  1. Dont see what the problem is ...... on any level

Personally, I prefer a minute's silence myself, especially when it is observed by all and then followed by deafening noise as everyone applauds everyone else for being respectful, but apparently the O'Donnell family preferred to have applause in memory of Phil and as far as I am concerned, the wishes of the family would always over-ride my preference as a fan. so that should remove the argument about silence/applause.

Well said Scotty.  Generally a really negative thread this :(

The way I see it from what I've learned about Phil O'Donnell this week is that the applause is celebrating his life and what he stood for, namely the love of his family, football and the way in which fans from all clubs have come together to mourn someone who by all accounts was a top guy.  These are all things everyone can relate to.

Its a minute of our lives, just get on with it!  I can't believe folk have even discussed the issue it to this extent because the reasons for having it are so feckin obvious!!

  2. Anyone know if a visiting team has ever been prevented from getting to Inverness at all since 1994?

Reason I ask is because I mind listening to Your Call when it was uncertain whether we'd be admitted to the SPL and some plank of an OF fan was complaining that we shouldn't be allowed in because "the road isn't good enough" and is "always shut" and "it's too far away" and so on ad nauseam :L

  3. I suspect one half of the OF would have been happy for it to go ahead, with Celtic missing their best player  :023:

I think Mantis and some others have hit the nail on the head.  Of course Rangers could not object to the postponement for the reasons given by Celtic.

I am cynical on the OF call off.  I am worried it is down to the worry that some small minded bigots would not mark the minutes applause as they should with him being an ex celtic player.

Not sure about this though...  I think if it had been a minutes silence then some could have spoiled it.  The Celtic fans would have drowned out any inappropriate noise from Rangers fans with the minutes applause.

  4. We've got something that a lot of teams can only wish for, team spirit!  I thought it was on the wane before we went on this roll but its back and seems to be stronger than ever.  Only special managers can instill it in their team and we've had it since the days of Pele.  Ours is a team that thrives in being the underdog and defeats along the way are made up for tenfold by victories like that one on Sunday.  I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love this club!!  I just feel sorry for people that support the Old Firm because they win all the time and for no other reason.  To be a true fan of football I think you need to experience the full range of emotions associated with it, and not just the highs.

I thank my dad for taking me to see Thistle in the late 80's, one year we went to every single game home and away. He was a Rangers fan when my folks moved north in the 70's before I came along but has since seen the error of his ways and is now a proud ICT season ticket holder.  I'll always have a home in Inverness, so no matter where I'm living and working ICT will be my local team, and I'm going to brainwash my kids if I ever have any to make up for that kid in Inverness being brainwashed to the dark-side by his dad.

  5. A penalty kick is awarded against a team which commits one of the ten offences for which a direct free kick is awarded, inside its own penalty area and while the ball is in play i.e. if the player commits any of the following six offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

    • [li]kicks or attempts to kick an opponent[/li]
[li]trips or attempts to trip an opponent[/li]
      [li]jumps at an opponent[/li]
      [li]charges an opponent[/li]
[li]strikes or attempts to strike an opponent[/li]
      [li]pushes an opponent[/li]

A penalty kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following four offences:

    • [li]tackles an opponent to gain possession of the ball, making contact with the opponent before touching the ball[/li]
      [li]holds an opponent[/li]
      [li]spits at an opponent[/li]
[li]handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)[/li]

Elvis was holding him therefore it was a penalty.

  6. I just went for a Mackie D's and had to drive past Celtic Park on the way.  Its in darkness, there's no one around, the big screen is off and it looks like a very very sad place.  Desolate in fact.  Its almost as if....  as if......

SOMEONE GOT IT RIGHT UP THEM!!!!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAAAAAAAAA  :blah01: :rotflmao:

  7. Every day is an away game for me.  However, every day I wake up and I thank god that I am a Highlander.

I am outnumbered by the the old firm followers down here.  That condescending, imperialistic tone hangs over them (and consequently me) like a fart...  a sh1t that won't flush.

I really really really want to get it right round them all on Monday morning.

    Regards,

    I'll be home for Christmas

  8. Aye and then cool off with an ice cold pint at the bargain price of ?5.... read on...

Booze: Reykjavik's nightlife is well documented but you'd be forgiven to think it is a bit of a ghost town early doors. Most revellers seem to avoid some of the high alcohol prices by drinking at home and not venturing out until 11pm! The prices of all products are expensive in Iceland due to the need to import most of them. Expect to pay nearly a fiver for a pint of beer, and spirits fare no better. Despite the high cost of going out, Reykjavik's nightlife seems to resemble a gathering of supermodels as beautiful people in stylish clothes knock back plenty of booze whatever the price! The bars stay open into the early hours, sometimes past 5am at the weekend, and in good weather many folk gather outside after closing time, and continue to party in the streets.

Those wanting a cheaper pint can sample Nelly's Cafe where beer currently costs 290 Krona (?2.60) where most ask nearer 500 Krona a pint. Just over the road is the Sport Kaffi where Icelandic TV's coverage of English Premiership games are shown live on Saturday afternoon (complete with Stoke City score updates!), and is also the place where many Stoke games are watched by Icelandic fans. A signed Stoke City football sits on the top of the bar. Other places worth a visit are Kaffi Thomsen, Gaukur ? St?ng (especially for live music), and Glaumbar (for music). The Reykjavik website has many more listings for bars and clubs.

  9. Folks, I fear we're in big trouble come next season.  If it wasn't for Gretna I'd be worried about this year, they're our get out of jail card.

Just been reading another couple of threads on Hart, Black, Caff, Rankin and Parky leaving.  One of the main reasons we've done as well as we have in the SPL in the last 3 years is because of the lack of changes to the squad.  I know we've had to change managers far too often but the squad never changed much up until this year.

Dods was never replaced even though we knew he was leaving for a very long time, Barry is getting on a bit now and now its reported that 2 excellent players who could take his place are maybe leaving!

There are far too many changes going on right now for the club to remain on an even keel.  Brewster is an inexperienced manager and I don't know if he can handle all this change and still keep us in the SPL next year.  I hope he can prove me wrong.

  10. I stuck up for Mikey today cos I thought one of his wayward kicks was caught by the wind cos it was high up but I was forced to retract my statement when he kept feckin booting the ball out of play!  I've not been up the road much this year but i'm told he does it all the time.  Need extra coaching son.

Didn't like the "you're sh1t" chant directed at him.  That sucked and was about us funny as those chaps trying to boot the ball through the naff thing into the goal at half time.  That was THE sh1ttest half time entertainment I've EVER seen.

ps.  Whoever got the V's directed at you, you feckin deserved it.  Dry your eyes and give us peace.

  11. I watched it in McHuills on the High Street in Glasgow.  Its a right Celtic shop so I wiped my feet on my way out.

Friendly patrons though, 2 mins in the door I was offered "a wee charge of this pal" as some shifty wee guy produced a half bottle of buckfast from his pocket.  I politely declined.

The overstretched doorman was blissfully unaware that the fire exit on the other side of the building had been opened and folk were bringing in their own carryouts and stashing them under the pool table  :015:
