Safe standing
not supporting the rail seating idea. I think most of us would agree on that point unless ICT could actually afford it, but as we have seen with stewards in the past it only takes one 'jobsworth' to make things miserable so there has to be an official difference between explicitly "allowing" standing and unofficially "tolerating" it. Again, I will go back to the Toronto FC example as I do believe it is relevant. From day one in 2007 several sections have been deemed supporters sections (they seem to add additional sections each year - it started with 2 sections now its 10). these sections have the same type of seating as the rest of the ground but in all the club marketing and in the stands themselves there are disclaimers that say your view may be obstructed due to standing/flags etc .... just noticed this on the renewals page for TFC ....

Safe standing
If the club has to put those German style safe standing seats that flip up then its a non-starter, we cant afford it. there's half a dozen threads on this subject over the last couple of years alone and I seem to remember, that this was one of the stumbling blocks last time. If however, the club could designate a specific section to standing without having to retrofit it then personally I think they should go for it !!! As I said on this argument before, my seats at Toronto FC are basically the same as those at the TCS, and at every home game, despite the official rule in MLS being 'all-seated stadia' the 5000+ in the designated "supporters section" that stretches for the full length behind one of the goals are allowed (encouraged) to stand, wave flags and banners, and generate an atmosphere. To my knowledge, despite the raucous atmosphere, the copious amounts of alcohol that is served, and the fact that these sections are normally packed to capacity, there have been no safety issues related to standing .... other than occasional part-timer ending up with a ticket for this section, sitting in their seat and then moaning they cant see !

When has a new player scored on debut before?
This is Ian's officially submitted report and therefore, rightly or wrongly, the club's official record for this game as it relates to scorers ..... I have explained the naming issue so no need to comment further on that. TUESDAY 9th AUGUST 1994 FIRS PARK, FALKIRK COCA-COLA CUP FIRST ROUND EAST STIRLING 0 CALEDONIAN THISTLE 2 (Robertson 36, Hercher 45) EAST STIRLING - Moffat, Watt, Cuthbert, Russell, Yates, R. Lee, I.Lee, Miller, McCallum, Scott (Stirling 70), Geraghty Subs - Imrie & Dempsey CALEDONIAN THISTLE - McRitchie, Brennan, McAllister, Noble, Scott, Andrew, D. MacDonald, McKenzie (Smart 66), Hercher, Bennett, Robertson Subs - Calder & Lisle REFEREE - Mr M. Clark (Edinburgh) ATTENDANCE - 899 MAN OF THE MATCH - Wilson Robertson (Caledonian Thistle) REPORT - A fine performance by Caledonian Thistle in their first competitive match won them a second round tie against Dundee. The home 'keeper Moffat denied both Hercher and McAllister but the deadlock was broken in the 36th minute when Wilson Robertson scored after a 1-2 with Paul MacKenzie. Just on half time they went two ahead - Hercher distracted Ian Lee and a Scott corner ricocheted into the net off the defender. Alan Hercher was credited with the goal. In the second half the result was never in doubt and both MacDonald and Hercher nearly increased the visitors' lead. East Stirling did come close seven minutes from time when John Scott was forced to clear from his line. A few minutes later Robertson and Noble had shots saved by Moffat. In the last minute a Geraghty shot nearly gave East Stirling a consolation goal but it came off the bar. He glosses over the second goal in this excerpt from the season review .... The Club’s first competitive match was a Coca-Cola Cup 1st Round match against East Stirling on Tuesday 9th August 1994. It was played at East Stirling’s Firs Park and Caley Thistle won 2-0. The honour of scoring the first goal went to Wilson Robertson. The following Saturday they played their first Scottish League match at Telford Street and spectacularly beat Arbroath 5-2. Alan Hercher was the local hero with a hat-trick. The Inverness fans came down to earth the following Wednesday when they went out of the Coca-Cola Cup 3-0 at Dundee.

Site Updates
I mentioned before Christmas that we are in the process of planning for and testing the next version of the site which we hope will go live sometime before the 2015/16 season (subject to a stable release of the software). As part of that process we asked for beta-testers a few months ago and I am now looking for a few additional folk to verify and update some of the other data in our pages/info sections which has been pointed out to me is pretty out of date. If you are able/willing to take a few minutes to help, please let me know. Basically all we are looking for this time is for someone to check the data on the following pages and point out the errors or update the new info. Some of it will likely come from the club, but I figure that some of it may also be verifiable by our users ...... http://caleythistleonline.com/page/CTO%20Internal/Club%20Info/general-info : I believe this page is pretty much correct as CaleyD keeps it up to date. http://caleythistleonline.com/page/CTO%20Internal/Club%20Info/travel-info : The directions have not changed but some phone numbers may have done so ... happy to receive suggestions on this or generally updated info. http://caleythistleonline.com/page/index.html/_/history/ : As mentioned on another thread about Ian Broadfoots stats, this is one of the pages he supplied his summaries for. The last season review' was for 2010-11. Perhaps some of our budding writers or media types can help with 2011-12 onwards ? http://caleythistleonline.com/page/CTO%20Internal/Club%20Info/ticket-info : Need to verify prices and info is correct ? http://caleythistleonline.com/page/CTO%20Internal/Club%20Info/pubs-grub-accomodation : Happy to include a few watering holes here provided they are regular supporters/sponsors of the club in some way. same applies for the other stuff. http://caleythistleonline.com/page/CTO%20Internal/Club%20Info/stats-facts : This seems a job for Sneckboy I believe the 'records' on here may have been surpassed given that much of the info came from Ian Broadfoot who has been retired for a few seasons .... I simply have not checked this in a while. Other areas where we may be looking for help prior to next season is with our stats program. One of our users has kindly agreed to look at the underlying structure and sql queries and CaleyD keeps the current squad information and photos up to date as this is required for the club ...... but some of the ex-player profiles could perhaps do with some updating. Same applies to a few instances of missing game data where we are basically looking to get those matches entered. We have the data and info, but its time consuming and boring so not much fun !!!

When has a new player scored on debut before?
At the time it was definitely frequently credited as an OG but I now see where you are coming from Sneckboy. I have just checked Ian Broadfoot's book and he somewhat sits on the fence saying that the official record gives it to Herchie although several other sources credit it as an OG. I have to say that 20 years on that's the first time I've seen it credited as an OG, but that's now what the official record says. No point in asking Herchie... he will claim it for sure!! PS - official records can be wrong and this pedant would point out that the official record in the previous post refers to the club as "Inverness CT" whereas at that time it was simply "CT".... Caledonian Thistle PPS - I'm glad that the uncertainty is about Caley Thistle's second competitive goal and not the first which was definitely Wilson Robertson. Herchie then had his 15 minutes of fame (or rather 19 because that's what it took him), when he got the club's first SFL goal and hat trick v Arbroath four days later. Just to clarify things .... the records displayed in previous posts are showing information that was supplied to us by (retired) club historian Ian Broadfoot who kept meticulous records until a few years ago. His reports, spreadsheets and word documents form the basis of all the stats on this site and also on the official site who pull in the data from the same location using the same program. I believe we started adding our own data based on the public records of the matches themselves, sometime after 2004 but for the first couple of years we verified all of that info with Ian's stats until he retired to deepest darkest Perthshire. It should also be noted that the club is called Inverness CT rather than Caledonian Thistle in the early stats info as the program we use does not allow us to give the club separate names per season (otherwise we would have done so). Incidentally, I believe we still have a few seasons to add by hand (a boring and repetitive task) so if anyone is volunteering .......

Early bird catches the worm Greg Tansey scored inside three minutes to give the visitors an early lead, but despite creating plenty, it took until the hour mark before they eventually nabbed a second goal through Ryan Christie. The Buddies looked down and out at this point but the home side were thrown a lifeline when Jim Goodwin scored with a header after a corner. With the bulk of the possession, Inverness did enough to claim all three points as they held on for a 1-2 victory. RIG was at the game and he has posted his report on CTO In the first half I thought we were excellent. Our passing was quick, crisp and positive. We carved Saint Mirren apart on numerous occasions and, as many have said, could have been out of site by half time. Watkins passed up a couple of good chances. One, similar to those against Partick the other week, where he burst in behind the defence but sent his effort wide. The other he tried to lob Ridgers who blocked his initial effort and then from the follow up Watkins skewed the ball wide. Meekings had a header come off the bar. Some folk said that it might have gone in but even from the normally non conclusive highlights it doesn't look like it's anywhere near going over. Draper also had a good chance as well but his effort was blocked by the backside of a Saint Mirren defender. Luckily we did find a way through and it was from great build up down the left and, more incredibly, from a throw in which we are normally dreadful at. Shinnie played a neat interchange with Christie (I think), receiving the ball back and headed goal wards before cutting the ball back to Tansey who was arriving at the edge of the box and he coolly passed the ball into the net. Great goal from an ICT perspective. As above we dominated the first half but seemed to lose our way in the second half somewhat. Similar to games against Ross County and Partick Thistle in recent weeks it looked like we might pay for not holding a bigger lead. Our passing seemed to become less adventurous and more focused on keeping the ball but minus the attacking intent we had seen in the first half. Saint Mirren looked a lot livelier and more resilient in the second half and we struggled for a time to break them down. Fortunately we did grab a second goal when Raven managed to break down the right and play in Christie who, after what looked like an amazing piece of skilful miscontrol, sent Ridgers the wrong way and doubled our lead. Saints struck back when a corner was met by Goodwin as he out muscled Warren and steered a header past Esson. After that we had our backs to the wall for most of the rest of the game and MccAusland passed up two great opportunities to draw Saint Mirren level. The first, again from a corner, found him free towards the back post but he couldn't quite bring the Buddies back on level terms. The second chance, perhaps the better of the two, came fro ma free kick which evaded everyone and found its way to MccAusland who seemed somewhat taken aback that it had gotten as far as him, and he couldn't adjust his body to get a header on target. A fine result which should have been more emphatic than the scoreline depicts but thankfully we got away with passing up some of those great chances. It will be interesting to see how we rectify the apparent easing off in games after a good start. Hughes seems to be aware of this (based on his post match interview) but we haven't seen any changes yet to stop this from happening. We dropped a vital two points against County because of it so hopefully it won't happen again. I voted no for a few reasons ...... I would rather see St Mirren go down automatically and if County were to end up in the playoff spot then its not a leap to think they would be playing some team from Govan and as others have said ... be careful what you wish for ! Also, its far more fun having them perpetually in our shadow in the same division, and pissing off the central belters by having to make twice as many trips to the Highlands every year !- BBC TV coverage

Partick Jagged Inverness moved into the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup after stinging this seasons bogey side Partick Thistle. First half counters by Marley Watkins and Greg Tansey were scant reward for a brilliant first forty-five from the visitors. Partick needed to up their game in the second half and they did just that. Returning striker Lyle Taylor scored to open the door for the hosts to make it an anxious last twenty-five for Inverness. They almost got the replay they were seeking but for a tremendous save by Dean Brill's replacement, Ryan Esson, who tipped away a netbound header from Danny Seabourne as the game drew to a conclusion. Great result for Inverness who enter Monday's draw along with Celtic, Hibernian, Queen of the South, Falkirk, Dundee United. Spartans and Berwick have a replay to contend with and the Rangers play Raith Rovers later today. Immortal Howden Ender had this to say :– A game of two halves or probably two quarters and a half. As I suspected Yogi had wound them up to the hilt in a pre-match “forget wee Billy” address. They came out of the traps like greyhounds on heat and nearly caught the stuffed rabbit at the first corner. We completely and utterly dominated the first 20-25 minutes and sailed through the remainder of the half. Just before the quarter hour Marley Watkins should have opened the account but fluffed the finish. Marley was not to be denied and slotted in a well taken finish hardly a minute later. It was however fashioned by the very impressive Ross Draper. Thistle defender Stephen O'Donnell played a terrible to pass to Abdul Osman in the middle of the park who was robbed by our feisty Ross. The ball fell to Marley who held off Frederic Frans before clipping it low past Paul Gallacher to put us 1-0 up. Moments later Watkins was one-on-one again after Nick Ross sent him away but this time his low effort slid inches past the post. Now at this point we should have been 3-0 up and before the inevitable comment of “But if wee Billy was there he would have scored a hat trick” – NOT – Watkins may not be, and sorry never will be a centre forward, but he fashioned the chances through strength and pace. Wee Billy would not have got himself in those positions. And then I recalled our previous league visit to Firhill when we cruised for 20 minutes, went 1-0 up and then imploded and left 1-3. There was a slight PTSD feeling but that was well and truly therapised by Greg Tansey and what has to be a major contender for Goal of the Season. Good old O'Donnell again lost possession in midfield and Greg Tansey picked the ball up 30 yards from goal. Tansey advanced forward, like a modern day Archie Gemmill, shimmied past Frans like a Scouse ballerina and struck a superb right foot shot into the bottom left hand corner of Gallacher's goal. Half Time 0-2 And then came the second half, possibly as long a second half as I have witnessed in a long time. Thistle came out like a bunch of Taz’s and our back four must have felt that they were starring in a remake of the Alamo. To be fair they stood firm – too feckin deep for my liking – but Warren and Meekings were immense and there was a true Churchillian feel to the determination – ably abetted by one Ryan Esson. He first produced a fine diving save on the hour to deny Stuart Bannigan. His handling was awry at times but he is more than a capable stand in for Deano. Lyle Taylor then threw the Jags a massive lifeline – and got a MotM from the home support for it !! -when he latched on to O'Donnell's long ball over the top and he appeared to out-muscle Josh Meekings, TV evidence seemed to show that Taylor fouled Meekings but he got away with it. The Alamo then joined forces with the Mafeking. It was boering and nerve tingling to watch but we deservedly survived. And thanks for that go to Ryan Esson who produced a “world class save” in the 90th minute with a superb diving save to earn us a place in Monday's draw. Full Time 1-2 Ginger Jaggy agrees and added:- Same sentiment as everyone else about the game. Great first half helped by a very disjointed Partick defence where we should have been out of site and Marley could have grabbed a load of headlines with a great hat trick. He was brilliant running the defence ragged but he isn't a natural scorer and that was shown in his first chance that he hit straight at the keeper. If we are to continue with him front we have to give a couple of the young lads a chance or bring in one or two because he will run himself into the ground he had to come off 10 mins before the end. I don't think the second half was as bad as people make out as I think we could have scored more but we lacked a final ball. We did become hemmed in after a dodgy goal by Taylor that looked a foul and we were left hanging on. With Watkins running out of steam we lacked an out ball but we got through and deservedly so. The away support was great and fingers crossed we get a decent draw we could get at least one trip to Hampden hopefully two. Well Ginger Jaggy got his wish as we drew Raith Rovers at home in the next round. Ties to be played on 7th or 8th March.
