking one of them, he gave up when he got them 8 yards...and then ignored the fact that one of them raced out so they were about 5 yards from the ball when the free kick was taken. About the only thing that cretin of a referee got right was adding on six minutes for the obscene amount of time wasting the Pars did in the second half - though I don't know why he can't book the time wasters as well as adding on the time. If I was a Dunfermline fan, I would be horrified and ashamed by their second half performance. They never had any control over the game, even against ten men, and seemed content simply to camp out on the 18 yard box and see the game out. Entire civilizations have risen and fallen in the time it took them to make one substitution. They managed all of two speculative efforts on goal in the second period, as far as I can recall. As for us, we were pretty hopeless with eleven men, but I thought we did about as well as you can expect in the second half. Tuffers is the main villain of the piece - it was his horrendous air-shot on a backpass which led to the Gillet dismissal, and then he only managed to palm the resultant freekick straight to Barrowman. Frankly, he had fork all else to do for most of the game. Our back four did a pretty good job today. Piermayr did well when tucked in at centre-half, though Coxy looked a bit uncertain when he was shunted to right-back. Once again, Golobart was superb. Barrowman took one look at him and clearly decided "I'm not up for taking him on" - so nothing has changed from when he played for us. Most impressive for me was Foran, who I felt gave a real captain's performance today - he led by example with fantastic effort and seemed to be still urging everyone on even when all was lost. He's had plenty of criticism this season (much of it warranted) but since moved into midfield he has looked like a different man. The big message to take away from this game is this: If Dunfermline are like this every week, then there is absolutely no chance we are going down. 7th Jan 2012 Tulloch Caledonian Stadium SCOTTISH CUP RD 4 Inverness CT 1 - Hayes (90+4) /media/images/club_badges/inverness.png TEAM: Tuffey, Golobart, Tade, G.Shinnie, Gillet, Piermayr, Cox (Meekings 75), Hayes, Davis (Tansey 80), Foran, McKay (Doran 64) SUBS: Esson, Sutherland. Caledonian Stadium will look second best
Old news rehashed. You have seen the blueprints I assume ? All I have really seen or heard about is converting existing terracing into ICT style 'temporary' stands to bring it up to 6000 seats ... a full 1773 seats less than TCS. The only advantage they may have is that there could be stands on all 4 sides, but more of that below. Also, the project length is about the same as it took to build our stands, and the cost is lower (presumably because the stands themselves are smaller), so not sure how that automatically equates to a better facility ? What would be even more concerning to me if I was a County fan would be what seems to be a pretty wide scope of cost ... If they are ready to build, and know how long it will take, then how do they not have the cost nailed down a bit more accurately? with a variance of 33% in terms of the low and high ends of their projected figures it seems they may well be looking to see where corners can be cut economies can be made. Depends how you define 'temporary' in terms of the structure. Temporary in this sense means it has a certain lifespan as opposed to say a brick built structure that might last for a century or more. In this context temporary does not equate to short term or "cheap" that you seem to think it does and these stands will be around for a good few years. Whilst construction was quick and efficient, due in no small part to the design of the structures themselves, and a Caley Thistle season-ticket holding project manager who was "motivated" to make sure the project finished as quickly as possible, they were not "thrown up" ... and they will not be bulldozed quickly either given that they cost in excess of 7 figures to construct. Unless you have been living under a rock, or at sea for a while, you may have noticed we're not exactly flush with cash at the moment but if you want to donate a couple of million to the fund to get it up and running feel free to do so. As for bashing the board ... predictable and snoozeworthy as usual. incidentally, to add to the "temporary" stands debate .... the entire structure of BMO Stadium in Toronto with the exception of the main stand is of a similar "temporary" nature and quite happily holds 20,000+ for every home game. It cost in excess of $62m to build these "temporary" structures .... and like ICT, TFC will not be tearing them down anytime soon .... unless it is to increase the size of the stadium. Could have something to do with the high pressure gas transmission line that runs alongside the A9 between the stadium and the road .... in fact, I know it has because this was given as the reason when this subject was debated in depth on here and also on P&B. Utter bollocks !!!

Steve Williams
The first three sound like just what we need ...... its the last two that worry me greatly, BUT, Terry and Mo do seem to be able - for the most part - to spot potential and the quote below from that message board is perhaps indicative of a player who we could get on the cheap, but who could develop into someone of quality ..... like Jonny Hayes or Adam Rooney ... or in his position, Darren Dods who was a risky signing at the time but turned out to be a great player for our team. That description also reminds me of a Toronto player .... Andy Iro. He's a monster of a man. Liverpool born - and therefore physical like a lot of UK players - but went to college in America so suited to MLS, by all accounts a very personable chap off the park, but on it, 6' 5", built like a brick **** house and when he gets it right, it looks good, really good, especially when you see that size of a man go into a perfectly timed crunching tackle. OUCH ! .... but all too often last season he was the cause of defensive lapses and errors because he looked like he didnt know what to do sometimes .....
