Just got a text from a friend who's there saying she wishes she hadn't bothered going - bands not up to her expectations, and she's seen most of them before. She wishes she went to Rockness instead! Weird that LOL :015:

Banjo players kick a$$ especially with a bit of drum and bass behind them :001: Best ever combination is bagpipes with a rock-hardcore beat, Peatbogs and Mark Saul pull it off beautifully, I will do you a cd Johnboy! And no matter what your taste, you would have to admit Fat Boy has a talent for pulling a huge crowd, who generally leave the event in a very happy state of mind, thats a talent not many musicians have! :015:

Its not always necessary, no but certainly helps! If it helps you understand better, it must have been a bit like being in the right frame of mind to understand Gong or Can for the first time! :001: (see, I can do old peoples music too! lol) Aren't all drummers and bass players failed musicians who didnt make the grade? LOL I bet you think keyboard players aren't proper musicians either.

I imagine any really good DJ would consider themselves to be artists just as much as musicians, and Fat Boy makes up his own tunes as well as mix other peoples. And theres plenty of stuff way cheesier than FBS, thats just a matter of taste. I think the problem with old people ( :001:) and dance music is that you've missed out on a relevant time period and or substances which can act like a switch so you instantly understand what the crack is with it. Its a very distinct moment of revelation and usually accompanied by some outstanding clever tunes by the likes of Underworld, Chemical Brothers, Hybrid any On-U sounds (for the oldies!!) or Nubreed, theres plenty more. An event like Rockness, where there's 23000 people all been led the same way through a set of tunes by the DJ who all share the same understanding of dance music is a collective experience you don't get very often, maybe at a really fantastic gig by a brilliant artist but its not the norm by any means. Swamptrash used to be able to do that to an audience on a regular basis but they had some sort of magic going on as well. I know exactly where you're coming from as I too was ignorant of it all once but once the switch flicked on I understood it all perfectly. As I said, you really had to be there. :003:

Don't remember the Chilli Peppers being on Hamish's list, I maybe would've saved the nettles line! As for how it compares - I got a chance to go and knocked it back, don't like big festivals particularly, and I'm not wishing I was there as I'm watching it on telly. I think Norman Cook was a good musician with the Housemartins but I wouldn't have paid money to see them live, But I'll be near first in the queue for Rockness tickets next year. Some events you just have to be there! (Don't forget your wipes!!!)
  9. Wow! :notworthy01: Thanks Charles! :003:

:015: :015: :015: I just wanted to use the "lick p1ss off nettles" line Have you been watching Saxondale TM4TJ? Think you'd like it, the music's from your era :001: Oh and runrig = :toilet01:
  11. They could have got rid of Delahunt too, I think it would work much better as a NON presenter led show :003: Still at least I'll be able to watch it again now :003:

Cheers Hamish I've been dying to use this phrase (and cheers Steve Cougan) I would rather lick p1ss off nettles than see any of that infantile rubbish on your list. Accomplished musicians my erse. Although you're almost right in as much as the total lack of a decent music venue prevents good bands coming to Sneck, even the line up for the new venue about to open is pretty dire. You should hook up with RiG, he's got cr@p taste in music as well.

Maybe if you followed a different team you'd have a better chance of seeing decent football livilion. No wonder you're disillusioned, with the p1sh Livi played last season.
  19. We don't need to sell anyone! We've got plenty cash (unlike Dundee Utd :015:)
  20. Record story CALEY THISTLE CHIEF WARNS BREWSTER OFF BIDDING FOR TOP TRIO CRAIG BREWSTER was last night warned he has no chance of raiding Inverness Caley Thistle for their top players. The Highlanders' director of football Graeme Bennett angrily rubbished suggestions Dundee United were ready for afresh drive to capture Darren Dods, Ian Black and David Proctor. Bennett, furious at the renewed speculation, blasted the club's former boss and bluntly claimed United simply couldn't afford the players. It is understood Tannadice manager Brewster has already conceded defeat in his attempts to snatch free-scoring Craig Dargo. Caley Thistle, who enjoyed the most profitable season in their history last year, would rather let contracts expire next summer than accept less than their valuation. Bennett said: "It's nonsense to say there is some kind of renewed effort from United or some sort of fresh cash on offer. I phoned Craig after reading of this supposed revival in interest and what he mentioned was as before. "It's an absolute no-go. We're not interested. I'm quite confident United simply won't be able to meet our valuation. "I have an idea of figures in my head that might, some day, make me go to the board and say this is best for the club. "But until somebody comes even remotely close to triggering that alarm, it's a no-go. "United's valuation is miles short of ours regarding Dods and Black. "Proctor is one we might have been able to do a deal on but with Ross Tokely's injury worries we are reluctant to let David go." "What I see as most important is that Charlie Christie has all of our biggest assets on board for his first full season in management." Caley Thistle today play the opening match of their Italian tour against Tuscan minnows Montecatini. Brewster GTF! Brewster Nrewster GTF! Loving it! :015:
  21. Herald story Graeme Bennett, Inverness Caledonian Thistle's director of football, has told Craig Brewster he will not be allowed to take any of Caley's main players to Dundee United. Bennett last night rubbished suggestions that United were ready to make a fresh approach for Darren Dods, Ian Black and David Proctor, claiming the Tannadice club could not afford the players in question. Caley will today open their Italian tour against Tuscan minnows Montecatini. On Saturday, they will play an area select, which is expected to be a more demanding contest. In other words, Brew GTF!!!
