  1. Tahiti are rated well down here in NZ. They would easily beat the sorry excuse Scotland has for a football team nowadays. In fact if Scotland were in the Oceania Group they would come last.
  2. Come on lads lets keep up the blind optimism that we the Scottish national team supporters are renowned for. Lets not give up after a couple of trifling defeats to mediocre opposition. Lets continue to wallow, as usual, in our triumph of hope over experience approach to the Scottish team. It has stood us in good stead for over 20 years now and should last us another 20 years at least. It also provides such great entertainment for so many people around the world to see such blind faith in operation, game after game after game after game. If you feel yourself getting a little bit down you can always sing the following ditty to yourself ( inspiration for it was taken from the time of one of our greatest displays on the world footballing stage ) - "We'er on the road with Gordies Army, we'er all going to Russia, and we'll really shake them up, when we win the World Cup, Cos Scotland is the greatest football team". Keep singing the last line of the song to yourself for about a year and you will find yourself believing in the team again, easy. Och Aye the Noo !
  3. Surely if we win all our remaining games we can still qualify for Brazil in 2014 ! And if we qualify there is always the chance that we could win the thing. We have such great talent and a great team and Manager how can we fail. Bring back Ally McLeod if all else fails. He knew the power of positive thinking.
  4. This is all good stuff! Renato Turriani was a Jaggie, and in fact was one of the committee members named as defenders by Martin Ross in his ultimately unsuccessful legal action against the old Jags in 1994-95. Then, as I remember, Renato was also for a short time involved with ICT and briefly looked after the catering and pie stalls. And Dougie... yes the old supermarket cafes in the days when they served real food! I think Liptons was the first in the late 60s, but like yourself I had a particular preference for Safeways off Academy Street - both the cafe and the shop. For a few years I used to do both my mother's and our own family food shopping there after one of their excellent breakfasts which included an uncooked tomato since I don't like cooked ones. I have to say that no supermarket in Inverness has since matched Safeways. Their successor Morrisons is the best of what we have, although the queues are too slow, and well ahead of Tesco and Asda, welcome though Asda is as competition for Tesco. Similarly the Morrisons cafe is "OK", albeit a bit slow with the service, but still well ahead of Tesco and Asda which often verge on the pitiful. I too was going to mention the Serifinis and the Locarno Cafe on Academy Street. I also remember a Dorandos Cafe - where was that again? There was also Victor and Nick Fornari's father who had a Ladies hairdressing business on Academy Street almost next door to the Locarno Cafe.
