The penalties yesterday
Yeah, Mark Brown was never good with penalties when he was with us. great shot stopper but not from the penalty spot. Esson on the other hand is more Calder-ish in his penalty saving abilities ... Also good to note that we have what seems to be a confident and capable penalty taker in Rooney who doesnt have many saved/missed. We havent had a penalty taker willing to step up to the mark on a consistent basis since Paul Sheerin.

embarrassed hibs fan view
Cheers for the link, they seem almost human. DaveF at post 16 made me register to reply and say I appreciated his comments. unfortunately, the registration is not automatic after confirming your account so i could not post but fair play to the Hibs fans ... they are as embarrassed as we are when our own stewards act up !!!!!!

Hibernian -V- Inverness CT - Report
Adam Rooney salvaged a draw for Inverness from the spot after Derek Riordan opened the scoring early on for Hibernian. It was a tale of two penalties, with Riordan missing one for Hibs before Rooney earned the visitors a share of the points. Inverness manager Terry Butcher will be more pleased with the result than his counterpart, as Hibs passed up some great opportunities to make the points safe, but as Hibs left the door open, substitute Danni Sanchez was brought down to let ICT take a point back up the A9. 11th September 2010 Easter Road Stadium, Edinburgh HIBERNIAN 1 - Riordan (8) TEAM: Brown, Hart (Thicot 61), Dickoh, Bamba, Grounds, Wotherspoon, De Graaf (Galbraith 68), Miller, McBride, Nish, Riordan SUBS: Smith, Hogg, Murray, Hanlon, Rankin INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE 1 - Rooney (81pen) TEAM: Esson, Proctor, Munro, Tokely, Gillet (Innes 46), Duff, Cox, Hayes, Odhiambo (Sutherland 79), Rooney, Ross (Sanchez 67) SUBS: Tuffey, McBain, Duncan, Morrison Referee Crawford Allan Attendance 10,358 Capital Punishment for some ICT fans at Easter road as stewarding reaches a new low. A number of Inverness fans were not around at the final whistle to congratulate the team on a hard earned draw after stewards removed them from the stands for supporting their team. The fans had to endure being heavily scrutinised by a cordon of stewards and police for the entire match and the old stand up sit down enforcement meant an early bath for some. Terry Butcher handed Stuart Duff a start at the expense of Russell Duncan with young Nick Ross continuing to fill the hole left by the absence of Richie Foran. Danni Sanchez started on the bench alongside Chris Innes and Shane Sutherland, but all three were to play their part before the day was done. David Proctor filled Kevin McCann's boots as he was not allowed to play against his loan arrangers, possibly a blessing in disguise as Kev maybe needs a bit of time to recover from his injury. The rest of the team picked itself with the ever so reliable Ryan Esson retaining the number one jersey. John Hughes began life after Anthony Stokes with big Colin Nish up front and Derek Riordan given a free role to run at the ICT defence at every opportunity. David Wotherspoon backed up both front men brilliantly. At the back the introduction of Ghanaian Francis Dickoh was to help shore up Hibs shakey defence and give the team something to build from, and with Sol Bamba alongside him, things were looking solid at the back for Hibs, with Hart and Grounds making up the back four. With Mark Brown in goals for the Hibs, would it be ironic if we were to get a penalty and he saved it?........Let's see what happens next, over to Ginger Jaggy........ Hibernian Report from Ginger Jaggy On Saturday we travelled to the capital to face Hibs at Easter Road with Caley Thistle returning to the highlands with a hard earned point. The result stretched Butchers boys fine away record which has been unbeaten on league duty since the trip to Partick last Novemeber. For Hibs it continued a miserable run of 7 without a win at home going back to March. But it had started so well for them to break that sequence. Derek Riordan was a thorn in Inverness’ side all day but could only get one goal to show for a brilliant individual performance. Hibs started well with Riordan causing problems, but on his first attempt he dragged wide of Esson’s goal. Then Riordan again was played in behind the heart of the ICT defence but Esson manged to knock the ball out of his control with an outstretched arm. But the goal for Riordan was coming, and after a few warnings he opened the deadlock with a fine solo effort showing real composure to nutmeg David Proctor and finish low under the body of Esson. Eight minutes gone and Hibs looked like they were going to end up with an easy three points. After going behind Terry Butcher’s men finally started to play and caused ex Caley Thistle keeper Mark Brown some problems. Jonny Hayes was getting more into the game driving forward causing the Hibs full backs all sorts of trouble. Grant Munro got too much on a flashing cross and powered a header high into the Hibs end from the front post area. But it was the other Inverness winger Nick Ross who was involved in a controversial moment. Ross tried to control the ball on his chest in the box but was shoved from behind by new Hibs signing Francis Dickoh. Referee Crawford Allan waved play on even though it looked like a stonewall penalty. Hibs continued to press, David Wotherspoon had a shot that narrowly curled wide, and just on half time David Proctor gave the ball away cheaply to Wotherspoon who lacked composure in dragging the shot wide. Caley Thistles best chance came from some good play by Hayes who found Odiambo in the box and he cut it to Rooney who had his shot brilliantly saved by the legs of Mark Brown from inside the six yard box. HT 1-0 The second half was everything you want in a football match with chances galore and plenty of talking points. First blood went to Hibs and that man Riordan who had a free kick brilliantly saved by Ryan Esson when it looked to have dipped into the top corner. Caley Thistle were next to come close when Rooney was sent clear after a brilliant reverse pass from Nick Ross and his sweetly struck drive cannoned back off the post with Brown beaten. Then Hibs took control for a period with Colin Nish being ever more influential dropping short pulling Munro and Innes all over the place to allow Riordan the space. But it was Liam Miller who found space to cut the Inverness backline in half as Nish ran through, but his shot was saved by Esson and the rebound fell kindly to Edwin De Graaf who transpired to miss the empty net to the dismay of the home fans and the delight of the visiting support. Hibs had another chance to kill the game off when Riordan set up Nish who reversed it back to Riordan, and he ran on he was felled by Proctor who was booked for his troubles. But Riordan’s spot kick rattled back off the post and Caley Thistle were able to clear it to safety. The closing stages were a bit more even with chances coming for both sides. First came the equaliser from Adam Rooney. Danni Sanchez was brought on, and he tormented the Hibs defence with some quick feet, in fact too quick for Steven Thicot. The Hibs substitute made a rash challenge and the ref had no choice but to point to the spot for the second time in the game. Rooney stepped up and expertly buried the ball into the bottom corner past a despairing Mark Brown. Shane Sutherland had an opportunity to steal the points for Inverness but he volleyed just over from eight yards. The jubilation from the away fans was halted temporarily by Hibs in stoppage time after they thought they had won the game when Wotherspoon turned the ball into the net but was immediately flagged offside and the Hibs jubilation suddenly turned into a mass exodus as the final whistle sounded seconds later. The game ended in a draw and Terry Butcher will hope Caley Thistle can pick up their first home win of the season against Hearts next week. MotM was possibly Riordan, with Bamba and Dickoh mopping up most Inverness attacks, although the introduction of Sanchez gave ICT more outlets as Nick Ross had a quiet day. Adam Rooney battled away to the end and was my ICT top player. He was unfortunate not to score from the inch perfect through ball from Ross and enjoyed some success late in the game as the Hibs back line became more stretched. It is becoming increasingly obvious that the sooner Richie Foran returns the better, as we were unable to keep the ball when pushing forward, but still a great experience for some of the youngsters playing at Hibs ground with the new stand looking good, pity about the stewarding.

Former ICT defender Richard Hastings NOT in the Canada squad to face Peru tomorrow and Honduras on Tuesday. Hastings lost out on a place as manager Stephen Hart elected to call in youngsters Nana Attakora (21)[Toronto FC/MLS] and Adam Straith (19)[Energie Cottbus/Germany]. Toronto FC have 3 players in the squad for this weekend's games and it seems Hastings will be pushed even further down the pecking order as the manager indicated his other choice to call up (Adrian Cann from Toronto FC) was left out as MLS doesnt cancel games for International weekends and he felt it unfair to take 4 players straight out of the TFC starting lineup for a friendly.

ICT Online since 1994
for the first year or two we never even had a forum - they werent really that well developed at that stage. We had a guestbook !!! It wasnt really until we moved to Freeserve that we had a rudimentary forum and then the first proper one was rivals. The initial purpose of the guestbook / basic forum was indeed just that - organising to meet up with like minded ICT fans on matchdays, especially those from out of town who perhaps didnt know whereto go and I do recall that one of the first (set of) friends I made on the very earliest incarnation of the site was the Gringo family who I am happy to say remain good and trusted friends to this day. Feb 9th 2000 was a huge day for us .... seem to recall we got more than 100,000 page views on that DAY from a huge number of unique users. Memories ....... I still have the photos !!! Here is an unofficial mockup prepared by one of the site users at the time ..... this pic was posted before anyone had seen the official architect drawings .... and here are a few 'official' ones prepared by architects. As you will see, they toyed with many options from low level stands (or terracing) on North and West sides, to one big North Stand or some combination of both .... Interestingly enough, at the time, the South Stand was not even considered. and finally ....... a picture taken straight from a drawing hanging on the wall of the stadium manager's office a little later that showed most of the architects ideas were binned and that the club were looking at North and South stands .....

ICT Online since 1994
People's priorities change, people fall out with me, Don or the mods, or each other and go elsewhere (P&B) .... its a dynamic environment and it changes from year to year ..... Funny thing about Seoras - he actually had an ICT website too. I think he did it as a uni project and I think it was actually around for a short time before CTO.
-
ICT Online since 1994
mmm, let me see ....... erm 1994 !!! and not only do I remember SportNetwork but I remember all of our incarnations ..... We might have moved homes a few times but we are and always have been CTO no matter where we rested our opinions here's a potted history. We started with an ISP who had a URL of www.thenet.co.uk where you had to have a name after their domain in this style www.thenet.co.uk/~websitename Then we moved to Freeserve when they came along as we could get an almost normal website name and while with Freeserve we became the "almost official site" of the club who had no interest in the Internet. We were then asked to join a new startup called Rivals.net which at the time was owned and operated by Chrysalis and stayed with them for a couple of years. When Rivals dumped all Scottish sites (except the OF) and most English sites outside the top two divisions we were asked to join SportNetwork which was setup by the owner of one of the ex-rivals sites. I would say SportNetwork was the best experience until we then decided about 6 years ago to part company with them and started developing this site on our own hosting. While we were with SN we became the official site of the club for a few years. Our departure from SN also heralded the end of our status as the official site and ictfc.co.uk became the official site whilst we carried on as CTO. However we did provide the club with a temporary official site whilst PTV were building theirs ! In the 6 years we have been truly independent we have also gone through a few incarnations on here... we have changed forum software 3 times and now use what is regarded as the best commercial forum software available (especially as Vb has declined). I look back to what it was in 94 and what it is now and there truly is no comparison ..... As for users, I think we have all made a few friends over the years, and I would say some of them are very good friends. We have also had a few arguments and maybe even lost the odd friend from those arguments ... such is life. We have been responsible for introducing quite a few couples, some of whom have gone on to have weddings and children, not necessarily in that order and sadly, we have also lost a few people along the way as we know this week with "Caley Ally". All in all its been a blast for the last 16 years .... and here's to the next few ..... I am sure I will pass the torch on to someone else at some point but there is definitely life left in the old dog yet

Our Old Boss
Yup, good luck to Pele and regardless of his personal demons that seem to make him 'unemployable' it is still a bit of a coup for a Highland League side to get a manager who has managed teams in all four senior divisions in Scotland. I dont know much about Forbes Shand but to him for "taking a chance" on Pele and hopefully it is good for Pele too as it sounds like he will be working with a man he trusts, who already has faith in him, and who can hopefully keep him on the straight and narrow should temptation rear its ugly head again. Will start looking out for the Huntly scores now !

Singing Section
Mods are watching the thread and it is for them to decide to leave it open or to close it. Some of the "banter" is coming close to abuse IMHO but as yet not a single person has made a complaint about this thread using the report button ....... so we wait and watch until such time as one of the mods feels it has gone too far or until a legitimate complaint is made, discussed and acted upon. Having only sat in the North Stand once, I cant really comment on 'section G' or the lads within the group that are singing. I know they have courted controversy on more than one occasion and also had run-ins with stewards, police and during his tenure, Mike Smith. sometimes they were justifiably targetted because they overstepped the mark, and they have to realise and hold their hands up to this. however at other times - and i did see this with my own eyes on one of my trips home - they were picked on for no apparent reason other than they were easy targets for the stewards and others need to give them the benefit of the doubt on this. However, having read through this entire thread (not just one or two posts) I would make the following comments .... Trying to get a singing section on the go started years ago, probably long before many of the current 'singers' were even in primary school !!! The problem then - as it is now - seems to be location. In the days of terracing it was not so much of a problem as people could move about and/or congregate in various areas, but with all seated stadia its a lot harder and efforts to designate sections for singing have failed for multiple reasons - Initially, when a singing section was proposed and people were encouraged to ask for tickets in a specific part of the ground (before the west stand idea) there was little or no uptake by the singers so it failed. It reared its head again when AS was chairman and the West Stand idea was born. It was a decent idea in principle but had shabby implementation/rules and facilites (a ridiculous entry criteria/method and no roof etc to help intensify the sound and protect the singers from the elements). Now we have a situation where we have the family section right next to the section where the singers have decided they prefer to congregate and where other fans also want to sit in peace in seats they have occupied for years - in that scenario there is no way everyone is going to be kept happy with any decision of the club. Emotions will always run high in discussing this as each group jockeys for position. Parents - who may not be too bothered by their kids hearing the odd swear word - are rightly concerned that their kids are not protected from the worst of the language even though they have chosen to buy tickets in a supposedly 'family' area. That concern is a reasonable reaction. The singers are concerned that they are being stigmatised and picked upon and they can show specific examples of where this has actually been the case. and the others in that stand who may have sat in their seats for years are also baulking at some suggestions that things could be improved by moving people around. Again, I have no problem with that as when I had a season ticket it took me two years of moving around various parts of the main stand to figure out what seat I wanted and I would have resisted moving from that seat tooth and nail as I reckoned they were the best seats in the ground (hell, I even transferred my season ticket seat to Big Stew's dad when I moved over here so he could get into that area). So given that there is no prospect of pleasing everyone if you implement a single solution then maybe the answer is to compromise a little ...... 1. The singers need to tone down the offensive stuff. 'F'ing and 'C'ing is not big nor clever and doing it constantly will just alienate more folk than it embraces. It will also make it harder for people outside your group to spring to your defence or even to join you in trying to create an atmosphere. You can portray yourselves as victims as much as you like, and disagree with those giving you this kind of advice but if you are to have any credibility and gain any traction in your quest to get others to join you then you have to do it. I sit in a crowd of 20,000+ every other week at TFC and right slap bang in the middle of the supporters section which is 100 times more boisterous than the TCS has ever been. the songs/chants can be near the knuckle at times but they stay on the right side of the line ... As each TFC game is broadcast live on TV across the US and Canada the club would be down on us like a ton of bricks if we pushed it too far !!! 2. The family section punters need to realise they are at a football match and not a church. I realise that the vast majority of people in there are accepting of the odd bit of bad language because of this, but if you dont want to hear any bad language, then I am sorry, Scottish football is not for you. However, they are correct in being upset at extreme and sustained bad language right next to the family area. 3. The quiet ones who just want to sit in their normal seats and enjoy the game should be allowed to do so .... However, perhaps the club could work with the singers to find suitable areas within the North Stand to accomodate the singers without affecting those people? We have 7753 seats and only a fraction of them are held by season ticket holders so it should not be difficult to find an area where the current crop of singers can be accommodated without moving any people at all - or maybe only a few (if they agree). Terry Butcher has appealed more than once for some noise from the home crowd so perhaps some people - if asked to move - could view it as doing a selfless task to help the team achieve what TB thinks they can if given the vocal backing he has asked for ? Oh ..... and bring back "safe standing areas" !!!!!!

IHE has gone from the top of the negative table to the top of the positive table pretty much based on this post alone .... Ross Tokely
I am sure I heard somewhere that Tommy Cumming is retiring at the end of this season .... someone like him who has given up his time for little reward (other than satisfaction) over a large number of years to ensure the pitch (and the kit) remains in pristine condition in all weathers and in all months of the year whilst remaining a background figure and unsung hero of the club is more deserving of some recognition than a player IMHO. I mean no disrespect to Ross, whose contribution and loyalty to ICT over the years has been phenomenal and definitely deserving of our (and the club's) recognition but I always feel the honours system is somewhat devalued by the sheer number of awards given to some people - especially sports men and women and actors/actresses - just for doing their normal "day job" ! There are so many people who just get on with life but make a positive contribution through volunteering, doing selfless tasks, charity work, service provision, etc who never get the recognition they deserve because they go about it quietly or almost anonymously and are not famous or at least well known.....

Caledonian FC V Aberdeen
I remember a game Vs Aberdeen at Telford St in the late 80s - not sure if it was this one or not - seem to remember it was a testimonial .... Roddy Davidson springs to mind but I could be wrong. The game I am thinking of had the likes of Willem Van Der Ark etc playing for the Dons. not sure who was manager though - if it was 89 or thereabouts it would have been Alex Smith either on his own or with Jocky Scott.
