  1. Brazil won World Cups with it and it has also been used successfully by Santos and Palmeiras. The Hungarians were also big on it too. It's pretty simple really, strong defence + strong attack = success.
  2. Nonsense. I can think of ones that would me far worse. ie - Munro ---- McGuire ---- Proctor ---- Gathuessi
  3. What would your tactics and formations be for the rest of the season? For me it's simple, attacking football at home and a more cautious approach in away games. I believe that you've got to put a team out on the park that is there to score goals for fun, especially in homes and using your best players and at times like this ICT must win every game. If that means playing four striker then so be it. Home For home games my starting formation would be: --------------------------------------------Esson------------------------------------------------------ --------Proctor------------Mihadjuks----------------------Munro/Duff-------------Djebi-Zadi/Hastings---- ----------------------------Tokely---------------------------Black-------------------------------------- --------Morais--------------Rooney--------------------------Foran------------------Imrie--------------- I'm a big believer in attacking football and the 4-2-4 formation. I know that folk on here will look at it and say that it's absolute nonsense but I don't believe in puting up say the 4-4-2 just for the sake of it being popular. Esson in goal as he is the best keeper at ICT right now, Proctor in at right back and he can also double up at right wing when in attack (this formation could also go as a 2-4-4 when in attack as Brazil do/did) and he's also fast enough to keep up with opposition wingers while Tokely is not. Mihadjuks in there at centre-back with either Grant Munro or Jamie Duff in as well. I don't hugely rate Munro and believe that if Duff was to get a good run he could go on to be the next Darren Dods or Bobby Mann. I actually reckon he could well be captain in 6 or 7 years. Djebi Zadi in at left back so he can long runs down the wing and go forward in attack whilst using his pace, though if he's in poor form I'd go along with Hastings in at left back or possibly Roy McBain and if this lot are all injured/garbage then Gathuessi. Tokely in the midfield as I feel he'd do well in this position and if there's two in the midfield then he could be used be make it presense felt, he wouldn't be caught out of position as he does at right back and he'd be able to go forward far more easily and after all he is a great offensive threat. Black in beside as he's a very good playmaker and can make stuff happen in the midfield, I'd also consider Lionel Djebi-Zadi and also Hastings (the latter played in a defensive midfielder sort of role for Canada at the last Gold Cup, in which he did very well and caught into the "Team of the Tournament"). No Duncan as he's a liablity and is terrible at passing and also not someone like McBain either as he's passed his best though I would consider Brian Kerr. Up front it'll be Filipe Morais on the right, Imrie on the left and Foran and Rooney as the inside forwards. Every striker could also rotate and change position to full there markers should they need to. The 4-2-4 is very effective in the way that it puts pressure on every defender provding they play four at the back. If they go with three at the back then they'll be muredered with four up front.. Also if they stay up the park, the opposition team would have to hold their defenders back, if not a couple of midfielders to deal with this. Say the oppoistion plays 4-4-2 then they might have to change it to 5-3-2 or 5-4-1 to deal with this. It would also be a dangerous formation when on the counter attack. Also if there is any hoofing then there is far more people to aim at up the park but ICT have always been a better team when the balls played on the deck, the pitch is even built that way to encourage passing to the wings. Far more strikers mean more goals and you'd see far more exciting play and scorelines like 3-2 and 5-4 would still keep ICT in the SPL. Away Away from home I'd take a more cautious approach: -------------------------------------------------Esson------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------Mihadjuks---------------Duff-----------------Hastings/Munro------------------------------------ ---Morais-------------------Black----------------Tokely----------------Duncan/Djebi-Zadi------------------Vigurs---------- ----------------------------Foran------------------------------------------Rooney---------------------------------------- A 3-5-2 will crowd them midfield and hopefully also able to gring out a result away from home by crowding the midfield, with big players of Djebi-Zadi and Tokely could be used effectively in the midfield could crowd out opposition players and by using their presense. This of course was the formation Steve Paterson was very keen and look how popular his style of play was. Keeping the ball on the deck again to hopefully get the ball the front two. This formation could also adjust to 5-4-1 should it need to. Old Firm For the Old Firm games ugly football's got to be used. I'd go with something like: ------------------------------------------------Esson------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------Proctor------------Mihadjuks--------------------Munro/Duff--------------Hastings/Djebi-Zadi----------------- ---Morais-----------------------Tokely-------------------------Black----------------------Vigurs/Foran------------------ -------------------------------------------------Imrie------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------Rooney/Foran------------------------------------------------------------- Crowd out the midfield and a strong defence means containing Celtic and Rangers. Rangers seem to concede a lot of goals against ICT in the last minute so possibly go on heavy attack towards the end of the game if it is a score draw at that point. I'll stop here cause if I go on this'll probably need covers and chapters but this is what I'd do if I were ICT manager. But what would you do?
  4. The reason I caled it a "loyalist" march is because that is what it went under the by the Inverness Courier. It's true what Birdog says that they have the right to do whatecer they damn well please as long as it's peaceful and doesn't attract the regular Rangers-loving nuts but I wouldn't really want to have anything to do with them. These groups are small and getting smaller and I be surprised that even by 100 years time these marches and loyalist/religious whatever shananigans you want to call it will have pretty much disappeared.
  5. what makes you think they can score against elgin or inverness ladies??? lol How a bout a "friendly" against County? At least lionel could get a game and I'm sure the boys would relish facing Brewster. Of course they wouldn't try to hurt his shoulder, honest! You mean like that Clach game a few months ago that was played in one half with two keepers!
  6. Here's a classic from Sophia on the Dean McDonald thread, God knows what she was on about: Welcome to the Highlands of Scotland, the most beautiful part of the British Isles. I hope your stay here is long and fruitful for both you and the club that you will play for. As none of us know your father you will have to understand that you will start from a very low base, lets say -72. If we did have some knowledge of your paternal heritage you would probably start from, oh about -27. Don't be too concerned by the lack of initial respect. You will find that if work hard you will soon run into the positive until ........ well perhaps you would want to ask Stuart Golabeck what the reaction was to his display on the 1st game of last season. kencar, that is the most cynical post I have read today!
  7. Queensland is a state of Australia and this is their new A League team.
  8. I see the loyalists are having another Sneck march. Doesn't that sound great! I used to be dead against these marches but I've changed my mind. I reckon these folks should be allowed to march in Inverness, once again towards the Portland Club, but I don't think they should stop there, they should just go right past it and straight into the Firth! And here's another thing why are these marches going on but there is no "Inverness Mardi Gras"? Just imagine the outrage from the wee religious folks if this was going to happen.
  9. He's just signed for North Queensland Fury, who have also just signed Robbie Fowler.

It's also interesting to note that a lot of the ICT "legends" if you will have started pretty slowly. Wyness was put on the transfer list by Pele and then started knocking them in for fun, Dargo knocked in 20 in one season but was pretty dire when he first came, Robson was pretty useless too apparently and look at him now. Will the same thing happen with Lionel? Time will tell.
  13. I'd go with: ---------------------------------------Imrie------------------------------------ -----------------Rooney---------------------------------Foran---------------- Rooney and Foran with Imrie sitting just behind. Morais could replace Rooney but he'd be better off using his pace on the wings, with Vigurs at left wing. But I agree that a proven striker who can knocking him in for fun is needed in the summer. Butcher might be able to do this by getting someone from the lower English leagues in.

What IHE is does is very simple. He pulls something out of his backside, eats it and then spews it out through the realms of the internet and by taking it in and taking seriously is our way is our way of eating it. And really who wants to eat something that came out of IHE's backside? Hastings usually is pretty consistent. Considently eh poor.
  15. This reminds me of a quote I say in the programme last season when Iain Vigurs called Duncan the best player in the SPL! Oh how I laughed. But it is true that Duncan breaks up the play from the opposition......................then gives it straight back to them. Time to bench him, this poster says.
  16. Where does everyone think that tactical aspect of football will go in the future. In the past, it was very much centred on attacking play with formations like the 1-1-8 and gradually it's got more and more defensive with the 4-4-2 being brought in and punting balls up the park. But where will it go from here? Will football move even more defensive, will new tactics be come with things like punts from wing to wing? Will we ever see the wing half and inside forwards brought back? Some say that what Man U are doing with the 4-6-0 formation is the way forward, other say armed formations will become more popular. What do you think?
  17. Is that grafitti bloke Banksy a artistic political genius or just a vandal?
  18. Absolutely right
  19. On the whole, a cup defeat doesn't really bother me. This season it's the league that matters. In fact I would happily never go further than the opening round of the cup if it meant that SPL status was guaranteed for next season.

Oh another Lionel related post, fancy that.
  21. Can someone please tell me what Duncan brings to the ICT team? I don't think he's anything special myself.

It'll be interesting to see how well Hastings does when Lionel is out. Last time I saw him a few months back he didn't look like the player he once was. He looked a bit passed it and didn't seem to be too keen on making his usual forward runs and crossing from the edge of the box as he once did. As he been kept out the team in recent times he'll have to put in some performance for Butcher to play him infront of Lionel and also the likes of McBain and Gathuessi who can also play left-back as well as having to show he good enough to keep for next season, especially with the return of Richie Byrne (who may or may not be any good). Perhaps a good performance by Richard Hastings could mean an improvement from Lionel Djebi-Zadi as well as I reckon they'll both be fighting it out for that place from here till the end of the season.
  23. Are you Craig Brewster? :thumb04: Now now no need to start throwing insults! Brew would never go with something as attacking as this.
  24. Change it around a bit I reckon: -----------------------------------------Esson------------------------------------------ ---------------Mihadjuks----------------Duff----------------Hastings------------------ ------------------------------------------Tokely---------------------------------------- ----Morais-----------------------------------------------------------------Vigurs------ ------------------------------------------Black------------------------------------------ -----------------Rooney-----------------Foran----------------Wood------------------ Subs - Fraser, Munro, Odhiambo, McBain, Barrowman/Kerr, Imrie, Proctor
  25. About as long as it takes IHE to find a computer. And that'll be a never ending cycle of boredom. I apologise fer getting it spot feckin on again - what happened to yer avatar and yer signature - Whos a saddie ? :thumb04: For your information I was actually asked my a moderator to take it down due after there was complaints that the picture was "too big".
