CaleyThistleOnline has been asked by 'Bronson', one of our long time members, to post the following story/information regarding an organisation called Cafe Football and we are happy to oblige. My name is Simon Macdonald and I work for the Highland Council as a family support worker. Over the years I have helped to create a football group for teenagers with learning, physical, social and emotional difficulties who attend all the home Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club games. I have developed a great relationship with ICT and was recently approached about becoming involved with an organisation called "CAFE FOOTBALL" . CAFE stands for "Centre for Access to Football in Europe" and one of their vision's is to improve the footballing experience for supporters with disabilities by setting up local supporters groups and raising awareness of any issues. CAFE FOOTBALL have the support of Uefa, the SPL and the SFL and are to meet with the SFA soon. Disability Support Associations are now in place at Aberdeen, Dundee, Dundee United, Dunfermline, East Fife, Falkirk, Hearts, Kilmarnock, Livingston, Motherwell and Rangers and all these clubs have pledged their support. Although DSA's are not in place at Airdrie, Celtic, Hibs, ICT, St Johnstone and St. Mirren, positive contacts have been established and it is hoped that they will soon be on board too. I have been in touch with Keith Ferguson the UK and Eire Development Officer and we have arranged a meeting on Monday 25th October at 7pm at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium to which any disabled supporters, family members, carers and representatives from organisations are invited. Keith will be there and will hopefully be able to gain the views of those interested and look into the possibility of creating a Disabled Supporters Association for the club. I would also appreciate it if you could forward this information to anyone you think would be interested in attending the meeting and I ask that those interested in attending send me a private message to enable me to gauge interest levels and numbers. [send PMs to username Bronson] I look forward to meeting all interested parties on the 25th, Regards Simon Macdonald
  2. It is fitting that a preview such as this one coincides with the introduction of an article rating system .... someone mentioned a couple of weeks back how it might be nice to be able to give the equivalent of green dots to our previews and reports and it was a relatively easy ask. The rating system is now in effect for stories and the comments you can add to them ......
  3. For those viewing on a small screen ....... It is ?10.00 for adults, ?5.00 for concessions A hospitality ticket costs ?30.00 and includes ticket, programme, buffet, tea/coffee etc - all the usual stuff For sponsorship or other questions you can email [email protected] or call 07812560548

Very sad news indeed. A man who put plenty of work into the club, and for its fans, as a volunteer. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered. My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.
  6. Don - think this is worthy of an advertisement on the front page of the site and forum just as we did with Barry ...... you caneven hide the QR code for a while if necessary LOL
  7. Its crazy when you think about it ...... selling him for a 'knockdown' ?50m would pay off about 10% of Man Utd's debt .... but for us it would pay our operating costs for something in the region of 10 years (or more) !!!
  8. not really .... the OP has posed a simple question based on stuff posted elsewhere on the forum and invited comments. It is heartening to see that most of us disagree that the bubble has burst and think all three will continue to improve as the season goes on. For me, our season is shaping up well. A couple of disappointments (thats football !!!) but after 8 games we are in 4th place and only have 3 more games to go before we have played everyone once .... We have seen Rooney can score in the SPL, maybe not as much as some would like but he can hit the net. Eric is a new player and Jonny Hayes has terrorised a defence or two. Richie is just coming back to fitness, Esson has picked up where he left off and in Nick Ross we seem to have a pretty talented youngster who doesnt look out of his depth ...... It could all still go pear shaped but for now, its reasonably positive .....
  9. Depends on whose article you read .... but all the talk of taking him to Madrid seems to be coming from former president Ramon Calderon and not the person who really matters these days .... Jorge Valdano, who was quoted as saying
  10. It is still good enough to be joint 2nd in the SPL scoring charts .... According to the SPL website, Rooney has 4 goals from 22 shots - 14 on target - in all SPL games. There are other strikers on the list who have had more shots yet the same or less goals .... Incidentally, Ryan Esson is also second in the SPL in clean sheets (2) - the same as McGregor.

Inverness Utd and Inverness City would not be options as both are registered with the SFA already. Highland FC sounds ridiculous (IMHO) and of the choices Inverness FC is probably theonly one I would vote for .... Having said that, as most people call us Inverness, ICT or Caley Thistle anyway, I dont think a change of name will achieve anything.
  12. Saints and Sinners An abject display by the home side in the first half saw Saints take a stranglehold on the proceedings. Collin Samuel stole in at the back post to prod the visitors ahead after the Inverness defence inexplicably let a probing through ball find the dreadlocked striker on his lonesome. Butcher was not a happy bunny at half time but things improved in the second period, well they could not possibly have got worse for the home side, and Jonny Hayes outstripped the Perth defence to slide a ball below Smith to secure a draw. 16th October 2010 Tulloch Caledonian Stadium Inverness Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1 - Hayes (72) TEAM: Esson, Shinnie, Munro, Tokely, McCann (Duncan 68), Duff, Hayes, Ross, Odhiambo (Sutherland 85), Foran, Rooney SUBS: Tuffey, Golabek, McBain, Morrison, Sanchez BOOKED: Hayes (81), Duff (82) St Johnstone 1 - Samuel (8) TEAM: Smith, MacKay, Grainger, Duberry, Maybury, Morris, Millar, Craig, Parkin (Haber 64), Samuel (Myrie-Williams 72), Jackson SUBS: Enckelman, Rutkiewicz, Dobie, Caddis, Moffat BOOKED: MacKay (50), Grainger (56), Smith (72), Myrie-Williams (83), Maybury (90) Referee Alan Muir Attendance 4282 Davie saw the game like this:- If we fast forward to the end of this game, the sighs of relief were audible from all sides of the ground, for all sorts of reasons. ICT had almost committed grand larceny at the end of this one, having produced one of the worst first half displays that I can remember for this team. The Perth Saints sighs were on account of the fact that they returned the favour in the second half. In a frankly dire first half, only Ryan Esson acquitted himself. The rest must have been traumatised at the mere thought of Butcher's half time verbal onslaught. The man was apoplectic. From the first minute, it was evident that fankle was going to be the word of the day as far as the ICT defence went, and Grantie and Co obliged with a textbook demonstration of the meaning of the word. We were not coping with the ball down the flanks, and Jackson's 5th minute header over the bar was a harbinger. Doom was duly supplied by Colin SAMUEL in seven minutes, who ghosted round the back of the ICT defence as Tokely inexplicably ducked out of a header. Esson came out but was beaten by Samuels' low drive. 0-1. After that, the first half was a bomb scare as our central defence missed almost everything and only Esson kept us in it with several good stops, the best of which was against Parkin who was clean through. Kevin McCann looked like a lad short of game time and he'll want to forget that first half. He'll have that in common with the rest of us. I can't remember a decent first half chance until 43 minutes from a Rooney shot that went wide so if it's OK with you dear reader, we'll draw a veil over the rest of it. Half time: Inverness CT 0 St. Johnstone 1 The general feeling at half time was that Butcher must have taken the paint off the walls in the interval chit chat; it couldn't be that bad in the 2nd half and someone had to go. It was McCann, but only after 68 minutes. Improvement was not quickly evident, as the same side duly came out and a couple of tidy Saints efforts came and, thankfully, went. Some of the tackling was beginning to get "tasty" and in 49 minutes the ref booked MacKay for a breenge on Foran. Rooney made a great chance from the resultant free kick, but the end result was tame. The half was then a procession of Saints possession, but notably more organized resistance from ICT. Rooney had another shot after drifting in from the left, again saved by Smith. This neatly coincided with Russel Duncan coming on for McCann, departing the scene of the crime early. Jonny Hayes, meanwhile, showed signs of having woken up but he must have regretted it – every time he wakes up, he gets kicked. Time after time after time it happened today, Grainger being booked for his robust efforts. It must have annoyed Jonny greatly, because in 70 minutes Odhiambo fed Foran, who swiftly moved the ball on to the self same Jonny HAYES who put a low left foot shot under Smith from 15 yards as he attempted to relocate him back to Dublin on the end of his boot. Hayes in a heap, 1-1. After that, the Perth Saints went into their shell and there was only one team who looked likely to win. Rooney headed a glorious chance straight at Smith when scoring looked easy, Foran headed over and Hayes tried a few tricks before ending up in a heap again. Butcher's first half apoplexy was replaced by a similar whirling dervish display from McInnes in the second half as Inverness took over proceedings. Hayes eventually had enough and was booked for a hilariously bad tackle on Myrie-Williams. It's just not your game, wee man. Duff got him back though. 90 minutes was greeted by the happy realization that it was over and we wouldn't have to watch that again. It's not even on ALBA, and it's bound to get the end slot on Sportscene. Whew! Referee was Alan Muir, who entered into the spirit of things with some unfathomable decisions, but I think even he was happy with a draw in the end. I know I was.
  13. according to Sportsound, Butcher was doing his nut just before half time ..... I have a feeling that those left standing after his team talk will do better in the second !!!
  14. feck ... Samuel ... the one man I hoped wouldnt score !!! Not exactly a firm favourite with Toronto fans after his unproductive spell with TFC

  18. Yup, I would echo that, He would not be in our top 3 goalkeepers in most people's lists (Esson, Calder, Brown, for me in case anyone is interested) but he was a reasonable enough keeper who did his best for us and most of the time that was good enough. Good luck to the lad and here's hoping he finds form, enjoyment, and happiness at his new club.
  19. Nahh, those of us who do remember all the early days are just old farts Charles ... the torch has been passed to a new generation
  20. yup, dropped in my estimation there too .... you admit you 'screwed up' in prague, you praise the effort in coming close against the world and european champions and you restore a bit of pride ... now he just looks like a greeting faced nyaff

  22. Daisy was an enigma ..... a grafter and a good honest pro, but lacking in the polished skills that might have taken him further. We really should have thought he was crap, especially as we climbed the leagues, but because of his honesty and effort I think we all appreciated him and cut hinm a good bit of slack.
  23. Scotty replied to SMEE's topic in Caley Thistle
Its pretty difficult to say that one individual is always going to be the key player in a team sport ..... Every single player that takes the field is important to ICT and the 'key' player may change from game to game based on formation, tactics and other factors. If Esson is having a bad day then we ship goals, same for Rossco and Granty. If Duncan, Cox or Duff are playing badly then we lose that defensive midfield quality that can not only start moves but break up opposition ones, and if Jonny or Eric are out of sorts then we lose some creativity in getting the ball to Rooney who could also be classed as a key player given that he is often the lone striker. Having said all that, I think I would have to agree on Foran's importance to the team. He is the glue that holds all the parts together and we certainly missed him when he was unavailable.
  24. We played them twice in our first season ..... I have a feeling you mean the second game. It was great, very exciting !!! also my first ever experience of hospitality as I was an official representative of the sponsors that night ! How times have changed from then when it was a portakabin arrangement in the NW corner of the ground with CT officials going round pouring rather large measures straight out of a bottle http://stats.caleythistleonline.com/matchdetails.php?id=111 http://stats.caleythistleonline.com/matchdetails.php?id=118 for me there are so many highs ..... I think the best loss I have ever experienced was that 4-3 game at Livingston. It was as good as Bill Leckie's eloquent description. The Ayr game that Charles refers to was also good. It was in the Pele days when even at 0-3 down at HT you knew we could still come back ... and we did. The 7-3 game against Ayr just a few weeks later was also a brilliant one. Beating Celtic at Celtic park on Feb8 2000 has to rank up there as one of the best too. It is now folklore and with the headline that followed it was THE result that put us firmly on the Scottish football map. Having said that, I preferred the atmosphere at the Hearts game at Tynecastle a couple of years later .... pi**ing rain and a large group of us belting out Travis at the end of the game was so much fun. Since moving over here, I would have to say that any time I get home to see any match in person is now a real high for me ... win, lose or draw, and until my last trip home I had not seen us lose (in person) since emigrating.
