  1. It should be quite straightforward really ..... The various Scottish football authorities are a 'member organisation' so they could make it a condition of membership that the clubs adhere to the UEFA club licensing documentation with regards to finances (and any other part). UEFA are phasing their new 'break-even' ethos into the game and that basically says that by 2014 "Under the break-even requirement, clubs may not spend more than the income they generate.": http://www.uefa.com/uefa/footballfirst/protectingthegame/financialfairplay/news/newsid=1500331.html Club Licensing document attached: 1500912_DOWNLOAD.pdf
  2. I think they could actually make that up !!! If they cant sign or get rid of players then they have the squad to do it ! Its a squad that was for the most part regarded as shoe-ins to win D1 last year. I had a quick read of the DFC forums and saw the outrage, I also note the comments above from the club themselves but bottom line is that this punishment is more lenient than those handed out to either Livi or Gretna and does actually give them a chance. I also agree that blame is being shifted here .... the ones at fault are the ones who did not pay the taxman, who allowed money to be spent like water (in more than one season) in an effort to reach the SPL, who allowed the club to accumulate an alleged ?2m in debt less than 7 years after going through the process once already .... these are the people who should be the targets of outrage, not The SFL who have - in my mind - had their hands tied a little by the timing and imposed the only penalty they really could have at this point in the season. I still think they went softer on Dundee than the others but as I read more, I think this is all about timing rather than favouritism. to play Devil's advocate ..... IF ICT had not won the league last year would we have continued to spend on players in an effort to reach the SPL next year or the year after ? As much as we the fans might have demanded it, I think we would not. Our SPL push was a one season deal ... we do it at the first time of asking or we have to regroup, lose a lot of players and rebuild at a sustainable level. Luckily, all the pieces fell into place for us so we are not having that discussion, but this seems to have been the Dundee model over the last few years. I also have to wonder about Club Licensing ??? As far as I can remember, UEFA club licensing covers finances and there are some pretty strong rules in there to try and guard against financial irregularities. I know the SPL take it all very seriously but do the SFL ? If not, why not ?
  3. Re-reading the statement, I think I have worked out the rationale ..... point 3 is the main one In the case of Liv and Gretna, most of the troubles came to a head in between seasons or towards the end of a season so promotion/relegation was less of an issue .... right now we are only a third of the way into the season so instant relegation is not an option as you would affect every single team in D1, D2 & D3 by rejigging and promoting other teams. the March deadline gives them a chance to apply the same punishment if it is not sorted out by then. I still say it stinks, but I can see the rationale. They are going to have to have one hell of a season to escape relegation ... and if they do I can see even more controversy.
  4. Hearts confirmed last week that he can stay and they are paying 100% of his wages.
  5. Starchief - I dont agree .... Bottom line is that none of the three clubs could/can guarantee to fulfil fixtures. The administrator could pull the plug at any time .... In the case of Gretna, the Mileson monies were the only thing keeping the club afloat. They had no debt per say - certainly not ?2m as is alleged to be the case for Dundee - just a sugar daddy keeping them solvent. Once his money was removed, they lost solvency quickly, accumulated debt, and we all know the result. Relegation to D1 might have actually kept the club alive. They had buyers waiting, and you would assume these buyers would try to cut the cloth to suit. They might have ended up back in D2 or D3 depending on how deep the cuts had to be but dropping them straight into D3 effectively killed the club as those buyers just pulled out. In the case of Livi, their story is very much aligned with us ... we know they climbed the ranks with us and for a few years got to the next level ahead of us but again, the money side wasnt sustainable. Massone appears to have been the final nail in the coffin and it took a threat of liquidation to force him to turn over his shares to the administrator who in turn accepted the bid on the table. The buyers put a bond of nearly ?750,000 in place with the SFL to guarantee their participation in fixtures so to say they could not or would not participate is bogus and this is what made them appeal the decision and refuse to take part in their opening D3 fixtures.
  6. Press Statement (apologies for the all caps - thats how the SFL displayed it on their site and I cant be bothered retyping it all) http://www.scottishfootballleague.com/news/article/press-statement-2010-11-01/
  7. Seems to be little or no clarity here ...... The precedent has been set twice already and although I dont want Dundee to go out of business, I fail to see why they are any different to Livi or Gretna. In fact, as much as we can loathe both Livi and Gretna for the way in which they rose high and fast due to money poured into them then dropped like a stone when the money dried up, each of them only went into administration once ... this is Dundee's second flirtation with disaster and yet they get a slap on the wrist (albeit a big one) while the others got a punishment that did put one of them out of business and almost put the other one out. Dundee fined 25pts after Administration. Livingston relegated from D1 to D3 after Administration then Liquidation proceedings commenced. Liquidation never happened as that was the straw that broke Massone's back and he sold his shares the next day. Reason for relegation was "A breach of rules". Gretna relegated from SPL to D3 after Administration. Subsequently went out of business. Reason for relegation was "due to their inability to guarantee fulfilment of their forthcoming fixtures".
  8. Smith will get it ..... and deservedly so. Hearts 1-2 Rangers Rangers 4-1 Motherwell Celtic 1-3 Rangers Rangers 1-1 ICT 10 out of a possible 12 points including a win over Celtic and although they arent supposed to consider other results, some pretty decent ones in Europe too. ICT 2-0 Aberdeen ICT 1-1 St Johnstone Kilmarnock 1-2 ICT Rangers 1-1 ICT 8 out of a possible 12 points but two draws, even if one was against Rangers. Close but no cigar (or red wine) for our Terry. Player of the Month is harder. Kenny Miller won it the first couple of months but perhaps Skacel for his immediate impact at Hearts this month ? Young player for me would definitely be Nick Ross.
  9. The only thing that is certain (to me) is that at some point in the future we will lose the likes of Hayes, Rooney and Odhiambo to 'bigger' teams, especially if they continue to perform well. We simply do not have the resources to match most other teams and unfortunately, money talks. Having said that, from comments made by at least two of those players, and I get the impression it applies to all three, I dont think money is the be-all and end-all for them so we might hold onto them for longer than we would think, but they must also have aspirations of playing for their country and that is more easily achievable if they are at a club traditionally regarded as a 'big' club. It doesnt matter that we know ICT are a big club .... others still regard us as a 'wee highland team'. Both halves of the OF have a tradition of buying the best players from other teams and leaving them rotting in the reserves. Whether any of them go to the OF via another team or there directly is up for discussion but I am just happy we have all three right now and hope we do all we can to keep them for as long as possible. I also think the likes of Ross and Shinnie could be added to this discussion. They have both shown excellent promise and unlike the aforementioned three have come up through the ranks .... I wonder if it will be easier to keep them or whether they would also be tempted .....
  10. its not a rumour .... so it should be ICT (Jonny Hayes) or NON-ICT (Celtic). The mods can decide which one
  11. just for clarification, we have NOT ended Rangers' unbeaten run, we have ended their streak of 9 wins in a row. It seems they are never destined for 10 in a row , but they are still unbeaten in the league.
  12. to hell with hanging on, lets score a winner ..... Rangers pushing and Hayes or Eric just need one chance to make a break .......
  13. Eric's bundle of joy. Substitute Eric Odhiambo kept Inverness' unbeaten away run going with a late equaliser at Ibrox after Maurice Edu had given Rangers the lead early in the first half with a thumping shot after mis-controlling the ball. With nine minutes left, Eric Odhiambo bundled the ball home to square the match. Richie Foran and Jonny Hayes spurned great opportunities to take all three points up the A9 and Rangers keeper Alan Macgregor kept the score down with the save of the day from Foran's downward header as Butchers boys looked very accomplished on the big stage. The late leveller was no more than Inverness deserved after soaking up some first half pressure from the home side, and displayed some attacking options of their own in the second half with Jonny Hayes shredding the defenders at will. 30th October 2010 Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow RANGERS 1 - Edu (11) TEAM: McGregor, Weir, Broadfoot, Papac, Bougherra, McCulloch, Edu (Naismith 46), Davis, Weiss (Fleck 46), Miller, Lafferty SUBS: Alexander, Foster, Whittaker, Loy, Hutton - Booked: McCulloch (76), Weir (84) INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE 1 - Odhiambo (81) TEAM: Esson, Tokely, Munro, Shinnie, McCann, Duff, Duncan, Hayes, Ross (Odhiambo 72), Foran, Rooney (Sutherland 90) SUBS: Tuffey, Golabek, McBain, Morrison, Sanchez - Booked: Foran (25), Munro (70) Referee Iain Brines Attendance 43697 Unbeaten spoiled the Unblemished at Ibrox as Rangers dropped their first points of the season to Inverness. Rangers were looking to head towards a 112 year record start to the season, and Inverness were looking to preserve a proud unbeaten away record stretching back to the heady days of the first division last November. Something had to give and it was the Gers faultless start that came to an end. Rangers lined up with McGregor restored to the gloves, and a back line of Broadfoot, Weir, Bougherra and the unfortunate Papac (more later). The midfield saw Davis, McCulloch, Weiss and Edu, with Lafferty and the prolific Miller up front. The visitors started with one change from the Kilmarnock game which meant that McCann replaced Odhiambo and went in at right back which allowed Stuart Duff to bolster the midfield alongside Russell Duncan. Youngsters Graeme Shinnie and Nick Ross started and new dad Grant Munro and Ross Tokely were the centre backs. Jonny Hayes (see Papac) and Richie Foran were the providers for a lone Adam Rooney. Who else but the magnificent Ryan Esson kept goal for ICT and he made a number of important saves blocks and interceptions throughout the game. By kick off a vocal Caley Thistle support were on their seventeenth rendition of “Caley Thistle Champions”, no doubt aided by the pre-match aperitif’s in Brechins, one of Govan’s finest hostelries, and even the Immortal Howden Ender made it back to Ibrox in time for kick off, this time with his tickets in his pocket. Hemmed in to the wee triangle in the corner, the four hundredish away fans were creating more atmosphere than 43,000 bears. Naelifts turned up looking for trouble, but as he pointed out, what’s the problem. Inverness kicked off in bright sunshine on a lush Ibrox pitch and started the game briskly forcing Rangers onto the back foot. Just when the away support thought we had settled the better, Rangers broke the deadlock with an unusual goal to say the least. A probing ball into the edge of the box found Edu in between the defenders, he tried to bring the ball down but missed it, however, to his delight, when he recovered from his embarrassment, the ball was still there, right in front of him and he lashed an unstoppable shot high past a diving Esson into the keepers top left corner. Brilliant finish, but a somewhat fortuitous break for Rangers, and despair for Inverness who had matched the champions up to that moment. Rangers were now on the ascendancy and Esson stopped a Miller effort after a brisk run at the Inverness defence. More home pressure saw Weir and Lafferty head harmlessly wide. Richie Foran was booked after catching scorer Edu with a tough challenge on the halfway line, the Rangers player failing to shrug off the knock staying in the dressing room at half time, along with Weiss. With Rangers being unable to shake off Inverness, the visitors grew in confidence and the tricky pocket rocket Jonny Hayes was about to start his own Halloween on the unsuspecting Papac. As half time approached the Highlanders began to encroach on the Rangers half of the field and this was to be the theme for the second half. Almost on half time, Adam Rooney smuggled the ball from Weir and almost made them pay for slackness at the back, but the ball broke away from him for a goal kick. Half Time: Rangers 1-0 Inverness CT. With the start of the second half, you could sense a change in presence. Inverness began confidently and Weir and Foran clashed in the box before young Nick Ross saw the headlines in front of him as he lashed a volley wide. Naismith and Fleck were the Rangers replacements at half time. The influential Steven Davis came close for Rangers as they looked to kill off the Highland uprising, but as play was now raging from end to end Alan McGregor stole the show with an outstanding save. Jonny Hayes turned Papac inside out and sat a cross up for Foran to meet as he raced into the box. His downward header was text book, but McGregor foiled him as he threw an arm upwards to tip the ball over the bar. From the resultant corner, Foran again looked to score but he shot wide from an angle into the side netting. Esson tipped a Fleck shot over as the game raged on but it was at the other end that the goal came. Foran who had come alive in the second half dispossessed Broadfoot and after some neat interplay laid the ball into the box where substitute Odhiambo produced his own bundle of joy as he rolled the ball through McGregor for a deserved equaliser. Cue a rendition of “that’s why we’re champions” breaking out from the shoehorned Inverness supporters, some who even bared their chests, what a Dude. No more than Inverness deserved and they could have snatched it at the end had Papac’ Nemesis Jonny Hayes not tried for glory instead of squaring the ball. Another teasing run saw him drive into the box and from an acute angle he tried to do the difficult thing and curve it into the far corner, however the ball drifted just over. In a frenetic finish both teams tried to get the winner, but a draw was the final outcome. Full Time: Rangers 1-1 Inverness CT. No failures for Inverness. Grant Munro produced the goods on and off the park and he gets my vote for MotM, ably assisted by Rossco at the heart of the defence. Jonny Hayes was an absolute star as he mesmerised Papac, who will still be unwinding today. Great support in midfield and everyone played their part, with Duff being one of the coolest players on the park, and youngsters Ross and Shinnie showing why the future is bright, the future is Caley Thistle. As I said, no failures, only shining stars, so a Blue Peter Badge for everyone, including the supporters and referee.
  14. Mo feckin Edu !!!! I hated it when he left Toronto FC, and hate it that he is now scoring against ICT !!!!
  15. seem to have started well in this "Battle of the Champions" . Here's hoping some of the Rangers players have a bit of an eye on the Valencia game. Anyone hear McCoist before the game ??? Very complimentary about ICT and did not seem to be taking us lightly whatsoever. Not just the usual diplomatic bullshit we tend to hear either, sounded like he knew what he was talking about and was genuine in his praise !!!
  16. Thanks Ross, appreciate you staying within the site rules. ....

  18. I am sure Kirishima can testify that Parkhead is not always fun !!! Wrong place wrong time and walked into a fist if i remember correctly ... someone else in the same spot at the same time instead of him would have suffered the same fate as it was a random act of violence rather than a reaction to any provocation. Having said that, I never had any bother the 2 or 3 times I went to parkhead (never been to Ibrox so cant comment).
  19. Wasnt that a comedy sketch once ?.... East Fife 5, Forfar 4
  20. Many thanks to you Guzz for continuing to organise our group sponsorship of Caley Thistle players. Glad to hear we were able to increase our sponsorship this year despite the machinations of one former member of the site.
  21. I have to say that *this season* i have been looking from the top down as we are doing pretty well .... but then I scan down the table, ignoring most of the teams between us and bottom and just make sure St Midden are still down there ...... most other seasons - assuming we are in mid to lower end of the table, i have tended to scan 2 or 3 teams either side of us and ignore the rest, especially the top two.
  22. Mahonio, just to put your mind at rest, you dont get banned for receiving red dots !!! you get banned for breaking the site rules and you have not done that ... I am going to close this thread now as I think it has (unfortunately) answered all the questions or doubts I may have had about the reputation system.
  23. for those outside the UK unable to view the BBC highlights, they are now up on the official site: http://www.ictfc.co.uk/page/matchhighlights/0,,10447,00.html
  24. I definitely wish Robbo all the best at East Fife, and will be looking for the results now. Am also sure it is just the first step back into a bigger job somewhere down the line (no disrespect intended to EF). Kinda sad he will now be absent from OAM though .... suggested in an email to him a couple of weeks back that maybe he could persuade his bosses to swap him and Brian Irvine around some weeks at the TCS so we didnt feel suicidal every single week listening to the Irvine Monotone. Good luck Robbo, you know we all mean it !
