  1. Aaron Doran makes it 0-1. Ya feckin beauty !!!!
  2. Here to stay Inverness surrendered a two goal lead in Glasgow to let Celtic take a point from a match they looked like getting nothing from after thirty-five minutes, when goals from Aaron Doran and Richie Foran put the Highlanders 0-2 ahead. Charlie Mulgrew reduced the deficit just before half time and Adam Mathews completed the comeback eight minutes from time to give Celtic an unlikely share of the spoils, a result which keeps Inverness perched on top of the league. On this showing we look like we are here for the long haul. Inverness came into this match as SPFL leaders, and after a tough ninety-three minutes they are still on top. Celtic had to go chasing the game, and they did that well, but the result could have been different had Doran not delayed his decision in the box, allowing van Dijk to bundle him over without being penalised and the chance to extend the lead was lost, the rest is now history. Immortal Howden Ender sampled the delights of Glasgow prior to the game, meeting up with the usual Caley Away fans and has this report for us.............. WE’RE STILL TOP OF THE LEAGUE AND YOU’RE NO !! Q. When was the last time that ICT headed to Parkhead sitting at the top of the Premier League, went 2-0 up, scraped a point and stayed top of the Premier League ? A. Saturday 24th August 2013 – yet another fine TerryandMo AwayDay. It was also a day when the football gods were looking after us and helped our cause by creating defeats for Aberdeen and St Johnstone, leaving us three points ahead of Celtic, with a game in hand, but crucially standing aloft with by far the best goal difference. The faithful were in good numbers and in good voice in the London Road Tavern prior to the game and it was nice to see the Hoop mates of Mikey Diamond shaking our hands and joining in the tribute chant. I reckon we could have persuaded Mikey to bring along a sheep to be slaughtered in a Karagandy manner if he was still around. I am just thankful I didn’t win the raffle and have to take a framed picture of the Pope in a Cellic strip home to us. Shine bright Mikey Diamond......... As for the game I felt that it was unfortunately “shades of the past” from my perspective. I have to take in to account that it was the first time that I have walked in to Parkhead half expecting a result. In the light of the next morning, especially in wake of the other results, it was a hard won point and we really could have lost it in the end. An old cliché but I do really feel that a draw was the fairest result. Celtic may have “dropped” six players from their supposed first eleven but it was only Samaras, Commons and Forrest that were rested. The latter two may have made a difference but it only gave the likes of Watt an opportunity to shine – which he didn’t. Doran had already come close with a free kick but it was a brilliant swerving shot that took us in to the lead on 14 minutes. It was a bit of “even stevens” at that juncture and Brill had already thwarted Balde and Watt. But at that stage we were playing the better football and we really did look like league leaders. In some ways I think that Kayal getting crocked may have saved the game, even at such an early stage. Kayal and the central defenders were simply there for the taking. And we were in dream land ten minutes from half time when Foran bulleted in another header although it looked like Billy McKay had scuffed the initial attempt – but “so what?”. This is where I have to criticise because Celtic regrouped and attacked but I feel that we sat back and tried to ride the storm. As much as I had expected a point before the game my gut instinct was that they were going to pull one back. I felt that there was dithering for once in our back line which allowed Mulgrew to pop in a crucial goal four minutes before the break and we could have then gone in level when Balde should have got a header at least on target. Half Time 1-2 The second half was as long a 45 minutes as I have ever witnessed. We resorted to the “hoof” and in all honesty we never looked like doing anything. Terry appeared to explain that away after the game with the comments: “We played a slightly different way today and had to do that against Celtic. But we like to play attacking football and hopefully we can do that next week against Hearts.” So we decided to park the bus and, similar to the supporters one, a Hoop chucked a brick through the window and dented our 100% record. To be fair the Hoops volleyed bricks at our bus in the second half and we were probably fortunate in the end to escape with that valuable point. Perhaps it was the voddie and the stiffies but I can’t recall us having a real sniff in the second half. The only attacking action was a penalty claim by Doran and it clearly wasn’t. An equaliser looked inevitable but thankfully it did not come until the 82nd minute and it was bum clenching until the final whistle. I may be wrong but again I felt that the central defenders dithered to allow Matthews to net. Full Time 2-2 So it wasn’t the stylish, entertaining ICT but I suppose that we got away with playing a very defensive formation. But we took a two goal lead, away at Parkhead, and came away with a point. I bet Karagandy would be envious of that. The big positive is that the “togetherness” factor is not in any doubt. Brill was certainly tested today and came through with flying colours. I was impressed by his handling and he dealt with more crosses yesterday than the Bishop of Parkhead this morning. The back four were really tested and all gained pass marks, especially Meekings. The rest were on their back foot for most of the game and the defensive style simply does not suit the likes of Vincent, Doran and McKay. Ross was the one that tried to play football but I felt that we were missing a playmaker despite another fine show from Foran. Lets just hope that we see the real ICT next Saturday. And Terry probably summed it all up with his concluding words. "To come here undefeated and leave undefeated, we have had a happy day." Bring on the Jam Tarts. I know the guys who run "Canadian Soccer News" as most are part of our supporters group as well as online journalists and they did an excellent expose of match fixing here in Canada last year. Seems fixing for the purposes of betting are rife everywhere and interestingly enough they also quote an article from FIFpro I read earlier today that links problems with salaries being paid to players by clubs to the increased vulnerability of players falling in with those who seek to fix games .... http://www.canadiansoccernews.com/content.php?3791-CSA-travels-to-Zurich-to-meet-on-CSL-match-fixing
  5. ohh !! chairman's vote of confidence/approval.... he's gone by next weekend then !
  6. As a fan of ICT, who falls firmly in the Caley camp in our club's history, I guess I must have no self respect then !!!! but I do pride myself on not having this kind if parochial attitude. What utter nonsense, and the merchandise rationale sounds more like parsimony than protest ! When I wore it to a TFC game (as seen in the pic above), I got at least 40 or 50 comments from fellow TFC fans that it was a great looking top (despite the model wearing it), it looked different to most other teams, and was pretty much unique .... no-one thought it was "a complete mess" .... personally, I like it !
  7. Scotty replied to Govan Jaggie's topic in Caley Thistle
I was just thinking about that. Whilst reports like the BBC one very much suggested that is the case ("It is alleged Black bet against his "then registered club" three times between March 4, 2006 and July 28, 2013") there is nothing in the SFA Notice of Complaint which specifies when any of the 3 types of offence took place, other than they were within the overall date range mentioned. So unless the media have got hold of further details of the alleged breaches, I suppose it is possible that on March 4 2006 he bet on ICT to win, or on a completely unrelated game. very true .... the 3-10-147 could have been in any order !
  8. no idea of the demographics ... just assumed they were from that neck of the woods given the comments about Clach, working class, and Grassa (who of course is/was associated with a company whose boss was involved at Grant Street). Really - after 20 years, I think it is better to focus on those who are or want to be ICT fans and leave the 'haters' to their own devices. Some may have legitimate 'reasons' in their own minds and I respect those, whereas others may be bandwagon jumpers or excuse makers .... and you just cant reason with them so no point wasting energy ! Anyhow - back to the positivity of this wonderful start to the season ... our best ever in the SP(F)L.

SFA and poorly worded rules .... there's a surprise !!! I think you are correct in thinking the vagueness is designed to try and cover every eventuality and that leaves it open to interpretation, but we all know what the spirit of the rule means ..... However - as we know from the forum rules on here which developed over the last 20 years until I chopped them by about 80% last year - its a double edged sword ... try to cover every possible scenario and you end up with a rulebook that is so unwieldy that few people know what's in it and people can escape on a technicality if you haven't already put it in there ... we now go with the approach that people know what is right/wrong without having to carefully word it and this smacks of something similar.
  10. Most of it sounds like BS !!! I am assuming from the overall response that they may be Merkinchers given the Clach, Grassa, and Working class answers? I know you are just the messenger, but here would be my response ! 1 - Clach chose not to be involved. 2 - If that were the case would there really have been so much venom from the Caley 'anti-merger' brigade? 3 - Not sure he has much control. influence perhaps, or visibility in the media at times, but control, nope. 4 - fair point but the other option (perhaps even the better option) was even further away. 5 - Dont really understand this point? Sounds more like jealousy that some of the board drink/drank in posh bars, or in hospitality and not the Clach Club, Lochiel or Thornbush? DFS and Ken Thomson did buy a few of us beers in the Caley Inn if that counts !!! 6 - Again, not sure what is meant by this ... Define 'working class' ? Over the years our players have not exactly been on high wages compared to most other teams in Scotland. I would say both teams are 'working class' considering they are made up of lower paid players with a point to prove who will eventually move on to a higher level or for higher wages - plenty of examples !
  11. Scotty replied to Govan Jaggie's topic in Caley Thistle
Unless he has done something in the game that is blatant - like the Le Tissier example - then its nigh on impossible to prove. In our game (assuming it is the one on the first date in the complaint) he got booked but not sent off by a ref who had a shockingly inconsistent performance that day. He also had a header cleared off the line that looked like it may have been over the line so it doesnt sound like he was trying to fix the game, just maybe (naively) using "insider knowledge" of injuries and/or other issues in predicting we might lose ..... given his well publicised second career while at Hearts, doesnt sound like he was a very good gambler anyway, otherwise he could have lived off his winnings !!! Having said that, I have a feeling he will get hammered for it despite the clear indication from the SFA that they dont believe he tried to 'fix' games. The 3 times he bet against his own team will see to that, and he probably deserves some punishment for what could be viewed as a lack of sporting integrity rather than criminality. Personally, I have no issues with the other '10' bets involving his registered club as he appears to have bet on them to win (assuming the 'not to win' in charge 1 includes both losing and drawing) ....and I certainly have no issue on the 147 games not involving a club he was with ... that just makes him a punter like anyone else, albeit one who may be better informed than some.
  12. Scotty replied to Govan Jaggie's topic in Caley Thistle
Very true, but they won't bet on their own team to lose a game in which they are playing and could have an influence. The wording of the complaint makes it pretty clear the charge is simply for betting and thereby breaking rule 22 (which basically prevents footballers betting on any football games). Rule 23 is the far more serious rule (match fixing or attempted fixing) and the SFA seem keen to point out that there is no suggestion of a breach of that rule. Sounds like he just made an honest mistake ...... (160 times !) This is the full complaint as listed on the SFA site:
  13. Despite his County leanings, this is a very complimentary article from Rob McLean. Fair play to him giving ICT the credit we deserve http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23763149
  14. Scotty replied to Govan Jaggie's topic in Caley Thistle
If that is the match in question (Mar 4th 2006) then reading the match report it sounds pretty inconclusive ...... he may have bet against us but doesnt sound like he was trying to influence the game negatively .... Black had a header cleared off the line when it looked like it was in, he was yellow carded in 60 minutes but the ref that day (Stevie Conroy) was very inconsistent, and the only goal in Motherwell's 0-1 victory came from a Foran penalty after Tokely tripped up an opposition player in the box ... a stonewaller that saw Tokes booked when he might legitimately have been ordered off .... Black was not subbed that day
  15. Yup, it is nice to be able to talk about the positive stuff and this start to the season has to have been one of the most positive ever ... !!! I am sure we will have our moments as the season progresses, and the naysayers will once again emerge, perhaps with good reason if things do go pear shaped, but for now the boys seem to be brimming with confidence, the boss is on a mission and all is good .... which is what makes the crowd thing all the more noticeable. I am sure there are a multitude of reasons for lower attendances. cost, recession, people who move away to uni or to other cities with jobs etc, some just grow up and/or have other priorities that go higher in the list .... I dont think there is one factor that causes this decline, and its different for all. I am glad you think the forum is capable of increasing the number of bums on seats, but personally I doubt it ... we are an avenue for (some) ICT fans to discuss all things ICT and other topics too, but our influence in terms of increasing the crowd is negligible to say the least .... I can only relate what I experienced last time I was home. My season ticket for a number of years was right above the tunnel in the main stand. Over the years most of the folk stayed the same in that area and we tried to get things going (we even got some parts of the stand singing on a semi-regular basis !!). We were allowed a fair bit of latitude and had a few good old ding-dongs with opposing managers or subs etc, and the "catchphrase humour" you mention that came from a few of us was at times 'quality' stuff ! This was of course primarily in the pre-SPL days !!! ..... wonder how many folk remember Yogi Hughes being chased up the touchline by Frank Connor waving his stick after we were winding Yogi up and FC caught him taking the piss? or the slagging that Ian McCall would take every time he came to the TCS? On my last trip home I sat in the same area for an SPL game and it was a morgue. Speaking to a few people afterwards, the reasoning given was that those same worthies had been warned off by stewards and/or club officials and told they would lose season tickets or be ejected/arrested if they stood, chanted, swore at opposition staff etc .... banter was well and truly gone. It was a "sit-down-shut-up" situation. Part of this was down to who was calling the matchday shots for the club at the time (no longer there), and the rest was because of how he was reacting to or interpreting all the various rules/regulations laid down by the SPL ... being in the big boy league comes with responsibilities and the mantra seemed to be "better safe than sorry" !!! If I had been a neutral I would not have come back - that was not an entertaining day despite the lads winning on the park ! To me, football is a means of releasing the tension and frustration of a working week and being treated this way was increasing that tension, not giving it an outlet. Obviously I don't experience it first hand any more, but it does seem to be changing for the better ... We can frequently hear what I assume are the young lads singing coming across on the audio feeds, and we see less threads on here about stewarding issues so I assume they are behaving and the stewards leave them alone (for the most part) ... if we can take it to the next level and make the rest of the day out enjoyable then maybe things will improve .... how we do that I do not know ...
  16. I actually agree with DC on this one !!! I mentioned something similar in the matchday thread. ICT, top of the league, 2 wins from 2 (now 3 from 3), undefeated, no goals conceded, playing last year's runners-up who normally ensure an entertaining game and we cannot encourage more than 3K ? I get the whole economic argument, recession etc. I understand all that. I also can't really be the person in that glass house to throw stones and slag anyone off for not going to the games considering I have not been to one myself for quite some time! (getting up early on a Saturday morning and doing the Radio Scotland thing doesn't really count) ... so my question is more general .... After our best ever finish in the SPL last year, no summer football like a "Euro" or "WC" to keep us interested how is it that only 2 home games into a long season we already appear to be struggling to get more than 3000 ICT fans into our ground and what can we do to rectify that ?
  17. When the volume of posts calling out other users exceeds the number of posts discussing the topic, it IS flaming and/or trolling .. Voicing opinions is fine, but derailing topics is not. My post was a friendly "nudge" to get the topic back on track ... ignore it or disagree with me if you like, but if the topic continues down the same road then we will just exclude those who want to keep it off track from the thread and move on.
  18. ok, this thread is getting close to flaming/trolling (if it is not there already). Lets get back on topic.
  19. 3+1+2....... Maybe "home goals" was what was meant ? but that would only be 2 home games .... either way, its a great feeling to be in this position after the first trio of games .... in the same position next week would be even better !
  20. crowd elsewhere is kind of irrelevant though isnt it ... ICT .... a good season last year .... top of the league this year, undefeated in 3, no goals conceded, and a match against last year's second best team which is usually a ding-dong affair .... what more do we need to get a better crowd than 3031 !!!
  21. This is "other football" - if all you want to see is ICT stick to the ICT forum. please dont tell others what they can and cannot discuss in a forum created for just that purpose ... even if it is the Rangers !
  22. not announced yet .... sounds low though - the County fan mentioned this in his commentary ! in fact, just as I am typing this, you can hear the announcer saying 3031
  23. Billy McKay 2-0 - guess he wanted to score :ictscarf: :ictscarf: ...and even better is Rob McLean having to talk about how well we are doing while his beloved County are getting humped !
  24. Inverness Brush Well Aside Inverness kept their excellent start to the season going after brushing Motherwell aside with some sweeping moves in a scintillating first half that gave them a cushion to defend in a more even second forty-five. Two superb goals from the head of captain Richie Foran and the foot of Billy McKay made it three out of three to maintain our 100% record and another clean sheet was an added bonus in a highly entertaining match. A blustery day saw Motherwell visit Inverness with a much changed squad from the one that ripped us apart in the early games last year. Gone were Jamie Murphy, Michael Higdon, Henrik Ojamaa, Chris Humphrey, Nicky Law, and keeper Darren Randolph. James McFadden remains, but new signings Iain Vigurs and Paul Lawson will need to show more, although Henri Anier looks a useful addition and John Sutton should fill the Higdon shaped hole up front for the Steelmen. As expected, Inverness were unchanged from last week with Dean Brill once more in the nets and James Vincent pulling the strings. Agdestein, Polworth and Williams would come off the bench in the latter stages as Butcher freshened tired legs up and a disappointing crowd of just over 3,000 settled in their seats ready for action, some 250 of them in the away end. It was the home fans who were given the opportunity to get off their bums first and with only four minutes on the clock, the brisk Inverness attackers scored the opener, and what a goal it was. Motherwell boss McCall might well be disappointed with his defence, but when Graeme Shinnie's curling free kick swung into the box, Foran bulleted a diving header across the keeper and into the net from around twelve yards. Brilliant start to the game for Inverness and just what the home fans needed to erase last seasons drubbing from the memory banks. Inverness turned the screw and Vincent had a shot charged down with the goal at his mercy and the lively McKay likewise, McManus and Hutchinson doing their utmost with last ditch blocks. However, it was one way traffic and the dazzling attacking display from the home side was a joy to behold. With Inverness very much on the front foot, a brilliant team goal ended the scoring, but not the entertainment. Doran and Raven combined beautifully to tee up Billy McKay who finished superbly by stroking the ball into the bottom corner from fifteen yards. McKay was causing the big Well defence all sorts of problems with his darting runs and clever flicks and one such move saw him set up an opportunity for Vincent who spectacularly volleyed narrowly wide of the mark. Inverness were rampant now and Motherwell worked hard to contain the eager home side and but for some timely interventions we could have been looking at a cricket score but the referee intervened and blew for half time for McCall to get to work over the interval. Half Time 2-0 McCall rang the changes after the break and introduced Carswell and the strapping Henri Anier who looks a decent player and it was the latter who was denied by a crucial Raven block as he was about to pull the trigger on a McFadden cross. The game was more even now and Inverness had a lucky escape as Hutchinson headed over after Brill missed a cross from the Well left. Another scare soon after when Vigurs crumbled in the box as Raven slid in but Brines was not interested. Shame. Anier almost scored a consolation with five minutes left but he hammered a close range effort just over the corner of the bar, and that was the closest Motherwell came to breeching the Inverness rearguard. But, it was not all about Motherwell and Foran and McKay passed up glorious chances to extend the lead as the Steelmen chased the game. Aaron Doran forced Hollis into making a great save to deny the Irishman as he sprinted into the box, but his high angled drive was pushed away by the keeper. Full-Time 2-0 Motherwell had run out of ideas before the end and Inverness held on for a well deserved win to keep them at the right end of the table. Make no bones about it, this was an excellent performance from Inverness who stroked the ball around confidently and scored a couple of cracking goals. I expect Celtic will offer a much stiffer test next week, but lets just wallow in the glory of our opening three games for now. tm4tj MotM:- Well, I concurred with the sponsors who had Richie Foran as their pick. He scored a fabulous goal and was dictating the flow of the game. In the second half when Well pushed for a foothold, he was at the heart of the defence mopping up everything, great captains performance from him. Mckay and Doran caused all sorts of problems for Motherwell and in the second half Warren got better and better as the game wore on. Overall just a great team performance Date: 17.08.2013 Venue: Caledonian Stadium Attendance: 3031 Referee: Iain Brines Inverness CT: 2 Lineup: Brill, Raven, Warren, Meekings, Shinnie, Foran, Draper, Ross, Doran (Williams 90), Vincent (Polworth 82), McKay (Agdestein 84) Subs (not used): Esson, Devine, Greenhalgh, Pepper Scorers: Foran (4), McKay (36) Booked: Shinnie (43), Meekings (54) Sent Off: none Motherwell: 0 Lineup: Hollis, Hammell, Ramsden, Hutchinson, McManus, McFadden (Francis-Angol 66), Lawson (Carswell 46), Sutton, Vigurs, Lasley, McHugh (Anier 46) Subs (not used): Nielsen, Erwin, Kerr, Moore Scorers: none Booked: Vigurs (80) Sent Off: none
