Inverness CT -V- Aberdeen
Personally, I was supporting Inverness Thistle. A number of us more mature posters supported either Thistle or Caley but who we supported in the eighties is not important what is important is that now we all support the current Scottish Cup holders. Remind us, when did the 'Famous Aberdeen' last win the most important domestic cup competition ?

These fans rightly get praise for the atmosphere and enthusiasm they bring but there is no place for aggression and violence. We are a friendly family club, we have generally friendly and positive relations with visiting fans and when we visit. Entertaining chants are one thing but mindless violence and aggression is quite another and, quite apart from being criminal conduct which these people would not engage in elsewhere, needs to be stamped out.

Maybe the Dons are hosting an open air concert of Tansey's favourite band in July.....

What a contrast to the very fair and reasonable Doninpeace. Collum did what Collum does but you were beaten by a far better and more committed team on the night. Dry your eyes and get over it. 'Fans' like you are the reason not everyone on here seems to want the Dons to win the league.

Penalty-kick taker?
I don't know if the stats back it up (that's one for Sneckboy) but my impression is that Tansey is our most reliable spot kick taker since Paul Sheerin who's only miss that I can recall was the kinda important one in the Challenge Cup final shoot out.

Semi Final Formats
I have posted this in the ICT Forum rather than general football as I am delighted to say that national semi finals have become of increasing direct relevance to us in the past few years and, with any luck, could well be again this season. Whilst generally a traditionalist, I think the time has come to consider the semi finals of both the Scottish Cup and the League Cup being switched to two legged affairs. If it's good enough for the Champions League, The Copa del Rey and the English League Cup it could well be good enough for us. I see a number of advantages; Firstly, there is fairness to the club and supporters. In the last three seasons we have been forced to play cup semi finals against clubs in their home cities. It's to our great credit that we won two out of three of these but the fans were still out of pocket, the team disadvantaged and our numbers reduced to about 3,000 albeit 3,000 who made themselves sound like three times as many. This season already, both St Johnstone and County have been obliged to play semi final opponents at 'neutral' venues in their opponent's back yards. I am sure that there will be revenue advantages too, grounds are likely to be full or at least fuller. I know we struggle with crowds but I have little doubt that we would fill the Main and North stands and maybe even the wee West stand for a semi final on our home turf and whoever we play is likely to cram the South Stand for such an occasion. There would be two extra prestigious games to sell to TV and tournament sponsors and the proceeds could, as now, be pooled between all four participants and both TV and sponsors would much prefer full stadia rather than the sight of Hampden barely half full even when Celtic are involved. The final advantage is that the National Stadium would be kept for finals which would make those occasions even more special and unique than they already are.

Sixth Place IMPERATIVE
Relegation battles are entertaining. If we had beaten or even drawn with Falkirk in ours the cheers at the TCS would have been just as loud and heartfelt as the magic afternoon we beat St Johnstone to secure our first promotion to the SPL....Not that any of us were certain that we were going up that day...

To be fair he's a fan of Aberdeen and makes no secret of it. I much prefer that to pundits and journalists who support one or other of the Old Firm but pretend to follow St Mirren or the like.....and, in further fairness to Richard Gordon, he hasin the past made similar comments about Peter Pawlet.

Sixth Place IMPERATIVE
I believe what it tells us is that, despite those pundits and journalists who love to knock our domestic game, the Premiership is a highly competitive and entertaining league faring well despite being undervalued by SKY and the BBC and continuing to have no representation from Govan.

A very sporting and fair post and although we were the better team and deserved to win on merit, tonight you were the victims of Collum's incompetence. You have my sympathy because it has often been us. A tough ask for you now but I sincerely hope you only lose one more game this season and go on to give the whole of Scottish football a boost by winning te title. Who knows, we may even do you a favour by taking a point or three from Parkhead on Saturday...

A well deserved and very useful three points against the league's form team. Follow that up with at least a point from Parkhead on Saturday and it will be the best week of the season so far. Sometimes critical of him but credit to the manager tonight forgetting his team selection and tactics spot on.

History would suggest that, as far as Aberdeen are concerned, we are something of a feeder club. We may not like it but it's the harsh commercial reality. The real story is not that we lose players to the likes of Aberdeen but our history of replacing players departing for the east with those of similar quality.

Welcome back Donin.....I do think it will be a tricky game for you and we have every chance of interrupting your title challenge. Although I'm not convinced that Yogi's comments on the eve of the match saying that you are unlikely to maintain your title challenge were particularly cleverly timed. That said, I sincerely hope that you then go on to win the title. Someone other than one of the Bigot brothers winning the league would be the (second) best thing to happen to Scottish football for decades.

Sixth Place IMPERATIVE
Top six would obviously good but I regard that, as always as a bonus rather than being imperative. What is imperative is to stay out of the bottom two places. We did well to bounce straight back up last time but even then the financial toll was considerable. We are now an established top tier club with all the financial commitments of one. The imperative thing is to keep it that way. Anything more than that, as I said, is a bonus.

Scottish Cup 2016 - our defence of the trophy!
The SFA should compel the TV companies to select their matches within 48 hours of the draw and just take their chance with replays. As wellas fans being able to make travel arrangements it might spread the TV money about a bit more evenly.

Scottish Cup Draw
Lucky you. I very often stay in Premier Inns and have never bumped into the comedic knight once....odd since he seems so fond of them...

I entirely agree with Roughie. I doubt that there is a single one of us who believes we are capable of doing the manager's job better than him but, as football fans who support the team through thick and thin we are entitled to offer constructive comment. This site would be a very dull place indeed if it became merely a John Hughes Appreciation Society with the occasional snide dig at club legends for having the temerity to sometimes question our style of play.... For the avoidance of doubt, the comment about not believing we could do a better job than the manager does not apply to Craig Brewster towards the end of his second spell......

I can accept that the player may not have wanted to come, appreciate that his wage demands might have been beyond us but, given our lack of cover up front, I find it very surprising an quite disappointing that a player who is still relatively young, who has a proven record of scoring in our league, who has played very successfully under the manager before and who was available did not even register on Yogi's radar. Does he need a new radar system ?
