Never underestimate the importance of sport in the morale of a nation..... Never met you Clacher but I think you're probably a bit young to remember Argentina 78 and the first devolution referendum of 1979....... It took us a long time to recover from having belief in a superb team in late 77, to being shown up as losers/junkies/alkies in front of the whole world 9 months later. To make it worse, the 'British' media didn't have England to cover so they just made up stories about the Scotland players instead. Same in 1974- I've still got some footage of the Essex boys from the tabloids trying to wind up Willie Ormond at training one day. born 25 of january 1983 at 6.05 ante meridiem i believe.. that comment about the football team doing better having a direct effect on national confidence wasnt really a joke, i was doing this :015: more because the connection itself is ridiculous

aye they even named a supporters club after him the bass! ..scotland is better equipped for independance now than any european country ever has bee... its coming if charles bannerman wants it or not the upsurge in support for independance; possibly more to do with bert vogts getting sacked and us a year or two later moving to 16th in the world than anything else? :015: or maybe the population in general is starting to realise that we already can support big business, academic insitutions which are recognised globally, can be trusted to run a parlament in edinburgh and potentially can p1ss off into the distance in terms of quality of life for average punters compared to those south of the border where racial/migrant tensions, crime and poverty are starting to take over? who knows. i blame walter smith and thank him for it. if scotland had beaten italy last week then the snp would be 10 points clear ahead of labour by now instead of 6

messenger sound system at the bongo club cheers! brilliant result and the effort is a credit to the f#kin shirt, proud of all 10 of them. said it in the chatroom before the game that we had pciked out best 11 (minus duncan for black) and this result proves exactly what we are capable of ive said tihs before but dont presume anything of the "anti cc" crowd on here, we are all ict fans aswell and love that we've done the huns again, doesnt change a thing though with regards to how we feel about the managers postion. yes there was alot of talk on here after we lost 3-1 at home to the side at the bottom of the league (lest you all forget) in our last game but that shouldnt take anything away from todays performance,, today was fuckin magic after being down a man and a goal so early between now and the end of the season we will see what christie can do longer term..... dont misread that, i know longer term means seasons but itll show us his ability to manage and motivate the team. we have 6 games left against our real league rivals coming up, thats where he and the current squad should be judged awesome today though, massive thumbs up from me :021:

No. He is playing for them because he has been solid for us ever since he returned to the club and deserves to be back in the squad. I have never been Richard's biggest fan, and indeed published a scathing article about him when he left us. However, as with most football stories there are two sides to every one of them and I can assure you (via impeccable sources) that we most definitely only heard one side at the time and that it was spun so effectively that it met itself coming back !!! Like most, I bought the spin hook-line-and-sinker but heard the real story a few years later when he was playing on the continent. Turning to the Canadian national side ..... Yes indeed, Canada have a mediocre team at the moment - football is not the national sport and although hundreds of thousands of kids play it every day in school, and there are thousands of after-hours/weekend 'soccer' leagues across the country, until very recently any half decent players had to head for foreign climes to ply their trade or just give up when they reached a certain age and turn their attention to Hockey, Basketball, Baseball or even Lacrosse which has traditionally been a higher paying career than 'soccer' as there was no clear route to a higher level within Canada. With all due respect to teams like the Toronto Lynx or Vancouver Whitecaps, they are on a par with the lower leagues of Scotland and when compared to other sports watching or participating in these leagues is not very attractive. In the last 6 months, the momentum and interest for football has been gathering speed, especially in Toronto. It is being plugged on TV on an almost daily basis, and the increase in its profile is amazing. This is due in no small way to Toronto FC being awarded an MLS franchise which will finally give young Canadian players a "goal" to aim for (pardon the pun) and a chance to actually make a career in their own country at a decent level. Toronto FC has sold out of season tickets (14,000) and half season tickets and other packages are being snapped up frantically and most of this happened even before the announcement that Beckham would sign for LA Galaxy and likely make his North American debut in Toronto. The national side has been plagued with ineffective management both of the team and its national body and recently the heads of both have been replaced. The side is currently managed by a 'caretaker' manager who hopes to get the job permanently and he seems to have given an indication with this squad that he will ditch the traditional method of picking players that has existed in the last few years which was to pretty much pick only Canadians playing in Canada [equivalent to Alex McLeish picking only players from SFL2 & 3] and instead cast his net to pick the best Canadians regardless of where they play. With Toronto FC committed to having a core of Canadian players, increased interest in the media, and hundreds of thousands of kids playing the game and now seeing a possible career in it, dont be surprised if Canada starts climbing the rankings quite dramatically .... It might take several years, but ignore them at your peril :004: ill take my chances and ignore them

not that strange a move considering the stage in the season, sure he'll have his options from both sides of the border over the summer what he did for motherwell that brewster never stayed with us long enough to do (and probably never wouldve) was guide them through a series of economic purges on the squad that most other coaches wouldve ran a mile from and somehow kept the club/young squad moving forward in yearly league postiions and cup competitions im a big big fan of his, ive no doubt if he were the ict coach we would be serious contenders for a top six finish next year and would attract a quality of player to the club we havent seen before. he'd improve everything surrounding the football side of the club; training, youth development, scouting etc i dont remember him ever haivng a budget to spend at motherwell either, would be interesting to see what he'd do with even a small one. him or bobby williamson would be my choice of coach if i was fortunate enough to be making these kinds of decisions comparing his credentials to cc's is laughable, its like comparing the vatican and the ferry.

think im more of a fan of post culloden scotland than pre culloden. suppose all the economic and social progress im happy we made from the mid 1740's onwards really started with the act of union, after culloden we finally had a bit of pollitical stability which helped the country as a whole move forward. ultimatley this battle led to scotland playing a central role in creating the british empire... came at a hoor a price for our ancestors in the highlands though, to put it lightly post culloden we started travelling the world under the union flag, having a much greater influence than london in terms of forming economic, academic or judicial institutions around the world. would never have happened if the jacobites had gathered support on the march through england and actually won, scotland wouldve been pushed back at least a generation and probably taken about 50 years to recover. all history though, theres an election coming up which will decide where the next 250 years go, which im hoping goes the way of the snp finally.. but that another topic !

was this not the game hastings was in the squad for? cant find who was picked anywhere! ___________ Men's National Team Sunday, March 25, 2007 Canada defeats Bermuda 3:0 http://www.canadasoccer.com/eng/medi...?Press_ID=2652 HAMILTON, BERMUDA - Canada’s men’s national team defeated Bermuda today 3:0 in their first international friendly of the 2007 season. Atiba Hutchinson, Tomasz Radzinski and Paul Stalteri all scored for Canada as they rolled to an easy victory at the National Stadium in Hamilton, Bermuda. 'We finished with three goals at the half, but it could have easily been more,' says coach Stephen Hart. 'We could have been a little more ruthless in front of the goal. Perhaps on another day, with a little more composure, it could have been a greater score.' Canada concluded a one-week training camp in Bermuda before today’s friendly. The score flattered the hosts who rarely threatened Canadian goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld. 'The best part of the camp was to work together for an extended period,' says Hart. The visitors opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Radzinski took a quick throw in to Hutchinson who out muscled the Bermudian defender and then hit a hard, low shot which beat goalkeeper Timmy Figuerido. Five minutes later, Martin Nash showed off his distribution skills with a great pass to Radzinski, who had made a great run behind the back four. Radzinski’s perfect first touch enabled him to round Figuerido and finish cleanly. In the 44th minute, Radzinski played Stalteri through and the right back made no mistake beating Figuerido to the near side to give the Canadians a well deserved 3:0 lead going into the dressing room at halftime. The Canadians should have added to their tally in the second half but could not find the back of the net. Rob Friend, who replaced Olivier Occean up front, saw his header off a corner kick fly past the post in the 60th minute. Next up was Hutchinson who rattled the crossbar with a long range blast in the 63rd minute. Josh Simpson, who came on for Nash in midfield, saw his shot strike the near post in the dying minutes. Kevin Harmse made his senior team debut when he replaced Julian de Guzman in the 75th minute.

agree with most of it; canadas breakaway goals, fletcher being brilliant, rory doing nothing (and we shouldnt judge him on the 10 minutes he did get)

surely we've got better looking fans and players than this lot :015: ive never even heard of the north kessockl hotel, assume its just overthebridge then, is she a county fan
