  1. Oh dear - no takers! It's pretty close to Sneck. Another - big - clue tomorrow if no one has it by then.
  2. Damn! For some reason I was thinking of aluminium, and I even looked up pictures of the works at Kinlochleven. But of course it's Foyers, bombed on 13 Feb 1941 - https://southlochnessheritage.co.uk/local-occurrences-during-ww2-from-police-files/ Now here's something a bit different. Prehistoric remains - but where? You'll see that the photograph was taken in 2002. I have seen more recent photographs which suggest to me that the grass is a bit shorter nowadays - though it may just be the time of year.
  3. Well done again, weeman! You have it exactly - east side of the river, on the right as you cross the bridge going eastwards. I believe it's called Riverbank Terrace now, but when number 5 was my Mum's childhood home it was just Riverbank.
  4. Big place So whereabouts do you think it is?
  5. Nope. Remember that this thread is called "Let's Go Out Of Sneck".
  6. Aviemore. I'm getting good at this! Here's one which I am sure that you have all seen. But this is from the 50s or early 60s.
  7. That's it, weeman! Next to Skara Brae. We went round it when we were last in Orkney - well worth it if you find old mansion houses interesting. The day that the Google Maps car went round there, the gates on the approach roads to both Skara Brae and Skaill House were shut. So if you're "driving around" you can see Skaill House in the distance, but you probably wouldn't match it to my picture. However, if you click on Skaill House on the actual Google map, you will see lots of pictures of it.
  8. Getting warmer. Have just checked - Google Maps probably won't help if you're just driving about, but will confirm if you guess correctly.
  9. We could argue about whether it is on the mainland
  10. Thought that was in the Isle of Man Nope. Might drop more clues in the morning. Night!
  11. You're closer, IBM. And happy birthday! Same age as me now
  12. Garva Bridge, across the Spey in the Corrieyairack Pass. One of General Wade's. I don't have many that I could use here, so let's hope this isn't too easy for you!
  13. Not going to happen this year - maybe not next season at all. No vaccination, no congregation. No immunity, no community. I think I'm getting the hang of this "government" thing. Snappy slogans 'r' us.
  14. Just remembered that when I was at secondary school (the Academy) in the early 70s, a daughter of the people that owned Meallmore Hotel was in my year. Marian MacLeod. No idea what she did after we left school. That makes her an exact contemporary of IHE, too, as well as Dave Milroy, Billy Urquhart and others. Went round it when I was looking for a care home for my Mum. It still looks pretty much like that, although they have added a more modern block at the right-hand side. https://www.meallmore.co.uk/our-care-homes/meallmore-lodge/
  15. Did you mean the actual car - presumably an unmarked police vehicle - as opposed to the make and model? In which case the answer is no - because I had left town long beforehand. I do, however, remember an "unmarked" police car in the early 70s, which was an acid green Ford Escort. It stood out by a mile. If my school-friends and I saw it parked near a hostelry that we were intending to visit, we knew to steer well clear.
  16. If we have any sense we will keep it in the bank, or use it to service our debt. Not the time to lash out on players - nor to fire (and compensate) one manager and hire another. Survival is the name of the game.
  17. "It follows a top-flight club meeting on Friday at which key members including Rangers, Celtic and Aberdeen backed her call for the issue to be revisited." Money talks.
  18. If there were any brains in Rangers and Celtic, they would have realised that now could be the time for the Atlantic League! They will be playing next season behind closed doors, or certainly much reduced crowds. (Smaller clubs might not be.) As will the big fish in the other small ponds. Would have attracted global interest and much more TV money for all involved. TV companies might even have been willing to tear up domestic contracts for next season in favour of the Atlantic League. And having them out of the way would leave the way open for domestic league reconstruction of the sort that most people would like to see. Of course there isn't time, and there are too many contractual and legal hurdles in the way. I don''t think the travel problems are insurmountable - after all, UEFA is still planning to have the Champions' and Europa Leagues. If only someone had started running with that idea a month or so ago...
  19. Now this one I am certain about. Too many trips south when that was still the main road - though not quite as long ago as that picture! Looking into Carrbridge from the north end. Go on, tell me I'm wrong.
  20. Oh no! Who knew that Inverness had so many identical buildings? Anyway, I am off out now for my permitted exercise, and may be some time. Not sure how many people I am allowed to talk to when I'm out, but I will stay alert. Maybe Mantis can have a go at this one when he gets up.
  21. Intersection of Telford Street and Lochalsh Road. Must have been the same architect as Tomnahurich Street
  22. Intersection of Montague Row and Tomnahurich Street. (Couldn't you have picked one that was easier to spell?) 57 is a bakery now. edit: And Scotty replied while I was typing. Go to bed, Scotty!
  23. I would have thought that these allegations are potentially libellous, or may lead to other legal action, so I'm uneasy about seeing them on this site. Note the confidentiality marking at the bottom of the page.
