SPL u21 rule

wasn't sure where to post this because it's not specific to ICT although it's going to affect us next season

wtf are the benefits of having an under 21 ruling that demands we have a certain number of players under this age in a squad???

do players suddenly stop developing when they reach that age??

I can understand why the SPL implemented this and it was probably with the best of intentions but really all they've accomplished is an increase to unemployment figures for players aged 22.

It's a daft rule IMO. Surely a player under 21 would get more experience from being loaned out to say a Division 3 side than to sit on an SPL side's bench every week with no chance of getting a game.

This ruling came about to try and develop football in Scotland. It was hoped that if clubs were forced to include youngsters in their squads they'd be seen to be bringing those through to first teams. the idea was good but turned out a hinderence and a mockery. Most managers would like to see the rule scrapped.

Thankfully the rule probably won't be a hindrence to ICT next season as look at the age of some of our players but I agree it is a stupid rule and a bit outdated like most things in Scottish Football. Hopefully it gets abolished should league restructuring take place.

It's also worth noting that the rule states it must be outfield players so effectively if you don't have decent youngsters you could have three redundent subs if you include the keeper!
