  1. Can't really argue, the Council must be doing their best.....it's just that Councils generally are rather **** at prioritising things. The one area that has bothered me is the car park at the big Tescos in Sneck. No attempt seems to have been made to clear it - I presume no-one wants the responsibility, but if the shops want business they should get together and do something. I was stuck outside Burger King the other day, wheels just spinning uselessly, I had no choice but to go for a bacon double-cheeseburger and hope for a thaw...
  2. I've read a good few and none has come near to 'The Miracle of Castel di Sangro' by Joe McGinniss It's about Castel di Sangro Calcio, a football club from Castel di Sangro in the Province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It covers their moment of greatness came in 1996, when they were promoted to Serie B, a noteworthy accomplishment for a team coming from a town of only 5,500 residents. Even greater, they were able to survive in that league another year' a book I couldn't put down till I'd finished it, only ?8 from Amazon If you're bored get it, you won't regret it
  3. About a foot of snow up here on the black isle. IF I can dig the car out how much snow is there down at the Longman?
  4. Doesn't matter if you've never been to Eastlands, that quote is quite enough to qualify as a City fan :D I once attended the Manc derby at OT (or the Swamp as us city fans call it) as a Corporate guest - it was the only way I could get a ticket. It meant we had decent seats in the Main Stand. Next to me was a Japanese bloke who supported Utd. He'd travelled al that way to see Utd for the first time. Now I'd had a few bevies (and told Quentin Fortune to f#ck off in the restuarant) and I told the Jap (who didn't speak English) that Utd were wearing blue that day, and the chump believed me. He accidently cheered City all game (1-1, the game where Keane crippled Alfie Haaland). 6,000 mile round trip to cheer the wrong team...
  5. It's a really tough one for me this decision. I've followed City (from afar and as a season ticket holder) for nearly 40 years. They mean so much to me. In that time we've mostly been on a roller coaster, but the arab owners offer the chance to achieve something. Everything tells me that Hughes deserved more time. Course he did, City aren't in a bad position and if the defence was half decent we'd be right up there at the top of the EPL. Some of the buys haven't worked out (yet), but at that level some just don't. Toure has been more of a disappointment than Lescott. Dunne had to leave as he'd gone stale after 9 years at the club. Hughes wasn't far off astounding results. As a rule you don't sack your manager unless you have a better replacement lined up. I don't think Mancini is a better replacement, so they should have given Hughes the rest of this season. IF they had Jose or Hiddink lined up I could see a case for change, but they didn't. Yesterday's game was the season in a nutshell. ?200m spent and they couldn't defend a lead. That gave the owners the excuse they were looking for Which brings me to Caley......it is possible to support 2 teams if they don't play in the same country. I just don't feel Butcher was ever the right man to take over from Brewster. Something needed to change but I don't think the right choice was made. I don't know who is the right choice so as far as I'm concerned Caley must stick with Butcher....and just hope....I'm wrong
  6. Grimsby isn't such a big place, someone will have told them about it whether they are bothered though.......
  7. That's an interesting point actually. I was discussing with someone recently, if everyone in Inverness who weren't born there, were told to leave, how many people would be left. Not that many I reckon. Just born in Sneck or the local area? I reckon many now living in Sneck have moved in from within 50 miles. It'd be a tough call to bar those of us born nearby (drumnadrochit) who moved away then came back
  8. From the Grimsby Town fans forum: Dear Players of Grimsby Town FC I am writing with regard to my absolute astonishment and disbelief as to the sheer magnitude of your complete lack of talent and failure to carry out the job for which you are paid to do. I am not aware of any swear word or other derogatory phrase in my current vocabulary which comes close to a description of your ?performance? (and I use that term loosely) this afternoon, but let me just say that you have collectively reached a level of inadequacy and ineptitude that neither I nor modern science had previously considered possible. In fact I recall a time, in my youth, when I decided to call in sick at work and instead spent the entire day in my one bedroom flat wearing nothing but my underpants, eating toast and w#nking furiously over second-rate Scandinavian porn. Yet somehow, I still managed to contribute more to my employer in that one Andrex-filled day than you complete bunch of toss-baskets have contributed to this club in your entire time here. I would genuinely like to know how you pathetic little p?ssflaps sleep at night, knowing full well that you have taken my money and that of several thousand others and delivered precisely f#ck all in return. I run a business myself, and I believe I could take any 4,000 of my customers at random; burn down their houses, impregnate their wives and then dismember their children before systematically sending them back in the post, limb-by-limb, and still ensure a level of customer satisfaction which exceeds that which I have experienced at Blundell Park at any time so far this season. You are a total disgrace, not only to your profession, not only to the human race, but to nature itself. This may sound like an exaggeration, but believe me when I say that I have passed kidney stones which have brought me a greater level of pleasure and entertainment than watching each of you worthless excuses for professional footballers attempt to play a game you are clearly incapable of playing, week-in, week-out. I considered, for a second, that I was perhaps being a little too harsh. But then I recalled that I have blindly given you all the benefit of the doubt for too long now. Yes, for too long you have failed to earn the air you?ve been breathing by offering any kind of tangible quality either as footballers or as people in general. As such, I feel it?s only fair that your supply runs out forthwith. I trust, at this precise moment in time, that Mr Fenty is in his office tapping away on the Easyjet web site booking you all one-way flights to Zurich, complete with an overnight stay with our cheese eating friends at Dignitas. Don?t bother packing your toothbrush ? you won?t need it. In the event that our beloved chairman can?t afford the expense (understandable given that he?s soon going to have to assemble a new squad from scratch), then I am prepared to sell my family (including my unborn child) to a dubious consortium of Middle Eastern businessmen in order to pay for the flights. Christ, I?ll drive you there myself, one-by one, without sleep, if I have to. Failing that, understanding that most dubious Middle Eastern businessmen are tied-up purchasing Premier League football clubs, I ask you to please take matters into your hands. Use your imagination, guys ? strangle yourselves or cover yourself in tinfoil and take a fork to a nearby plug socket, or something. Just put yourselves and us fans out of our collective misery. So, in summary, you pack of repugnant, sputum-filled, invertebrate b#stards; leave this club now and don?t you f#cking dare look back. You?ve consistently demonstrated less passion and desire than can commonly be found within the contents of a sloth?s scr?tum, so frankly you can just all f#ck off ? don?t pass go, don?t collect your wages, don?t ever come back to this town again. I look forward to you serving me at my local McDonald?s drive-thru in the near future. Yours sincerely A very disillusioned Mariner I checked, Grimsby are 2nd bottom of English Div 4 (forget all this Div 2 PR nonsense...it is Div 4) having wn 3 games out of 16 so far this season.
  9. I know Hamburg have links with Gers, and this was very rehearsed but funny nonetheless imo
  10. that survey is a load of b*llocks........I had to go all the way to Dingwall to find somewhere that sold inflatable sheep
  11. If I'm honest, and it pains me to be rational, the defending for Owen's goal was woeful. Micah Richards couldn't mark a phone box, he is (and was all last season) clueless about positional play and relies on his pace to get him out of trouble. He is an extremely limited footballer...as spotted by Capello. Owen is too, he's never been able to use his left foot which is terrible considering the clubs he's played for. All a defender has to do is push him onto his left foot and he won't shoot for fear of showing himself up. Yes...I've offered my services as a right-back to Mark Hughes by email this evening. If and when City take up my offer I'll mark my first goal in the EPL by whipping off my City shirt to reveal a Caley Thistle 'TOKELY' one.........***wakes up!***
  12. corrupt officials...... how much do they cost? :sleep01:
  13. well to be fair I hope you feel the same about Utd, Liverpool, Barca etc.....cos they've all done it No they haven't! I din't make it clear to be fair, they've made massive signings by having huge fan bases and massive attendances becuase of a good history. Your Chelsea's and City's have been mediocre sides who've been turned World Class by Billionaires who bankroll new signings and thus buying their way to the top. I don't mean to be disrespectful but do you know what you're saying? Utd hadn't won the title down there from 1967 to 1992 and only did so by floating the club as a plc and using the money to expand the ground and buy a team who could win titles. And now where has their huge fan base and massive attendances taken them? ?700m in debt. It takes 6,000 season ticket holders at Old Trafford just to pay Rio's wages.... the money that funded the club came from shareholders way before the success. Believe me, I may be a Scot but I was taken to Manchester in 1965 and all this unfolded on my doorstep! As for history....apart from 1968 they were not the juggernaut that Sky portrays them. It is one of the myths that annoys me most...that Sky talk about the Premier league as if football didn't exist before 1992
  14. well to be fair I hope you feel the same about Utd, Liverpool, Barca etc.....cos they've all done it
  15. Utd score the winner in the 96th minute...after only 4 minutes of injury time were added Nothing changes....to win at Old Trafford you have to beat Utd then beat the officials.....but I'm not bitter....much
  16. now I may be mistaken (who knows these days eh) but some of them don't look like women to me :)
  17. complete waste of time in my (bitter old time football fan) opinion :) put a computer chip in the ball to see if it crosses the line by all means but otherwise just live with the odd bad decision and as one who's played a bit in my time....one #### on the pitch + 2 linesmen was bad enough, now we've got a 4th offical and 2 more useless officials prowling the goal line
  18. well...it was 30 years ago, times have changed..but when Forest won the European cup the winner was scored by Trevor Francis....at the time the world's first ?1m (less ?1 so the fee wouldn't bother him) player. Clough also paid ?250k for Peter Shilton...which was a hell of a lot for a keeper. Clough was a hell of a manager, I'd have loved to see him go up against Morinho....but his time at Forest ultimately ended in relegation
  19. lol....you have to accept I'm very biased but how do you think Utd, L'pool, Arsenal, Chelsea or for that matter the Old Firm got success? There isn't a club who have won anything who haven't bought a player to make them better. wasn't it hoped Marius would do this? If Caley came about a ?10m windfall should they stick it in the bank and not spend it to help secure promotion? Being a loyal fan of an unsuccessful team is laudable.......but we all like a day in the sun. After nearly 40 years of spending money following a team with little to show for it I'd love a few shiny trophies..at City AND at Caley. In recent years there have been too few 'surprise winners' of trophies. The Old Firm have it sown up here and apart from Pompey winning the FA Cup it's been fairly predictable down south
  20. ....having said the above, I must confess to frequently comparing Gary Neville to various body parts over the years <_< Watch the derby ths Sunday, see the city fans taunting the Utd ones by waving a banner with 'Mancunian Section' on it. Also reminding Rooney that he once said 'once a blue always a blue' about his team Everton. Also remember that at the derby 2 years ago the media were ready to pounce cos they were sure the City fans would disrupt the minutes silence for the Munich tragedy......there was not a word heard from us away fans and even Ferguson applauded us.
  21. nope I must say in years and years of going to City I didn't hear them singing racist stuff.....our old ground (Maine Road) was in Moss Side.....many of the fans were what you'd now refer to as Afro-Caribbean, as were many kids at the academy. Utd attracted the Catholic fans from Manchester and Ireland, before they started being followed by all the glory-hunters from the South. City meanwhile had fans who were from Moss Side and also the Jewish population of the area. We were also too busy booing our own team's shiteness! The worst thing I ever heard them singing was a corner who were adament they wouldn't surrender to the IRA...but I suppose Manchester had just been bombed
  22. I thought the goal celebration was fantastic. Fans were happy to call his mother a whore and remark that his dad washes elephants (slightly racist) and yet when he celebrated scoring they couldn't take it. They need to grow up. Van Persie scored and ran off the pitch to the City fans screaming 'F@ck off you b@satards' at them...they managed not to try to invade the pitch As for the kick on Van Persie....well if he'd slid in on my ankles like that I'd have reacted too, I wouldn't have clipped him in the face, but he wouldn't have had to face any more rape allegations either.......3 match ban is fair enough. It was a great game ruined by trial by media
  23. so you wouldn't subscribe to the idea of them losing 5-0 in the WC final in front of 3 billion people as being funnier ?

    Asda

I'd be delighted to see ASDA in Sneck.......their pizzas and curries are far better than anything Tesco can offer. If however we can get a Sainsburys too, well their own brand Vindaloo is nothing short of superb. I'm sure this info adds to the debate :D
  25. I'll be supporting the team that plays the best football. as that is likely to be Brazil or Spain I won't have to disgrace myself by supporting the England team. This don't forget is the team whose followers happily sing 'are you Scotland in disguise?' when they are murdering teams like Andorra. For that reason I hope they get gubbed. Their players are good but still overrated. For 40 years I lived down there, most of it was great but I still heard plenty of jibes about 'sweaties' because people never guessed I was from up here (ask Caley100...you'd still never guess from my accent!), even some decent people I knew would lapse into tales about Scotland being full of benefit scroungers. The English media is pernicious but thankfully they have had little to really crow about on the football field...lets not change that, it'd be unbearable!
