Apparently there are more modern methods these days !!! Mine was a TRUS biopsy (google it) which has less pain and less risk of infection. It did sting like hell as I mentioned before, but not as painful as yours sounds ... was back in the car, sitting down, and being driven home less than 1 hour later. no residual bleeding or pain. back to work next day. Sure we never met ? I see your email address as an admin and other comments you have made over the years and pretty sure I know you and/or your family. I was friendly with a neighbour of yours who lived just round the corner in Lilac Grove and fairly sure we or other members of your family came into contact because of that and walking to school etc. Thanks for the words of kindness regarding mum and my sister. Mum is still going. wont say going strong as she has her own medical struggles to contend with, but she celebrated her 80th just a couple of weeks ago. She always tried to be useful, be it the Youth Club, the Community Centre or the Community Council, but not so much these days ... although she does seem to have mastered Skype to speak with her grandson and we are working on facebook so she can look at all the photos ! If you lost your own dad to it, or any other direct male relative has suffered prostate or testicular cancer then you should consider testing at any age above 45, or earlier if you see any symptoms or warning signs. My wife and my doctor got me into the routine of having a yearly MOT in my 40s and as soon as I hit 50 my doctor started doing the checks that all males should have ! I had a medical issue in my intestines 5 years ago and had a colonoscopy to check it out afterwards (all clear) and my fear of that was about the same as my fear of the biopsy for prostate. The worst thing I did was look it up on Google !!! The issue came up in this year's physical as my uncle died in July from prostate cancer. He had had it for a good few years and was 77 but my doctor agreed to send me for the test based on this info and because I asked. At the heart of things its a 3 stage test and you have to "qualify" for the next stage ! ...... stage 1 is often the gloved finger from your doctor. Nothing to worry about, at worst its a little uncomfortable rather than painful. They are checking for enlargement or firmness. The worst part is your own mindset or embarrassment, especially in my case with a female GP. Just remember, your doctor has likely seen thousands of arses in their time and yours is nothing special ! In many ways its worse for them as they are the ones having to stick a finger up someone else's bum ! Stage 2 is the PSA test (prostate-specific antigen). This is basically a blood test where they test for the presence of these antigens and give it a value. Common thinking was that a value less than 4.0 was ok and anything over might require a biopsy but modern thinking is that the test is nothing more than an indicator as cancer has been found in people below that mark and not in others above it. At worst it is a baseline, and if you get the tests regularly then the docs will be able to calculate the PSA doubling rate which is the speed that the number increases. Docs do seem to agree however that the higher the number, or the quicker it doubles over time, the more need there is to do a more specific test, namely the biopsy. That is stage 3 and I was referred to a urologist who reviewed my notes and then did his own finger test. That one WAS uncomfortable and he recommended the biopsy. The biopsy was done and yes it was uncomfortable. I had local anaesthetic and i did get the odd sting as the needle guided the biopsy process to various areas of the gland. The whole process took maybe 15-20 minutes so anyone can get through it. I did not have any symptoms like blood in urine, pain when peeing, or frequent trips to the bathroom, although looking back on it you can probably look to warning signs you may have missed, perhaps the odd 'dribble' here and there after finishing, or in my case, drinking a can of coke and needing to pee like a racehorse soon after (i stopped drinking carbonated drinks because of this). Hopefully mine has been caught in time as I do need to be around to see ICT lift the cup again and maybe play Toronto FC in the Club World Cup (although I might need immortality for that one). thanks. I intend to be !

*** VOTING IN THE POLL ABOVE IS FOR PEOPLE WHO WERE AT THE MATCH ONLY *** If you were at the match, please use the poll above to vote for your top 3 players. As a bit of fun, we have also added an option to rate the referee .... Please make sure you vote for 3 separate players. If you make an error, let us know so we can fix it. PLEASE ONLY VOTE ABOVE IF YOU WERE AT THE GAME Anyone caught trying to cheat the system WILL be banned from voting in ALL site polls...this is your only warning. **NOT at the game ?** As a result of requests received, we have made a slight change to how these threads work for site users who watched the game on TV or listened to the full game live on the radio ....... You too will now be able to cast your votes, but should do it in the thread below, and NOT in the official poll above. Just list the three players of your choosing and award 5,3, or 1 point(s). You can give the ref a mark if you want too ! These votes will NOT be counted in the official total, as we only count votes from those who where actually at the game, but it IS a way for you to participate in the process .... which many people asked for .... a happy medium we hope !!!!!

The testing definitely sounds worse than the reality (the same applies for a colonoscopy which both males and females of a certain age should also not be scared of!) .... The PSA test is a simple blood test to begin with and if the numbers come back low then its unlikely you will go any further down the route. Just get it done if you are of a certain age or have family members who have had this or testicular cancer, or even female relatives with certain 'female' cancers too. Your doctor may do the gloved finger test to check for enlargement or firmness but thats only a few seconds of discomfort as opposed to pain. In my case the numbers came back high and I was referred to a urologist. The urologist felt firmness but no enlargement and taking that along with the PSA results I was booked in for a biopsy based on those pieces of data. This is the part that scared me, but much like the colonoscopy I had nearly 5 years ago (and due to have again next year) my brain - and Dr Google - made it into a far huger deal than it actually was. No general anaesthetic for me - it was not an option - but the (TRUS) procedure was not that bad. I had a single 'ativan' tablet to chill me out but the doctor started before it took effect and I ended up getting the giggles after the procedure was over ! Although they freeze the area, the procedure itself did sting like a mother****** but on a scale of 1-10 it was maybe only a 3 or 4 and only then when they took each sample. The noise was worse, it sounded like a staple gun as they pressed whatever it was they used to take the sample cores. I had minimal bleeding afterwards and was fine to go back to work next day. Only reason I was not allowed to drive same day was because of the chill pill ! What does warm my heart though is that I now know of at least 3 more people who have gone for or booked themselves in for testing. That is awesome. Its a scary thing to do, but ignoring it wont make it go away, it just makes the result potentially worse further down the line. I am going to move this topic out of the football forum into the serious topics forum so we can get back to football in the ICT one. My doctor has recommended keeping a journal of the journey so I may revitalise my blog page on here or I may setup a personal website where i can share more info, but the football forum should be devoid of this kind of thing

There's a few of them confronted me over the years, mostly for what other folk said ...... but I also agree. Fine line between abuse and criticism. Criticism is ok, especially if you have the balls to back it up or say it face to face. Abuse is never ok and some of the stuff thrown at the likes of Vigurs, Polly and now White is just bang out of order. The lad is scoring goals, they may not be goals of the season, but so long as they hit the back of the net thats all that matters. We are no longer a top six premiership team so expecting that level of performance from players we can currently afford in our budget is completely unrealistic. Robbo has to get the best he can out of the group he has. He has done it before and is trying again ... As much as we are all frustrated with all the draws, as someone pointed out in another thread, they are not defeats ..... a couple of wins and a few more goals and we will all be much happier.

As weird as it sounds I have been fortunate so far ! The diagnosis was hard to take and then within a few days I was at the hospital laying inside a couple of big machines getting first a full body bonescan and then multiple CT scans of every bit of my torso. Both of these tests came back clear on Tuesday and I was literally punching the air. A long way to go but that is a good starting point. I will take as many small victories as I can at this point ! I totally hear you about the man thing and I think it is exacerbated in the Highlands as - like it or not - we also have that stoic Highland reserve that just adds to the stubbornness we have when it comes to our health (or from making too much noise at a football match). My uncle died of PC in July and I went for my yearly medical in September and it rolled on from there. I have a great family doctor who is very direct and proactive when it comes to referring you to specialists. Toronto is also a great city when it comes to research and top professionals in many fields so my outlook is positive. I signed up for this Movember stuff so I could feel useful and this morning I shaved off all the facial fuzz that has adorned my visage for the last fifteen years ! You want a laugh (or a post-halloween fright) ... head over to that page and take a look at the before and after. Will keep loading images as the fuzz grows back ! My aim, other than raising money is also to get people to go and get checked. Its not just men for prostate or other cancers but women too. I am happy to report that two people in my circle - one male, one female, one in Inverness and one in Toronto - have already booked doctors appointments for this purpose. That puts a huge smile on my face. Not sure how things will pan out on the site for now ... I may be bored and spend more time on it or I may take a step back and let TM4TJ and the mods run the show (TM4TJ pretty much does that already it has to be said). Either way,

As I mentioned above, I lost a sister to cancer a few years ago. At the time she was 22 years old. When she passed, I tried to do something to “give back” to the community of professionals and volunteers who combined to help her through her diagnosis, treatment and care. I ended up organizing several charity events and raised a decent sum which we donated to local charities in Inverness. I know I will receive a lot of care and support from health care professionals here in Canada, not all of it funded by our tax dollars, so that got me wondering how I could “give back” on this occasion too. That is when I saw an ad on a cancer related webpage for Movember! I know what it is, and have donated before, but have never taken part. As unfortunate as it is, the timing just seems right for me to participate in ‘Movember’ this year to raise awareness of the need to get tested – even if you are not ‘old’ - and to raise funds to fight this hellish disease or to support those providing resources to patients and their families. My initial aim is to try and raise CDN $1000 from my ‘Movember’ page and I would ask anyone who is interested in helping me to reach that target to go to my page at https://mobro.co/highlanderict to donate if you can. (or click the movember graphic in my signature).

Hi Friends and fellow ICT fans. I am still emotionally processing what I am about to share with you from medical tests I have recently undergone ... but in the last two weeks I have received confirmation that I am suffering from Prostate Cancer. Yesterday I got results from a second round of tests that showed (luckily) the cancer seems to be isolated to the prostate and has not spread to my bones or other organs. Over the next few weeks I will meet with various specialists to discuss the proposed course of action. Over the years, I have lost a sister and an uncle to cancer. I have seen family, friends and colleagues battle with it and come through the other side, and I have also seen the physical and emotional toll it takes on those supporting a loved one as they go through it. I am incredibly lucky to have a very supportive and loving wife who will be my rock as we go through this (as I will try to be hers too). Although I have shared this news with my immediate family, I have agonized over how and when to tell extended family, friends, colleagues and others since my diagnosis, but now that I have let my closest friends know I have decided to put this news out there now. This is not a cry for sympathy or pity - I don’t need those. It is because I truly value my family, friends and colleagues and want you to know at least a little bit of what’s going on in my life and why I may have both light and dark days in my immediate future. I apologise in advance if you catch me on one of those bad days where I might seem disinterested, distant, disengaged or snarky. I have a mountain to climb but I am confident I have the support and love I need from my wife and son and from family and friends to do so and to remain (mostly) positive in this fight. Your ongoing support is appreciated and welcomed and if you can do only one thing for me, I ask that you treat me as you always have, as your friend, relative or colleague and not as some fragile or breakable item that must be treated with kid gloves. Being treated normally will go a long way to keeping me positive. One motivator in revealing this information is to try and raise awareness of the need to get tested – even if you are not ‘old’ ! If my message generates conversations about Prostate Cancer or inspires even one of my friends or relatives to go and get checked then that will be a great feeling. I know I will get the support I need and I am more than happy to pay that forward and talk to people about what I have gone through already .. and what may come in future. Talk to you soon. Take Care Scott

this wasnt a relegation payment it was a European bonus based on the performance of Celtic. Dont think we got anything last year as Celtic had not done that well the season before ... but yes we have had it in the past. Its basically free money, and if the numbers mentioned in here are right, almost double what we might get for a whole season in the championship.
-
On the whole I agree ... but if it looks like we have a chance then maybe its time to take a slightly bigger risk. Not outlandish administration causing risks, but calculated ones !
-
Whilst I do like the good governance approach of taking minimal risks and living within our means, which is what the club has run with for most of our existence (outside the first few years), there does come a time when you need to take a slightly riskier approach. There was an article this week that County and other Premier sides from last year just got a bonus of £371,000 plopped into their accounts for Celtic's European adventures. How huge would that be for Robbo's budget right about now !!! I take it from the article that Championship teams get nothing? If that's the case then the gulf will widen unless we do everything we can to get back to the top league and survive there.

Yes we have ..... not in terms of collaboration or related to this topic (which we are always open to), but more in terms of wrapping up business dealings associated with our previous services of website hosting, maintenance & security as well as the provision of stats, league tables, squad and fixture lists which are no longer required by them. We have also confirmed and paid our player sponsorship this week after receiving the invoice.

Obviously I cannot be there, but If anyone from this forum is going there then please convey our willingness to be part of the process. All it takes is a little communication

I would agree with RiG, the smaller the club (or league) then the greater the reliance on income directly from fans. Once a club gets to a certain size - thinking English Premiership here or other similar leagues - then income from fans is but one of many revenue streams, and not the biggest one. I remember seeing something about Man Utd at some point about transfer dealings, and the sale of merchandise with a new player name on it for example offsets a huge portion of that player's transfer fee ... the numbers were mind boggling. For ICT and teams like us though, the fans still are (or should be) important ... personally I think a Friday night is better than any other time that has been dreamed up outside of the traditional Saturday 3pm, but I am sure you could ask a hundred others and come up with quite a few different responses. Do the club even have a say in this ? Not sure they do.
