  1. As expected, Cove cruised past Golspie. Was slightly disappointed that Harestanes lost comfortably to Girvan, but as is often the case at amateur level, they had player availability problems. (best man duties, couldn't get off work, forgot there was a game etc...) The final Preliminary round draw: Civil Service Strollers v Kelty Hearts Hermes v Auchinleck Talbot Wigtown & Bladnoch v Hawick Royal Albert Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale v Girvan Cove Rangers v St. Cuthbert Wanderers
  2. Tuesday 18th August Inverness CT v Dundee - Grant Street Park, 6.00pm
  3. Not that it matters much, but we didn't actually win the 2nd half....
  4. Doran. Please! Dorran doesn't even look right!
  5. Bumping this, as it's all starting on Saturday! Golspie don't start their North Caledonian League season until September, whereas, Cove have had 5 wins from 5 in their season so far - they could win this by 8 or 9!
  6. Some parallels with last season - 4th league fixture, we're playing Celtic - they've got a huge European game next-up in a few days.... Last season, they 'rested' 10 players and we won 1-0! I don't think they'll be too bothered about this game. If it was allowed, and Yogi and Ronny had a chat on the phone - "don't bother coming down, will you take a 0-0, John?", I think both parties would take that!
  7. caley100 : The season stretches until May next year, and as much as I'm keen to see us get a win, I really don't think an August league game can be described as a 'must win'! Biggin : I don't agree that "...the first 3 games we should have been on 9pts...". That sort of thinking is where expectations sometimes exceed realism. Taking our best results from the corresponding fixtures last season - with (virtually unanimously agreed) our best ever team - we only got 4pts.
  8. 28% meat and 2.5% Buckfast! What about the other 69.5%?!!!
  9. I'm pretty sure he's French. Brother of Paul n all They are all from Africa, Paul just chose to play for France because he's good! I think The Partick Pogba has played for his country and has a twin brother who has also played for his country and plays in France just now. Paul Pogba was born in France and plays for the French national team, whereas the other two older brothers were born in Guinea and both play for the Guinea national team. Is the other brother a striker too? The St Etienne Pogba is apparently a central defender.

  11. I'm pretty sure he's French. Brother of Paul n all Conakry, Guinea Bobo Balde has already ticked the box for Guinea!

  14. I read that Ali Sutherland got our other goal.
  15. The 'Contract Situation' thread doesn't bother with the 'option for a further year' nonsense. Utterly ridiculous. If a player is good enough, they'll get kept on: if not, they'll be released. It's only meant as a guide to the end of a player's minimum stay, but I sometimes wonder about its feasibility - as any player can just leave at any time!
  16. Will be interesting to see how he gets on at that level. Huge jump in standard from Conference South to League One. (6th tier to 3rd tier)
  17. I'm sure he could do a job for a Championship team like Raith, Dumbarton or Livi. But, I think Premiership is now beyond him.
  18. No Development League game today - but we have a game up in Caithness against Halkirk United in the quarter-finals of the North of Scotland cup. (7.30pm). It doesn't have to be the youngsters that play, but with our injury situation and a game against Partick tomorrow, I doubt there will be any first team players involved.
  19. Thomas Piermayr has signed for a club called Bekescsaba, who are level 2 in Hungary.
  20. HaHaHa! Now that is surely a joke!!!!
  21. Barcelona v Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday will be interesting. Potentially volatile. Collum in charge.
  22. ...and Adam Rooney nets from the spot - deadly from 12 yards!
  23. ^^^ He was a hugely promising player and highly regarded through all the youth ranks at the club (top scorer in all age groups, I believe) - but sustained a bad injury at a crucial stage in his development. He was subsequently released - football can be ruthless! But, glad he's making a go of it in the Highland League. Interesting archive article here, although it does go a bit off-topic near the end! http://caleythistleonline.com/topic/22739-adam-macleod/ Small profile from his U19 days http://www.ictfc.co.uk.p.preprod.performgroup.com/articles/20100727/adam-macleod_2208839_2103531
