2008-09: Final SPL Table

NOTE [scotty]: Have split this topic to keep 2008/09 predictions separate from 2007/08. Predictions for last season can be seen on this thread .... http://www.caleythistleonline.com/communit...hp?topic=3972.0

Just thought I'd remind people of what they actually thought.

Hearts in the top 3 from most  :rotflmao:

Motherwell for relegation  :023:

And Walter Smith to be sacked for having such a poor season by some  :crazy07:

I think we can be forgiven for giving Gretna a chance as no-one could have predicted the cheque signing fiasco.  Also, I think Killie's terrible run of injuries combined with not being able to replace either Naismith or Nish accounted for their poor place.  I expect them to recover next season.

Anyway, here's what I got:

1. Celtic Celtic

2. Rangers Rangers

3. Aberdeen Motherwell

4. Hearts Aberdeen

5. Hibs Dundee Utd

6. Dundee Utd Hibernian

7. Kilmarnock Falkirk

8. Inverness Hearts

9. Motherwell ICT

10. Falkirk St Mirren

11. Gretna Killie

12. St Mirren Gretna

1. Rangers

2. Celtic

3. Dundee Utd

4. Hibs

6. Hearts

7. Aberdeen

8. Falkirk

9. Inverness

10. Kilmarnock

11. Hamilton

12. St Mirren

1. Rangers ( Lafferty and Velicka are highly unconvincing signings however I rate Kenny Miller highly he was let down by a shocking Derby side last season. McGregor is a class keeper, defence and midfield are  the best in the league.)

2. Celtic ( Boruc is world class and often hides the fact that the defence is so poor bar McManus. McGeady and Robson are quality, the rest of the midfield not so. McDonald is a top striker and will get goals but I can see Rangers winning it this time.)

3. Hibs ( Fletcher and Benjelloun are great up front and guarantee goals, players like O'Brien are very good in midfield, defence is average although Rob Jones stands out. They will just pip Utd to 3rd I think.

4. Dundee United ( Nobody likes him but Hunt is a very good striker. Midfield is looking average except Willo Flood who is a fantastic player. Defence is very good with Dods, Kenneth and Wilkie, however they may miss Szamatulski in goal.)

5. Motherwell ( Will recover from the traumas of last season. Smith is a good keeper, defence is very good with Hammell and Craigan along with thug Quinn, midfield looks poor but Clarkson and Porter is a good strike partnership.)

6.ICT ( A good defence signing and we'll be in the top 6. The league's 3rd best midfield and an exciting forward line of Barrowman and Niculae (providing he stays) will hopefully not be let down by defensive frailties.)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

7. Falkirk ( totally average defence, a very good midfielder with O'Brien, Cregg and Latapy and a decent forward line will be enough to put them ahead of Hearts and Aberdeen.)

8. Hearts ( poorly run, no current manager and looking a total shambles. talented players like Kingston, Berra, Wallace and Driver can't do all the work on their own and if they leave Hearts are in real trouble.)

9.Killie ( a lack of any notable strikers will let them down again. defence isn't great, midfield is ok)

10.Aberdeen ( will have an absolute shocker. no reasons behind this prediction, just feel like it might happen.)

11.Hamilton ( will struggle but will stay up. Offiong is a good striker and the money generated when they sell wonderkid McCarthy will keep them in the SPL for years.)

12. St Mirren ( squad looks awful bar one or two exceptions. not even Gus MacPherson can keep this team up.)

From what I've seen of other teams signings so far there's nothing to indicate we dont have the squad to compete with everyone except the OF. Killie have signed nobody, Falkirk have signed a few has beens. Be positive guys
