  3. I see from the BBC web site that CC is looking to Eastern Europe to bolster the squad, I live in Latvia where the wages are abysmal, but they have some good players , CC might look there as well
  4. Does anyone remember when last season I got excited about ICT coming to Latvia, well as you all know it never happened and a team from the South dicked Daugvapils, I lost interest after that. The Inter Toto over here is BIG, but guess you , if you enter will be playing Skonto FC ,as they are having a better season, with mainly a Russian team. They are reasonably good, but I have a small question.... WHY BOTHER!!!!!! as someone said win the cup !!!

I remember a local group playing with Shane Fenton at the empire , lending them their new VOX amp and they blew it, said thanks and did a F Oscar Does anyone remember the other groups who p[layed the Empire, Fortunes, Johnny Mike / shades. Barron knights, ok showing my age but John Worth brought some great groups there and gave stage time to all the local groups like tge Wildcats Flock, Accents, Size Four, and where are they all now Charles might have the answer, I also remember Marek and the Mobsters anyone else?????
  6. As your Latvian fan, can Charlie tell the team the game is not over till, the final whistle goes, to my memory twice we have lost in extra time... what a difference that would have made to the league placings. Or am I wrong

I too remember the Old playing fields David Thom telling us we could run faster, and Colin B strutting around telling us we were crap and if we got beaten next game , wait and see! however my fondest memories were of the girls hostel, those accents did it for me, often came home , well nearly always with grass marks on my knees
  10. In my youth I used to ring the bell at the Crown, that was the trouble of living in hill street, keep these memories coming , I do enjoy reading and reliving old memories

Gosh this thread brings back so many memories, I too remember the wee white card, and the wire baskets and the doors on the changing room where you could practice Limbo peering to your hearts content. I remember the finger test as well. I too nearly drowned in that pool and was pulled out by an attendant who lived in Hill Street. One day in a hurry I raced home with a towel from the baths and went round to his house and asked if he could take it back for me. He said , do you want to save your life twice?? Does anyone remember the Bovril served in the kiosk upstairs, can't remember the mans name but he had a moustache and I think english. Didn't we have a diving champion from Inverness? Brian ??

To go back to the dreaded York Ward, I remember being dropped off and then left, I felt abandoned, Then as I have read, I too met a doctor with a different colour face, thought I was in ****, what have my parents done to me I thought.   13. I can remember going to the Playhouse when there was a sort of Premiere, Jon Whitley et all was a film about two boys in Scotland. That was years ago anyone remember??

Gosh do I remember the rolls in the Locarno, was he called Renzo?I remember the girls there Olga I remember and Maggie, Who Chas had the chip shop on the east side of Eastgate I remember it was an Italian family,l and the chip shop was next to a SHOP but was ownwed by them all and the guy who run the chip shop was at one time a hairdresser, dimensure going away
  17. He wore a grey polyester coat as well, in that shop, I had a friend who lived near his shop and because he was close to the school, was tasked with ringing the bell at the Crown each school morning, sorry if I am boring but it brings back such innocent memories
  18. My mother came over that rickety bridge with ice cream for my after my dreaded op... by the time she arrived it was melted. God I hated that place though, it was so intimidating and the Sister on the ward I was in, was so nasty to the staff, nowadays with pc etc, ?????
  19. Yes saw the old postcard and it brought back memories. Used to practice drumming for the BB's there I wasn't in the 4th rather the 3rd led by a teacher from the Royal Academy, Thom was his surname we were scared to ask him his real name ,but I have it on good authority it was Hugh. I used to go to the Crown School and there was a sweet shop at the bottom of Hill Street, across from the school where we got gobstoppers to last the lessons. As for the Ironmongers yes I do remember and have a memory of going downstairs with my Dad who wanted an item, and they had lots of little drawers with knick knacks in them and sure enough they had it all for the princely sum of 2p, they wore brown coats as well I remember
  20. Re' spelling, true, but thought it looked right at the time!! I saw a photo of old Eastgate, which showed the alleway where the Boys Brigade hall was. Now if my dimensure has declined was that not where the football times was printed in a press below it . I remember waiting for copies and rushing them to a shop in the Hill district and then delivering them after being sorted. Now is /are my memories correct... Anyone!!!
  21. Great , at least not suffering from dimmensure yet!! Does anyone remember the old Empire theatre manager was John Worth.. a man before his time, he brought so many things to the theatre, wrestling, Bridie Gallagher, when she was sober, I seem to remember a magician who had a lady undress in a box. I also remember music nights when John got musicians who were working for Albert Bonici the promoter from Elgin, to do a few numbers before travelling to Strath Thurso etc .. anyone remember Johnny Mike and the Shades, they got enrolled a few times. When in Weymouth in Dorset I met Duke Demond of the Barron Nights(this is for the oldys on here) and he remembers the old Empire very well as he did Nairn Town hall and the Assembly Rooms in Wick, and they are still going .. same line up but a wee bit slower

Does anyone remember the mad dash to the Heathmount after an Thistle home match, the Aberdeen imported players usually arrived for a quick drink before legging it to the station to catch the train home. Boots in bag along with a carry out I remember the place being packed. The barman was Jimmy ? Cameron I think
  23. Spot on... Sizes Dad, was a driving instructor, taught me to drive but didn't tell me about emergency stops on Ardconnel Street in winter time, still passed though
  24. For me the Crown near Mario Bernadios shop I remember they had lots of whisky on the shelves (I got as far as 7 and went to Marios as I knew my Dad usually was there on a Friday he was and carried me up the Mareket steps
