Scottish Cup 5th round draw:Stranraer
Got to be happy with that. Three lower league teams guaranteed in the quarter finals. Aberdeen or Celtic out. Another wide open cup competition. Am I right in thinking that we had a midweek game against Stranraer as our very first game down the Longman or is my increasingly middle aged memory failing me ?

A surprising twist in recent days...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................almost a week since Beastie has mentioned Paul Sturrock...

Strongly suspect there's only one job in Scotland that would interest Owen Coyle.

Add St Johnstone to that list and I would be happy either home or away.

Hearts Hearts Embarrassing Hearts
Sort of thread that could well come back to haunt us in a fortnight. Anyway the result is no more a disgrace to Scottish football than Man City putting 7 past Norwich was to English.

What's the hurry ? Nobody has been able to lay a glove on us since we became effectively managerless.

Thought that Hartley dealt with the media questioning about the ICT job very well and showed great respect for his current employers and their fans. Could teach a thing or two to some older and more experienced managers in that regard.

...and he speaks English. Seriously though, if these are indeed the final two candidates it seems that Hartley would be a choice 15 times more popular with the fans than Hughes if the poll on this site is any guide. Given how close the club are playing their cards to their chest, I still think there could be a dark horse.

Of course he's just guessing. We all are.

If we take Kenny Cameron's statement literally there must be an even number of interviewees as he indicated at the time that half of them would be interviewed later in the week due to club commitments.

Or, Caley D could dig out his radio mike and take to the pitch at half time to read out a list of candidates. We can then elect the new manager democratically on a show of hands. Shouldn't take too long to count given the likely crowd tomorrow.

CJT cup semi final statement
'Football Special' trains used to be run on a regular basis. I remember one running from Inverness to Ayr in the seventies when Thistle were drawn away there in the Scottish Cup. As I recall, it was fully subscribed with about 350 enthusiastic Jaggies. Whenever Aberdeen reached cup finals or semis in those days often two or three football specials would run from Aberdeen direct to Mount Florida. That was when the rail system was joined up and operated by British Rail. I am supposing that the dislocation of the system following privatisation makes such arrangements difficult if not impossible now.

Hamilton are top of their league and are one of the few clubs in the country with money in the bank.

Or maybe casting his eyes over a young player or two to bring to Alloa on loan.

I was amused to see that Craig Brewster felt the need to clarify that he ruled himself out. Expect a similar statement from Sergei Baltacha next....

May indeed be announced on Monday but I would be surprised if anyone in the ticket office know any more than the rest of us.

Barry Wilson has been touted as a possibility despite only managing in the Highland League for a matter of months. In the unlikely event that we were going to go down the route of former ICT player with Highland League experience, Les Fridge might be the safer option having managed Nairn County with increasing success and on a tighter budget than Barry has at Wick. That said, I doubt either is under serious consideration.
