Raith Rovers -V- Inverness CT - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
After last weeks break from league business, it is back to the bread and butter of winning points this weekend.
The clubs had mixed fortunes in the cup, ICT matched Killie in all departments but lost 3-0, whilst Raith were devastated by a Dons goal deep in injury time that meant their game goes to a replay.

They'll be dancing on the streets of Raith ..... After last weeks break from league business, it is back to the bread and butter of winning points this weekend. The clubs had mixed fortunes in the cup, ICT matching Killie in all departments except putting the ball in the net, which resulted in a rather flattering 3-0 win for the hosts. The ICT fans were unperturbed as they directed their angst towards the man they believed had eaten all the Killie pies, Jimmy Calderwood. A forty two minute plus injury time rendition of "Jimmy says aye to the Killie pie" accompanied by a conga or two kept the fans in good spirits despite the exit from the competition. Raith meanwhile were on the verge of causing a big cup upset as they led Aberdeen far into injury time before being pegged back. An absolutely superb Iain Williamson strike was cancelled out by Gary McDonalds suspiciously offside last gasp scrambler deep into time added on. So a replay it is but Raith had more than matched the Dons and were a great advert for the first division. They also had a healthy crowd of 7045 to soak up the afternoon’s enthralling entertainment, however, no dancing in the streets of Raith yet. This season Inverness have won both of the league games so far, winning 0-1 at Starks Park in mid October and 1-0 in Inverness before Xmas. At Starks, Inverness had to rely on a late David Proctor strike to take all three points after a see saw tussle where both sides had opportunities to impress. However, in Inverness, there was only one team in the game as the Highlanders scored an emphatic victory in all but the scoreline. This game was played out in constant mist with the extremities of the park only visible from the centre circle. Inverness had millions of chances but the only taker was Adam Rooney who scored from one of the more difficult angles of the day. Since we last met, Inverness have been on a good run although the weather has limited both clubs appearances. Out of the four league games since then, we are unbeaten with two wins and two draws. Beating Partick with a late Rooney penalty was a boost for us and the same man scored from the spot at Airdrie to secure the points. Draws with Dunfermline and Dundee were not unexpected. Rooney has scored in three of the four games during this run. Highlight for Inverness during this period was the comprehensive Cup victory over SPL form team Motherwell, conversely, the defeat at Killie was the low point. A more settled Inverness has seen the club claw their way to third at the moment, but with the snow and ice causing havoc with the fixture list the league positions will take a while to even themselves out. Raith like Inverness have been inconsistent and a clutch of home matches has seen them draw with bottom club Airdrie, lose to other relegation candidates Morton yet beat Partick Thistle. They are probably sick of seeing Airdrie as they played them twice in the Scottish Cup as well, eventually winning 3-1. The big one for Raith though was the splendid showing against Aberdeen and they will now have their sights set on the replay at Pittodrie. This seesaw season has seen Raith slip to the middle of the table although they would appear to be the last of the top clubs still hoping for the Dundee bubble to burst. Dundee's Bubble is slowly but surely leaking and all the teams will be hoping to take advantage of this. There is definitely seepage at the top and a number of clubs are still interested in promotion. Our close friends over the bridge look to be the ones leading the chase and could go three points clear by winning their games in hand. Queens have four games to play catch up, which would see them overtake Dundee by a point. We are only two games behind Dundee which would see us four points adrift of them with a possible six points still to play for between the teams. Partick seem to be the worst placed of the top seven teams, but with Dundee looking none too convincing in their last four league outings it's still all up for grabs. Airdrie and County have been to Dens and won without conceding and only a late Griffiths goal saw them overcome the Pars 3-2. They also came from behind to salvage a point at QoS, similarly coming from behind against Ayr in the cup to eventually progress 2-1, and Jocky Scott is now issuing a rallying cry to his troops. The John Bull repair kit is out at Dens, can they get the early momentum back? All is not cut and dried yet, but it is up to the chasing pack to eat into the Dee’s lead. The runaway favourites are finding it hard going and this could still go down to the wire. Weekend Squads Inverness may have to rethink after defensive lapses cost them dearly against Killie. The main culprit was the much maligned Lionel, whose schoolboy defending was paramount to the cup run ending. He was not alone as our back four showed hesitancy and were outpaced time and time again by Connor Sammon. Stuart Golabek has been injured recently and may get the nod if he has recovered sufficiently, but another strong shout is for young Graeme Shinnie to be given the chance to show his skills and undoubted pace. I wonder if Butcher will stand by his man, or will he revert to the side that ousted Well in the cup, with Tokely at left back. This would open the door for Russell Duncan to return to his favoured defensive midfield duties alongside the ever maturing Lee Cox or possibly Proctor. The front four would remain as Hayes, Sanchez, Foran, with Rooney ploughing the lone furrow. Eric Odhiambo will be knocking on the door as Danni Sanchez has been rather frugal in front of goal and took a knock into the bargain. Robert Eagle may also play a part at some stage as we prepare for LABAI............................................ life after Barrowman and Imrie. Possible ICT line up Esson Tokely Bulvitis Munro Golabek Proctor Duncan Hayes Eric Foran Rooney Sanchez, Eagle, Cox, and Lionel will surely be likliest candidates to warm the bench. Raith Rovers will have to make do without the dangerous Gregory Tadé as he is suspended, as is former Jambo, Stephen Simmons. Their deputies could well be another ex-Jambo Graham Weir and Mark Ferry, although Darren Smith could be in the mix. Javier Amaya is also ruled out through injury. Experienced defender Lawrie Ellis is a doubt after taking a knock midway through the cup game, Dougie Hill could fill in for him. Possible line up for Raith McGurn Wilson Campbell Murray Hill Williamson Ferry Walker D.Smith Russell K.Smith Tm4tj prediction I'm getting worse at this prediction lark. With only one goal separating the sides in the last two league encounters I would expect nothing less from this one. Raith will be buzzing following their cup heroics, whereas Inverness had their confidence dented by the defeat at Killie, much of this was their own doing. While we have great attacking options, our stationary defending has given us grief all season. Left back has not been our most consistent position and the Bobby Mann/Darren Dods shaped hole has never been filled in central defence. Grant Munro always seems to have his hands full when Lionel is playing and this detracts from his central role, leaving his partner Bulvitis exposed at times. You would think that a managerial team that boasts a multitude of English and Scottish international caps would be able to identify the problem areas and put in place a plan of action. Not so. Strangely enough, we seem to be better equipped up front. Without wishing to put the curse of the Irish on this game, I would look to the trio of Hayes, Foran and Rooney to dig deep and get us out of this one with three points. Raith on the other hand have threats up front with loan star Kevin Smith bang on form and Iain Williamson looking to add to their goal tally. Keeper David McGurn was their star player as he saved Raith from a drubbing in Inverness and he will be ably assisted by his experienced defence. Not always an easy place to win points, or cup games, but I will stick my neck out and go for Inverness to sneak a goal in a tight tussle and make the journey up the A9 more appealing. Willie Polland rip On a sad note, I notice that former Raith & Hearts defender Willie Polland has passed away. Willie played for Raith in the fifties & sixties and also spent six years at Tynecastle. He enjoyed Raith so much he returned in 1967 and totalled 372 appearances for them. Kilmarnock 3-0 Inverness CT - Scottish Cup

Jimmy says Aye to a Killie Pie...

Almost on the eve of the 10 year anniversary of ICT's greatest cup exploits, the team headed South hoping to repeat the process against SPL opposition but it was not to be as Killie convincingly won 3-0 with goals from Connor Sammon and a double from Liam Kelly.
This made it a long trip back up the A9 for team and fans but they could be content that the scoreline had flattered Killie as the game was much more equal than the final score suggested.
Not only that, but the atmosphere was excellent thanks to Jimmy Calderwood's alleged penchant for Killie pies.

Referee Calum Murray Attendance 4473 The famous pies weren’t the only high point of the day for the ICT travelling support, a forty minute continuous chant based on the Kilmarnock saying “Say aye to a Killie pie.” The “creative” fans came up with Jimmy says aye to a Killie pie, aimed at the new “robust” Killie manager.

Kille were high on confidence after defeating Celtic in a midweek game, their match-winner in that game, Chris Maguire was cup tied for the clash. ICT’s long term servant Ross Tokely would have been hoping for another cup-shock as it was almost ten years to the day when ICT beat Celtic 3-1 at Parkhead.
It was ICT who started the game best and forced the first of a string of good saves from young Killie stopper, Cammy Bell. A long ball forward from Grant Munro was flicked on by Danni Sanchez into the path of Adam Rooney who muscled his way through two defenders before trying to slide the ball past Bell from a tight angle, but it wasn’t to be as the previously injury ridden keeper parried the ball to safety. ICT continued to press and David Proctor tested Bell from long distance but his drive was held well by the Killie stopper.
However, it was Killie who took the lead through Connor Sammon, latching onto a long ball before looping the ball over the helpless Ryan Esson in the ICT goal. A goal against the run of play but they all count, sadly.
ICT nearly equalized when Adam Rooney played the ball out onto the wing to Richie Foran where the Irishman drilled the ball across the six yard box but Spaniard Sanchez just couldn’t convert the ball after Cammy Bell made a crucial touch on the ball when Foran played the ball across to make sure Sanchez couldn’t force the ball across the line.
The Rugby Park side double their lead in the 36th minute, a long pass by January signing Scott Severin, finding Sammon whose cross wasn’t fully cleared and it landed at the feet of Liam Kelly who side footed into the net, despite the ball taking a slight deflection off of Lionel Djebi-Zadi.
Half Time 2-0
The game was wrapped up for Killie in the second half when Gary Hay’s deep cross landed at the feet of Djebi-Zadi but the French defender could only watch as the ball cannoned off of him and in came Liam Kelly to smash home his second of the day.
ICT kept pushing for a consolation goal and forced Cammy Bell to make two outstanding saves to keep his second clean sheet this week. The first coming when Richie Foran volleyed goal-wards after substitute Eric Odhiambo’s cross found him at the back post and pulling a magnificent save from Bell. The second was when Foran’s cross wasn’t fully cleared and Odhiambo ran in and released a venomous shot that Bell again parried clear to cap off an extremely impressive performance from the young shot stopper.
Full Time 3-0

Kilmarnock -V- Inverness CT - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
It will be almost ten years to the day since Supercaleywentballistic & Celticwerereatrocious but ICT, back in the first division once more, will be hoping for a repeat of that kind of scoreline against Premier League opposition in this weekend's Scottish Cup 5th Round.

Get the pies on, we’re on our way. Inverness Caledonian Thistle, a name synonymous with Scottish Cup giant killing acts. Not since Berwick Rangers humbled the mighty Glasgow Rangers in 1967 had the Scottish Cup yielded such a David v Goliath story, history in the making. The Headliners It’s almost ten years to the day since Supercaleywentballistic & Celticwerereatrocious. One of the most memorable Scottish Cup scorelines, and headlines, that shook the footballing world to it’s foundations as the wee team from the Highlands of Scotland went down to the big city and beat, nay thrashed the multi-million pound superstars of Glasgow Celtic. This win had repercussions in the Celtic camp as manager John Barnes was hastily removed from his chair whilst his counterpart, the laid back Steve Paterson was catapulted into the limelight with his bunch of unlikely heroes.   The giant killing continued as Edinburgh’s big favourites Hearts were dispatched by the same scoreline two years later, with Ross Tokely opening the scoring and a certain Mr Wyness and David Bagan completing the rout. Celtic were rapidly tiring of playing Inverness in the cup and in 2003 Dennis Wyness scored the only goal at Inverness to ensure that lightning can strike twice. Yes, those were the days my friends, I thought they’d never end………however, along came the SPL years and with the underdog tag removed from ICT, our determination in the face of adversity diminished and we joined the pack. Now back in the first division, we have taken Motherwell out of the equation with a well deserved 2-0 victory over the SPL Steelmen. Goals from Nauris Bulvitis and the recently departed Dougie Imrie saw Inverness being paired with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in the 5th round draw. Nauris himself almost departed but he has returned to the fold as his loan deal appears to have been sorted until the end of the season. The Latvian defender has slowly endeared himself to the Jaggies fans with some solid defending and he pops up with the odd goal as well, so it’s great to see him here for the remainder of the season. With our country cousins and near neighbours Ross County getting the more comfortable draws in the competition it would appear that Inverness will have their work cut out to make the later stages of the Active Nation Scottish Cup, and like John Terry, we will be playing away from home in our quest to further our interest in this years competition. It will be difficult to emulate the teams best years when we reached the semi-final in 2003 and 2004, losing 2-0 to Dundee and taking Dunfermline to a replay at Pittodrie in 2004 before Barry Nicolson waltzed past our defence to effectively put the game beyond us. Think Archie Gemmill for that goal, and you will be pretty close. The olde times Killie of course have been on cup business in the Highland capital many moons ago (1985) when they visited Kingsmills Park. Inverness Thistle were in the Highland league and Kilmarnock were in the then top league in Scotland, the First Division. By the end of the afternoon you would have been hard pushed to differentiate between the teams. One big give away as to which team were the victors was the amount of ‘big Kilmarnock Bunnets’ strewn around the pitch like wreaths, in a macabre fashion, and the two hundred Killie fans demonstrating behind the main stand demanding sackings after they witnessed Thistle hammering Killie 3-0. On the other hand, the Jags fans were singing and dancing their way to the Heathmount to party on. Goals by Milroy, Hay and Fraser stunned the visitors, an astonishing result at the time and a game which earned them a trip to Parkhead to play Celtic in the next round. That’s where the fairytale ended with Celtic winning 6-0. Incidentally, Jags all time legend goalkeeper, Jimmy Calder came on as a striker in that game before deciding goals was his best option, (he never liked running). He would of course come back to haunt Celtic in that 1-3 win at Parkhead as he played a blinder between the sticks. In the same round that Thistle were thumping Killie, Caley were thrashed 6-0 by Hearts in Edinburgh. Another cup game at Inverness between the now merged sides and Killie, saw the Highlanders being taken to a dramatic replay in injury time. The game finished 1-1, with Kilmarnock equalising seconds after ICT thought they had secured a famous victory in 2001. Substitute Barry Robson had opened the scoring but Gus McPherson’s late late burst down the right wing and cross for Gary Hay to nod home the leveller meant a midweek trip to Ayrshire for the Jaggies. Andy Maclaren had a frustrating afternoon culminating in a sending off. Earlier he was denied a goal when Jimmy Calder seemed to turn round and claw the ball away from two feet over the line after the ball had smacked the underside of the bar. Oh what a shame. In the replay, a Davide Xausa goal was not enough to stop Killie going into the next round thanks to goals from Kevin McGowne and a converted penalty from Paul Wright. The SPL years Inverness are no strangers to Rugby Park in recent years and have done reasonably well against Killie in our SPL years. In fact last season we took nine points from Killie, unfortunately in what turned out to be one of the more crucial games near the end of the season big Kevin Kyle stooped to score the winner late in the game to leave Inverness staring relegation in the face, and the rest is history, thanks Falkirk. Since joining the SPL, games against Kilmarnock have been very even. The mark of the devil if you like, 666. That’s six ICT wins, six draws and six Killie wins, with only one goal separating the sides in the eighteen meetings. Killie have had the greatest winning margin, 4-1 at Rugby Park but we have weighed in with a 3-0 and a 3-1 at home. One of the most entertaining matches saw Killie win by the odd goal in seven at Inverness in 2006. A double from Darren Dods and a Dargo penalty were not enough as a pair of braces were scored by Naismith and Nish, one of which was a penalty. Squads for the weekend Inverness have parted company with two players in the trading period, with the goal hero from the last round Dougie Imrie joining Hamilton. Good luck to Dougie at New Douglas Park and thanks for the memories of that stunning free kick you scored at Tynecastle. Striking failure Andy Barrowman has rejoined Ross County after his less than sensational period at ICT. He hit the headlines when he scored our opener against Aberdeen in our first ever victory over the Dons, but it was all downhill after that for Barrowman. A combination of injury and playing formations meant his playing time was limited and with Rooney now established as the main striker then his best options for a game on Saturday afternoons lay elsewhere.   The squad has been picking itself recently with a more settled ICT beginning to get the rewards for consistency although they made hard work of it last weekend against Partick. Jamie Duff is the long term absentee and the only injury at present. Esson will be first choice keeper and the back four should be Tokely-Bulvitis-Munro and Djebi-Zadi, who is now free from his cuptied suspension. The midfield defensive pairing may see Proctor and Cox share the berth, although Russell Duncan might play a part. With Imrie away the forward midfielders will almost certainly be Hayes-Sanchez-Foran with Adam Rooney probably playing the lone strikers role, something he has become accustomed to. Eric Odhiambo and Robert Eagle may also have a say in the outcome of this one. Danni Sanchez has been some peoples MoM and others question his inclusion, but for me he has enough awareness and creativity to become a match winner. Other contenders for that title should be hit man Rooney, Richie Foran with Jonny Hayes being the man most likely to hit the spot. Little Jonny could be the surprise packet for ICT as Killie will be unaware of his precocious talents and the 22 year old Irishman has been in great form recently. Squad v Partick Esson, Proctor, Bulvitis, Munro, Djebi-Zadi, Cox, Sanchez, Foran (Odhiambo 81), Tokely, Rooney, Hayes. Subs Not Used: Allison, Duncan, Golabek, Eagle. Kilmarnock have a new manager since we last played them, but an old adversary for us in the shape of Jimmy Calderwood. The ex Aberdeen boss has taken over from Jim Jeffries recently with a view to stopping the rot at Rugby Park.   His first game ended with a three nil home defeat to Motherwell, but results since have been encouraging for the Killie fans. An entertaining 4-4 draw with Dundee United and a thrilling first win in nine years over Celtic has given them fresh optimism for the season and they will relish the visit from ICT in the cup to escape from the relegation battle in the SPL.   They have added experienced Scottish international Scott Severin from Watford and Aberdeen's Chris Maguire, the scorer of the goal against Celtic to the squad along with other January sales bargain Rob Kiernan, all on loan deals until the summer. Maguire will not play in this game however as he is cup-tied. The ones to look out for will be Kevin Kyle, a danger for any defence in the air, and the man solely responsible for keeping Killie in the SPL last season. Mehdi Taouil is a box of tricks and will need close attention, although he is allegedly suffering from a hamstring injury. Fortunately, Squad v Celtic Gk-Cammy Bell, Clancy, Hay, Ford, Bryson, Pascali, Taouil, Kelly, Hamill, Kyle, Maguire Subs used:- Severin, Sammon, Kiernan Unused:- Robinson, Fowler, Old, Invincible Tm4tj prediction With the pressure off both clubs for different reasons, this cup tie could be an entertaining affair. Both teams on their day have players capable of scoring goals and this encounter normally produces plenty of them. For Inverness Adam Rooney will be looking to add to his tally for the season and with a bit more composure he may well do that this weekend. He showed tremendous courage to take his second penalty last week and that will have encouraged him. His counterpart Kevin Kyle is a big threat. He has scored against us before and his aerial presence will give him a big advantage over our medium sized defenders.  I firmly believe that we have the one ace in the pack, and that is Jonny Hayes. He is really developing into an excellent winger and packs a punch with his shooting as well. If he can skin the full backs and deliver for Rooney or Foran, then we might just have the match winner in our side. Not an easy tie however and Calderwood, like him or loathe him, is an astute manager and I’m sure he will have done his homework. With that in mind, I am going for a scoring draw with ICT to edge the replay. An easier prediction for me is that the Killie pies will be delicious, mmmnnnnn.

Through the Window

Teaser Paragraph:
It has been confirmed that two players have left ICT during the transfer window with one player coming in.
In comes Nauris Bulvitus whose loan spell is extended and out go Andy Barrowman (to County) and Dougie Imrie (to Hamilton)
It has now been confirmed that two players have left ICT during the transfer window with one player coming in.
In comes Nauris Bulvitus until the end of the season after a deal was agreed with his Latvian Club but out go Dougie Imrie for a reputed £40K to Hamilton Accies and Andrew Barrowman to former club Ross County after negotiating a release from ICT.
There is no fee involved for Barrowman but it was quoted on deadline day that ICT may have had to pay some compensation to the player to end his contract.
Dougie Imrie: Dougie was signed from Clyde in January 2008 and made 73 appearances for ICT (58 starts, 15 as a sub).
His first appearance for ICT was against St Mirren in Paisley on 9th February 2008 in a 1-1 draw and he made his full debut the following week at the Caledonian Stadium in another 1-1 draw, this time with Dundee United. His first goal for the club - an absolute peach too - came on the 19th April 2008 in a league match against Kilmarnock which ICT won 3-0.
During his time at ICT he scored a total of 10 goals, picked up 10 yellow cards and 1 red which came in this season's challenge Cup Final against Dundee.
Andrew Barrowman: Andy was a player who Craig Brewster made his main target at the start of the 08/09 season having scored 29 goals for Ross County the previous season as they clawed their way back up from Div 2.
Sadly, Barrowman could not repeat that form for his new gaffer and scored only twice for ICT in 2008/09 in 33 appearances. Andy made a total of 41 appearances for ICT (17 starts, 24 as a sub) scoring a total of 3 goals and picking up 4 yellows and a red.
His first appearance for ICT was at Pittodrie on 9th August 2008 when for the first time in 18 attempts, ICT finally beat the Dons. Barrowman was instrumental in this defeat as he scored the first goal of this match and of his Caley Thistle career. He next scored 7 weeks later against Kilmarnock in a 3-1 win at the Caledonian Stadium but suffered a goal drought after that and didnt score his third and final goal for the club until almost a year later in the 3-2 defeat by Motherwell in this season's League Cup. His one red card for the club came in a 2-2 draw away to Arbroath in the 08/09 League Cup
Also heading out the door at the Caledonian Stadium during this transfer window, but only on loan, are striker Shane Sutherland and midfielder Gavin Morrison who both head to Elgin for some first team experience and midfielder Andrew Macaskill (17) who has joined Clach until the end of the season.

3rd in the table now

Adam Rooney is the Highland Hero as he scores an 89th minute penalty to give Caley Thistle a win that takes them to 3rd in the table.
With County winning in Dundee, the gap to leaders Dundee is now 10pts but ICT have 2 games in hand Its seven without defeat for ICT who today narrowly defeated Partick Thistle at The Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.
The Firhill Jags took the lead midway through the first half before ICT turned it round to gain all three points.
Jonny Hayes returned to the starting eleven, with Dougie Imrie, surprisingly, not even on the bench. Ross Tokely made his first step towards 600 appearances for ICT, wearing the only shirt number that he hadn’t yet worn for the club, number nine.

With a fresh layer of snow resting on the ICT pitch, the game was in slight doubt but everyone would have been delighted that this fantastic encounter between the two jags went ahead. The last time ICT lost a game was away to Partick so they will be hoping to avenge that defeat. ICT flew out of the traps and pressured Partick right from the start and with only six minutes gone Jonny Hayes picks up the ball in the centre of midfield, charged forward before playing a fantastic through ball to Adam Rooney but the Irish striker fired his shot straight at Jonny Tuffey. Just two minutes later Jonny Hayes was running at the Partick defence again, jinxing his way past new signing Ryan Conroy before swinging the ball to the back post where Richie Foran was lurking, but his powerful header was again saved by Tuffey. But it was Partick that grabbed the opener, a goal out of nothing from Marc Corcoran, he just turned on a loose ball before lashing a vicious snap-shot into Ryan Esson’s bottom right hand corner to give Ian McCall’s side an undeserved win. ICT had a claim for a penalty soon after the opener; Jonny Hayes again carving the Partick defence wide open before finding himself wedged in between two defenders, he hit the deck but referee David Somers wasn’t convinced and produced the Irish trickster with a yellow card. But the equalizer did come eventually, the infamous “Caley Punt” was put to good use in a fantastic flowing move that began with Grant Munro playing a high lofted ball over the Partick midfielders where Adam Rooney flicked his header onto Richie Foran who bent a wonderful pass round experienced defender Martyn Corrigan into the path of Hayes who exquisitely dispatched his shot beyond the despairing Tuffey for 1-1. Partick almost regained the lead two minutes later, a messy goalmouth scramble eventually fell back to the awaiting Chris Erskine who crashed a powerful drive off of Esson’s crossbar. A sluggish start was had by both sides in the second half but the game sprung to life when Spaniard Danni Sanchez burst forward with the ball, the Partick defenders allowing him far too much room, and his long shot was again well saved by Tuffey. ICT had a gift of an opportunity to take the lead with just over twenty minutes to go when Adam Rooney was brought down by Ian Maxwell on the edge of the area, Mr. Somers having no option but to point to the spot for a penalty. However, the Irish striker nervously stepped up to the plate but his weak penalty was saved by the impressive Tuffey.
ICT again should have taken the lead, this time through Sanchez, Richie Foran slid the ball through for Rooney who calmly rolled the ball across for Sanchez, but the attacking midfielder took far too long to set his feet and Tuffey saved his awful effort. Finally, ICT got their long awaited, and deserved, winning goal, a lofted ball from substitute Eric Odhiambo was well controlled by Rooney and again he was floored by Maxwell, this time the defender receiving a straight red card for a last man challenge. The brave Adam Rooney stepped up again, looking much more confident this time, and smashed his penalty low into Tuffey’s bottom right hand corner to send the Caley Thistle faithful wild and gain a valuable three points.
Man of the match Jonny Hayes said in a post-match interview that the title is still very much in their sights but said that manager Terry Butcher is concerned about the lack of chances taken by his squad, despite their recent good form. Hayes, believes that ICT will take the game to Kilmarnock next week as they have nothing to lose, he firmly believes ICT can progress to the next round of the cup.

It's Partick Thistle next for ICT this Saturday in the Irn Bru Scottish Division One. ICT have been on good form of late, their last loss coming against Partick at the end of November with ex Aberdeen man Steve Lovell grabbing the winner that day.
ICT will hope to leap into third this Saturday, first they will have to beat Partick and then hope that Queen Of The South lose to Dunfermline at East End Park.
Last week, ICT won 1-0 away to Airdrie with Adam Rooney grabbing the only goal from the penalty spot just before half time. Caley Thistle controlled the game throughout and attacking midfielder Danni Sanchez hit the woodwork three times in the opening forty-five minutes, then deep into the second half Lee Cox had his shot cleared off of the line.
Partick Thistle will be hoping for some change in fortune after last week’s disappointing result against Dunfermline. An awful 4-1 home loss may have dented the confidence of Ian McCall’s side.
Particks last win came at the very beginning of this month, a 1-0 home win against struggling Morton. Their last 5 games in all competitions have resulted in 3 losses, 1 win and a draw. Team News Inverness
ICT were this week boosted by the news that Narius Bulvitis has returned to spend at least the rest of the season with the highland side. ICT haven’t yet made any additions to their squad this transfer window and with the clubs reported lack of funds, additions don’t look likely. But Butcher will be happy that none of his big names have left the club. ICT are still without long term absentee Jamie Duff, with the defender still out with a knee injury. Stuart Golabek may return on Saturday but only as a substitute as his niggling injury still bothering him. Apart from those two, Butcher has no fresh injury worries to cope with. Partick Thistle
Alan Archibald and Paul Paton are going to miss tomorrow's game through suspension but Partick will also be without Paul Cairney and Stephen McKeown because of injury while Simon Donnelly, Partick's second top scorer for the season, will also be unable for selection due to him being unwell. Thistle have been busier than ICT in the transfer window, extending the loan of accomplished striker Steve Lovell, also adding Celtic winger Ryan Conroy, also on loan, and securing the signature of Martin Grehan from Stirling Albion. Previous Meetings
The two sides have met 16 times in competitive competitions with ICT winning 6, losing 8 and drawing twice, the most recent ICT win was in the Alba Challenge Cup this season, with Ryan Esson saving 3 penalties in a nerve-racking penalty shootout. However, Partick have won a league meeting between the sides this season, going 3-0 up in a great 6 minute spell just before half time before ICT nicked to goals in the second half to bring the final score to 3-2. Prediction
ICT have been on good form recently and with Partick looking a bit dodgy at the moment so you don’t know how they will approach the game, whether they will change the system from last week or try something completely different is up to Ian McCall. But due to our form and solid defence of late I will go for a 2-0 win for ICT with Rooney and Foran grabbing our goals.
