moved to main board as story now seems confirmed from multiple sources.
  2. Is McBain suspended ? I saw the highlights and he did get a straight red, but the after match interview with the Doc suggested he thought it would be in the refs report as a second yellow. If its a second yellow, I believe he may still be eligible ....... Assuming that McBain is indeed suspended then we have to hope that Hastings is back from injury as the idea of Zadi makes you shudder, and Munro is not a left back in the same way that Proctor is not a centre-half. Can Byrne, Mihadjuks or McGuire play on the left ?
  3. Met him a couple of times and had no problem with him ... In fact, during his and CB's first stint at ICT, he went out of his way to hang around and have a chat with me when I was down at the stadium for a meeting with Mike Smith.
  4. All I can say is CONGRATULATIONS and GOOD LUCK. I have liked what I have heard so far (interviews) and hope that you can inspire, lead and motivate our team in the same way as you did for England, Rangers, and Motherwell (and most of the others too). We need the passion back, and as you said in one of those interviews, we need to return to the days where we made it difficult for other teams to get points from ICT. I believe you are a man who can do that. This "tagline" has been missing from HMS Sneck for a couple of seasons now, but I hope most of us can now once again say ....... I BELIEVE
  5. REMINDER: "We will start with a reserve price of ?10 and bids should increment by at least ?1 per bid"
  6. I'm more of the opinion, once a pr!ck always a pr!ck Care to explain that remark please - A PM will do.
  7. IHE, I never forget ! Forgive yes, but forget, no.
  8. Or any old white top, bloodstained along with the bandage.. It be a nice touch and a great way to welcome the big man... I like this idea ..... taking CaleyD's bandage idea and combining it with a white top would be a humorous way to welcome the man in a game that will be seen by millions on TV. Played right, it could cement an instant bond between him and the supporters that Brewster never had (in his second stint).
  9. To Barry Robson ... after last week's FK ... "You only wish you were Imrie ...."

on post 56, the top right one is very "England-like" ... maybe TB will choose that one LOL
  11. Doesnt matter where the money is coming from ..... someone has realised that relegation would cost us far far more than that.
  12. Its like any conversation you will hear amongst ICT fans anywhere ...... some will be delighted its Butcher some will be saddened its not <insert name of candidate here> some will be on his case immediately because he didnt win, win win every where he has been some will ask for him to at least get a few games under his belt before the moaning starts At the end of the day, its all about opinion and everyone is entitled to their own one which they can express on here (so long as its within our existing rules of course). My opinion is that we have dispensed with the worst manager in ICT history and a new era begins. Brewster is probably a decent man, I don't know. I only met him once, and Malky about twice .... but regardless of anything, the stats show they were far and away the worst managerial partnership ever to have darkened our doors. That era is (thankfully) now gone and Terry Butcher is in charge. Forget Brentford, forget Sydney, forget every other job he has done. He is at ICT now and judging by his TV/Radio interviews, he is up for the fight, has done a bit more homework on Inverness than "joke candidate" Ossie, and has previous experience at a struggling SPL side. At Motherwell, which is - in my opinion - the only job you can really judge him on in terms of comparison with ICT (SPL / Struggling / Malpas as his #2 etc) he worked wonders. He didnt manage to finish away from the bottom after taking over but what manager would have after having to cull his squad to the bare bones and work with a squad that at times had no first team players over the age of 21. However, once he was able to start steadying them, he took them to Hampden several times, finished in the top six twice and generally did extremely well under the circumstances. What do I expect from him at ICT? I expect him to instill the same sort of fight and spirit in the team that we have had in the past and was only displayed sporadically under CB. I expect him to do something to improve our defensive woes. I expect him to try and sign an older head up front that can help to turn Rooney and Wood, and maybe Barrowman (if he decides to start earning his money) into the strikers we hope they can be. I expect him to improve our tactics/set pieces. I expect him to be his own man and not put up with any nonsense from above. I expect him to continue the honest assesments he gave in post match interviews when he was at Motherwell. What do I not expect? I do not expect us to go down. I do not expect miracles, just steady progress. I do not expect him to win every game - as seen last weekend, we can all be positive about performance even during a loss. A large number of ICT fans were behind the team 100% but maybe behind Brewster 10% in the last few weeks. We need everyone to still be 100% behind the team but that 100% has to extend to Terry Butcher now as well. It doesnt matter if you wanted Robbo, Knox, Ardiles, or any of the other real (and imaginary) candidates. TB is here, he sounds like he is here to stay for a while, and he deserves our support and respect until such time as he proves he cant do it. We shouldnt be getting on his case before a ball is kicked. I personally have had enough of all the bickering, fighting and disagreements that symbolised the Brewster era on the park, off the park, and in the corridors of power. All of this led to the erosion of the ICT spirit and we need to get it back if we are to win this fight. I think (and hope) TB can do that .....
  13. Probably because ICT can afford to pay a contract to him that allowed him to relinquish Setanta, but could not meet one that would have met his Scotland & Setanta wages. Allowing him to keep one of the jobs is what could be termed a compromise ! I don't think the Scotland gig will be a hindrance .... SPL games are not scheduled on International dates. In fact, being with the Scotland setup could be a benefit as ICT players may get a more serious look-in because he wouldnt base his opinions on one or two games, and players from "unfashionable" clubs in the Scotland or U21 setup might be persuaded to come to the club where he is the manager.......
  14. I have just watched the STV interview (airport), watched the BBC one, and listened to the BBC Radio interview and I am happy that he is here to do a job, seems to know what the job is, and even knows a bit about the club already ....... Here's the links to save people having to look all over the place. I still like Karl's ones from post 56, my own one (top one) from post 6 and CaleyD's from post 50 in either red or blue.
  16. and strengthened the door hinges
  17. Someone please tell the official site that the word is "reins".... nope STV have just contacted me to let me know that there is an interview online now http://news.stv.tv/sport/72508-terry-butch...be-a-challenge/
  18. I knew you would be happy Bob BUT you are right ... its time to "Back the Butcher" and start climbing the table.
  19. given the fact that we know ZERO about the contract he has been offered, then this is a fairly big leap. He may have said no to the "end of season" option, that may have been one of the things being ironed out as reported by press this morning. Would YOU take a job where you may be asked to give up a lucrative sideline if the job term was 4 months? Equally, we dont know if there is some relegation clause in there from club or from Butcher himself. Lets see where the chips fall and get all p***** Off when we have reason to do so rather than before it. One thing is for sure - his appointment is a step up from Brewster. Mine is - I would have preferred Robbo, but Butcher was also high on that list. He did a good job at Well, he seems to speak to the press honestly, no more of this "world class goal" bull**** we have heard for the last few months as an excuse for defeat, and I have a feeling that he will also be honest with the players. He may be a disciplinarian, in the same way as Brewster was, but I have a feeling that he will not be handing out fines for no good reason. Once again ..... One thing is for sure - his appointment is a step up from Brewster.
  20. Hey Brentford fans - sorry to hear he was crap for you guys, but after Brewster, the only way for ICT is up !!!! We are all hoping that Butcher will succeed here and Starchief's post a couple above this one pretty much sums it up for me. He has a speckled record but his last shot in the SPL was pretty decent despite hard circumstances. We are hoping we get the Motherwell Butcher rather than the Brentford one.
  21. I would have preferred Robbo myself but that hasnt prevented me from being positive about Butcher twice already in this thread and elsewhere. A few other posters are the same ...... so its a sizeable bit of a generalisation on your part.
  22. early indications suggest that site users feel positive it is not a 2 horse race and we can avoid the drop ...... I like both of those ideas
  23. Malpas may have proved to be inadequate as a manager so far ... but he seemed to do alright at Motherwell as an assistant to Butcher. Crap player ? 55 caps for Scotland ? 617 appearances for United ......
  24. Terry Butcher did a decent job at Motherwell with little or no resources. He took over when Black and Nevin walked and just when they had to make 19 players redundant. The club were basically penniless and although he finished bottom, what manager would have been able to finish anywhere else when the equivalent of a full first team squad had been released. Butcher relied a lot on youth and brought through the likes of McFadden and Pearson, the sale of whom, ironically steadied the financial ship. According to the Motherwell website: "Butcher?s time at Fir Park is remembered with affection. His first game saw him lead a club under threat of extinction to a 4-1 win at Rugby Park. From there he stayed with the club through difficult times, the first full season under his care, 2002-2003 saw us finish bottom, only Falkirk?s stadium problems saving us from relegation. Despite the league worries, the team ran Rangers close in the Scottish Cup semi-final. The next two years brought top six finishes, a CIS Cup Final appearance and Celtic?s title hopes scuppered in the last few minutes. 2005-2006 was Butcher?s last year and he led us to another CIS semi final, only a defensive error allowing Celtic to sneak home. At the end of the season Butcher moved to Australia to take over at Sydney FC". When he left to go to Sydney, John Boyle (and the fans) pleaded with him to stay saying he had worked miracles at the club: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...ticle714755.ece I don't think we are in anything like the state Motherwell were when he took the reins, and with one of the best youth departments in Scotland (more on that in a forthcoming article/interview with Danny) we are well placed for him to get the best out of the first team squad and bring through our own crop of talented youngsters. My only worry is his other commitments, but I will not condemn him (or the board) about that until or unless it actually proves to be an issue. As myself and others have said - the two jobs are part-time and would normally only be in focus on days or times when ICT are not playing.
