This is our record after 23 games in our last seven seasons since we were last promoted.  That's how grim this season's record is!

    P W D L F A PTS
    2016-17 23 3 8 12 26 43 17
    2015-16 23 7 8 8 30 32 29
    2014-15 23 15 2 6 34 21 47
    2013-14 23 11 5 7 29 21 38
    2012-13 23 9 10 4 48 37 37
    2011-12 23 7 4 12 30 40 25
    2010-11 23 7 8 8 31 28 29

For the record, we have the same number of points (and a marginally better goal difference) than at this point in 2008-09, when we went down.

    Define freefall

  2. Barry Wilson and Willie Miller were both bang on with their post-match comments. Forget top six ... Richie is completely deluded with that. Flat, boring,  unimaginative. I hope the team sickness story is true because some players, especially Tansey, seemed anonymous, flat, lacking passion or invention. Patrick bossed us for long periods and were more deserving of a win. I normally religiously stay to the end but had to be away early today ... Coincidentally I had no particular wish to stay.  We are sleepwalking to relegation and sadly I don't think the board has a game-changer in their locker. Tuesday is big but certainly not decisive. Plenty more points to play for but at the moment I honestly don't know where a win is coming from because I've no confidence we'll beat any team on current form.

It would be interesting to try and play three at the back but would an unfamiliar formation be the way to go with such an important game?

    Fon Williams
    Mckay Warren Tremarco
    Doran Polworth Tansey Draper Cole
    Anier Doumbouya

Given we have been soundly beaten at home by the other Jags in the recent past by their high pressing approach against us, I fear that formation could go spectacularly wrong. Doran and Cole aren't defensively minded; their undeniable strengths lie elsewhere. We need 4 at the back. Are Meekings, Raven and Horner all out?

The more I watch our winning goal, the more clear it appears that Doumbouya didn't touch it, it was on OG nodded by the no. 3.  You can tell not just by following the flight of the ball in slow-mo but by noting how Doumbouya doesn't celebrate, whilst the defender holds his head in his hands.

The curious lack of celebration immediately afterwards had initially led some of us to wonder if the goal was going to stand.

Can't agree with previous post. Doumbaya may have scored, but guilty of missing 2 gilt edged chances prior to scoring. He was ineffective and any headers he wins, he has no control or no idea where ball is going. Boden held up ball well IMO and brought others into game, but he provided little in way of goal threat.

I have been calling for Boden to start and hoped he'd take his chance today. I agree his link up play at times was good but he never looked like scoring and I remember a truly awful lay-off out of play in 1st half. Doumbouya had far more chances and maybe should have scored more but the reality is, without him, we wouldn't have won today. To coin a cliche ... goals win games.

  6. Vigurs badly at fault for being dispossessed while doddling on edge of box just before free kick. From where I was standing, the Elgin goal looked like another really embarassing flap from OFW in missing weak free kick at near post (very like the lost goal to Hamilton a few weeks back). He can be a decent shot stopper in open play but seems so vulnerable at free kicks. We were fairly disjointed. Cole showed good skills at points and became the target for regular cross field long balls. Unlucky with chances missed (woodwork for Doumbouya header, Vigurs free kick). Elgin tired in the 2nd half (thankfully). We seemed scared of shooting on a number of occasions. Glad to see two upfront though and also pleased that Anier came on for Boden near the end (should have been earlier). He looked quite sharp. I think he should start with Doumbouya instead of Boden (who was disappointing today). Polworth playing at right back was caught out a few times today. Obviously not his position and the fans let him know but I was disappointed to hear swear back at the fans ... surely the cardinal sin for any player. Anyway we squeezed through and it's all about the result in the cup. Let's build on this.

I don't think that any of us are blinded and think we are too good to go down. We are all too well aware of that possibility and the serious implications thereof. However, one thing that we have been calling for is an experienced striker used to the league. In Anier, we now have that. He may who you were looking for personally but for goodness sake, give the man a chance before getting your knife out on him and the management and don't forget, there is still another fortnight until the transfer window closes during which there may be other incomings.

    Well said sir

I don't think he's a good enough player to single handedly transform our fortunes, but I do think that if he'd been with us since the summer we'd have a few more points than we currently have.

I doubt there's anyone out there on our budget that can single handedly save us ... we need a combination of more goals scored and less goals conceded ... I reckon he can play a reasonable part with one of these aspects ... but nobody can do it on their own.

  9. What on earth do people expect. Reality check folks. Let's be positive if there's reasonable grounds ... and I happen to think there is. Happy to get shot down at end of season if he shoots blanks but Anier has the potential to be a very decent signing. Appearances at Utd were shared with Mckay and Ofere. Utd may have gone down but had a decent squad on paper, other internal political issues didn't help. We have an exceedingly tight budget and not everyone wants to come to Inverness.
