see my comments [and pdf file] above ... plan approved in 2006 for that very idea. The whole 're-zoning' issue seems to revolve around the names of areas. Longman "core" has been made smaller over the years and cannot be used for this type of thing but Longman Bay which realistically didnt exist in previous plans can be used for this. I was sure I read something more extensive online somewhere, might have been courier or HN or a different site altogether, but sure I saw something that had an artists impression of the area. might have a look later

Think it was the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act of 1980 that brought this ban (and a few other things) into law. Think the act has been added to or superseded over time but that was the original name I believe ...... no doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Aha ... found the plan (approved June 2006) : {Click on the link to see the approved plan - PDF} In it, Longman Bay - (the blue bit in the pic below) is classified for redevelopment as "a high density “urban village”/visitor “gateway” of mixed residential, hotel and office development, tourist attractions including marina, together with major recreational links, the Caledonian Stadium and park n’ ride terminus; [attach=1] There's also this old article in the Courier that suggests that whole area is going to end up with industrial one one side and leisure nearer the coastal side .... {Harbour Development} [attach=2]

read that in the Highland News .... {LINK} What it doesnt say is when we will be changing the name of the Stadium to "Portacabin Park" :024: but seriously ..... I would imagine the gym (at least initially) would be private as its for the players benefit and if open to the public why bother spending money on it - just go to a public gym as they do now. Moving onto the pub .... every time it has been mentioned in the last few years most people have regarded it as something that could be a considerable money maker if it is done correctly. I hope that the club actually seek advice from people who have been involved in the licensed trade who are associated with the club (eg. Caley Club landlord) or who are big supporters of the club (eg. George MacLean) to talk through their plans and any potential pitfalls rather than go it alone. In my own opinion, it would need to be a decent building - prefab is ok so long as its not portacabin style like the shop - It would also need to be large enough to accomodate a big rush once a fortnight. Perhaps what is required is not a huge building that costs a lot in heat and light but maybe a smaller main bar which has an enclosed (fenced off) 'patio' or 'beer garden' so that the overspill on match days could stand outside. This would have the added benefit that (if it is actually open at other times) its not like a huge empty cavern inside on days when there are no matches. They do this quite successfully in Toronto - even when it is -30 and snowing outside - by using pull down/out canopies on the sides of smaller bars in conjunction with heat lamps to make it comfortable so a similar arrangement in Inverness should not be a big problem. Maybe the bar could be open all day on a Saturday when the team are at home and restricted hours during the week - good pub lunches during the week might bring in a bit of trade too. I dont have the same fears of zoning that CaleyD has - for years the council have quietly been moving towards establishing the coastal area from the edge of the harbour to the nairn road as a marina/leisure area - I am sure the plans were online somewhere just about a year ago but cant find them.

Couldnt get away with that, but we could go as low as 376 away tickets (5% of ground capacity)
-
Yup - pretty much what I have heard over the years .... If it were a normal stand it might only be a (very) few rows deep because of the pipe and the inability to re-route it without incurring considerable costs ..... guess we will just have to wait for the SPL / UEFA / FIFA and see if they give any credence to the growing movement to allow 'safe standing areas' at stadia. This area would be perfect for a standing area given that it was one before we reached the SPL.

unfortunately, our site search function stopped working properly a little while back so the only option is to use the sitemap in the main menu on the left to look for old articles. We have a few tweaks to make when the season ends and hopefully it will make searching the site and finding old articles a little easier

Think this is the main reason
-
I think David Sutherland did float the possibility a couple of years ago ... however our current chairman made it quite clear that a 4th stand would be built only when it was actually needed ..... PAGE 2 for stadium questions
-
Got this from the club a little earlier ....... unfortunately, I will be unable to make it on account of being 3500 miles away, but I assume I was meant to highlight it to local fans who might be able to make it along ...... The Reserve team are at home to Rangers tomorrow evening (Tuesday 17th April) with a 7.00pm kick-off. Admission prices are £5 adults, £3 adult Season Ticket holders, £1 concessions. Why not come along and give the boys your support?

That sounds about right !!!!

Latapy probably doesnt need a permit as he has become 'naturalised' ... same would apply to Richard Hastings if he is officially classed as Canadian !!!
-
{LINK} I am a little confused over the criteria and didnt think the SPL could / could not grant a permit ? .... I know there is a UK HOME OFFICE rule that the player must have played OR BE EXPECTED TO PLAY in 75% of his country's last/next international games and that the country should be in the top however-many teams in the world (25 ? 50 ?) before a permit is granted. However, how is it that the SPL can refuse a permit whereas the SFL can grant it ? Is there a quota in each league ?

Gretna will (eventually) stand or fall on their own merits just like Livingston. They currently have a small fanbase and a chairman with deep pockets who can do whatever he likes with his cash. He will realise his dream of seeing them in the SPL but its a very good question to ask what will happen next if he succumbs to illness or if he loses interest once they are actually in the SPL. Both scenarios are possible and Gretna may well tumble to division 1 or 2 ... in the end, they will find their level and compete at that. The same applies to Livingston, with a small fanbase, who spent wads of their chairman's cash to get where they were. It will be some time, if ever before they get back, but if they do it, this time it might just be on merit. Dundee Utd might be accused of a similar thing with Eddie Thompson throwing cash around to secure McCall, then Brewster as well as players, the difference is that they are a big club with a decent fanbase and he is trying to get them back to where they were. His best signing in the debacle of the last few years is undoubtedly Craig Levein who is an excellent manager. Caley Thistle are also seen as similar by a few - a chairman with loadsa money who built two stands to get us back to our ground to play SPL football. They might be right in some ways but we are fortunate that David Sutherland didnt just throw pots of money at us, he educated the staff / management of the club to work within a fiscal plan so that we could try and live within our means while still progressing and only came forward with cash where absolutely necessary. Hopefully Alan Savage - who is also not short of a bob or two - will take us forward in a sensible manner so we are in the SPL for years to come. anyway ... to answer the question I would prefer St Mirren to go down. I know more Pars fans and used to spend a bit of time in Dunfermline on courses a few years ago so prefer that team and town as opposed to Paisley.

If IHE took you on a pub crawl, then somewhere in there was probably the Tarry Ile ....... glad to hear you survived your expedition with the tattoed one, not many do :015: :015: Clacher - you are on ..... there shall be no more promoting of Johnny Foxes to non-natives as soon as we receive the cheque .... 5 grand should cover it. But instead of a ban, we shall impose the penalty of a pub crawl with IHE and the offender has to buy all the drinks :015: :015:

Agree 100%. Not only do the players have to be dedicated, but so do the coaches. There are minimum certification requirements for all coaches at SPL clubs from head coach down to youth coaches. All have to be certified to certain (different) levels and as 'D' says, this doesnt come cheap so why should they put up with someone who 'cant be ersed'. Whats the player going to be like 10 years down the line if they cant be bothered at that age ? Many people on this site do or have had some affiliation to local 'amateur' football in Inverness .... ask yourself how frustrated you felt when some of the players signed to your amateur team didnt turn up because they couldnt be bothered ......... it used to drive me nuts !!!! Take that to a professional level and you have to tell people 'these are the rules, and if you dont follow them, there's the door ........' I am sure there are plenty of other youngsters chomping at the bit to get the chance.
