Inverness CT -V- Hearts – Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
High Noon at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium for the mid-day shoot out.
The second half of the capital double sees Heart of Midlothian visit Inverness this weekend.  Mixed fortunes last Saturday saw Inverness snatch a point at the Jambo's city rivals Hibernian, while Hearts were cuffed 3-0 by Celtic.  Former Inverness cult hero Ian Black will return North with his new employers
looking to give Hearts a boost towards the top half of the league, while Terry Butcher will be hoping to consolidate the Highlanders position in the cut throat SPL.
CTO's davie has run the rule over both clubs and here are his thoughts prior to this weekends game.
Welcome to the SPL’s family weekend, unless you sit in that section of the North stand when it’s that every weekend. Reduced prices, activities for the bairns and autograph signing amongst other things should pack them in. Hearts are our visitors, hot on the heels of our creditable away draw against the green half of Embra. Always the owners of a decent away support, they should contribute to an excellent atmosphere on Saturday. All we need is a bit of sunshine, like Leith……..
Team news from Gorgie Road is dominated by them getting back Rudi Skacel for a second stint at the club. Given that he scored 17 goals in his previous tenure, he’s worth watching, but Cyprus to Sneck might be a bit of a shock to the system. Defensively, they are a wee bit short with Wallace injured and Zaliukas not knowing what he wants to do, so the ever volcanic Jim Jefferies might have some shuffling to do on top of his usual ranting. Of course, everyone at TCS is familiar with Ian Black and his possible match up opposite Lee Cox is one to savour. As TB says; "It will be nice to see Ian Black come back. He did very well for us, even although we still went down. He showed a great attitude, so it will be great to see him. I just hope he doesn't do what Dougie Imrie did and score against us!" Quite. Hearts are a strong side, have top 3 aspirations. Two draws, one loss and one win suggests that they will be dangerous, even if their new away strip makes them look like Coventry (sorry Gringo)
ICT have a similar patchy start, with two losses, one draw and one win so there’s not much in it. Saturday sees the return of Stuart Duff from seagull city, and Kevin McCann should return from injury at full back. However, Kenny Gillet is set to see a specialist about his knee after sustaining an injury at Hibs on Saturday, and Danni Sanchez hopes to shake off a knock in time (knee) What is it with this team and knees? It’s still too early for that other notable knee, Foran and the odd calf out, Gil Blumenshtein.
Recent history suggests Hearts are dominant. 16 fixtures have resulted in 9 Jambo wins, 4 draws and 3 ICT wins. None of the results have ever been runaway, so a close game might be in the offing. 3-2, 1-0, even Sky’s comparometer has a hard time separating them.
Davie reckons 1-0 Caleyjags. Adam Rooney to score again. You heard it here first………………..

Families to Get a Kick out of Saturday’s Game

Teaser Paragraph:
Caley Thistle aim to inject family fun in to the matchday experience for Saturday's Clydesdale Bank SPL clash with Heart of Midlothian.
Some 250 Dalneigh Primary School pupils have won free tickets in a competition to attend the game while the Supporters Trust will be opening the Family SportsBar at 10.30 am to run children's activities, including an appearance by Bubbles the Clown.
Several first team players will visit the Family SportsBar to sign autographs and have their photographs taken with fans. The First Division Trophy, won so splendidly by Caley Jags last May, will also be on show for people to be pictured with. So bringing the camera along is a must!
During the interval of the Hearts match there will be a special game between Caley Thistle's under-11s team and their Thurso Youth Club equivalents.
Kenny Cameron, the club's Operations Director, said: "We've arranged these special attractions as part of the SPL's first 'family weekend' at all fixtures.
"The initiative has been developed by the SPL in conjunction with the clubs as part of an effort to attract more families to matches. We fully support this aim as it ties in neatly with our own objectives. The recent launch of the Family SportsBar at all home games helps towards that goal.
"We'll be delighted to see the Dalneigh boys and girls on Saturday and we hope to offer free tickets to as many local primaries as we can this season. After all, these are the supporters of the future."
The club is also offering family hospitality packages for season ticket holders and nonseason ticket holders alike and details can be obtained from the commercial department.

Hibernian -V- Inverness CT - Report

Adam Rooney salvaged a draw for Inverness from the spot after Derek Riordan opened the scoring early on for Hibernian.  It was a tale of two penalties, with Riordan missing one for Hibs before Rooney earned the visitors a share of the points.   Inverness manager Terry Butcher will be more pleased with the result than his counterpart, as Hibs passed up some great opportunities to make the points safe, but as Hibs left the door open, substitute Danni Sanchez was brought down to let ICT take a point back up the A9.

11th September 2010 Easter Road Stadium, Edinburgh HIBERNIAN 1 - Riordan (8) TEAM: Brown, Hart (Thicot 61), Dickoh, Bamba, Grounds, Wotherspoon, De Graaf (Galbraith 68), Miller, McBride, Nish, Riordan

INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE 1 - Rooney (81pen) TEAM: Esson, Proctor, Munro, Tokely, Gillet (Innes 46), Duff, Cox, Hayes, Odhiambo (Sutherland 79), Rooney, Ross (Sanchez 67)
SUBS: Tuffey, McBain, Duncan, Morrison
Referee Crawford Allan Attendance 10,358
Capital Punishment for some ICT fans at Easter road as stewarding reaches a new low.  A number of Inverness fans were not around at the final whistle to congratulate the team on a hard earned draw after stewards removed them from the stands for supporting their team.  The fans had to endure being heavily scrutinised by a cordon of stewards and police for the entire match and the old stand up sit down enforcement meant an early bath for some.
Terry Butcher handed Stuart Duff a start at the expense of Russell Duncan with young Nick Ross continuing to fill the hole left by the absence of Richie Foran.  Danni Sanchez started on the bench alongside Chris Innes and Shane Sutherland, but all three were to play their part before the day was done.  David Proctor filled Kevin McCann's boots as he was not allowed to play against his loan arrangers, possibly a blessing in disguise as Kev maybe needs a bit of time to recover from his injury.  The rest of the team picked itself with the ever so reliable Ryan Esson retaining the number one jersey.
John Hughes began life after Anthony Stokes with big Colin Nish up front and Derek Riordan given a free role to run at the ICT defence at every opportunity.  David Wotherspoon backed up both front men brilliantly.  At the back the introduction of Ghanaian Francis Dickoh was to help shore up Hibs shakey defence and give the team something to build from, and with Sol Bamba alongside him, things were looking solid at the back for Hibs, with Hart and Grounds making up the back four.  With Mark Brown in goals for the Hibs, would it be ironic if we were to get a penalty and he saved it?........Let's see what happens next, over to Ginger Jaggy........
Hibernian Report from Ginger Jaggy
On Saturday we travelled to the capital to face Hibs at Easter Road with Caley Thistle returning to the highlands with a hard earned point. The result stretched Butchers boys fine away record which has been unbeaten on league duty since the trip to Partick last Novemeber. For Hibs it continued a miserable run of 7 without a win at home going back to March. But it had started so well for them to break that sequence.
Derek Riordan was a thorn in Inverness’ side all day but could only get one goal to show for a brilliant individual performance. Hibs started well with Riordan causing problems, but on his first attempt he dragged wide of Esson’s goal. Then Riordan again was played in behind the heart of the ICT defence but Esson manged to knock the ball out of his control with an outstretched arm. But the goal for Riordan was coming, and after a few warnings he opened the deadlock with a fine solo effort showing real composure to nutmeg David Proctor and finish low under the body of Esson. Eight minutes gone and Hibs looked like they were going to end up with an easy three points.
After going behind Terry Butcher’s men finally started to play and caused ex Caley Thistle keeper Mark Brown some problems. Jonny Hayes was getting more into the game driving forward causing the Hibs full backs all sorts of trouble. Grant Munro got too much on a flashing cross and powered a header high into the Hibs end from the front post area.  But it was the other Inverness winger Nick Ross who was involved in a controversial moment. Ross tried to control the ball on his chest in the box but was shoved from behind by new Hibs signing Francis Dickoh.  Referee Crawford Allan waved play on even though it looked like a stonewall penalty. Hibs continued to press, David Wotherspoon had a shot that narrowly curled wide, and just on half time David Proctor gave the ball away cheaply to Wotherspoon who lacked composure in dragging the shot wide. Caley Thistles best chance came from some good play by Hayes who found Odiambo in the box and he cut it to Rooney who had his shot brilliantly saved by the legs of Mark Brown from inside the six yard box.
 HT 1-0
The second half was everything you want in a football match with chances galore and plenty of talking points. First blood went to Hibs and that man Riordan who had a free kick brilliantly saved by Ryan Esson when it looked to have dipped into the top corner. Caley Thistle were next to come close when Rooney was sent clear after a brilliant reverse pass from Nick Ross and his sweetly struck drive cannoned back off the post with Brown beaten. Then Hibs took control for a period with Colin Nish being ever more influential dropping short pulling Munro and Innes all over the place to allow Riordan the space. But it was Liam Miller who found space to cut the Inverness backline in half as Nish ran through, but his shot was saved by Esson and the rebound fell kindly to Edwin De Graaf who transpired to miss the empty net to the dismay of the home fans and the delight of the visiting support. Hibs had another chance to kill the game off when Riordan set up Nish who reversed it back to Riordan, and he ran on he was felled by Proctor who was booked for his troubles. But Riordan’s spot kick rattled back off the post and Caley Thistle were able to clear it to safety.
The closing stages were a bit more even with chances coming for both sides. First came the equaliser from Adam Rooney. Danni Sanchez was brought on, and he tormented the Hibs defence with some quick feet, in fact too quick for Steven Thicot. The Hibs substitute made a rash challenge and the ref had no choice but to point to the spot for the second time in the game. Rooney stepped up and expertly buried the ball into the bottom corner past a despairing Mark Brown. Shane Sutherland had an opportunity to steal the points for Inverness but he volleyed just over from eight yards.  The jubilation from the away fans was halted temporarily by Hibs in stoppage time after they thought they had won the game when Wotherspoon turned the ball into the net but was immediately flagged offside and the Hibs jubilation suddenly turned into a mass exodus as the final whistle sounded seconds later. The game ended in a draw and Terry Butcher will hope Caley Thistle can pick up their first home win of the season against Hearts next week.
MotM was possibly Riordan, with Bamba and Dickoh mopping up most Inverness attacks, although the introduction of Sanchez gave ICT more outlets as Nick Ross had a quiet day.  Adam Rooney battled away to the end and was my ICT top player.  He was unfortunate not to score from the inch perfect through ball from Ross and enjoyed some success late in the game as the Hibs back line became more stretched.  It is becoming increasingly obvious that the sooner Richie Foran returns the better, as we were unable to keep the ball when pushing forward, but still a great experience for some of the youngsters playing at Hibs ground with the new stand looking good, pity about the stewarding.

Hibernian -V- Inverness CT – Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Ginger Jaggy has printed his thoughts for this weekend’s clash of the coupon busters at Easter Road. Two teams capable of playing entertaining football on a good day, but also capable of pressing the self destruct button on a bad day go head to head in the Capital as three SPL points are at stake. This is the first of a Capital club double as ICT take on Hearts next week in Inverness. Often a happy hunting ground for Inverness, boss Butcher will be looking to get back on track after the lifeless performance against Hamilton Academical, although Captain Richie Foran will miss out.

Hibernian Preview On Saturday we will be making our first trip to the capital to face Hibs at Easter Road. Caley Thistle’s return to the SPL has not been easy with the first five games seeing us face Celtic, Dundee United, Hibs and Hearts with Hamilton seen as the easiest game to pick up some points. But the rollercoaster has already started and fans of Caley Thistle have seen a couple of unexpected twists. The first game saw a brave performance put up but it was in vain as Celtic kicked off their title aspirations with a superb Paddy McCourt solo effort. But the first twist was a sensational 4-0 victory at Tannadice courtesy of two cracking strikes, from Kevin McCann and prolific goal scorer Russell Duncan (ok maybe not but it was a cracker). Adam Rooney scored twice to open his SPL account with again another decent finish from the edge of the box and then converting a penalty late on. The fans were on a high, but an old friend/foe (delete as appropriate) in Dougie Imrie popped up without a minute gone to seal Hamilton’s first victory of the season. Fans were disappointed after the fantastic result the week before but three points is not too bad as long as we had some points on the board coming into this mini break for the internationals.
Our opponents have also had an up and down start to the season. Hibernian shot out of the traps last season and at one stage were in title contention but faded away badly as the season drew to a close. Hibs did get into the Europa league play offs but suffered defeat straight away as they crashed out tamely to the Slovenian club NK Maribor losing both legs. When they kicked off their domestic season they got off to a great start winning 3-2 at Motherwell with Stokes, Hanlon and Miller on the score sheet. Thereafter though, their season has gone from bad to worse with defeats and the loss of star striker Anthony Stokes to Celtic on transfer deadline day. The first defeat for Hibs was shaping up to be a decent performance before Kenny Miller scored a hat trick to give defending champions Rangers a comfortable 3-0 victory. They were also beaten 1-0 at relegation candidates St Mirren in Paisley which would have annoyed the Easter road faithful.
So it is all to play for as both sides have 3 points and look to kick on up the table in the coming months. Caley Thistle has a great record against Hibs with Inverness winning 8 games out of 15 and Hibs winning just 5 with 2 draws. That record is helped by the fact that Hibernian have never won in the Highlands and with our last match ending 2-1 to us at Easter Road the vociferous away day fans will be hoping for the same.
Inverness team news for this match sees Terry Butcher regain Chris Innes and Dani Sanchez to the squad.  Caley Thistle have also acquired the services of Stewart Duff again, after his loan spell last season as he is a free agent and could be signed outside the window.  He goes straight into the squad for Saturday. On the three injured players, Foran and Blumenshtein are running again but won’t be in action for a few weeks while Kevin McCann could return for the Hearts game next week although he is ineligible against his parent club for the visit to Easter Road.
Hibs will be playing a bounce match to give their three new signings Darryl Duffy, Jonathon Grounds and Francis Dickoh a bit of match sharpness before Saturday. They also welcome back Kevin McBride who served a one match ban after his red card against Rangers. John Hughes also hopes to have Graeme Stack back after a back problem has kept him out of the last two matches and look for Michael Hart to be ready to face us on Saturday after hamstring trouble, also against Rangers.  A familiar face in goals for Hibernian is that of our very own Mark Brown.  John Rankin might also feature.  One man to keep a close eye on will be Colin Nish who seems to have a habit of scoring against ICT.
Last  line up for Hibernian- Brown, Stokes, Wotherspoon, Nish, Miller, Hogg, De Graaf, Hanlon (60), Bamba, Thicot (70), Riordan (71) – Smith, Stevenson, Stephens, Currie, Galbraith (60), Rankin (70), Murray (71)
The game will be tough as Hibs can be a good side on their day, but I think we can get a positive result out of it either by the odd goal or claiming what I would see as a creditable draw. Hibs can match the best when on form, and will be looking to bounce back from a surprise defeat to St Mirren but so will ICT from the disappointing home result to Hamilton, so it is shaping up to be a cracker.
GingerJaggies prediction 1-1
***Breaking News***No pun intended***
Word on the street is that Darryl Duffy has broken a bone in his foot and will miss this game.

Inverness CT -V- Hamilton - Report

Back to earth with a bump.
After the euphoria of Tannadice, normal service was resumed as Hamilton stunned the home support.  A sensational strike from ex Caley Jaggie Dougie Imrie inside the first minute was the difference between the sides as Inverness struggled to recreate the free flowing football of the previous week.  Simon Mensing closed the door at every opportunity to stifle the home attack, while hitting effectively on the break through new boy Nigel Hasselbaink as Inverness toiled.

28th August 2010 Tulloch Caledonian Stadium INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE 0 - TEAM: Esson, Proctor, Munro, Gillet, McCann (Tokely 23), Cox, Duncan, Ross (Sutherland 74), Hayes, Odhiambo, Rooney
SUBS: Tuffey, Golabek, Innes, McBain, Sanchez
HAMILTON ACADEMICAL 1 - Imrie (01) TEAM: Cerny, Gillespie, Graham, Mensing, Buchanan, Imrie, Routledge, Wilkie (Skelton 71), Flavio Paixao, Marco Paixao (Lyle 68), Hasselbaink (Thomas 78)
SUBS: Murdoch, McDonald, Kirkpatrick, McQueen
Referee J McKendrick Attendance 3851 It’s all Academic.
Inverness started this game as big favourites but failed to live up to the billing as once again our bogey team left with the three points.  Ross Tokely was on the bench alongside Chris Innes, Sanchez, Sutherland, McBain and Tuffey.  With Foran still out Nick Ross kept his spot on the left flank and the same starting eleven that blitzed Dundee United took to the field. Hamilton boss Billy Reid fielded Nigel Hasselbaink up front and Simon Mensing in the heart of the defence, two players who were to have a big impact on the game.   Hamilton had lost both of their opening fixtures 4-0 and were dumped out of the CIS cup by Raith Rovers, Inverness on the other hand were buoyant after whitewashing the Arabs last weekend.  Things were about to change in 40 seconds.
Nobody made a bigger impact than the man they all love to hate, Dougie Imrie.  Before ref Mckendrick’s pea had stopped rattling in his whistle, wee Dougie incensed the home fans by slamming an unstoppable shot high past a startled Ryan Esson.  It was a goal fit to win any match, unfortunately for us, Dougie was now playing against ICT.  Lee Cox got the ball tangled under his feet and lost out on the half way line.  Imrie drifted goalwards as the defenders backed off.  A couple of drops of the shoulders and Dougie found himself thirty odd yards out, but still with plenty to do.  What happened next was stunning, he unleashed a rocket that flew high through Essons left hand as the power and accuracy of the shot caught everyone cold.  It looked as though the ball moved considerably as it fizzed towards the net.  He had every right to show his delight as he glared merrily into the North Stand as his name was chanted, well not quite chanted, but I’m sure he was enjoying the battle already, and it was one that he won convincingly.
Last weeks hero Kevin McCann went off injured after 22 minutes and this meant a reshuffle at the back with Proctor moving wide and Tokely teaming up with Munro.
Esson pushed away a Flavio Paixao curling effort as Hamilton continued to impress and we seemed unable to hold onto the ball.
Our worst nightmare was happening all over again.  Hamilton know how to frustrate us and to be honest they bossed the entire first half as we could not put together one attempt of any note.  Nigel Hasselbaink looked very sharp, and his direct running at our defence was causing problems.  With Simon Mensing and Andy Graham mopping up every ball we lofted forward it was no surprise that ICT trooped off at half time to the sound of disgruntlement.
Half Time 0-1.
This must have been how United’s fans felt last week and it was difficult to see where Inverness were going to get a foothold in the game.  Butcher must have been an unhappy bunny at half time and I’m sure the players would have felt the wrath of the management.  Jonny Hayes was posted missing in the first half, as was Rooney, it’s maybe not their fault entirely as the service from midfield was non existent.  Nick Ross looked to be our best bet to get us back into the game but he needed the senior players to help him out.  Sadly he was left with too much to do although he never stopped trying.  He may have chosen the wrong option when getting into the box on one occasion, but at least he tried to make an impact, winning numerous corners for his endeavours, and flashing a dangerous ball across the face of the six yard box, but no takers.  Rooney lobbed the keeper before being bundled over but the ball was cleared as it bounced towards the empty net.  Nigel Hasselbaink was playing effectively as Hamilton were reduced to hitting on the break, a ploy we have used to great effect over the years.  It sure as hell frustrates the opposition and this is exactly what the Accies did.  At one point Hamilton looked set to increase their lead as they queued up in the box to round off a three man move, fortunately for Inverness we shut the danger down before the trigger was pulled.
Substitute Joel Thomas whistled a shot high into the side net as yet another home attack floundered and Accies swept forward.  This was the pattern of the game and Inverness can have little complaint as we seriously lacked a cutting edge and a creative midfield which left the strikers chasing lost causes.  Thomas Cerny enraged the locals with his usual time wasting, but if truth be told, we could have played till after the international break and still not scored.  We finished the game with a few flurries around the Hamilton penalty box but it was another too little too late scenario.
 Full Time 0-1.
 Tm4tj MotM
If it were to go to a home player it would have been an injustice.  Nobody in blue performed with any great conviction and we were second to every loose ball.  Nick Ross was the pick of the home players and with a few more spl games under his belt he may have been the one to unlock the Accies rearguard.  Hasselbaink can be pleased with his debut, Andy Graham snuffed out Rooney and Co, but My MotM goes to Simon Mensing.  He won every ball in the air and was solid in the tackle.
The International break will give us time to regroup and maybe give Foran some hope of making his season’s debut.  Easter Road in a couple of weeks, maybe the away days will bring more joy.

Inverness CT -V- Hamilton – Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Butchers Family Fortunes
Welcome to the first "six pointer" of the season at Caledonian Stadium, where we renew acquaintances with Hamilton Academicals. The team from New Douglas Park travels up the A9 as the League's bottom club, with no points and two 4-0 defeats behind them. Getting out of the central belt probably never felt so good,
but Billy Reid doesn't have problems to seek this year, and it just got worse after defeat in the CIS prompted more "dancing in the streets of Raith"
In many respects, Hamilton are in a similar position to ICT. League success is a relative thing, with avoiding the drop being the first criteria every year. In the past couple of seasons, they have become used to a certain bullish optimism borne of their young talent and a clever imported mix (including one D. Imrie, more of whom later) However, the crown jewels have been sold (MacArthur and Easton); the defence is missing or injured (Alex Neil, Mark MacLaughlin) in great part and the strikeforce is hampered by Antoine Curier's enforced recall to the east.
Hamilton are left with a mixed bag that is still worthy of respect. Cerny, the goalkeeper, is capable of great things on his day, and the defence still has Ross (well they did until yesterday!), Canning and Skelton. All have turned in good performances in the past in these parts. In midfield, they have not one but two enigmatically named Paixao's to call upon and that man Imrie. We know that he can be brilliant on his day, but affected by what happens around him, and Hamilton's sinking ship impersonation won't help him. You might think that their new signing might help though, his name's Hasselbaink.
Billy Reid, Hamilton's own wee rotunda has pulled no punches this year, referring to his charges as "embarrassing" and "comic cut" after giving away four penalties in two games. God knows how they will cope with Hayes.
At TCS, things couldn't be more different. A solid preseason has given way to a season's start that saw us pick up our first three points on Sunday and progress in the CIS cup, scoring seven goals without reply in the process. From Ryan Esson forward, the team has begun to shape the presence that served us so well last year. TB's intent is well shown by the strength of the side fielded against Peterhead, and not too many changes can be anticipated apart from the return of McCann and Esson. Grant Munro continues to impress this year, and David Proctor has shown that he can effectively interchange with Rossco when required. It's up front, though that our most settled formation looks more dangerous as time goes on. Jonny Hayes is getting back to warp factor 7 speeds, Adam Rooney has phasers set to "kill" and Eric Odhiambo is handing him as much ammunition as he can fire. Russell Duncan is firing long range cannons at will right now and enjoying it by the look of things.
***latest***from the Inverness camp is that Ross Tokely is still struggling, although he is recovering quicker than expected and could make the bench.  Foran, Blumenshtein and Innes all miss out.
Hamilton have lost the services of Jack Ross and Stuart Elliot, both have been released from their contracts.  Martin Canning is suspended, while Alex Neil, Mark Maglaughlin and David Elebert are still on the treatment table.
Things are traditionally tight between these two teams, 1-1 being the score last time out. Foran scored ours, whilst Canning equalised. At that time, we thought we were safe. If you just go by the stats, it might point to something less than exciting ( a sequence of 1-1, 1-1, 1-0, 0-1) It's more like binary than football scores, and shaded narrowly in the sequence by Hamilton. This time, the runes suggest it's perfectly reasonable to hope for a first home win for TB and the team. Let's make some noise if it happens, but please, can we keep our shoes on?
Terry Butcher is convinced that the family feeling is helping his squad to realise their full potential and the family atmosphere will go a long way to helping the cause.  He has said that there is a great feeling in the dressing room just now and long may it continue.  Everyone is on a high, and they all help each other out, the whole team benefits from this, and the fans can go home happy.
The scribe for this preview is our own davie, since he never made Tannadice.

Inverness CT -V- Peterhead - Report

Inverness cruised through to the next round of the CIS cup after a low profile affair against second division basement boys Peterhead. Without Mann and Bavidge Peterhead were as ineffective as Dundee United and Jonny Tuffey had a quiet evening.  A Rooney double and a Grant Munro strike killed the game and the evenings entertainment fizzled out.
25th August 2010 Tulloch Caledonian Stadium INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE 3 - Rooney (pen32, 49), Munro (38) TEAM: Tuffey, Proctor (Golabek 52), McBain, Munro, Gillet (Shinnie 79), Cox, Duncan (Morrison 70), Ross, Hayes, Odhiambo, Rooney
SUBS: Esson, Sutherland
PETERHEAD 0 - TEAM: Jarvie, Donald, Smith, Macdonald (Ross 70), Gethins, Mcvitie (Clark 56), Moore, Sharpe, Emslie, Anderson, Wyness
SUBS: Bateman, Strachan, Taylor
Referee David Somers Attendance 1001 Roy McBain was the only new face to start at the expense of Kevin McCann.  Cox played in the right back position and Proctor and Munro continued in the heart of the back four with Gillet at left back.  Duncan and Roy were the anchor men and the front four remained the same.  Ryan Esson was rested as Jonny Tuffey took the gloves, but he might just as well have stayed at home.
The early play was untidy, with Peterhead having some possession but without creating much, although Connor Gethins did strike a volley wildly over in one such raid.  Cox had a busy opening fifteen as Sharp sped past him a number of times, but Lee was having none of it and eventually earned himself a booking for hauling him down later in the game.  Inverness withstood the early rush from the Balmoor side and took the lead just after the half hour.  Jonny Hayes lured the keeper to the edge of his six yard box and tumbled as he tried to remove the ball from Jonny's control.  Penalty without a doubt, although we all saw it coming and Adam Rooney duly converted low into the corner.  Grant Munro scored the second from an inviting Hays ball into the six yard box, when he lunged forward to nod the ball home and end the Peterhead challenge.
Half time 2-0
Jonny Hayes had been very quiet in the first half apart from his two assists and changing his boots.  He looked slightly perkier in the second half .  Our third goal was the pick of the bunch.  Eric sent his marker the wrong way and threaded a ball through to Rooney who picked his spot low beyond Jarvie.  That was effectively game over.  Russell Duncan almost scored another scorcher as he slammed a twenty yarder off the keepers left hand post.  Steady Russell.  Another chance went abegging when Jarvie stopped a ball on his goal line but nobody followed up to gather the loose ball and the chance was gone.  The last opportunity fell to the elusive Eric, but he sliced the ball over the bar from close range.  Sub Shinnie entered the arena and forced Jarvie to save smartly as the game quietly petered out.
Full Time 3-0
Peterhead never looked like scoring and our defence were always on top.  Denzil never got his shuffle going and in the end we ran out comfortable winners.  Peterhead can now concentrate on getting off the bottom of the division and we can look forward to the next round of the CIS Cup.
tm4tj MoM
Eric Odhiambo continues to impress and some of his turns were excellent.  Russell Duncan is thriving in his Eusebio role, but MotM for me was the goal machine that is Adam Rooney.  Another brace and another cool penalty.  With Richie Foran still to come back things can only get better.
1001 folk gave up their evening to watch this game and sat nice and quietly to make life easy for the stewards.
