  1. Caley D in response to my post on 28th Sept. ref. setting up a poll and establishing a Caley Thistle Scorecard (i.e. what constitutes success for ICT for people on this site ). You indicated you thought it was worth exploring when things calmed down for you. What are the chances of doing something? I think it is worth doing now more than ever given the wild'ly differing levels of expectation from posters recently.
  2. Reading all the recent topics and posts on Brewster and his management prowess gets me wondering what are the characteristics/attributes that make for a good or great football manager. Does Brewster have any of them? What is he missing?
  3. Single - Can't Buy Me Love - Beatles Album - Wizz Jones - by Wizz Jones ( after seeing him live at a show in town) Wizz must be one of the most under-rated musicians ever. Great guitarist and great songwriter.
  4. Someone from Inverness is called an Invernessian. What do you call someone from the Sneck? A Snecker? A Sneckessian? A Sneckonian? A Sneckite?
  5. I returned to the Sneck 2 years ago after an absence of about 11 years ( have been back again once again earlier this year) and one of the biggest changes that struck me right away me was the growth in all the greenery around the Town - for example- the hedge at the first Tee of Culcabok Golf Club. You used to be able to stand behind the hedge and watch people Tee-Off down the first fairway. The hedge would have been about chest high at the most. Nowadays the hedge must be about 10 - 12 foot high. Same goes for lots of other trees and greenery around the town. What were once saplings are now tall trees. What were once small bushes are now massive hedges. Unusual I know, but that was the change that struck me most. The centre of the town although changed, still felt very much like the Inverness of old. It was only once you got beyond the old town boundaries into the new built up areas that it felt different. However, given that it is still peopled mainly by Invernessians it still maintains that unique Inverness community feel. May it never be lost.
  6. If I cant get Keiths, I will usually opt for Stella or Molson Canadian (I dont touch Labatts). When shopping at the Beer Store or LCBO (Beer Store just sells beer, LCBO is like an off license - they dont sell alcohol in supermarkets over here), Scotty, I lived in Toronto for three years ( Bathurst/St Clair). LCBOs - what a memory. Whoever designed the LCBO system must have been a Wee Free. They all seemed to be located in the most awkward places to get to. Usually across a major highway and three blocks away from the supermarket that you shopped in. It was always a major inconvenience to get booze in Toronto or anywhere else in Canada and still is when I go back and visit. Great country but crap booze distribution. Met a wine grower here in New Zealand who had to front up in person in Canada to the one guy who buys all the wine for LCBO. What a job, what power. Hope he has a good taste in wine. By the way with regard to Labbatts Beer. In the mid Nineties I was Skiing at Whistler and this guy gets onto the Ski lift with me and starts talking - Inverness accent! Had been in Canada 20 years and was now Operations Director for Labbatts. We discovered he went to the High school with my older sister and used to come to our house for parties. He grew up in a house opposite Culcabock Golf Course. His parents were still there at the time. His old man used to run a shop in Eastgate- an Ironmongers or something like that.
  7. Living in Auckland means that I miss out on easy access to some great British Beers ( although the Kiwis can and do brew some pretty good stuff over here ). The one beer I miss the most is Theakstons Old Peculiar - on tap ( Plumbers Arms, Victoria, London and many other places I'm sure ). Have tasted some beers around the world that come close but not as good. What's the World's best beer? Old Peculiar gets my vote! And the World's worse beer has to be - a Bud !
  8. 1. Lord of the Rings - Trilogy 2. The Longest Day 3. National Lampoon Christmas Vacation ( if you have not seen get it - hilarious ) 4. The Third Man 5. Lawrence of Arabia Tempted to put in Greyfriars Bobby - first film I ever saw at the old Playhouse many moons ago. My kids today love it!
  9. NO! The Staff Sergeant cap was always worn straight ! Spoken like a true Staff Sergeant, Jock. Our St. Sgt. in the Second Co. always wore his at a slight angle. Maybe that is why we always lost the marching competitions.
  10. Around 2001 my nephew in Melbourne had a bedroom full of trophies and medals with ribbons from the school teams and sport clubs he had played for. Must have been around fifty items in all. Mostly for football, cricket, basketball and Aussie Rules. I said it must have been amazing to play in so may winning and successful teams. He said that the teams he had played for had never won anything or even got to a single final. All the trophies, medals and paraphernalia he had received had been for competing !!!!
  11. It seems to me that most of the difference of opinion on this site amounst posters about the team and the manager's performance is the result of wildly differing levels of expectation for success for this season and future seasons. What we need is an agreed Caleythistle Performance Scorecard for this season ( I am sure Brewster has one already - does anyone know what it is?) that states what constitutes success for us. Can one of the Moderators set up a poll or survey of opinion ( I don't know how to do it) that we can all respond to and thus create a Scorecard? The Scorecard would be the average of all our responses. If you respond then you agree to abide by the resulting Scorecard. The poll could collect responses on various measures e.g.: * position in league half way through season and at seasons end; * competing for last six or in last six; * cup runs - Quarters, Semis, Finalists or even Winners? * getting into Europe; * number of away wins or draws; * number of goals for and against; * beating the OF; * increase in number of attendances at home; * making a good profit so we can buy new players; * etc. etc. etc. I am sure you get the idea. Performance scorecards are pretty common in sport, business and even dare I say in Teaching ( I am sure Charles would have something to say about that). What do you say Moderators? Can we give it a go? :thumb04:
