The world cup!
Wonder if the final tonight can match the action at Ferguson Park, Rosewell today. Here's guest player and Champions' League winner Benni McCarthy bulleting home a header for Whitehill Welfare against Hamilton Accies XI. Final score 5-3 to the Accies.

The world cup!
Can't say I agree with much of that SP. Germany are not a defensive side to me. They dominate every game they play and wear the opposition down. Lahm, Ozil, Mueller, Klose, Khedira, all great players, and a fantastic keeper in Neuer. If they were playing opponents without pace as you say, they wouldn't need to defend deep anyway. Argentina? Apart from Messi, very unimpressed with them. Almost as bad as Brazil. I'll be amazed if any team in the world can score a quick goal then a couple more against Germany as you suggest. I think Germany will be taking over the top rank in the world shortly. It's a final and anybody can win it but I'd be surprised if Germany lost though DoofersDad would be delighted, or would he? An Englishman's dream final, the Krauts and the Argies

Nah, both. De Leeuw seemed ok though so 1 out of 6 or 7 is pretty good going for Decked Deek.

The world cup!
One subtle difference DD. Scottish media aren't networked. If Scotland are playing you get your own commentators for the English regions. If England are playing we get Clive Tyldesley....... But yes, I think most of it is healthy banter and the hatred thing is exaggerated by media looking for a few idiots to provide a 'man bites dog' story. If there was as much anti-Englishness as the Daily Mail would have us believe, no English person would ever want to live here. I wish the England lads well, the same guys I watch on MOTD every week. But if Scotland aren't there, the emotional side is completely absent.

The world cup!
The BBC have trumped that today with a real scoop. Hodgson has praised the squad's positive attitude in the three friendlies against Peru, Ecuador and Honduras. "We have been on the front foot in all of the games so far," said Hodgson. "Maybe Italy will make it harder for us but we don't know what a back foot looks like."

Is this the perfect penalty
I'm sure if he got a penalty he would just have stamped on the ball and burst it

The world cup!
Scotland haven't had many reds in friendlies either. In the last 30 years I think the only one was 1995, John Spencer in Japan (2 yellows in the 1st half, game ended 0-0). Prior to that it was Willie Johnston in Argentina 1977 (1-1) unless you class the British Championship as friendlies - Joe Jordan got one in a 2-0 defeat in Wales in 1981. In friendlies the ref's more likely to ask the coach to substitute the player....
