  1. I would tend to agree with that statement, but I fear the mental and physical damage is already done and he is far too far along to get back on the straight and narrow. Even Butcher seems to acknowledge that as he says he considered offering him a role but then rejected it (reluctantly it would seem). Gazza was a great player but like many great players, flawed. In his case, I think he was too easily led astray by strong characters around him (both professionally and personally) throughout his career (and after), and didnt have any self control. In football terms, his appointment in any role, and at pretty much any club, would probably be seen as a joke ! It would become a circus, a distraction as everyone would be waiting for him to **** it up again ! Off the field, I have heard it said many times that he is/was a genuine down to earth guy and one who would not do you wrong if he could do you right. His heart always seemed to be in the right place, even if his over exuberance on occasions led to him getting in trouble (thinking the flute episode and the carding the ref incident) Reading that article, it is obvious that Terry knows him extremely well from Rangers and England, and knows about his good points, but is literally shaking his head at how sad his life has now become. If anyone could be a strong role model for him that he would respect and listen to it might be Terry, if any area of the country might calm him down or allow him to relax it might be the Highlands .... but it would be a hell of a risk and something that might end with more than just Gazza's tears ! Butcher left Ibrox six years before PG arrived. Someone will benefit from PG's footballing brain eventually, whether the time is right for it now, or in a year, it will happen. It is also what he needs. Otherwise, he will just end up another jinky, jim baxter or bestie, heaven forbid. And I also read on this thread that he was taken on by some bad influences in his career. Sometimes Gazza was the bad influence, as players such as Charlie Miller & Sandy Robertson will be well aware of by now.
  2. You obviously haven't read up on JJ then, and his wife beating antics, and GB who treated his woman like sh!t on the bottom of his shoe. Whilst intentionally drinking hiself into an early grave, whi;e PG has done nothing but try to sort his self out. Gazza has shown in the last 11 months he can be back to his old self. When it comes to the wife beating bit, it was a one off, one too many granted, however there are both sides to either story. Do you not find it strange his ex wife, and her daughter(nothing to do with PG) still use his surname? I think that should tell you all you need to know about those women.
  3. ?10 for adults yesterday & ?5 for juveniles against an old local rival. I was ashamed to be Inverness at the game yesterday. Our home support is an embarrassment to be honest. Maybe the singing sections should go ahead ASAP, as we are a laughing stock, and if Elgin had came away with the win yesterday,. it would have been well merited. They were the one's who had the 12thman, not us... A poor show all round.
  4. This is deffo worth a watch if you missed it, only available till the 30th Dec i think it is.. Sheridan made a mockery of the party, i know who i believe, and its the 16, not the 4.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00xp4ps/The_Rise_and_Lies_of_Tommy_Sheridan/
  5. Are you sure about that? Threepence for a cigarette..... and an extra ha'penny for a match! By the way, I think Caley Mad in Berks may be of a vintage before the "sweet shop" he refers to belonged to Frankie Jew and was run by an old guy called Tom Galloway. I think Frank took over in about 1965. (Sorry if you're younger than I thought CMIB!) For the benefit of the long term disapora, these premises have for many years now been a gents' barber. That's the one. I am talking about 81ish to 87 so a bit after you guys. Another outstanding memory of the shop was his 'open all hours' window display of a perfect triangle of large size Heinz soup tins, which if you looked close enough from inside, you would see, he had pierced every tin to empty the contents before making this artistic window show.. Another one - Calfs(sic) van. Known all over the town, and where you could get 10fags as an 8yr old with a badly written note..:) The old market on a Sunday at falcon square..
  6. Frankie Jews,. I used to get ma single cigs there at lunch time from school. He would only serve you them when the shop was empty though,. would deny all knowledge if there was an adult customer in.. He was no jew though, he was an elder in the Methodist church come Sunday, selling single cigarettes to schoolkids through the week..
  7. Indeed. Too many folk on here and at the games more concerned with the behaviour of others than the game itself. Every club has people who follow it who may not be 'PC' if you like. We're no different. I know a few personally who like to shout and swear at games, myself included (although the majority is directed at the ref and the opposing players), it's the norm at games and it isn't going to go away. If you don't like difference of opinion or shouting and swearing at games, football really isn't for you. I couldn't have put it better myself. When i was first taken to the football, it was a lot of what is was about. The working class man letting of some steam after a hard week, if that was by telling a player, he wasn't having the best of games, so be it. It's part & parcel of the game, and it always will be. The players who played for peanuts got it & took the criticism, surely our overpaid premadonas of the day should be thick skinned enough to handle it. Same goes with the banter with the away fans, am sure the Jambos who were getting it, were giving it back just as good. That's why they get ST's for that part of the stadium, to banter with away fans. Am sure it entertained their day too. Football has changed some, as a fan, that i can admit, but their is still a bit of the way it was & Tynecastle away is one of the best places to find this..
  8. There is a Northern Ireland hearts supporters club that goes over to every home & most away games. I wouldn't think for a minute thats who takes the Red Hand to Tynie though.. Ulster Hearts they are called iirc..
  9. Ahahaha, i take it that is in jest.. And mantis, i have the disc of all issues here, but it aint as good as the original copies..
  10. Do you wear an apron at work? Eh? Pieman, obviously not. If thats a deliberate dig about my weight i reckon thats bang out of order to be honest Certainly looks that way. awful to be honest.
  11. Took me a while, oops there it goes..
  12. Buenos of That Ilk. A "prominent" Caley Rebel who posted on here for some time under that name. A "life long" Caley fan who, when taken to task for throwing the Chic Allan Trophy into the river, was alleged to have asked "So who was Chic Allan anyway?" I've spoken to him, and he is actually laughing at you, as he knows he's got under your skin. As c'mon Charles, you do seen like a tad pathetic on this. You have mentioned him what 3 or is it 4 times in this thread?.. Let's face it, the merger ended up a bit of a money spinner for you with AAO.. i do believe it is you who needs to move on now.
  13. l see there is also an old Caley V Thistle programme on, Classy Caley Programme!
  14. I knew him from his county days. He went out wi a lass i was in school with and may still be with her for all i know, met him a few times when they were out together, and he always seemed a decent guy too. always had time to speak, and that was before he was at Caley..
  15. For anyone who may be interested there are a few on just now. Issue 2 being the one am after as I have all the others, bar 1 & 2.. 2 aint in the best of nick by the looks of it, but there are another few up also, of later editions look decent. For the younger & newer fans, On A Life Support Machine, was the old Caledonian fanzine from our HL days.. E Bay, LSM's
  16. What was being sung by our fans that was offensive? "HIV capital" could be taken offensively. Hmm, fair point actually. It's more a cheeky wee jibe at Edinburgh being the Gay Capital in the country and HIV being associated with homosexuality. I suppose some people could find offence in it though, but that would mean they're gay themselves surely.. Most of it's just cheeky wee digs though, it's not as if many of us take offense when labelled Sheep Sh*ggers by opposing fans. I hear you. BUT We are not sheep shaggers its funny cause its not true. But edinburger fans do have aids. Offensive I think old Granville in his day would have begged to differ.
  17. In the mid to late 80's Cheers bar was at the bottom of Stephens Brae.. Next to the aptly named rumbles, the local late night boxing/fast food outlet.. Still remember winning on the National with Little Polviere in 89ish and watching it in there.
  18. Correct Wrong, Jock never retired, he fell out with the Rangers board because he allegedly wanted to finally sign Catholics, and he then left to take the Leicester job before retuning via Motherwell in 83 to lead Rangers to the League Cup win over Celtic & a hat trick for a certain Mr McCoist.
  19. He lost 3 front teeth and broke his jaw in 2 places, if my reports were correct.. Went for a 50/50 with Kane Hemmings and got a knee in the face. He's not doing too well by all accounts. Stuck in the southern general and getting an op this morning.
  20. Your doing well with the old Caley shirt. considering you just bought it of e bay for ?60 just before xmas. i know someone who is raaaaaging..
  21. Cheers for that admin. It was a quick log on & post before i left the flat, when rfw called, & as i have just found out, it wouldnt have made any difference if he hadnt made it..
  22. Putting in reffinweed's tip for today as he is on phone and cant make a pc. Clyde v Ross Couty, Draw..
  23. Experienced! He's been sacked from more jobs than i've had hot dinners.. The man is desperate to get into work, fair play their, but it would be the totally wrong appointment at this time of the season. If it was the end of May, i may have had a litle more faith in Ossie, but what is needed at this moment in time is someone with a knowledge of the SPL, & Scottish football in general, to guide the team of the bottom of the league. I couldnt currently see Ardiles being this man.
