Baird or Oakley

Baird - 23 starts, 1 on as sub. 3 goals

Oakley - 8 starts, 13 on as sub. 3 goals.

Why does Robbo persevere with Baird? He is absolute mince. The ball boys have more influence on the game than him!!

Time for Oakley to be given a run of starts.

Thoughts?

  • Warren isn't mobile, skillful or fast enough to play up top.  Donaldson maybe is but if we were to convert him to a striker we'd lose something at the back.

I don’t think that’s fair comment. We were not in a position to match the wages on offer to him from elsewhere and even if we did, he would probably not have chosen to drop a level when he could stay in the Premier.

(As an aside he has no goals from 17 appearances at Well, whose manager has said he is looking for new strikers.....)

It wasn't wages that was the issue, it was his lack of wanting to hang around for how he was treated last season and never really given a fair chance.

As for his current record at Well, agreed its not great but at lease he is proven to have scored some goals at a higher level, unlike our current options especially Baird who despite numerous seasons doesn't have a decent record of goals even at this level. Just making the point that we should have gone with at least 1 striker proven to score goals at a level on par or better than we are currently playing at - I don't think that we have.

In answer to the original question, after watching yesterday's game I'd say:

Both. Oakley to start, Baird to come on as a second striker in the last 10 minutes for whoever looks knackered out of the front three.
