Ross County -V- Inverness CT - Report

El Floppo

Not quite El Kessocko, more like El Floppo as both sides bludgeoned out a pretty drab no scoring draw.  One man did his best to keep the score level and that was the clown that officiated this encounter.  A painted face and a pair of oversize shoes were all that was missing from referee Steve McLean as he went about his routine, culminating in the moment he brought the house down with his antics.  Not giving a penalty was hilarious.  But he topped that by booking the spreadeagled Graham Shinnie to the delight of the watching throng.  Graham now misses the next derby in a fortnight at Inverness.

As expected, Richie Foran made the starting eleven with Nick Ross dropping to the bench and Gary Warren returned at centre back, partnered by Josh Meekings with Devine dropping out.  For County, Michael Fraser was a late replacement for Mark Brown in goals.

A packed Global Energy Stadium and a perfect day for football saw the game kick off with the fans in fine fettle and singing voices well lubricated in the pre-match boozers, the Mallard being well full before the Steve McLean show started.

To be honest, I don't have a lot to tell you about.  We seemed to play the better quality football, but once more the cutting edge was blunt, County quite content to hit on the counter, a style which suits them down to a tee.

Villain of the piece Ian Vigurs was first to threaten, taking on Raven but Gary Warren intervened as he tried to shoot. Josh Meekings charged down a Paul Lawson shot with County claiming for hand ball, nothing doing.

Billy McKay was inches away from connecting with a Richie Foran cross as Inverness looked the more likely to make the breakthrough, but defences were on top.

David Raven came to the rescue as he headed a thumping netbound shot from Oikonomou away to safety and Inverness responded when Ross Draper saw his effort cleared off the line.

Enter the clown as he rightly booked Ian Vigurs for unceremoniously upending Raven, then he also booked Raven for being fouled; what the!    This sparked a bit of posturing on the touchline, get back in yer box Derek, as Terry and Derek exchanged niceties, 1-0 to Terry.

Half Time 0-0

The second forty five was similar to the first, once more few clear chances. Andy Shinnie tried his best with a mazy run at the County defence but his lack of pace saw him run out of legs as Munro mopped up the attack and at the other end Kovacevic nearly did a 'Gasgoine' as he flicked the ball up and over Shinnie, but his shot just missed Esson's right hand post.  Good effort by the full back though.  His next effort was wide of the mark as County began to assert themselves more but the Inverness defence held firm and the game had nil nil written all over it long before the end.

Hilarity erupted when Oikonomou felled Graham Shinnie as he burst into the box with the punch line following thereafter; a booking for the prostrate Shinnie, my sides were sore laughing .........NOT!

Tudur-Jones thought he was Messi as he skirted round the County defence.  It turned out he was messy as his attempted curler went high and wide, as did Brittain's effort late in the game.

Full Time 0-0

So, much ado about nothing really.  The game itself was a bit disappointing although at 0-0 it had enough to keep you interested.  That's five blank sheets County have had in a row during their now 10 match unbeaten run. Steve McLean saw to it that they kept their run going but in all honesty both sides could have played for a week and not scored.  Let's hope the game in Inverness has some added value to it.
tm4tj MotM:- Another tough call on this, but it has to go to either Garry Warren or Josh Meekings who were rock solid at the back.  Andy Shinnie showed again he is peerless in terms of quality, just an extra half a yard would see him and us benefit. So, on his return to action it has to be oooooh, Gary Warren.

All to do again on the 16th, and the Highlands are still ours until then, and County remain in our shadow, just.  You can hear the seethe already.

Teaser Paragraph:
El Kessocko

Forget Real Madrid and Barcelona, Ronaldo or Messi, it's down to the nitty gritty now as Inverness travel to Dingwall for the re-arranged game at the Global Energy Stadium, delayed since New Year when we were supposed to first foot the gudgies. It's been affectionately christened El Kessocko, the Highland Derby, where Shinniesta will take on Sproule in the battle for Highland Domination.

At that time, we were on a roll and County were struggling somewhat.  We had just had our first blank score sheet of the season and we were second top of the SPL with 34 points.  Look further down the table, in fact, go right down to eleventh place and there you can see Ross County, languishing in second bottom spot with only Dundee below them and an astonishing 13 points behind Inverness.  But hold on.  take a glance at the table now and you can see that Inverness have stuttered their way into third place and lo and behold, right behind us are County, with only one point separating the sides.  The Staggies have been on a remarkable run of late winning seven of their last nine games and drawing the other two.  The last club to beat them were Celtic ten games ago but they have garnered 23 points out of a possible 27 to spectacularly sprint up the league, and God forbid, should they win on Saturday they will climb above us.  Surely not I hear you gasp, but they are the team with all the impetus and we have stagnated since the turn of the year, earning only eight points in 2013 from a possible twenty one.

Two, well three games so far this season have seen Inverness own the Highlands and in the cup replay at Dingwall, the home dugout was awash with seethe as Derek Adams blew his top after watching his side lose a last second goal to Inverness.  The game went to a replay and we went on to the next round of the cup, County were left to wonder at what could have been.  Alas our cup run ended in the next round at Kilmarnock, but it was worth it to see Derek's face and gesticulations at the end of the game.  Seething!

The first league game ended in favour of Inverness, but not until late in the game when Aaron Doran scored a spectacular clincher to settle the game, 3-1 for Inverness and the Highlands were ours.

***Latest Team News***

Inverness welcome back Gary Warren after his suspension, boosted by the news that he has signed a new contract to keep him at The Caledonian Stadium for a further two years.  Butcher will have to decide which of the other cantral defenders should step down, tough choice as both did well in midweek.  Foran will hopefully show no ill effects which would demote Nick Ross to the bench and Hogg and King, well, they are still missing.

Ross County have no fresh worries and new scoring sensation Ivan Sproule will be ready for action after being subbed in midweek, just in case.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/1dnyHB9QR_c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

tm4tj Prediction:-  We seem to be running scared on CTO this week at the prospect of facing the all conquering Ross County.     Gary Warren returning is a big plus for us and Richie Foran getting the last ten minutes in midweek was an added bonus.  County have been in inspired form recently and the acquisition of Sproule has been at the heart of this with five goals since he arrived in January.  But we have coped with him before when he played for Hibs, and I have no doubt we will manage once more.  This is a tough game though, played on County's tight pitch and it is imperative that we roll our sleeves up and get stuck in.  This could be a battle, and with Richie Foran in line for a return, then he is the very man to lead the charge.  Still, this could be the toughest game yet and maybe a share of the points is on the cards.  1-1 is my best guess.

Now then, the PC brigade are on the warpath, we all have to mind or P's & Q,s..........don't be the one that ends up in the cells for the sake of a bit of banter.  You're no Gypsies any more......................

Inverness CT -V- Dundee Utd - Report

Zero

No goals at the Caledonian Stadium as Inverness and United cancelled each other out on a brisk February night.  Andy Shinnie had the best opportunity to break the deadlock in the second half but he headed straight at the keeper when either side of him would have seen a goal, but it was not to be as Inverness dropped to third with Motherwell beating Celtic to jump into second spot.  It's oh so tight as the league reaches the tickly spot.
Couldn't manage another four goals tonight and the commentators curse struck as we had to settle for a no scoring draw in the end.
Richie Foran recovered sufficiently to make the bench and Josh Meekings replaced the suspended Gary Warren, partnering Daniel Devine at the rear.  Ryan Esson continued in goal with Reguero as standby.
United set out their stall with an attack minded side, probably just as well for them as their defending has been suspect at times.  Michael Gardyne getting a start with Stuart Armstrong on the bench.
Inverness started brightest and pegged United back in the early stages looking for the breakthrough.  For all his height, Owain Tudur-Jones should be an ideal target at set pieces, alas, heading is not his strong point and he wasted a good opportunity meekly heading a Doran corner wide of the keepers left hand post.

United responded and Jon Daly did likewise at the other end as headers seemed to be the preferred method of attack, Billy McKay nodding one direct at Cierzniak from a great position as the play opened out.

Neither side were able to get a foothold in the match as the play went from end to end and defences were mainly on top, but contract boy Andy Shinnie came closest, forcing Cierzniak into a diving save just before half time as he wheeled on the edge of the box and fired a shot low towards the goal, but the keeper was equal to it.
Half Time 1-1
The second period continued in the same theme and I've seen worse nil nil games.  Aaron Doran was teasing and probing at one end and Gary Mackay-Stevens was doing the same at the other end, but poor final balls and good defending thwarted most moves.
Around the hour mark, the cumbersome Jon Daly passed up the Arabs best chance so far, heading over from six yards.  He should have made the keeper work..
United were becoming more prominent and they seemed to gain the upper hand possession wise, but clear chances were at a premium as the play went from end to end.  Esson saved a shot from substitute Armstrong to keep the score blank and the United goalie did likewise from the classy Andy Shinnie, who was at full stretch to turn a ball goalwards. Armstrong blazed a loose ball high over the bar at the other end when he should have done better with the defence struggling to cover him.
It was Shinnie that should have broken the deadlock after some neat play when he strode onto an outswinging cross from Doran, but his diving header was straight down the keepers throat and the chance was wasted.
With twelve minutes remaining, Ryan Esson earned his corn when he grappled with a deflected Rankin shot from close range and eventually pounced on the ball before it squirmed over the line.  Close call!
The long awaited return of Richie Foran was a welcome sight with ten minutes left on the clock and he looked eager to get involved, and he livened the last few minutes up, but it was United who pressed at the death for the goal which would steal the points, but it never came.
Full Time 0-0
A draw was just about right although Inverness did create the better openings, but some woeful shooting and heading kept the score blank.  The only winners from this game were Motherwell who jumped above Inverness into second place after beating Celtic 2-1.
So, it's onward to Dingwall for what has now become a very meaningful game given County's recent surge of form and Inverness' apparent reluctance to kill off games.  Interesting weekend ahead.
tm4tj MotM:- goes to the quality player that is Andy Shinnie.  Not able to get on the scoresheet last night, but his close control was a joy to behold.  Danny Devine was solid at the back as was Josh Meekings and Nick Ross had one of his best games as well, so onwards to Dingwall and it's all to play for.

Inverness CT -V- Dundee United - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Warren Peace

Saturday's epic hero, Gary Warren, will miss this clash with the Arabs having collected too many bookings over the season.  It's the first game the big man will have missed since joining in the summer and he has endeared himself to the Caley Jags fans with some sterling defending and his ability to notch goals at the other end of the park. He will make his peace with the officials as he sits this one out.

Jackie McNamara brings his new side up to the Highlands on Wednesday night for a 19:45 kick off at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium where Inverness will host Dundee United. This will be his sixth game in charge since taking over the reigns from Peter Houston.

We have some record to uphold for this season against Dundee teams. Four games played and we have scored four goals in each game, the last one against United was that incredible 4-4 draw at Tannadice after being three down in eight minutes.

I can't guarantee a similar scoreline, but United are normally one of the more entertaining sides to visit Inverness and with the likes of Johnny Russell and Gary Mackay-Stevens in their ranks then they have two of the hottest properties in the SPL.

Inverness have gained twelve points since that game in December and United have taken thirteen points, having played one more game than their hosts. Our goal scoring exploits at home have seen us net 27 SPL goals, United have scored 18 away from Tannadice.  Our defence has steadied from a poor start to the season, but we have conceded 21 times at home, conversely, United have lost 24 on the road. Inverness have won five times at home, but United have six victories away from home.  To be honest, there's not much to chose between the sides in terms of stats and that is the reason only four points separate the sides.

A handful of wins on the trot will propel any of the teams bar Dundee into contention for best of the rest, and Ross County are a prime example of that after a great succession of results for them in recent weeks. 20 points over the same period that we have taken 12. Only Celtic have a better record, and that is the reason the league is so congested.  And County's run just got even better, joining Inverness on 41 points after beating a pathetic Aberdeen 1-0 at Pittodrie tonight    (Tuesday)  Who would have thought it, Inverness and County in second and third spot in the SPL. Great stuff!

Inverness are asking season ticket holders to bring along a friend for a mere £5, good value if you are doing nothing else on a midweek evening.  It's a bit like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, so come along and cheer on your local side.

***Latest Team News***

Richie Foran is still out with his knee injury but Josh Meekings returns, and with Gary Warren suspended, Josh is set to partner Daniel Devine in central defence. Chris Hogg and Simon King are out as per norm.

Gavin Gunning is recovering following his knee operation.  Swedish defender Marcus Tornstrand has been signed but the 23-year-old will not feature as he is not yet match fit.

Danny Devine will be a key player against United and he talks to Auldy Boy ahead of the midweek fixture.

tm4tj Prediction:- Plenty of goals so far in these encounters this season, but the law of averages says it must slow down.  With McKay on a lean streak and Inverness being a bit cagey of late, I don't expect a goalfest this time round, but we have last weekends hero Gary Warren missing and that could prove crucial to the outcome, at both ends of the park.  United will be hurting after letting the lead slip in the last game against us, not to mention the 4-0 thrashing we gave them in the first match.  For that reason alone, we may have to settle for a share of the spoils, but a cheeky wee win would not go amiss.  2-1 for us with McKay and Shinnie back amongst the goals.

Hearts -V- Inverness CT - Report

Heads up, we're second

Inverness thrust themselves back into second place in the SPL with a gutsy performance at Tynecastle to gain a modicum of revenge for the League Cup defeat at the hands of Hearts.  We were always on top in a sometimes towsy encounter that developed into a nail biter before the end.  Gary Warren opened the scoring in the first half with a header from Aaron Doran's free kick but Jason Holt belted a drive home 10 minutes after the break.  Billy McKay nodded in his first for a while and Andy Webster wrong footed Ryan Esson with a massive deflection to restore parity.  However, Gary Warren wrapped up the points when he powered a header beyond MacDonald with around fifteen minutes left to end the scoring and end Inverness' recent run of poor results.
Inverness had to re-shuffle the pack slightly with Josh Meekings picking up a late injury and Daniel Devine stepping in at the last minute.  Ryan Esson continued in goal and as expected Richie Foran sat this one out with Nick Ross filling his boots.  Hearts had the human windmill, Mr Ngoo up front looking to cause havoc once more with his flailing limbs and John Sutton starting on the bench.  John McGlynn kept faith with the youngsters who will be the future of Hearts with the big money earners elsewhere.
It didn't take Ngoo long to make his mark on the game, less than thirty seconds gone when he physically and aggressively shoved Gary Warren to the deck after a brief encounter, this earned the windmill a yellow card which could easily have been red. Naughty boy, and a lucky boy!  This did not deter him though and he managed to see out the match whilst continually interfering with his opposing numbers, but Gary Warren had the last laugh and his match winning performance was right out of the top drawer.
Capital Caley will have a full report for us once he recovers.............
Warren at the Double
There was a sense of relief at full time that Caley Thistle had finally got back to winning ways.  The small band of ICT fans witnessed an entertaining game, particularly in the second half.  As usual for a Hearts away game, many of the away day regulars met at Diggers.  Two of the Highland Marchers walked from Linlithgow.  Somehow one of them (I won't say who) misread the map and added another 5 miles more to the journey than planned.  The welcome sight of many ICT regulars was our reward for the 23 mile yomp.  A few of us then headed down to the Gorgie Suite (later renamed the Gary Warren Suite) to meet ICT fans from the Official Travel Club.  Most fans were fairly confident going into the game despite the recent poor results.
The last time Inverness had won at Tynecastle was in 2007.  ICT won 3-2 that day with goals from Russell Duncan, John Rankin and a last minute Graeme Bayne penalty.  Fast forward 6 years and the same score line saw Caley Thistle beat Hearts in style to take second place from Motherwell who were beaten in Dingwall by FC Global Energy.
Hearts should have been down to ten men after only 22 seconds.  The SPL’s highest scoring defender Gary Warren got into a tussle with Liverpool loanee Michael Ngoo.  Ngoo lashed out at Warren shoving him with both hands straight to the deck.  Referee Bobby Madden saw the incident but decided to issue only a yellow card.    Bizarre.  Two minutes later Ngoo brought down Warren again with a clumsy challenge.  This was to set a precedent for the rest of the match.  Somehow, Ngoo lasted the whole 90 minutes, but Warren had him in his back pocket the whole match.
Hearts had a chance to open the scoring after 5 minutes, but Andy Websters half volley sailed well over the bar.  It was end to end football in the first 15 minutes with both teams looking like they could score.  However, it was the Caley Jags that opened the scoring a quarter of an hour in.  Aaron Doran curled in a cross that saw the inrushing Gary WARREN outjump the Hearts defence and power the ball past Jamie MacDonald and into the back of the net.  Two minutes later, Caley Thistle nearly doubled their lead.  Owain Tudur-Jones stepped up to take a free kick from around 30 yards out and with a chorus of ‘SHOOOOOT’ from the ICT fans, his powerful shot went just wide of the post with MacDonald beaten.
After 25 minutes, Danny Devine (in for the injured Josh Meekings) went into the referees book for a challenge on Ngoo.  It was an absolute pathetic decision by Madden and highlighted yet again more inconsistencies from him.  After 34 minutes, Andrew Shinnie found Billy McKay who beat his man and slotted the ball into the back of the net.  However, the linesman called it offside.  If it was offside it must have been very close.  After 38 minutes Andrew Shinnie gave away a free kick much to the fury of the ICT players and support.  Owain Tudur-Jones received a yellow card for arguing.  At half time, Caley Thistle deserved their lead and we were all hopeful of adding to the score line in the second half.
Half Time 0-1
Four minutes into the second half Graeme Shinnie received a caution and into Bobby Maddens book.  Nine minutes after the re-start Darren Barr's cross found Jason HOLT who powered the ball into the top right corner of the net to level the scores.  Inverness responded brilliantly and only 6 minutes later regained their lead.  Ross Draper's cross found Billy McKAY who headed the ball from close range into the Hearts net.  Inverness were deservedly back in front.  With only 16 minutes left however, Hearts equalised again.  Nick Ross cleared the ball off the line with a header but in the bedlam in the box the ball fell to Andy WEBSTER.  His shot took a wicked and unfortunate deflection off Danny Devine leaving Ryan Esson with no chance.
Hearts nearly took the lead only minutes later.  Jamie Walker's powerful shot was brilliantly saved by Esson to deny Hearts.  On the 76th minute, Caley Thistle deservedly regained the lead.  Graeme Shinnie's corner found Gary WARREN who beat his man to bullet the ball into the corner of the net with his head.  His second of the game and sixth goal of the season.  Hopefully there is more to come before the season is out.  Minutes later Shane Sutherland came on for Billy McKay.  In the last minute Charlie Taylor replaced the impressive Aaron Doran.  With the clock ticking down, Shane Sutherland should have secured the win for ICT.  As he broke free of his man and ended up one on one with MacDonald, he appeared to slow down and under a challenge from the defender he sliced the ball high and wide over the bar and out for a goal kick.  Fantastic defensive clearance by Shane.
Full Time 2-3
Luckily that was to be one of the last kicks of the ball as Inverness held out deserved 3-2 winners.  It was great to see Terry's famous celebrations again.  It feels like it has been too long.  Some of the Caley Away supporters made their way back to the Gary Warren Suite for some refreshments.  We tried our best not to gloat too much.  Back to winning ways.  Back to second.  Lets stay there.
CapitalCaleys Man of the Match:-  It simply HAS to be Gary Warren.  Two great goals and another solid performance from him marshalling the defence.  Aaron Doran and Nicky Ross are worth a mention as well for causing Hearts so many problems.

Teaser Paragraph:
It's a Marathon, not a sprint!

We seem to have run out of breath in our race for second place as the vultures gather to swallow us up and spit us out further down the pecking order.  Our fall from grace has been as rapid as our rise to the top and at the moment there seems to be no end to it.

Motherwell deservedly leapfrogged us to go clear in second as we just managed to hang on to third spot by our fingertips, but with our confidence shot it looks like being a long few weeks until the split before we will know our fate.  It would be a shame to throw away all the early season endeavour, but since we last played Hearts in the league cup semi-final, our season has disintegrated before our very own eyes and the 'punching above our weight' doubters are having a field day with certain players being singled out for more criticism than the government.

It's no coincidence that our run of misfortune has heightened since captain Richie Foran has been sidelined, his fiery brand of Gaelic football absent since the cup game at Kilmarnock, but the enigma of our number one choice is a mysterious one.  Who should play in goal was even polled on CTO and Reguero came out on top with two and a half times more votes than Esson.  However, we don't pick the team and Ryan has been in goals for the five games since the two sides met at Easter Road, which has yielded one SPL point and seen us dumped out of the other national competition. What has Antonio Reguero done to deserve being dropped?  He never saved a penalty in the shoot-out, but neither did MacDonald the Hearts keeper.  Don't get me wrong, I believe both our goalies are of an equal standing, but results seem to indicate otherwise, and maybe a return to first team action will be the spark that ignites our smouldering SPL embers. Maybe the defenders feel a greater urgency to protect our Spanish import, but whatever it is I hope Butcher gets the choice right in time to halt our decline.

Capital Caley has been busy preparing this weeks words for your pleasure, in between warming up for the Highland March.....................

On the Road Again

Caley Thistle head on the road to the Lowlands once again.  With no wins in 6 games, the ICT faithful will be desperate for a win on Saturday.  The bad run of results started with a defeat to Hearts in the League Cup Semi Final.  Mr Magoos team beat Inverness on penalties to end our League Cup ambitions for another season.  This Saturday is a chance for the ICT players to redeem themselves.  After a heavy 3-0 defeat to Motherwell last Saturday, Caley Thistle are in desperate need of points to keep their top six hopes on track.  Hearts have been poor and inconsistent all season and also suffered a 3-0 defeat last Saturday at the hands of Kilmarnock.  Diggers is usually the venue of choice for many Caley Thistle fans before a Hearts game.  Again, a couple of the Highland Marchers will be incorporating a bit of walking before the game.  This week, an 18 mile walk from Linlithgow. Hopefully three points will be the reward.

The last time Caley Thistle went to Tynecastle back in August it was a 2-2 draw.  Richie Foran was sent off in the first half for ICT and Hearts led 2-0 at half time.  Andrew Shinnie scored with a penalty to get one back for Inverness before late sub substitute Conor Pepper equalised with the last kick of the ball.

It was a great finale to the game that will live long in the memory of fans in attendance that day.  However, the disappointment of the League Cup Semi Final defeat to Hearts is still fresh in the mind.

A win is needed on Saturday as the ghost of the League Cup Semi defeat is still lingering about.  It seems that ever since the defeat, confidence has dropped and victory on Saturday can help rid the team of the Semi Final ghost.  In previous weeks although results have been disappointing, there have been chances and decisions that if it went our way could have changed the outcome.  Caley Thistle were pretty dominant in the first half hour against Motherwell last Saturday.  They were playing great passing football and got the ball into the back of the net only for it be ruled out for offside.  Motherwell soon scored and from there ICT seemed to struggle.  What Inverness need is a bit of luck.  The players are good enough but it just isn’t going their way at the moment.  If ICT are going to get back to winning ways, a victory against the team that started the bad run would be fitting.  It would give the lads a confidence boost ahead of next weeks Highland Derby.  It would indeed exorcise the ghost of the League Cup.

Richie Foran is still likely to be injured for Caley Thistle but reports suggest that he should be back to fitness within a week.  Terry Butcher should be able to pick the same team that started against Motherwell, although he may opt to freshen things up.  The debate over Esson and Reguero still rages on with Caley Thistle fans and it will be interesting to see if Esson starts again against Hearts.  My prediction is he will start, but there has been certainly a few interesting changes to the team throughout the season.  Hearts have had many changes throughout the season and surprisingly into February they have the same manager as they did at the start of the season.  Surely a record for Hearts under owner Vladamir Romanov.  Hearts are in turmoil off the field.  Romanov is desperate to sell the debt ridden club and there are growing concerns down Gorgie way about the clubs future.  Interestingly enough, and breaking with SPL tradition, Hearts players aren’t interested in Nandos.  They are more inclined to eat out at Krispy Kreme.  Could all these doughnuts be the reason for such a poor season?  Luckily there is no Krispy Kreme or Nandos in Inverness which should help the players get out of the current slump in form.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2WQEER1hguA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

CapitalCaleys prediction:-  This Saturday is an ideal opportunity to get back to winning ways.  Hearts are in disarray.  They are there for the taking.  But they still have a lot of quality in their team.  The Caley Thistle players will be desperate to make amends for the Cup defeat to Hearts. Inverness have the quality to edge this game.  I’ll go for a 2-1 victory for the Caley Jags. This is the players chance to get rid of the ghost of the Semi Final.  They have shown this season that they not only have the skill but the grit and determination to get results.  Lets put Hearts to the sword.  Lets put that ghost of the Cup to the sword!

Midweek results were favourable for us with Dundee United beating Motherwell and St Johnstone dropping a point to Celtic.  There will be plenty of twists and turns to come yet as outwith the Champions from Glasgow and relegation certs Dundee, every other team is capable of taking points off of each other, and anything gained from Celtic is a bonus, with points dropped to Dundee a mini disaster.  Yes, it's very tight and it looks like going down to the wire.

***Latest Team News***

Inverness are likely to be unchanged injury wise, with Foran out for at least another week, but the question of goalkeeper remains. Esson or Reguero

Hearts have lost the services of Andy Driver who is off to America.  Marius Zaliukas, Jamie Hamill and Callum Patterson are not available, but Ryan Stevenson will return from suspension.  Darren Barr could feature despite being stretchered off with a head injury in last week's defeat to Kilmarnock.

Off to Fir Park on Saturday for a crunch game at the sharp end of the table as Inverness take on Motherwell, a team that has put nine goals past us this season already.

The groans were audible on Wednesday night as Kilmarnock stole a point in the final minute of a game dominated by Inverness, but a game where we were unable to turn our dominance into goals and three points.  Terry was not best pleased after the game when once more we failed to hold onto a lead and lost a goal late in the game.  Billy McKay seems to be suffering since that miss in the league cup semi-final and the goals have dried up.

It's not been a great month for Inverness since the turn of the year, apart from a spanking win over the Dons. Only four points from our last four games have seen the hunting pack close in ready to pounce. Should we lose out to Motherwell, then they will take over in second place with St Johnstone leading the rest. Motherwell have also only one win in four.

Like us, Motherwell missed a raft of chances against Kilmarnock and McCall, like Butcher was bemused by the lack of strike rate which cost them the game.

Motherwell are being linked with James McFadden again as the former Well maestro is training at Fir Park. Unfortunately, money seems to be a major problem.  At 29, McFadden still has plenty to offer the game in Scotland, an international legend for that superb goal against France and his close control is a joy to behold.  Watch this space.

***Latest Team News***

Inverness will be without Richie Foran once more, and he has been sorely missed as we toil away without an aerial outlet up front. Simon King and Chris Hogg are still out. Ryan Esson looks set to remain in goal.

Motherwell have Keith Lasley   and Fraser Kerr   suspended after the pair were sent packing last weekend against Kilmarnock.  Steven Saunders played a full 90 minutes in midweek for the u20's as he continues his rehab after injury.

tm4tj Prediction:- We have struggled to get the goals our outfield play has warranted and somebody will get a doing one day.  Why not Motherwell, we are due to give them the runaround after the thrashings we got in the first two games where Well scored at will as they tore us apart.  However, we are still playing neat football although it is tougher without Richie Foran.  Maybe it's time for Shane Sutherland to step forward and stake a claim for a starting spot. 2-2 is my bet.

Get your Gaelic phrase book out.  You can see a re-run as live after five o'clock on Saturday.
