Why do so many people insist on playing Cowie out wide? We saw last season that he was far more effective when played on the inside and pushing forward from there. Having looked back through the match reports for the games in which Cowie scored last season and more than half of them were scored when he was played inside or in front of midfield supporting a lone striker. Others were scored from break aways and set pieces or when Cowie had come inside when we were on the ascendancy. If he's going to score goals from those positions, then surely it makes sense to play him in those positions? We have Barry Wilson sitting on the bench being wasted IMO. OK, so he may no longer be able to last 90 minutes in a competitive match, but we should be using him for far more than the final 10 or 15 minutes of a game. IMO, we should be starting with a central line of something like.... Wilson, Cowie, Black, Imrie (add McBain if we're going 5 across the middle at home and Duncan if it's away) We can then look to be bringing young Zander Sutherland more and more in to the games as Wilson's replacement for the last 25 minute or so in a match, with a view to him becoming a more permanent replacement by the end of the season and getting regular starts.
  2. I've heard talk that Liverpool have made mention of a re-match at some point in the future and that they'll be fielding a stronger squad when it happens. Seems that the lads out there on Monday night earned a lot of respect from Gary Ablett, his coaches and the squad...so a big well done yet again.

  4. Les Kidger has asked that I pass on thanks from him and the Testimonial Committee to everyone that turned up on Monday Night and for your great support. Apologies for me being slow to put this up on the site as I've been snowed under the last 2 days. I also have a report from the night to get up and photos from Gordon Gillespie....hopefully have them on the site within the next couple of hours.

What we saw with Sutherland and Wagaluka was something not witnessed at TCS for a long long time.....ICT taking advantage of the width of the pitch with pacey players. We've not had that option since Robson left, and it was a joy to watch on Monday Night.
  6. I wasn't saying that people should be expected to cover for Duff (or anyone) all the time, and I'm not making excuses for his mistake or trying to make him feel better. The point I was making is that as Duncan and Hastings were positioned to cover then I feel they could and should have done better and the goal, even after Duff's error, was preventable.
  7. Seriously? That's really spooky because I shouted that a couple of times in the North Stand.

....and give the drums to the two wee lads on a permanent basis. Had to have a wee chortle when you passed the drum forward after trying your best to get the crowd going a couple of times....only for things to really pick up when they started battering away on it and making you look like Amateurs. Time for you to retire gracefully

  10. Whilst we're all busy dishing out praise to the lads on the pitch tonight for a great performance let's not forget that Barry's Testimonial Committee also deserve some credit for what was, all in all, a great nights entertainment...and to John Robertson who, I believe, was the man behind setting up Liverpool as the opponents. Thanks also to the club for the part they played, to Craig Brewster for allowing the players time off to play, to past players and their clubs for coming back to see us...and to anyone else I've missed. Also, big thumbs up to the fans for turning out on what was a pretty miserable evening, especially those in uncovered areas of the ground who took a drenching the entire night and, for the most part, just grinned and bared it. It wasn't a league or cup win, it wasn't securing a top 6 finish or saving us from relegation....but it was a very enjoyable night and the near sell out crowd was fitting tribute for Barry, who, without a shadow of a doubt, will be remembered and talked about long after he hangs up his boots (which hopefully isn't for a little while yet).
  11. Oh, and whilst I remember (and since Jailender is lurking) ICT Legends 1 v 0 County Legends
  12. I wouldn't be so sure that's the last we see of Wagaluka. He would have had to get clearance from the SFA to have played in tonights game. "Officially" he would have played as a trialist tonight, even though he was named.

On tonight's showing, I'd have Djebi-Zadi in at left back ahead of Hastings. Guy barely put a foot wrong the entire game and by feck can he shift at a fair pace for a big fella. He ran up and down that left wing tirelessly the whole game.
  14. Wagaluka looks like a useful player, although he never really had a chance to get going as Liverpool quickly spotted he had pace and spent all their time hanging on to his shirt. Zander got similar treatment. Neither of them let it get to them though and battled on, twisting and turning and creating problems out wide.
  15. Those advertising boards are a joke...for all the reasons listed above and so many more. I was sitting at the back row of Section G tonight and could only just see the touchline over the top of them, so I'd imagine half to two thirds of people in the North and South Stands now have what is effectively a restricted view....If I was a season Ticket holder I would be asking for them to be shifted or a refund on a ticket which has been miss-sold as I don't believe anyone was given warning of the restricted view.
  16. Take nothing away from Liverpool tonight....they played not bad, and had enough possession. Unfortunately for them, we had Bobby Mann and....Lionel Djebi-Zadi....they were both immense at the back. In fact, I can honestly put hand on heart and say that I don't think anyone in an ICT shirt had a bad game tonight. All credit to both teams for an entertaining match and not letting the weather turn it into a dull eventless game. 10/10 for everyone on the smiley-o-meter.
  17. Why would I? I support ICT
  18. Caleyrule, you sound a bit like a Liverpool Fan without the bus fare. You know, the ones who support a team they're never likely to go see live and just buys the shirt so they can wear it while watching the matches on the TV? I don't think anyone ever gave the impression that the LIverpool Squad coming up for the game would be anything other than what it is. And, like me, I'm sure the vast majority of (home) fans will be there tonight to support Barry Wilson and will barely give second thought to who's wearing the Liverpool shirts.
  19. Not seen these new advertising boards....where exactly are they?
  20. Five withdrawls now!!! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/i...als/7567763.stm
  21. The players were training yesterday, although I believe this had more to do with giving them time off today as opposed to it being a punishment for Saturdays non-effort.
  22. Or select "Travel Info" from the Club Guide menu at the top of the page
  23. The best thing that could be done would be to let him get right back up on the horse. It's not as if any of the other options have done anything to show that they are any better (yet) and the last thing we want is to have to bring him on at some point in the future during a crucial moment in a match and realise that his confidence is shot to pieces and he buckles as a result. Even if we only give him 20 minutes at the end of the game next week it would help.

Having just watched the BBC highlights I think there's more than Duff at fault for the goal. Ok, he misses the ball and Offiong should never have had the opportunity to run at goal but what was that by Duncan? Not only was he just casually strolling back and never took off till Offiong was past Duff, bute should have slid in to that, not try to tickle Offiong off the ball and Hastings should have been running in behind the keeper to cover the shot to the back post. Yeah, hindsight is a great thing, but that was slack play and should have been easily dealt with by any of the 3 of them.

You said just before kick off, that you were glad we were going for 4-5-1, now your saying it was wrong? Do you take your laptop to the game caleyD? Good old selective quoting....try taking my statement in context of the rest of the post and the post/s I was replying too and you might just pick up that I was being ironic. :thumb04: And, no I don't take my laptop to games.....although what thathas to do with anything I have no idea.
