  1. Well it is depressing enough being stripped of our best players after last season, but with Hughes having broadcast Ryan's availability, and Celtic cannily leaving it until the end of the transfer window, we will no doubt be taken for a ride yet again. We ought to be safeguarding our interests, especially by insisting on hefty sell-on fees, but I have no faith in our negotiating ability after this latest blunder.

John Hughes no doubt broadcasts availability in a bid to entice offers before a player ends up going for free because of our short contracts. The same thing happened with his media comments on Billy Mckay in the run-up to the January transfer window. The club seems to rely on periodic windfalls and if it's the only offer on the table ...

  2. Sounds like a disappointing end but I think we would have taken a 1-1 draw before the game.

We at least can blame our poor start on injuries to some extent.  We may not be happy but I think we are happier than this Kilmarnock fan.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3QtbD5jHK0  Priceless! - but don't click on the link if you are offended by the odd naughty word!

That fan's video went viral last weekend. This weekend's news is Josh Magennis getting criticised for calling the video "poison" and saying "he can't be a proper fan" .... Think he needs to remember who pays the footballers' wages.

  3. Whilst I am all for fiscal responsibility, and have espoused that opinion many times over the years as it relates to ICT, there are times when you do need to "speculate to accumulate". Every league placing is worth a significant sum (was 70K) so, although it is too late for this particular one, if a striker like Mackay could have been loaned in and paid say 2 grand a week then his goals (and I have no doubt he would haved scored some) could easily have taken us up 2 or 3 places and paid for his contract and more ! Yes, its a risk and he might not score any ... but we all know what the cost of relegation is

A friend who is a Dundee Utd fan was at Ross County today. He had not been keen on the McKay signing but has completely changed his tune. Despite not scoring he felt McKay was their " diamond in the rough" and wished they'd had him earlier. He thinks he'd have made the difference in narrow games where they've dropped points before today (eg Dundee derby). Gutting given he was one of our own, had become available and a position we are very sadly lacking in now.

  4. I'm not going to get involved in this kind of debate about the numerically bleeding obvious yet again because I seem to have spent much of the last 20 years explaining that half a pint isn't going to make a lot of difference when you're filling up a petrol tank.

Unfortunately for many it is anything but numerically bleeding obvious hence my post. Apols if any knickers knotted. Was just making a respectful reference to an earlier post of yours.

  5. If memory serves, Dundee posted loses of somewhere around £3 Million in their 2014 year end accounts...some people never learn!!

That's their accumulated losses since that Dundee FC corporate entity started. Not the losses for the 2014 year on its own. Big difference. Their abbreviated accounts and ours are publicly available free of charge on the betacompanieshouse website. TBH, looking at what I presume to be the main trading accounts for ICT (entity legally called "Inverness Thistle and Caledonian FC Limited"), our accumulated losses from that legal entity's beginning (1994) are at a similar level (over £3million). Intriguely, it also shows that for the year to 31 May 2014, ICT only made a very profit (£28k mentioned in a note to the accounts) even given the money from the 2014 League Cup run. The harsh reality I imagine is that we live hand-to-mouth from year to year and any windfall that comes our way (e.g. Billy Mckay) merely serves to make the day-to-day running a bit less of a stressful headache. Charles Bannerman has alluded to this kind of existence on a previous post somewhere in the past.

  6. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/scotland/33749636

"Highlights" . Sadly not one Inverness attack worthy of inclusion. My negativity on our strike-force is not just this game. There has been a dearth of goals (especially from strikers) in recent games. No goals against Astra (a tidy team to be fair) but before that one goal against championship St Mirren (Tansey), one goal against Nairn (Foran). Is it time for Calum Ferguson to get more game time? Think he'd be hungrier than Lopez.

  7. Ofere is still without a club. Yogi hasn't mentioned his name amongst our significant departures. Sometimes he looked like he was running through treacle but his goals per game ratio was pretty darn good ... Including big games ... Wondering if we should do what today's opponents have done with Scott McDonald ....reconsider Ofere?

Watching back some of last season's highlights/goals, the case for giving it a try seems to be getting more compelling.

Ofere Was offered a deal which he rejected. Rumour has it his demands were way out of our league. So unfortunately isn't going to happen. Must be more like him out there tho?

Yes I know he was offered a deal and I know that he rejected it. I predicted on this forum long before the cup final that his agent would come in with big wage demands. But presumably, when he came to us, he was affordable.

We were his best option back then. He maybe just got ideas above his station on the back of his successful short period with us.

He is in a similar position again. At the moment he's not earning at all presumably. No better reality check IMHO.

  9. Completely toothless up front. Lopez is slow and useless ... is that the best striker we can sign .... REALLY??

After initial nerves when he came home, Mutombo looked quite tidy in a Marley-esque wide role.

Fon Williams is looking increasingly impressive with notable key saves on top of the penalty save ... might have easily been 3 or 4 without him.

Too much slow passing back and fro without urgency or craft.

A long tough season awaits if this is the benchmark.

  10. No LB and no strikers are probs we knew we would have since Jan and no solutions found. This could be a disappointing season ahead.

This makes tonight's result all the more frustrating. We have a small support but how can Scotland's 3rd team last year be so bereft of goal poaching talent when we knew we needed cover/replacement for months. Ofere was never likely to stay. He was bound to be used to better wages elsewhere and view us as a stop-gap. And yet we are again chasing our tail with no adequate striking contingency. On the back of a wonderful, heroic season, we are ironically weaker in forward areas than we've been for many years.

  11. Good finish by Foran. Should have had another but for a good double save. Apart from that, we were completely toothless upfront ... even, with respect, against Nairn County. Lopez came on but did very little of genuine note. Don't think he'd have scored against Nairn if he'd played for another couple of hours. I just cannot fathom at all how he was signed up before JJ Hooper. Liked the look of the Belgian trialist though (in a Marley Watkins type way maybe rather than the poacher we need). Light-footed and quick but not terribly willing to have a shot on goal. Foran should start upfront against Astra.

  12. Can anyone give me an update on the new strip situation ...i.e. is it happening or not and, if so, when ... I've got a wee man getting very, very close to his 9th birthday who would like to know for some reason or other ;)

Liking them both a lot!! Especially the home one ... Just a shame that they aren't ready sooner ... Too late for my son's birthday.

Smart move to make them available through JD outlet ... better access without the high street overhead ... just hope they are also still available in the club shop going forward.

  13. Slightly surprised we went with Lopez and not JJ Hooper in view of Hooper's goal strike rate and Lopez lack thereof ... hopefully he'll prove me wrong starting tomorrow night.

  14. I cannot find a way to d/l this, only watch it on-line ...

I did it by keeping my finger pressed down on my tablet around the play button until "save" came up as an option.

Press play to watch and while it is playing press the screen again but this time hold down. "Save video" message will pop up

  16. Even putting my complete skinflint hat on ... A striker with a decent, proven goalscoring pedigree is an absolute must/ bare minimum ... ideally before Astra game. Between McKay leaving and Ofere arriving we looked seriously lacking in ruthless penalty box finishing even against much lesser opposition ... and we had Marley back then.

  17. All he has known is Inverness. Long before the end of the season he was in the press making strong inferences that he might fancy a change of scene outside of his hometown. He probably felt this was his time and good to go out on a high. Doubt that any realistically good ICT offer would have kept him. Thanks for the memories Nick. It is essential now we recruit. I know we are a small club but it really is quite depressing seeing "bigger" clubs with less to play for making good signings ... Meanwhile the cup winners with a 2nd round Euro spot (which only Celtic can better) sees 3/4 big players leave and the only replacement to date is an underwhelming signing from a club that struggled in the division below for a position we already have fairly well covered. Trying to trust the gaffer but trust (as far as signings go) is waning rapidly.

  18. TO NAELIFTS !!

Was in school with the young fella on the far right behind IHE.

CiF...? If those are initials, then I'm going to guess Lovat Road...

Right on the money, alternative maryhill ... Or is that AY from 'round the block ? ;)

It is... It's been a while - hope you're well   I think Simon and I bumped into you at the 4-3 Livvy game back in 98, iirc.

Well remembered. Yes I'm good ... Difficult not to be after last weekend eh?! Good times. In Moray now but get through to the home games with my 8 year old son who has become hardcore ICT over the last 2/3 years. I'm a bit of a newbie to this forum so pretty cool to put a "well kent face" to an alias. Take care bud and we'll maybe bump into each other again soon :)
