  1. Seen Metallica 3 or 4 times but would love to see Rage....
  2. Not looking to speak to mediums really or even people practicing paganism (which tend to adopt a more southern form of the religion). I'm looking more for information on what indigenous north religious practices and beliefs were.
  3. I'm not really doing either. Just having a bit of a laugh at the prodigious navel contemplation that seems to be going on as the planet slowly poisons itself. Rather reminiscent of the concept of fiddling while Rome burns. :015: "Mehercule, Marcus. Oh me miserum! If you build that aqueduct there, in 2000 years' time the Galli, the Germanii and the Britanii will all jump on the bandwagon and you'll have a whole lot of people scooting about Chelsea in 4 wheel drive tractors! You can cancel Watling Street now into the bargain!!!" Anyway, according to last Thursday's Sun, it's farting cows that are to blame in any case! It's more the paradigm of 'man over nature' that they spread that was/is destructive. Look at places such as Iceland where the Romans never got to and which held onto their native cultures. There they still have to ask premission from 'earth spirits' to build a new road! Maybe a bit extreme but it does reveal a genuine respect for nature that's been lacking in most 'civilised' countries...
  4. And here were all of us thinking it was people driving 4x4s that were to blame! Can't work out if you're agreeing with me or not Charles!! It's the philosophy of 'man overcoming nature', very much promoted by the Roman Empire and subsequently adopted by many European cultures, that is at the root of much of the environmental problems we see today... So its nothing to do with too many plastic bags then A symptom, not the cause! The Romans invented the plastic bag though, did you not know that?
  5. I believe the city prosecutor didn't file charges against Buzz. Quite right! My mistake Just don't do it again and there won't be a problem! :004:

  8. Has anyone here got an interest in the indigenous religion of the north of Scotland (i.e., what might now be called paganism)? I'm trying to find some good source material. Not that I'm going to start worshipping water spirits and the like! More of an interest in pre-Roman/Christian culture. I'm researching writing a paper on how modern principles of 'sustainable land-use' are remarkably similar to the religious natural 'laws' that respected the land in pre-Christian times. There's a school of thought these days that suggests that the suppression of indigenous culture across Europe by the Romam Empire has had a very negative net effect on the environment.
  9. Folk love conspiracy theories! There's even more compelling evidence that they did land on the moon. You know, like actual physical proof! I remember hearing a story where someone asked one of the lunar astronauts (Buzz Aldrin?) why he persisted after all these years to lie to people about the moon landings. He got a punch in the face for his troubles!
  10. You can copy multiple files over to it in one operation (indeed, your whole hard-drive if you wish and the USB flash drive is big enough). You just move files around as you would normally do; the fact you're using a USB falsh drive doesn'y change the process...
  11. I have never heard of zorbing, much less know what it is! :001: Can you elaborate? However, for strongman a flat field is almost essential.
  12. Some business aquaintances and myself are planning on having an 'event' this summer (probably in August) in the Inverness area. I've been wanting to organise a 'Highland's Strongest Man' comp (although folk from anywhere can enter) for some time and the event will be based around this. The event will raise money for various local charities. However, I do realise that strongman is quite a minority sport and we're trying to think of other popular events that we can have running at the same time to attract more punters. So my question is, what sort of other activities (that can he held in a field!) would people be willing to come and see? Also, we'd be looking for sponsorship from local businesses/ organisations. We have a few agreed in principal so far but would like ideas for who else it might be worth approaching. Cheers, Hamish
  13. I think the Shannon story has never been off the news, just as much as the Madeleine one was. There's something that doesn't seem right at all about the Shannon incident though. There may well be some indirect link to the Madeleine case....
  14. You just move fils about within Windows Explorer as you would between any drives. Drag and drop. Very simple, even my mum can manage it :001:
  15. That reads a bit counter-intuitive! By a 'big enough one' I obviously mean memory and by 'small' I mean physical size.
  16. Yes, if you've got a big enough one. But they are quite small and can be lost relatively easily!
  17. We're talking about Willie f**kin' Nelson here!! One of Neil Young's major influences (according to the straw haired one himself!). Credit where credit's due... :021:
  18. For living legends I think I can trump you with Willie Neslon. I think even Neil Young himself would concede that!
  19. Unoriginal?! I think his playing style is one of the most original and remarkable! He was an amazing guitarist regardless of the style in which he played though. In my book he was up there with SRV as far as blues-rock guitarists go. A true genius. :clapping03:
  20. Forgot about them! Saw them in Sacramento, CA in 2005. Excellent. George is looking awful like Tommy Vance in his later years these days!
  21. That's a good point! I saw a few bands during that time but mostly ones that I'd already seen. Usually the first time I saw a band was the most memorable. Although Ministry in 1993 were good...
  22. Deep Purple - Wembley Arena, March 1987 Metallica - Monsters of Rock, Pforzheim, West Germany, August 1987 The Pogues - The Capital, Aberdeen, November 1987 Iron Maiden - Monsters of Rock, Bochum, West Germany, August 1988 The Corries - Ellon Academy, 1989 AC/DC - Donnington Monsters of Rock, 1991 Ministry - Barrowlands, Glasgow, 1993 Willie Nelson - Hammersmith Odeon, May 2000 Reverend Horton Heat - Sacramento, California, June 2004 Black Sabbath - Ozzfest, Marysville, California, July 2005 Junior Brown - Crystal Bay, Lake Tahoe, Nevada, November 2005 System Of A Down - Ozzfest, San Francisco, California, July 2006 Tool - San Francisco, California, December 2007
  23. I'm sorry but I don't agree. That's such an emotionally led argument. The reality is that such a small minority of crimes are of this magnitude; the chances of being a victim of such crimes is minuscule. And the majority of murders are solved without the need for a DNA database and very few people ever commit more than one murder. Therefore a DNA data-base would be of no benefit to 99.999% of the population. If you want to save innocent lives, invest the money that would be required to set up this data-base in cancer research or something that will influence more people's lives. I'm not willing to lay down and take it up the arse (metaphorically speaking!) from a government using that sort of emotional blackmail to get a severe infringement on my rights as a citizen passed through law.
