  1. Train is full of Rovers fans, just winding up into party mode. Couple of cops on it too, nobody's allowed to drink till 10 am :-)
  2. And you think some of 'us lot' need to grow up
  3. The Mantis replied to Ronaldo's topic in Other Sports
If you were not so obsessed with your risible attempts at stereotyping or professing support for a party one of who's spokespeople 'only has issues with negroes' it might not have escaped your attention that there is more than one poster on this thread who has, in other fora, expressed support for independence. I have encountered few if any Nationalists who are in the least narrow minded far less so warped as to take delight in failure at a quintessentially English sport which, world wide, has almost as many followers and active participants as football. Those of us who want a proper, progressive, grown-up nation to live in have more to think about than using sport as a jingoistic stick with which to beat other nations.
  4. I'm not sure what you mean Rene. First, Tynecastle has no terracing. Maybe you mean the stewards have turned a blind eye to huge numbers of bevvied-up young men standing, same as they do when the twins of evil visit us. But that's not the same as 'standing being allowed in the lower leagues'. Second, I can't recall any club being relegated from the top league and still having terracing in place after having stretched themselves to meet the criteria of 6000/10000 seats. We ourselves were obliged to have only seating even after relegation in 2009. Teams with terracing such as QOS are rare and have never made it to the top division.
  5. Surely only the likes of Bobby Mann or Mark Yardley possess enough of a gravitational pull to alter the course of a football. Now where's that old photo?
  6. According to 'Going Ballistic' Iain Stewart got 8 hat tricks although 3 were in friendlies.
  7. Most of our strikers (denzil, billy etc) were quite poor at one on ones. The only man with any composure was Iain Stewart. If you have enough composure to lift the ball rather than just drive it, you'll score nearly every time. Some strikers can play it through the goalie's legs but that takes composure too.
  8. I actually agree - it's something that was niggling away at the back of my mind too. However with the obscene amounts of money being thrown at the EPL maybe Scots managers should be seen as an indicator species The strength of the English club sides masks the fact that native players in clubs like Chelsea are extremely rare, hence the national team is about as poor as it's ever been, and maybe the 7 or so native managers, not including interim ones, are next in line for extinction Incidentally, I love watching MOTD, but the highlights make the product look better than it is. I usually get to about 3 EPL matches a season and they may be highly technical, but I've not seen one yet that was value for money, or even as thrilling as say last week at Firhill.
  9. I'll actually be in London the night they play Millwall. Don't fancy it if Billy's unlikely to play. The Den looks a pretty forlorn place, probably look for a non-League game....
  10. Imagine them even having this debate if it was us
  11. FT 3-2 Hibs. Lewis Allan hat-trick (12, 46, 75). Ferguson (40) and Brown (80) for us. Hoban C Brown (Rennie) Howarth Horner J.Brown Polworth Maclennan Wilson (Hull) Ferguson Sutherland Baptie Sub n/u Blackett Crowd 110
  12. V Hibs today at Ainslie Park?
  13. It's just a round-up though. You get to see Marley's misses but that's about it.
  14. Shocking news for Naelifts - I was actually the driver that night. That means Wanderer and Dougie were 2 more as they were definitely in the car. According to Broadfoot it was 11/3/03 which tallies as I was shouting at Hissy to swing on the bar, just as he had done in our 2-0 dismantling of County 3 days before. It was also the night the Duckman legend was born.
  15. Caley beat Spartans 5-0 round about 86-7.
  16. I hope they know the cut off is before 12am 12am is Midnight. That's a matter for debate, Twelve noon is Meridiem.. Could be argued that twelve midnight is neither post or ante Meridiem but merely twelve midnight. That's the way I always did it in my maths classes, 12 noon and 12 midnight. Mind you I just made it up myself, nobody taught me :-)
  17. Listening on MFR it seems like we had the chances to put the game to bed but Clownty got a lift from the goal and went for it last 15. Shame I couldn't come up for the last ever top flight Derby but I'll have to be up at 5 tomorrow. Never seen Marley as an 18 yard box player, more of a winger and certainly not the finished article. The dive sounds like real howler.
  18. That's 4 times Brian has said Jarvis for Jervis. Still game.
  19. Same. Just needing Wycombe for £90. Dougie Imrie sent off for Accies For fighting Just like at school
  20. Get in!!!!! Who's that on MFR with Brian the Donkey?
  21. Another one I remember very clearly was in 72 when Rangers beat Sporting Lisbon 3-2 then lost by the same score over there. They played extra time which ended 1-1 and it went to penalties which Sporting won, 4-2 I think. Then some journalist came up with the rule book showing that away goals counted double even in extra time. So in contrast to modern times, Rangers actually benefited by following the rules rather than breaking them
  22. Nah, it was a quarter final against Cologne in 65. Also Celtic v Benfica in 69, also the quarter final. I think the away goals rule came in later in 65 but it wouldn't have affected either tie. Liverpool had two goalless draws then a 2-2 in the playoff. Celtic won 3-0 at Parkhead before losing in Lisbon by the same score. Billy McNeill guessed correctly.
  23. Nah, this one was at Riccarton. Thought they also used Arniston Rangers' ground sometime too. Yeah, found that out about 2 hrs before KO. I'd already let Mrs Mantis go away with the car so I was snookered Can get to Nitten by bus easily enough.
