Why Hughes should STAY!
at quick glance it was May 2011 when we last won 4 league games in a row. We beat Celtic 3-2 (H), St Mirren 1-0 (H), Hibs 2-0 (H) and Hamilton 1-2 (A). We have won 3 league games in a row 6 times since then but not 4.

Inverness CT -V- St Johnstone - SPFL
Easy Money Inverness cruised to victory over a rancid St Johnstone side devoid of skill, energy, subtleness and quality. First half goals from Billy Mckay and Marley Watkins had Inverness in the driving seat before the break as the Perth side never got out of first gear. No further goals in the second half but I doubt Inverness will have an easier game all season. Someone needs to tell the St Johnstone team it was a pay what you can night, not a play when you can be bothered. Graeme Shinnie moved to right back to replace the suspended David Raven and Danny Williams started along with Marley Watkins. Ryan Christie and James Vincent started from the bench and young Ally Sutherland made an appearance before the end. St Johnstone were without James McFadden, but the dangerous Michael O'Halloran started. The pay what you want experiment certainly boosted the size of the crowd, not sure about the coffers though. The visitors started with a flurry of crosses and corners right from the off and from one of these Graeme Shinnie was fortunate to see a sliced clearance shave the top of the bar. It looked as though it was going to be a busy night for the Inverness defence, but that was it really. Once the Caley Jags got hold of the ball, they never relinquished it and it proved to be a difficult night for the Perth men as our possession game took over, albeit sometimes overplayed at times, but in keeping the ball, St Johnstone were restricted to chasing shadows for the rest of the game. In truth, it turned into shooting practice for the hosts as they turned the screw. Plenty of showboating and slick interplay saw the Perth defence opened up time and time again with only the end product missing. Billy McKay was unlucky a few times as Mannus did his best to thwart the Inverness strikers. He clawed away a Billy header and saw a few efforts go close, none closer than Aaron Doran who hit the post after the ball broke to him on the edge of the box. A goal was imminent though and it carried a touch of fortune initially. An attempted clearance cannoned off a defender amidst claims of handball. Nick Ross never hesitated and his chipped cross found Shinnie at the back post, and he kept it alive by knocking it back to McKay who turned the ball into the net. The Inverness tails were well and truly up and after a period of ball retention across our own penalty area, the long ball down the left paid off. Tremarco took the ball expertly on his chest as he burst forward before rifling a low ball across the box. Mannus dived but failed to cut it out and Watkins had the simplest of tasks to side foot the ball into an empty net. St Johnstone were nowhere to be seen as Inverness dominated to the break, Tremarco volleying wide but no more goals as the half ended. HALF TIME 2-0 If anything the second half was a bit of an anti climax as pretty patterns were still being weaved but the back of the net would not bulge again. That's not to say we did not create anything but a ruthless streak we do not possess. There were a few melee's around the Saints box but that elusive third goal would not come. Nick Ross volleyed over from a good position and one or two efforts were headed away or blocked in the six yard box. FULL TIME 2-0 St Johnstone were absolutely minging, creating very little and spent most of the game chasing shadows. A lot of that was down to our possession play, but plenty of it was down to their lack of urgency and quality. That said, we let them off lightly by not forcing home our massive superiority and that is my only gripe. Too often we faffed around at the back and played across the park in search of total retention. It certainly worked to piss off St Johnstone but it was getting frustrating to watch at times although it probably kept Brill warm as the chill descended on the stadium. tm4tj MotM is not easy to pick given our overall dominance. Nick Ross was the sponsors choice, not a bad one at that, but my pick was Carl Tremarco who grew into the game and had a brilliant assist for the second goal. Only Brill gets less than full marks as he had nothing to do but clear pass backs, and one of them he left so late he cleared it next week, almost being shut down. Now where have I seen that before? MLS Pre-season
After 8 seasons of s*** it can only be better this year ... cant it? Seriously though, I am mildly optimistic for this season .... thats about as good as you can hope for with TFC as the owners MLSE usually manage to screw things up somewhere along the lines every year ... look up Toronto Maple Leafs and/or Toronto Raptors for additional evidence of that ! Defoe was a liability for TFC. I said when he signed that it would all end in tears and it did. Don't get me wrong, I loved every goal he scored for TFC and some were absolute beauties, but it was clear very early on that he was only here for a big pay-cheque .... with a side order of playing regularly and hoping to make the world cup squad. This is the same reason Brazilian keeper Julio Cesar started the season with us too but at least with him we knew it was a short term loan where everybody wins. After Defoe didnt make the England squad, I think he just thought "f*** it" and ever since then he has been nursing injuries that for some reason required treatment back in England. Apparently his mum - who journalists have reported had a house in Toronto bought (rented?) for her by TFC - has a big influence in all his decisions and after the world cup snub the rumours began circulating that there was a fallout with TFC and he was to go back to England with Harry Redknapp favourite to capture his signature. TFC turned down a QPR bid on the last day of the transfer window in August. I fear Giovinco may be cut from the same cloth. He's 27, was a regular in the Italian squad and in the Juventus team but has lost both spots more recently. I am not sure that playing in MLS will enhance his chances of getting back into the international fold but it should help fill BMO field. Toronto has a fairly sizeable Italian ex-pat community and an 8400 capacity extension opening in May with a further stadium expansion slated for next year .... they need bums on seats and the Italian community has not yet embraced TFC. At a rumoured salary of $7m per year (or £90K per week in UK money) they better hope this effort works. It is seen around the league as a big step though ... with current US internationals like Bradley, Altidore, Dempsey, Edu etc., coming back to MLS in their prime, and with the usual influx of 30-somethings like Gerrard, Kaka, Villa, Lampard, adding a player like Giovinco who is seen as a current international player in his prime as opposed to a returning American or an older foreigner is huge ..... some say its bigger than the Beckham or Thierry Henry signings at LA or New York ... I remain to be convinced. I have less reservations about Altidore though. Michael Bradley apparently restructured his own DP deal so his good friend and US team-mate could sign for the club in the swap deal for Defoe. I hope we get the Altidore that played in Holland and not the EPL version! I am mildly optimistic on this front as he and Bradley do have history and chemistry together and Bradley seems to be here for the long haul and will no doubt replace Steven Caldwell as captain in the next season or two. As for the other DP, the fans love Gilberto. He took a while to get started, and it looked like he would never score, but once he did he started scoring a few. He really works his b******* off in every game and is a firm fan favourite. Like Matias Laba last year who ended up at Vancouver to make way for Michael Bradley coming in, then Gilberto may be offloaded if TFC are not allowed 4 DPs. The current rules allow only 3 DPs but the players new "collective bargaining agreement" is currently being negotiated and there are rumours that a 4th DP spot - which can only be occupied by a 'domestic' - may be on the agenda but that would work for TFC as both Altidore and Bradley are 'domestic' in the eyes of the league. The other option is to pay down his salary to a non-DP level using a mechanism called "allocation" money. Its shrouded in mystery most of the time and no-one knows how much each team has but TFC should have enough from all the recent wheeling and dealing to reduce the salary in league terms to make Gilberto a non-DP if he agrees to it (which is by no means certain). If not, we will lose him and most fans would be sorry to see him go .... perhaps ICT can get him on loan to replace Billy !!!! Gilberto's first goal for TFC TFCs stadium expansion for 2015 and 2016

Yogi not happy
I like that Yogi speaks his mind ... it was one of the redeeming features of his predecessor although I now wonder how much of that was calculated and how much was 'off the cuff'. In Yogi's case I think it is pretty much all off the cuff. If not he would have got a few new cliches by now Not experienced the German season but I have to agree that a lot of what they do there (safe standing for example) makes a lot of sense and this sounds like another example of where they tweak their system to suit. I would far rather we look to them than to the English Premiership. MLS over here is predominantly a summer game. The season starts in March and runs right through to November for those teams that reach the playoffs (for TFC that usually means we are done in September or October !). Its a necessity as there are plenty of places in North America where playing in January or February (traditionally the worst weather month on both sides of the pond) would not be possible. However, summer football also brings other pitfalls such as the heat affecting players so its a bit of a tradeoff ..... for TFC we will normally start with a few fixtures away in March while the snow or cold is still here and then as it gets hotter in June/July the games will be scheduled for evenings instead of afternoons. There is also the issue of the domestic calendar not aligning with FIFA which can have an adverse effect. Overall I am a fan of summer football, its far nicer being in the stadium with a refreshing beer in the sunshine than freezing your b*****s off after trudging through a foot of snow ...... but its not the holy grail that some think !

Callum Ferguson
He came into the club shop as I was replenishing my ICT stock on one of my trips home and given the Canadian connection, Laura introduced us and we got talking for a little while. He seems like a very nice lad and I wish him well .... Hoping he can go on to score a few goals for ICT before the end of the season. Canada may not be highly ranked in FIFA terms but overall they are on the rise slowly thanks in large part to MLS initially mandating that teams entering MLS must have dedicated academies and now, in the last few months, coming to a deal that will see every MLS team have a second team in the USL PRO league which will be crucial as an intermediate step between academy and first team. The TFC academy has been producing some good talent (Doneil Henry just signed for West Ham, Mike Petrasso now at QPR, Dylan Carreiro at Dundee) Calum is also in good company with the Canadian U20 team this year. Theres a couple of TFC first team squad members (Manny Aparicio and Jordan Hamilton) and one of his team-mates - Cyle Larin - just became the first Canadian ever to be picked #1 in the MLS draft (so basically viewed as the top prospect in North America this year)

3G at TCS?
Womens world Cup here in Canada this year will be played on turf ... and is very controversial, to the extent that it has spawned a lawsuit citing the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Funnily enough, not a single game will be played at the "national stadium" (Toronto FC's BMO Field) ... a natural grass pitch that used to be turf, and may eventually go back to being a hybrid (Desso Grassmaster). This is not because of any problems with the organisers wanting it all to be played on plastic, but because Toronto hosts the PanAM games at the same time so they did not submit a bid to the Canadian Soccer Association to be one of the host cities. There are 6 stadiums being used and all have artificial grass. 3 of the stadiums (Edmonton, Winnipeg and Ottawa) are home to CFL teams (Canadian version of the NFL) and use Field Turf which is pretty much a necessity due to weather and the pounding the field takes. The stadium in Moncton is mainly a university athletic stadium and also uses Field Turf, whilst the 2 fields that normally play host to MLS teams in Vancouver and Montreal will use Polytan Liga Turf and Xtreme Turf respectively I have read quite a few articles (some linked below) but think this is the most balanced from a Canadian perspective: http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014/08/22/why-the-worlds-best-female-soccer-players-should-accept-playing-on-fake-grass-at-the-world-cup/ Other articles http://globalnews.ca/news/1603131/fifa-officials-to-inspect-bc-place-turf-in-light-of-controversy/ http://globalnews.ca/news/1593031/players-file-lawsuit-in-canada-over-artificial-womens-world-cup-turf/ http://espn.go.com/espnw/news-commentary/article/11593863/julie-foudy-talks-turf-fifa http://www2.tsn.ca/soccer/story/?id=461567 https://www.coworker.org/petitions/fifa-the-world-cup-should-be-played-on-natural-grass http://equalizersoccer.com/tag/2015-turf-war/

Collum
most referees have their moments but Gollum is consistently bad. A good referee - at whatever level - does not need to control the game with cards. That's the mark of someone who feels inadequate or insecure and needs to compensate for that by dishing out yellows and reds. Its the refereeing equivalent of a steward who picks on folk and feels like a big man (or woman) to make up for their rejected police application form ! In both cases, neither should be anywhere near a football pitch !

Kilmarnock -V- Inverness CT SPFL
Raven Mad! Inverness defender David Raven saw red early in the second half after he felled Josh Magennis to provide Alexei Eremenko with the opener from the penalty spot. Raven had also been booked in the first half for a dangerous tackle which could easily have been red. From hero to zero for Raven in the space of a week. Billy Mckay continued his mini scoring spree by getting both Inverness' goals to turn the game on it's head as the ten men took all three points up a snowy A9. That was Mckay's fourth goal in the last three games, great return from the wee man who scores when he wants, and this result moves Inverness back into third place for now, albeit temporarily as Dundee United have still to play Hamilton. The Real Mckay It was a horrendous day weatherwise as the sides entered the park. Strong winds and heavy rain/sleet showers greeting the players and fans alike and the long journey back to Inverness would take a bit longer than normal with driving conditions poor over Drumochter. Ryan Christie dropped to the bench to make way for Ross Draper in midfield in an otherwise unchanged side from the one that beat St Mirren. Allan Johnstone added some punch to his shot shy squad with Lee Miller starting ahead of Chris Johnston and Craig Slater putting Jamie Hamill on the bench. It's over 700 minutes since Killie had scored from open play and the local fans showed they are not happy by staying at home. Like Kenny McLean did at Inverness last week, Greg Tansey waged a one man war on the opposition goal firing in a number of long range shots, Samson equal to those that were on target, tipping one particular wind aided effort over the bar in style. The visitors were making all the early running and the sharpness of Billy Mckay was troubling the Killie defence. He turned his marker on the inside right position but his shot was blocked for a corner as he sprinted clear. Eremenko eventually managed to find himself in the opposition half and he let fly from 35 yards. Josh Meekings saw the danger and headed the ball just over with Brill flying across his goalmouth just in case. This woke Killie up a bit and the same player was just too high with a free kick from the other side of the park, and Lee Miller had Brill scrambling across his line, but his shot on the turn was always going wide, good effort though. Half Time 0-0 Raven was the scapegoat just after the break, but not before Tansey had once more warmed the palms of Samson. A through ball was missed by Warren in front of the back line allowing Magennis to break into the box. Raven tried his best to cover for the error but only succeeded in tumbling the burly striker. Red card for Raven and the unflappable Eremenko despatched the resultant spot kick effortlessly. Goal for Killie, but still not from open play. Raven knew the score and never looked back as he made his way off the pitch. He had been booked for a clumsy tackle in the first half and a second yellow would have been enough to send him for an early bath. The fall guy Magennis spurned a great chance to double the advantage and score without the aid of a set-piece but headed tamely over the bar from six yards with Brill lying on the deck after pushing out an angled drive from Rory Mackenzie. Killie should have been in heaven by now, one goal to the good and Inverness having to play virtually the whole second half with ten men. We don't do lying down though and the men from the North rolled up their sleeves and took the game to their hosts. Billy Mckay scored a stunning equalising goal. A wonderful flighted ball round the back of the Killie defence from Nick Ross allowed Mckay to run onto the curling pass. Billy had plenty to do with three defenders around, but he took the first one out by flicking the ball over him onto his left foot. Two steps to his left saw off the others and he smashed the ball home from eight yards. Paul Gasgoine eat yer heart out! The wee man wasn't done though and himself and Nick Ross teed up an opportunity for Doran but his shot went wide as Inverness continued to hold the upper hand. Lee Miller almost snuck one in but the attention of Graeme Shinnie was enough for the big striker to poke the ball the wrong side of the post in a rare attack from the Ayrshire side. Samson pulled off another great save to deny Tansey once more, pushing the ball away for a corner. The winner was coming though and another stunning goal it was. This one was made and scored by none other than Billy Mckay with a neat assist from the intelligent Nick Ross. Mckay robbed a Killie player some 15 yards into the Inverness half. He made a bee line for the home penalty area cutting across field from the left before playing on to Ross who delayed perfectly before reversing the ball to the overlapping Mckay. He never broke stride to strike a low shot into Samson's bottom right corner for a tremendous goal. Full Time 1-2 That ended the scoring and what a way to send the visiting fans home. Two better strikes from the same player in the same match you will be hard pushed to see. It was a brave performance from Inverness after going down to ten men, but no more than they deserved. Kilmarnock have still to get rid of the unwanted tag of not scoring from open play for so long. Rig seems to agree about the weather and with the choice of players who were performing well and he commented thus on CTO:- Superb result considering the circumstances and also the weather which was truly horrendous in parts. One Dean Brill kick looked like it had some real distance on it only to be held up in the air being sent back towards the ICT goal. Awful conditions to play football in. I can see why a lot of Killie fans are frustrated. That game should have been yours after the sending off and penalty but for some reason Kilmarnock became very negative and struggled to make their man advantage count. Credit to Hughes and the players for remaining disciplined and hitting so effectively on the counter. Mckay was absolutely magnificent. His hold up play was a joy to watch and his goals were well taken. Nick Ross also did well supporting the attack and he grabbed two assists yesterday. With Watkins out just now he's certainly impressing. tm4tj MotM:- Oh well, he scores when he wants and he did just that today. Mckay was the main difference, turning attacks into opportunities all on his own and converting said chances with aplomb. He might not be here next season, but while he is we will cherish every moment. Nick Ross made a telling contribution today and he deserves a mention and Greg Tansey's shoot on site policy is gaining momentum. Ross County -V- Inverness CT
The enjoyment has been legislated out of football in Scotland plain and simple. There has always been a "highland reserve" that sees us a bit less outgoing than some other fans but I have posted here before that this reserve is now multiplied with the addition of a fear of being lifted, kicked out, and/or having a football banning order thrown at you ..... the legislation, whilst correct for the purpose for which it was intended was carelessly written, hastily pushed through, and badly implemented with the end result that virtually anything can get you a conviction that could affect your enjoyment of football and even your career at the whim of a steward or police officer who is having a bad day !!! I see a huge difference when I attend matches on my trips home nowadays compared to before I emigrated. Contrast that with my Toronto season ticket where the renewal paperwork for the supporters sections actually says "Seat Holders in these sections will be permitted to stand persistently throughout matches, as well as use pre-approved flags, banners and drums. For those who would like to sit in these sections, it's important to understand that their view may be obstructed during the match.". The results on field have been absolute crap for 8 years but the atmosphere in the supporters section is normally pretty good with banter, songs, banners ..... and alcohol !!!
