The only thing is, how likely would St Johnstone be to let any of the mentioned players go, and if so would they be outwith our budget? if they dont get promoted this year (which looks likely) then are the players going to want to hang about in the first Division for another year?

Fair Point. If we could get younsgsters from Premiership sides i'm sure it would be an avenue CC or Grassa would pursue however as we know its very difficult getting players from 'bigger' clubs to come North. I still think there is plenty young talent in the 1st Division, the list i wrote above was made of predominantly under 25 year olds and there are many more who i think could make it in the SPL.

Where do you suggest then? Serie A? la liga? EPL? Unfortunatley our current budget doenst really mean we can buy big so we have to look at lower divisions.

What sort of size were the bids?

With the end of the season fast approaching quite a few clubs are announcing transfer targets and/or pre contract signings. Although we have already got Don Cowie on a pre-contract it is evident that a rebuilding/strengthening project will have to be carried out over the summer so who would we like to see at our club? it looks more than likely that we will be scouring the lower divisions for talent and going with that theme i have listed a few players i think would make good additions to the squad. Jason Scotland (St Johnstone) Still SPL quality IMO Steven Milne (St Johnstone) Vastly under-rated player Simon Mensing (St Johnstone) remember him from playing for Clyde in the first division and always seemed a capable defender Richard Offiong (Hamilton Accies) We've been linked with him recently, looks like he knows the way to the back of the net and has been capped at England U20 level so must be a fairly decent player. Gary Mackenzie (Dundee) again weve been linked and certainly the potential is there to be a very good player Bryan Deasley (Dundee) pacey forward, something we really need IMO Kevin Macdonald (Dundee) quality midfielder with bags of potential. IIRC he's been linked with a host of clubs however over the past few seasons Stephen Dobbie (QOTS) great finisher and would be an excellent addition if you ask me. cant believe he's still not moved to a bigger club any views? thoughts? suggestions?
  6. 100% agree with that. spot on
  7. is the message from grassa... Article from teamtalk.com Well said :025:
  8. P and J article:
  9. Since there are so many fans who post on here who obviously have more footballing experience/knowledge/coaching ability than our current manager if the shoe was on the other foot, what would you do if on Charlies position to change our fortunes given our current financial situation, geographical position, squad abilities, 'small club status' etc?
  10. i'm with RossP on this one, that would be my preferred formation and the one which i would of thought could be most productive. :025:
  11. Some very good points here. IMO opinion it was unfair of CC to get on at fans for not appreciating the team on Saturday, for 80 minutes that game was dire and left little to cheer about (even the most loyal fans on the planet would have found it hard to cheer on what was on display for most of the game on saturday) however from where i was sitting in the North stand we were cheering at corners and the rare occassion where we had an attacking chance. I didnt hear any boo's but plenty of groans, its very hard to cheer on a player when a simple pass is misplaced or shooting chance sclaffed? I have never booed the team and never will, its part and parcel of football that teams will have off days (especially in our case after the exertions of the cup game) but its something we have to accept. What CC has to remember, it wasnt just the players that were down after the cup game, the fans were too and that was evident in quite a low crowd and quiet support. I am in no way anti-CC as i think he has done a good job so far and am more than happy to have him at the helm of our club but i think he has a lot to learn in getting the fans on his side and slating us for not cheering on a dire performance was a tad unfair and a more diplomatic approach would have gone down better. i.e the game wasnt great, we were suffering a cup hangover, the fans had little to cheer about, we got an undeserved result at last, lets get on with it and push for top 6! I have heard certain groups of fans at games like to give certain players a hard time but again its part and parcel of football and it think overall barring the odd uber-critic we are a bunch of loyal, forgiving fans and IMO certainly not setting unrealistic targets/levels of performance from the team.
  12. Just a shame Inverness hasnt produced more players like him in the last few years, loyal, determined, always gives 110% and he's a **** good defender to boot. Good on you Grantie :021:
  13. Phew, IMO Bayne has been a vital part of the team this season and with the current striker crisis losing another one would be disastrous
  14. Libero replied to Libero's topic in Caley Thistle
I voted no but i really cant make my mind up on wheter it would be beneficial or a waste of valuable resources
  15. Its very worrying if he is!! Wilson and Paatelainen up front anyone? Yeah, think (and hope) they mean McBain, the 'midfieler' tag points to a mistake anyway
  16. Just read the BBC Preview of the arabs game and noticed that Bayne is suspended. I never knew anything about this, is it a mistake or is he suspended?

The time of year has come again where Intertoto applications are being considered and it looks like once again we are going to apply. See Article below from the P and J. A few things have to be taken into account though - i'm pretty sure Aberdeen have expressed an interest in applying, we are not as far up the table as we were this time last season and also the tardiness of the decision about intertoto places last season nearly ruined our pre-season plans...... so should we apply this year or do posters on here think it would be a waste of time?

Forgot about McBain being suspended, Hart in then hopefully. Havent heard anything about dargo in a while :024:

Would like to see Paatalinen start in place of Wilson (who i think needs rested) but playing as a striker and if Mcbain doesnt make it then Hart in and put on the right with Rankin moving over to the left. Other than that same line up as Sunday
  20. Libero replied to kencar's topic in Caley Thistle
I think we should stick with a similar line up but i think we cannot play as defense minded as we did against septic, i think an attacking approach as opposed to counter-attack is needed. back to a traditional 4-4-2 for me.
  21. Certainly hope so, we need to pick our heads up and focus on as high a place in the league as possible.
  22. Yeah its not so much money lost but potential monies lost. I seem to remember when we had the televised replay with Aberdeen that it earnt us £75k so a replay would have been have been circa £100k as a guesstimate
  23. Libero replied to kencar's topic in Caley Thistle
I'm with Kencar on this one, we need to revert to a more traditional 4-4-2 formation rather than what we did at the weekend with Wilson playing deeper supporting the lone striker but neither Mcwegan nor Mccallister have done much to inspire me so Wilson up front. :021:
  24. As i left the house this morning for work i glanced at the P and J and noticed an article saying that if we had got through to the next round of the cup we could of had £300k added to the coffers. In this day and age where football clubs are run as a business' interest this result could be more damaging than i initially thought. Its gonna be hard enough for the players to pick themselves up after such a deflating event but the reveleation that we have missed the chance to earn a bundle is equally disappointing. I really hope Charlie can rally the troops for this weekend. Come on lads! edited to include p and j article
  25. I was interested to see what the official Celtic website said about the game today and while the report seemed 'fairly' accurate i noticed they gave the MOM to Nakamura, ha ha ha :024: WTF!! was nakamura even playing today? I obvioulsy didnt expect them to put an opposition player as MOM but nakamura?
