  1. I like that lineup.
  2. On another day after another poor result every other comment includes the line 'we need to take more shots' As illustrated yesterday, this tactic serves only to enhance the keepers reputation, along with giving up possession. It's a fine balance between keeping the ball for possessions sake or shooting on sight. It's the tempo of the play which dictates the good shooting chances, moving it quickly, creating space for a pass or a shot. When we're faced with packed defences we need to play the guys who can operate at speed, move& think fast. This is the case in nearly every game now and will be for the rest of the season, we should be getting to grips with this by now.
  3. There it is. A good start to the season and the mindset that we are better than we are sets in. After the first round of games every team does their homework on us while we just expect the results to arrive... This team and the players have to earn the right to be a championship team and some of the players have a fair bit more to do to prove their worth, because on a weekly basis the consistency just isn't there. Stenhousemuir beat a championship side today, and 3 out of the 4 goals were set plays. Basic but effective.

Alfie Stewart is back until end of season.
  5. To be fair, Bavidge did have one shot, in the 93rd minute. Didn't test the keeper.
  6. 3 shots, 3 on target. That's efficient, we however, were totally wasteful.
  7. What has happened to Queen of the South? Offered very little, even when our wayward passes were intercepted they barely threatened. We've played better for a one nil, so I'll happily take the 4 goals & clean sheet.
  8. Denmark were the better team (with 10 and 11 on the park) but if you can't beat Belarus at home, well then you can't expect to top the group😄
  9. For the celtic & rangers B teams it's great preparation for European humpings.
  10. It's league 1 ffs. The only 'achievement ' that matters is getting the f**k out of it ASAP. Clean sheets against teams with next to no threat means bugger-all , especially if we are struggling to get the ball in their net. The fact that we concede freely to teams that aren't lining up with a back 10 is of slight concern, when the Championship is far less forgiving.
  11. Nothing against the call up rule, but if you're a part time side then perhaps it's best not to build your team around a bunch of u19 international loan players. By all means take them on loan but not at the detriment of of having a full playing squad capable of cover. I mean what if one or three were injured or called back to their parent team?? Playing the system.
  12. So, taking away the 8 games with clean sheets that leaves 5 games in which we've conceded 8... Not so much of an achievement, unless giving goals away is the aim.
  13. I'm not sure hammering the ball repeatedly at the keeper counts as good saves. Once or twice we worked him maybe, but apart from that just poor finishing. We seem to lose cohesion after the substitutions, play becomes very scrappy and we end up on the wrong side of possession, desperately chasing the ball. Still plenty of things to work on in training.
  14. Butcher...I remember him. Think you'll find it a bit different now.
  15. And do it with a bit more urgency. When we play at such a pedestrian pace we make it quite easy for the opposition
  16. That's two defeats against the teams now sitting above us. One team sat in and picked our pockets, the other got the better of us, capitalising on our errors and taking their chances. Hard lessons to be learned. We really need to stay sharp for every game.
  17. Can't argue with any of the above, Wotherspoon is ( and of course should ) look a class above in this league. I'd also point out that in many games where we aren't really tested, old Joe Chalmers is rolling back the years, quietly linking the play where he has the time to do so comfortably. I'm concerned that without a sustained run of harder games we could be sleepwalking into complacency at this level. Its been said we have a 'championship ' level squad, perhaps true for some - so I look forward to the knockout stage of the challenge cup against the higher level teams to find out where we really measure up.
  18. Good result and performance all round... ...but it did have the feel of a training ground bounce game. The worst of the 'B' teams I've seen yet. That's got to be a confidence knock for some of those kids.
  19. Do Weldex not do advertising anymore...?
  20. Strong lineup. Natural width. More game time for Alonge with Billy taking a break. Guessing MacLeod suffering from the EK game. New boy starting at RB I'm assuming, good vote of confidence for Strachan who has been solid on the left but has some competition in that area. Average age has dropped with Mckay benched. Young team but fairly experienced now.
  21. So, pointless midweek games, fringe players vs B teams, high probability of poor crowds - and running floodlights. That'll pay for itself! 🤔

Tremendous to see the squad shaping up nicely at such an early stage - almost unheard of in these parts. A full squad pre-season might see us getting a couple of good results in the Cup games.

That's more like a small tent signing.
  24. ...until this season.

On the downside, they are in a very strong position to attract championship quality players...who hasn't accepted our contract offers yet?
