  2. forget CaleyD and his staunch defence .... is this a windup or a serious question? You want the club to divert what scant resources they have so someone can update you on facebook 24/7 just so you can catch a glimpse of Yogi's helmet ? get a feckin grip !
  3. apparently he overdoes the spray foam too .....
  4. combination of factors I think ... in Piermayr's case he went on trial with Chicago who rejected him and then Colorado came calling when they had a bit of a defensive injury crisis just weeks into the season. They appear to have remembered him from a game where he played against them during his trial with Chicago. I think its also likely Andreas Herzog (asst coach of USA) and former coach of Piermayr might have had a word ... or perhaps he just has a good agent who managed to make the most of padding his CV especially the fact he was an U21 international and his "positional versatility" which is a big thing in MLS given the salary cap. The links below do mention his versatility and the last link is an interview where he mentions turning to Herzog for advice. He suffered an MCL injury towards the end of last season and his (contract extension) option was not picked up by Colorado. He no longer appears to be on Colorado's squad list but due to the vagaries of MLS, Colorado retain first right of refusal if he does sign back with MLS. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2014/04/03/scrambling-defense-colorado-rapids-sign-thomas-piermayr-target-second-additi http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2014/04/02/colorado-rapids-announce-signing-austrian-defender-thomas-piermayr http://www.coloradorapids.com/news/2014/09/country-boy-piermayr-loving-life-colorado-and-mls As for Proctor, I am actually a little surprised that Proc did not tout himself around a few MLS teams, or maybe he did without success (?) but I would have thought his versatility in DEF/MID might have got him a roster spot as depth cover in the same way as it got TP a contract. Having said that, he would count as a foreigner in MLS and teams are hesitant to use the limited spots they are allowed for bench players and the Piermayr signing was an emergency in Colorado's case. In Dani's case, I think he may be a victim of circumstance and timing. MLS has a lot of good/speedy athletes especially those who fancy themselves as wingers and with the various drafts just being completed and teams now in pre-season a lot of players are "in camp" for most MLS teams right now. His chance may come yet .... USL/NASL teams dont typically stand in the way of a player when MLS comes calling .....
  5. so basically the same level that David Proctor was playing at at FC Edmonton. There is a bit of a pedigree surrounding FLS. They were members of the original NASL in the 70s, and also competed in its successor, MLS, as 'Miami Fusion' for 4 seasons (1998-2001). They rebranded themselves back to FLS in 2010 to compete in the newly revamped second tier of North American football (the new NASL). There is a lot of Brazilian influence at the club with Romario and Zinho being former players (and manager in Zinho's case) and with Ronaldo (the Brazilian one, not Cristiano) being confirmed as part owner - and possible part-time player - back in December. Wonder if he is hoping he might get a little stepping stone to play alongside Kaka at Orlando FC or to sign for Beckhams yet to be organised new Miami FC (if they ever get approved for a stadium in downtown Miami).
  6. Although I might take a punt on him to the end of the season, the part of the article that worries me is "Antoine-Curier has played for 18 clubs during his senior career" .... although, to be fair, he has seemed to stay longer at Scottish clubs than elsewhere ....
  7. Perhaps it the distance and the detachment that comes with it, or perhaps its because I waited for a day after the window because I spent most of it digging my car out of the driveway after a storm that dumped a crapload of snow on us (and is headed your way) ... but I have what I hope is a more reasoned outlook on this .... Am I disappointed we did not sign a replacement for Billy? Absolutely. Do I believe that we had "contingencies" in place? Kind of ... I think we had targets and we can name a few but its hard to talk to those targets ahead of time without being accused of tapping up. Once we did talk to them, they showed no interest, or perhaps asked for too much leaving us well and truly screwed. That WAS a mistake either in terms of not feeling things out with agents etc (there are ways), or in perhaps thinking some of these guys were prepared to come to us. Should we panic buy? Absolutely Not. That seems to be the reaction from many since yesterday but I believe we should take (a little) time to look at who is available on a short term deal until the end of the season and review our options after that. We do have goals capable of coming from elsewhere in the squad, we do also have the likes of Ferguson or maybe even Foran who can come (back) in as well as others in the squad who can cover but perhaps there is a gem or two in the free agent/unattached market. normally there's a page on the PFA or SPFA websites where you can get a list of players looking for clubs but I dont see anything at the moment. Out of the crop of releases I know of, I would perhaps take a serious look at M-A-C but no-one else really.
  8. according to radio it was Jervis, according to newsfeeds it was a Warren OG
  9. yeah, but it didnt cover ICT when we were the away team in Dingwall .... bizarre Got to say that Auldy boy and Mike Noble are far better commentators. Today's ones are banging on about lack of atmosphere, but listening to this commentary I am about to go an put on a Smiths album to cheer myself up !!!!
  10. Bogged Down Inverness and County tried their best to play football, but the weather and pitch were the real winners as the final derby of the season ended in stalemate. Marley Watkins scored a superb opener, guiding a low shot beyond an outstretched Reguero, and despite a few efforts being cleared off the line they could not find that elusive second goal. A debatable equaliser saw the ball squeezed into the net and it looks like Gary Warren has been credited with scoring an own goal in a six yard stramash. With Billy Mckay off to Wigan it was Marley Watkins that started in the strikers role with Nick Ross retaining his starting slot. Dean Brill was out after damaging his knee last week and Ryan Esson was in goals for his first game this season. Ryan Christie and Aaron Doran warmed the bench. There was a Mackay on the substitutes list, but that was the Caley Jags young keeper. County had new signing Ruben Palazuelos on the bench alongside Jake Jervis, with Liam Boyce and Tony Dingwall in the starting X1. Heavy rain, sleet and snow had been forecast and it didn't disappoint. The game survived an early inspection but it was clear to see the weather of the last week had taken it's toll with massive areas looking a bit boggy and plenty of water still sitting on the surface. The staff had done wonders to ensure the game went ahead, but it wouldn't be a day for the purist. County started with a flourish and forced a couple of corners to no avail and Inverness responded in similar fashion with the same result. Reguero flapping at one of the corners but as the ball dropped kindly for County it was booted clear. First close shave went to County as Liam Boyce fired a long range effort that was only a foot or two wide with Esson struggling to cover his post. That one came about after Ross Draper missed a ball headed back towards the home end, he would make another three or four gaffs as he struggled on the heavy surface looking as though he was wearing lead boots. Inverness responded with a header from Gary Warren but Reguero pushed it away before an agricultural clearance saved the day. The game was getting bogged down on the heavy surface and Inverness had abandoned their passing game in favour of keeping the ball off the moor. Best chance so far fell to Tony Dingwall as the ball fell to him some ten yards out. He gathered the ball and shot before being shut down, but Esson used some fancy footwork to keep the low drive out. The hosts opened the scoring out of the blue. A flighted ball down the left side was won by the Inverness midfielders after some tenacious tackling with Watkins and Williams getting stuck in aided by Tansey. The ball was eventually rolled into the path of Watkins again who drifted forward and guided a superb low curling strike beyond Reguero from 25 yards. As the interval approached, County were being forced onto the back foot and were fortunate to get to the break without conceding again. Half Time 1-0 The second half started where the first left off and Gary Warren again showed his strength at cross balls, almost scoring with a header that beat Reguero but was hacked clear on the line by Reckford. That elusive second goal was not coming and we paid the price for not being more clinical. Carl Tremarco might look back and think he could have done better as he challenged for a ball in midfield with Jackson Irvine. The County man tamely won the ball and sent a long cross into the area. Sub Jake Jervis challenged for the ball with legs and arms flailing as Esson and Warren looked set to clear the danger but the ball came off body parts and ended up in the net. It's unclear who did what, but Warren has been given the nod and it's an own goal. County almost added another right after scoring but when Jervis found himself with acres of space on the left side of the box he lashed his shot high into the side net stanchion to miss a glaring opportunity to the make the keeper work. Another headed clearance off the line denied Inverness a certain goal and a retaken Tansey free kick was easily plucked out of the air by Reguero as play became more frantic. It was now a midfield battle which the visitors were winning by keeping some width while we resorted to pinging balls forward by-passing the blockage, ignoring our possession game. The last throw of the dice saw Watkins sprint onto a Christie chip, but as he poked the ball round Reguero the keeper seemed to catch his foot. Unfortunately for Marley, his tumble to the deck was somewhat theatrical and that seemed to make up Beaton's mind to ignore the dive and wave play on. The game finished in blizzard conditions which summed up the days play. Not a classic by any manner or means, plenty of effort from both sides but the conditions ensured that it would be energy sapping rather than smooth and silky. Full Time 1-1 A draw was about right although Inverness will rue the chances they spurned when on top. Credit to County for their resillience, some great goal line clearances kept us at bay and they ended up holding the ball better than us during the second half as we went more direct. tm4tj MotM goes to Danny Williams. He darted around and caused County plenty of problems in the first half. Quieter second half as the pitch took it's toll but as likely as anyone else to make the breakthrough. Watkins scored a corker and ran himself to a standstill, maybe that's why he fell over so easily and Tremarco plugged away, although his missed tackle for the equaliser was crucial. 14. Raven not offered anything yet according to Courier. wants to sign up, doesnt want to move. get the contract on the table !
  15. Reading the Courier website today, I would get a contract offer on the table for Raven .....
  16. So how old is Shinnie and do we get any compo from the sheep? The rule is this: Training compensation shall be paid to a player’s training club(s): (1) when a player signs his first contract as a professional, and (2) each time a professional is transferred until the end of the season of his 23rd birthday. The obligation to pay training compensation arises whether the transfer takes place during or at the end of the player’s contract. The provisions concerning training compensation are set out in Annexe 4 of these regulations. Based on this we would certainly be due compensation if he moved during the transfer window as Graeme has been in the first team squad for a total of six years .... making his senior debut at the start of the 2009/10 season (age 17) after coming up from the U19s where he was for a year or two. He was 23 in August 2014, part of the 2014/15 season but I have to wonder if Aberdeen are specifically waiting until after the end of the season so that compensation may not be due on a technicality? If he moves in January we would be due a healthy payout. If the Dons don't officially sign him until July or August (ie. at the start of the season where Graeme will be 24) are we still due something? I note that it mentions 'end of contract' but there is no indication of the timeline for this ..... clear as mud in other words ! Perhaps someone more in the know can enlighten us? See here: http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/administration/01/95/83/85/regulationsstatusandtransfer_e.pdf Page 23 has the rule and pages 60-65 have the small print of the rule !
  17. Scotty replied to a post in a topic in Caley Thistle
I hope they have been on the lookout since long before that as it seemed somewhat inevitable a few months ago albeit we expected him to go at the end of the season not now ... The scouts should always be on the lookout for players who can enhance or improve our team .... I expect we will muddle through on Saturday but agree we would ideally need someone in place asap

gives me another reason to shout dogs abuse at Shaun Maloney when Chicago Fire come calling here in Toronto !!! How he ever managed to get a DP slot in MLS is beyond me !
  19. just for reference .........
  20. option 'C' ..... pass to Calum Ferguson
  21. Unfortunately (?), the days of Jim McLean and 25 year contracts with your first born being sent to sweep his chimney once a week are long gone .... lets face a few facts here .... 1. We get gates of 3-4000 on a good day. That does not afford us the luxury of a wage structure that compares with anything other than the lower reaches of the Scottish Premiership. We cannot compete with Celtic, Aberdeen Dundee Utd or even the likes of Hibs or Hearts in the Championship who all have bigger budgets to play with (or to squander or screw up) in part thanks to bigger gates. 2. Some of the teams mentioned above (and many others) have been guilty of spending beyond their means and getting into trouble. We did that on a far smaller scale as we climbed the leagues and almost paid the price. For the last 14 or 15 years each of our chairmen and the board members he has around him have ensured we live within our means despite the fact we will typically make a loss on paper each year if we dont get a cup run or more bums on seats. We have been a model of fiscal propriety in the SPL/SPFL and the board should be lauded for that feat not ridiculed. 3. There are two sides to a contract agreement. If a player does not want to sign it then how is that the board's fault? How does that equate to bad management and being unable to protect prize assets? If we lose a player that wanted to stay because we f**** up, then fair enough ... but regardless of the contract we put down in front of some players they are not going to sign it. Shinnie and Mckay are two prime examples. Shinnie said early doors that he was likely moving on ... had we even offered him anything at that point? could we offer him anything? Based on responses in this thread it seems that he may have turned down a more lucrative offer to go to Birmingham and instead signed for Aberdeen. He may get twice what he was getting here but not the 4 times he might have got at Brum. That to me sounds like family may play a bigger part and if - as someone mentioned - he has a baby on the way then being nearer to family may play a huge role in his decision. No board can make an offer to top that ... yet somehow its still the boards fault? get a feckin grip ! 4. We dont have a Nandos (yet) .... (and many folks will be disappointed when it arrives as its nothing special !!!) To the two people I have quoted, please enlighten me ..... how do we make it stop and solve this ridiculously short sighted bad posting management? None of the players mentioned were staying regardless of the contracts we would offer so I would really like to understand what YOUR solution and remedy for this would have been? ... 2 of the players quoted went to England to "further their careers" before returning to the SPL/SPFL and one sold himself to the highest bidder and then dropped 3 levels to pick up another inflated pay cheque ..... none were staying, none wanted to stay, and none had any intention of coming back to us when their original move did not pan out. As for Graeme Shinnie. I am torn. He seems like a good lad and I am pretty certain he will do his best for ICT whilst ICT are paying his wages. He has never struck me as one who would "do a Butcher". However, there is a clear conflict of interest given that both ourselves and Aberdeen are vying for as high a finish as we can achieve and a simple surge or dip in form by one team might be the difference between 2nd and 4th or 5th .... and there is a huge drop in bonus payments between 1st & 2nd then 3rd - 6th ...... In all good conscience, I dont see how he can play against Aberdeen yet I also dont see how or why we should allow Aberdeen to gain that advantage .... Pre-contracts really are an abomination and whilst they may be a necessary evil I would like to see UEFA/FIFA BAN them when it involves teams in the same league who are in direct competition with each other. It is not fair on the club(s) concerned nor on the fans who pay to watch the games.
  22. not going to be around for the game today (wife's birthday) so can someone please post lineups and any changes to audio links etc.
