  1. Grew up beside Kingsmills and was a Thistle supporter, with Aberdeen as my 'big' team. By the time I'd moved to Glasgow at the end of '91, though, I'd pretty much lost interest in football. Then 5 years later, my best mate, who'd started going to see ICT occasionally after they were formed, suggested going along to a league game against Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill. We won 3-0 and that, and the terrific surroundings, were enough to get me hooked. That game was also the game where Tokely scored his first ever goal for the club, I think. He also scored in the next one I went to, away to Queen's Park. I must have thought he was ICT's answer to Henrik Larsson...
  2. This, completely. Maybe I'm naturally pessimistic, but I've never really felt this 'belief' thing. Mostly I follow the team because I enjoy the whole ritual of game days, and for those amazing results or performances that sometimes happen. Under Pele, the completely cavalier approach to football was also a big factor for me. I suppose this lack of 'belief' or high expectations is why I never really feel the need to call for a manager's head, although the way we played in the last couple of months under Brewster was an exception. TBH, the team has far exceeded what I might have hoped for when I started following them - I don't think there's another team in Scotland that would have been more enjoyable to support over the past 15-odd years.
  3. More importantly, you need to book tickets to Paisley - you're paying me in. P*ssed off about the Hibs game being the one to be switched - it's a far better away day than any of the other four.
  4. Couldn't make it up so I avoided the scores all afternoon and turned on Alba at half five to watch it as live... and got 10 minutes of Richard Harris in Camelot instead. Was just about to check online to see if the game had acually been played when it cut back in 3 minutes into the first half. Odd. Anyway, great to see a really battling performance and a deserved three points. I thought the midfield had more presence than it has had since Davis' departure - Jones and Foran worked well together. Billy Mackay used the ball very intelligently up front too, until he had to be sacrificed, and the defending was terrific when we down to ten. Not a particularly beautiful game to watch, but that should make us safe from relegation now, and Terry can start thinking properly about the team he wants for next season. Given that the last time I had to miss an away game we beat Killie 6-3, I'm also thinking I should become a full time armchair supporter.
  5. My thoughts are with you, Laura.
  6. It probably was a little optimistic to think that we had a good chance of winning today - that's still a pretty decent Rangers team when you put aside the upheavals at the club - but the ICT performance was disappointing by any standards. Given the fact that so many of our current squad are on short term or loan deals anyway, we won't have much choice but to overhaul the squad for next season, but it's frustrating to think that we could be in this sort of situation for the foreseeable future and possibly never return to the sort of settled, gradually-evolving squad that we had for so long.
  7. Ditto our defending. One of our worst ever performances against an old firm team so far.
  8. Really disappointing. They look far stronger than us physically and are keeping the ball better. Not impressed with Tansey's use of the ball at all so far.
  9. I like the changes Butcher has made. Think that Rangers team looks OK, though. Edu and Davis in the middle are pretty strong; Aluko will cause problems, and McCulloch is going to be a handful up front.
  10. As usual, great account from hislopsoffside again. Couple of things to add: Foran was terrific. Worked harder than any other player on the park and on a day when too many ICT players, unusually, looked like they didn't care, fought for everything and tried to make things happen. We would not have equalised had it not been for Billy Mackay's persistence in the box. Deserves a start next week: despite his goal, Ross is not a striker, and Gnapka didn't quite seem to know where he should be playing. Kenny Gillet is the best player on the books and should stay at centre back. All in all, it was a horrible game of football and we would do well to improve next week, but Dunfermline were at least as bad as us and we're no worse off with one less game to play.
  11. Got a ticket sorted at the 11th hour so I'll be there. Not expecting anything from the game, but Celtic Park doesn't bother me much apart from the crappy view. Capital Caley's right - the stewarding has been much better recently. Possibly something to do with all this 'greeen brigade stuff' - they've obviously failed to get them to sit down, so maybe they're being a little more lenient with visiting supporters.
  12. How about this wee number? The lead singer is Chick's ex-missus...
  13. So you do pronounce the g? I wondered... Incidentally, can anyone tell me definitively whether the g in 'Gnasher' was/is pronounced? When I was a kid, the Beano readers at school could never reach a consensus.
  14. Good thread. I'll go: Zibi Byrne Parrat Aldred Morgan Eagle Kerr Stratford Macdonald Barrowman McSwegan (4-3-3 because I'm struggling to think of seriously underperforming midfielders in the past few seasons)
  15. Fantastic result with so many changes.
  16. Brian Irvine sounds desperate forHearts to score. Tokely on for Ross. And Hibs go behind again!
  17. According to Scott Davie, the accolade was because he scored his first goal for the club... Kilmarnock going into meltdown at home again - now 3-0 Dunfermline. And Hibs equalise again.
  18. 'Caley Thistle suddenly look nervy now they have a lead to defend' according to Scott Davie. That's been a problem all season, unfortunately. Even though it's a new defence, hopefully they can take inspiration from last week's performance.
  19. The final game of the second set was one of the most entertaining I've ever seen. Some outrageous skill from both players.
  20. Not at all. I'll chip in if you want to send him a box of Roses too.
  21. Well done Nick Ross. We've been by far the better side in extra time. Another good save by Tuffey there.
