  1. Yes, we may indeed need to agree to disagree !!! I dont accept the right of stewards or police to randomly search someone without cause. I agree that this type of action is over the top, and i agree that heavy handed tactics by police and stewards is also both annoying and potentially an infringement of civil liberties ..... However, it is my humble opinion that the crux of our difference in views comes from the fact that I believe the ongoing pattern of illegal and downright dangerous behaviour vis-a-vis the use of flares in an uncontrolled manner within a stadium does actually give them cause whereas you do not !!! I dont know if the same "ING" advert runs in the UK ... but there is one over here for their managed portfolios that goes something along these lines. Two guys are standing talking. One says "I want to stop losing money on buying stocks" to which the ING rep replies "you want to stop losing money buying your own stocks? .... stop buying stocks then" ..... I would say the same principle applies here .... "I want to stop being searched by the cops when going to a football game" .... "you want to stop being searched ... then stop doing (or condoning) illegal or dangerous things that gives them a reason to search you" ..... The "innocent" supporters in the midst of this should be quite unhappy at the original statement .... it seems to want to protect the offenders rather than eradicate their illegal and downright dangerous behaviour by using that larger group of fans who do not partake in this behaviour as a pawn in this particular game ..... To you it seems black and white .... to me, there are many shades of grey !!!
  2. Kinda with you on this one too bughtmaster .... The only thing I can think of with Proctor is that it somehow relates to him being regarded as a Brewster legacy with him leaving the club to follow Brewster to Dundee and then returning when Brewster came back for his second spell ...... he gets all the negative vibes that many still feel for Brewster, and that is perhaps a rod for his back of his own making. I know he has made mistakes in games, and I know some see him as lightweight, but being honest, can anyone actually say he has had a decent enough run in the team over the last season or two to actually be able to get some match fitness in, or to form an understanding or partnership with players around him so he can at least try to prove the doubters wrong ...... ? Recent reviews of Gillet, Golobart, and others are good, but you dont need to search too far back to find folk foaming at the mouth over their bad performances .... Proc may be physically fit, but when asked to come into the side as cover, he's definitely not match fit. Having said that, I too see him as a squad player rather than an automatic choice, and for me, the fact he can slot into multiple roles has been his downfall rather than the bonus it should be. He isnt a right back, he isnt a right sided midfielder, he isnt a centre half, and he isnt a central defensive midfielder yet he has filled all those roles. I would re-sign him on that basis, but if he decided to move on I also would not lose sleep over it.
  3. This is one occasion where Celtic fans should "know their history" !!!! Do a google search for Celtic and Flares and you get rather a lot of hits, very few of which relate to 70s fashion !!! Whether its at Celtic Park, in European ties, or even in pre-season friendlies in England, there are dozens of reports of this, and the vast majority of them are recent, many involve injury, and most are related to so-called "ultras" culture. In other words, Celtic fans, albeit a small minority of them, currently have a reputation for smuggling prohibited and dangerous items into various stadia. It is therefore not unreasonable for the security staff or police to try and mitigate this. I would also expect the same treatment dished out to other "supporters" if they continually exhibited this behaviour too ! I do stand by what I said earlier in saying that I think St Mirren may be going in a bit heavy handed on this one, but its all relative, and as CaleyD says, possibly rooted in the intelligence gathered by the authorities in the leadup to the game. The St Mirren reaction is in response to a (recurring) pattern of behaviour. The game does belong to the fans, but those same fans also have to take some responsibility for allowing the minority to tar them with the hooligan brush .... The Trust should be urging the fans to "self police" the minority who are causing this rather than trying to lay all the blame at St Mirren. Civil Liberties, YES, but that does not mean allowing anarchy and chaos in the stands ! I think you are lucky ! As I posted above, Toronto FC have also had a debate about flares. One Supporters group with maybe 200 members (in a 20,000 stadium) and who are seated in the opposite end of the ground from the other supporters groups, developed a reputation for going over the top and this has meant certain security measures are now in place for us all .. not just at that end of the ground, but at the whole ground. It has to be said that TFC is pretty lenient for the most part with its supporters, and has welcomed communication, meetings, suggestions and ideas, and it also allows "raucous" behaviour in the stands with standing, chanting, flags and banners etc when it does not fall foul of the stadium rules ... but this group always tried to push the boundaries, and one of those boundaries was "pyro" ... flares and/or smoke bombs. Its a long story, so I wont go into it in detail, but the end result after a few incidents was that the club started enforcing policies that had always been there but were rarely used. For example, all flags and banners had to be checked in an hour before the game, the 'capos' leading the chanting had to get official ID badges issued prior to each game, and all fans would be subject to searches or random pat-downs ..... Its not fun, it delays you getting in, and there was a lot of resentment towards that supporters group rather than the club or the security folk (who hated it too as they had to work for their money rather than just collect a pay cheque). The club did get it in the neck for the flags/capos restrictions as most thought that was heavy handed and had nothing to do with the flare issue, but most did not object to pat-downs as you could relate to it being a preventative measure for the flares and the anger for that was directed at the group who caused the problem rather than the club who just reacted to it. In the end, the other supporters groups 'self-policed' their own members and the club weeded out the offenders (the group is pretty much disbanded now). End result towards the final part of the season was a relaxation of the rules again .... if we behave decently, the club doesnt go over the top and vice-versa ..... simple as that. Been through an airport as a "business traveller" recently ? Full Body Scanners. need I say more. Again, the "treatment" is a reaction (and yes, perhaps at times an over-reaction) to past events (be that an airport or a football match) and the only way to have it abolished is to deal with or mitigate the cause. I mentioned the thrown flare in my post above, what I didnt mention was that it whizzed over my head, just a few feet away (it was probably more, but it felt that close at the time). If a glob of chemical had dripped right at that moment, whoever was closest would have been maimed or scarred for life, rather than the poor woman who "just" had a hole burned in her jeans and a rather sore burn on her leg when it finally landed on/near her. These things are dangerous !!!!!! I would agree with a campaign that asserts the right of football fans to be treated with respect by those tasked with stewarding or policing games. There is nothing more aggravating than being singled out for no good reason other than the fact that the steward that day wants a wee power kick. I have heard plenty of examples on both sides of the pond about unjustified and unjustifiable treatment, and experienced it myself, and we have even had some dialogue about it in relation to isolated incidents at ICT over the last few years which led to private chats with ICT officials ... however, I do not believe this is a good example to spearhead any such campaign ..... You can dress it up in Civil Liberties speak or generalise that it relates to every football fan in the land if you wish, but in this case it does not ... Its a specific reaction to a specific set of supporters for a specific type of behaviour that is both habitual and recent. If the Trust want to address this, they should address it internally first !

must dash .... !!! not that I need any excuse to look for new "emoticons" for the site .... but this gives me an excuse to look for haircut/beard/moustache related ones

This kind of gesture is what builds the togetherness within the team, and loyalty from the players. Some clubs would not think twice about tossing aside a player like Hogg who has suffered a potentially career threatening/ending injury. Its a business after all and an injured player is not good business. However, despite the mumps and moans we sometimes have about ICT being less professional off the park than some other teams, I think they have hit the spot with this one and showed they care, which in turn allows the player to concentrate on recovery. Chris Hogg will return, anyone who reads his blog sees that determination and can be optimistic about that, and when he does return, he seems the sort of player who would want to repay the faith and loyalty that the club and manager has shown to him. Lets not forget that he is only 26 and his best years may be ahead of him should he recover fully .... assuming he recovers - and I concede that this is the gamble ICT are taking - he may even be a future club captain ?
  6. agree with first two, not sure about Tokes though .... perhaps another season (or two) at ICT in the SPL before semi-retiring and turning out for Formartine perhaps (or wherever Steve Paterson is managing at the time) ?

Was over in Houston looking at signing a two year deal with Houston Dynamo but just tuirned it down .......
  8. No sympathy for the Celtic fans .... and even though St Mirren, IMHO, are using this as a convenient excuse, it is the one or two idiots doing this who have given St Mirren the opportunity to brand them all as irresponsible pyromaniacs ! This exact debate rages at Toronto FC too ..... and the main issue is safety. The tip of a typical Road or Marine Flare - which is what fans tend to be able to lay their hands on - glows at a temperature of about 1400°F .... It can cause horrible burns if the person handling it does not know what they are doing, and even worse damage to innocent bystanders (from drips or splashes) if the idiot decides to get rid of it by throwing it when the stewards approach. I know, because the throwing thing happened in my section at TFC and the results of it have been felt to this day. A woman - minding her own business - had a hole burned in her jeans and suffered a leg burn when the material stuck to her skin along with some of the pretty nasty chemicals used in these things, and fans since that incident and a few other smoke/flare incidents are now routinely patted down before games. One supporters group in particular always used to try and smuggle them in ... but once all fans started getting subjected to pat-downs, and that particular group lit a few in the opposite end of the stadium from the main supporters groups and were thrown out and many had season tickets revoked, it kinda stopped ..... The worst part is that any chance of having "organised" pyro in the stands ... which one or two MLS teams do with designated (and safety qualified) personnel who have the proper flares, and sand/water buckets close to hand is all but gone ..... The club wont risk it because of the actions of a few ****heads !
  9. Celtic and Flares ??? How dare the patterned folk of Paisley set the fashion police on the great unwashed ...... Heard a rumour it was this guy they were looking for ......
  10. 4 Videos now up on "ICT-TV" .... The normal highlights supplied by the BBC as well as interviews with Terry Butcher, Shane Sutherland and Steve Williams. interviews conducted by MFR and filmed by AndyCAM LINK: http://ictfc.com/matches/video [need to be registered and logged in to view, but registration and viewing are free]
  11. lots of positives about today ... not the least of which is that its a win over Hearts, a team with problems off the park, but a team that prior to today had gone six games unbeaten and who skelped St Mirren stupid last week Very nice result .... and as someone noted on twitter .... Kenny Gillet does like "a clean shit" (twitter joke for those who follow @gilletkenny rather than bad language !!! A typo that will stick for a while !)
  12. yeah, noticed the "first goal" comment ... think he means first of the season ... he said that earlier. Also mentioned the Tokely substitution was our second .... I must have missed the first along with BBC, SKY, ESPN and eveyone else
  13. Sponsor's man of the match today - Shane Sutherland Radio Scotland MOM sounds like - Jonny Hayes
  14. 3 in 53 ..... but only 14 of those games were matches where he was in the starting lineup. A lot of his other "appearances" were last 5 minute cameos ... a bit like the argument used for Rory McAllister ..... Each game where Sutherland scored, was one where he was in the starting lineup and also each one was a home game. He scored -V- Hearts today, Celtic (in a 3-2 win) and Motherwell (in a 3-0 win) ...
  15. could be Mike Noble for MFR ? not listening to that one either .... Alex was very vague with his question ... typical moderator
  16. Andy Barrowman for the pars again today ....... also Liam Fox for Livi against QOS Martin Bavidge for Peterhead against Clyde Darren Dods for Falkirk
  17. Brian Irvine I think .....along with Scott Davie for the live commentary ... not sure who is doing open all mics ... can hear him, but not listening to that stream so dont know .....
  18. Caley Thistle clean sheets are like buses... ...you wait ages for one of them and two suddenly come along one after the other. With todays 1-0 win over third placed Hearts, courtesy of a 49th minute strike from Shane Sutherland, Caley Thistle now go 6 games unbeaten, and are theoretically less than a game away from 6th spot !!! Hearts Blown Away Edinbrgh's finest were blown away by a whirlwind at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. They had no answer to the tormentor in chief, Jonny Hayes who showed them a clean pair of heels whenever he got on the ball, and not content with that he helped out in defence by tracking back and snuffing out any threat that Hearts wide boys might have posed. It was Hayes finest game for Inverness. Terry Butcher had to make seven changes from the side that knocked Dunfermline out of the cup. the weather almost saved him the bother as torrential rain and gale force winds lashed the Moray Firth and brought about a couple of pitch inspections, despite covers masking the surface, and it was touch and go for a while before the game went ahead. With midweek heroes Roman Golobart and Andrew Shinnie crocked long term and Lee Cox straining a calf, Butcher had to shuffle the pack big time. Thomas Piermayr, Ross Tokely and Graeme Shinnie were rested from the back line as well but Ryan Esson returned to his number one spot in place of the impressive Jonathan Tuffey. So, this meant a completely alien back five taking to the park. Josh Meekings at Right back, David Proctor and Steve Williams as centre-backs and Kenny Gillet returning to left back. There were starts for Nick Ross and Shane Sutherland with McKay dropping to the bench. Some of these changes were due to the hectic schedule recently and not risking players who are still not fully 100%. Hearts were without Zaliukas red-carded against the Buddies; McGowan filled his boots, but Templeton, Obua and Santana only made the bench. Sutton was the lone striker, no doubt an attempt to unsettle the untried home sides back four with his battering ram style of play. The game started amid fears that the prevailing anticyclone and heavy precipitation might eventually get the better of the playing surface. Thankfully the conditions were deemed good enough by referee George Salmond for the game to continue and off we kicked. A bright start by Inverness who were looking sharper than their counterparts in the early stages and broke forward at pace, Jonny Hayes looking up for the challenge after having his throat felt in midweek by captain Foran. Hearts were looking sluggish in the swirling vortex, but Hammill tried his luck as the ball broke to him some thirty-five yards out. Esson was helpless as the sidewinder ball smacked off the crossbar and away to safety. A let off for the home side, but that was about all Hearts had to offer in the first half as Inverness took the game to them. Our makeshift defence looked as though they had played together for years. The full backs dealing with the wingers with ease and Williams and Proctor handling the threat of Sutton comfortably and displaying great composure at times when the ball was lobbed forward. Williams looks an admirable athlete and strolled through this game untroubled. Hayes was tormenting the Hearts back line and his darting runs were causing them some grief, so much so that they resorted to upending him at every opportunity with Darren Barr being noted by the referee inside ten minutes. After nineteen minutes Elliot left the pitch to be replaced by the dangerous David Templeton, no doubt unable to take the jibes after his hilarious double foot fresh air swipe at the ball right in front of the north stand. Inverness were well on top with Greg Tansey probing and dictating play in midfield and a number of balls into the Hearts box went unpunished. Some of this due to the ball getting tangled under foot and some down to poor finishing. In a rare foray forward, a Templeton free kick was comfortably saved by Esson, looking to keep his second clean sheet in a row. Inverness did have the ball in the net, Kello blocking an initial effort from Hayes, and after a couple of goes at it, Gillet knocked the ball in but one of the three were flagged offsides. It was Ross who tried to nick the ball and he was the one breaching the offside rule. That did not stop the tannoy man playing the celebratory tune, much to the glee of the North Stand who appreciated the joke. McGowan was booked nearing half time and Nick Ross had the crowd on their feet as he curled one agonisingly wide. Tade almost opens the scoring as he knocks one wide from inside the six yard box, but the half time whistle draws the game into the break. Half Time 0-0 Inverness started the second half where they left off, pressing Hearts onto the back foot straight away and after some tidy passing play and tenacity from Jonny Hayes, he picked out Shane Sutherland in the box and his powerful header from close range went through Kello and squirmed over the line with the keeper helpless. Shane's first goal this season after spending plenty time on the bench and just reward for his perseverance. This stung a lack lustre Jambo's into action and they realised they had to do something if they wanted anything from this game. A couple of fouls later and former Caley Jaggie Ian Black was carded, and not before time. Before seventy minutes had gone, Sergio's intentions were clear as he replaced Barr and Black with Santana and Obua. This injection gave them more pace and width as they tried to recover the game. The wind in the final third at the South end was restricting Esson's attempts to clear the ball and he was only managing to reach about thirty yards as he faced the teeth of the gale. In fact the weather was more problematic than the Hearts strikers. A more frenetic end to the game was probably more comfortable for the players on the park than the watchers in the stands. Although Hearts enjoyed more possession now, Inverness still looked more threatening on the break and a cross come shot from wide on the left wing from Sutherland was centimetres away from bouncing into the net as it struck the post with Kello stranded. Hayes spurned the best chance of the half after Tansey threaded him through on goal with ten minutes left. Unfortunately Kello was equal to the wee Irishman and as Hayes flicked the ball goalwards the Keeper blocked the shot to keep Hearts interested. Hearts were reduced to taking pot-shots from distance, but none of them troubled the keeper, and likewise Hayes and Tansey for the homesters. Hearts last fling was blocked comfortably by Esson and that was the final action after four minutes of added time. Full Time 1-0 This was a great advert for summer football, the game was played out in horrendous conditions. Driving rain, blustery swirling wind that would cut you in half and a ball that floated around like a balloon in a tornado but it all made for an entertaining spectacle and the scoreline although unexpected considering our injury problems warmed the cockle of our hearts. To be honest, there were no failures today and picking a MotM is unfair to some. Jonny Hayes tore the Hearts defence to shreds with some old fashioned wing play. They had no answer to him, even with two men keeping an eye on him and resorted to some rough house tactics to stop him. Hayes was on a mission though and had his best game this season. Greg Tansey pulled the strings in midfield, popping up in attack and defending in depth when needed covering every blade of grass, but my MotM goes to someone who covered every blade of grass twice. Richie Foran made his greatest contibution to the cause yet. He was everywhere, winning defensive headers, blocking shots and distributing from the back, what a performance from the captain. Special mention to Proctor and Williams who complimented each other perfectly and strolled through the game and Ryan Esson for another clean sheet. Josh Meekings also booked himself the right back slot and Gillet's pace is a huge asset at left back. Nick Ross used the ball well and was unfortunate with one effort, but at the other end he declined a shot on target electing to play in Tade. In the end it was neither, but promising display from young Nick. And to the scorer Shane who has had a traumatic week losing a close friend. It must have been difficult for him but he showed great qualities and scored a vital winner. Headaches for Butcher now after that eleven produced the goods, despite the inclement weather.
