  2. I dont think the problem at United has really been the managers, it has been a combination of the manager as well as the people above and below ie. include the Chairman and the Players too. The chairman - ET is notorious for being impatient with all his managers - you cant really argue that point after so many managers in so few seasons. He needs to step back from the edge and let his manager (whoever it is that week) get on with the job. No manager can concentrate on the job in hand if he has to keep looking over his shoulder every 5 minutes to see what the chairman is saying or doing. The Players - McCall brought in a few highly paid individual players and that is what they remained - individuals. The players have to shoulder a fair bit of blame for turning up for work but not putting in performances they were capable of. Its a long time since DUFC were a 'team' in the way that ICT, St Mirren or Falkirk are. Whilst I have no love for the Buddies or the Bairns, it looks like the time spent by all three teams in the SFL have helped nurture a team spirit and a work ethic that have seen them all look safe from being relegation fodder in any of the last 3 seasons while DUFC have looked like it every season no matter who was in charge. Maybe a spell in Division 1 will help some of the players come back down to earth ? The Manager(s) - We should perhaps give Brewster a little credit for getting rid of some of the overpaid guys that had come in before he went to DUFC, but his naivety shone very brightly when he couldnt replace them and then seemed fixated on bringing several players from ICT instead of looking at what was also available elsewhere when we refused. The upshot was that in the end, he signed virtually nobody. I think the DUFC job may have been too much too soon in terms of the size of challenge he was ready for, especially with an impatient chairman, and he may prosper under the watchful eye of Leish at Dunfermline. Levein : I hope he knows what he has let himself in for ? He didnt relish the thought of a meddling chairman when he left Hearts, will this job be any different ? His pedigree for the Hearts job came from a good spell in charge at Cowdenbeath, and he hasnt really done that much at any other club he has managed. Lets not forget that McCall was also a successfull manager at - then Division 1 - Falkirk on a shoestring budget and was seen as a saviour, and we all know how that ended. I wish him luck, but fear he is going to need a **** of a lot more than that.
  3. not sure I buy that CaleyD - "terminated with immediate effect" smacks of something else ..... unless of course they told the wee man that Pele was going there and he threw a wobbler - sure it will all come out

I have a 500 mile commute each week (40 miles each way, mon-fri) and while its a pain in the ***, its normal over here. Before anyone says it, yes, I do travel on a 4 lane highway to and from work, but that just means the traffic jams are wider !!! - give me the A9 anyday !! [i could rant on about Toronto drivers, Mobile Phone users, construction, potholes, and eccentric lane-changers but that is a whole different subject and would take me off topic a bit so I wont] I do have some sympathy with him - travel might not be much of an excuse, but at the end of my day when facing a 2 hour (or longer) drive through rush hour traffic I often wonder if there might be a job for me 'closer to home' as the travel is the only aspect of my job that is not enjoyable.
  5. Charlie has made a good start but still has a lot to learn, and thats what he will do ... stay at ICT and LEARN his trade. He WILL make mistakes but one mistake I dont think he will make is to move elsewhere. Our board chose a man who is already at his dream club and wont be blinded by the lure of moving elsewhere. If he were to end up so succesful that someone like Celtic came calling, it might be hard to resist, but no way is he gonna jump ship for Tannadice, Pittodrie or anywhere else. Incidentally - for the stattos out there ... Brewster left DU after 2 wins in 28. He had 17 in 50 at ICT, and Charlie, who some felt was not a worthy successor now has 15 wins in 34 (10 draws, 9 defeats).
  6. sounds quite serious ??? That kind of wording is normally only used when something dodgy has gone on or there has been a major breach of confidence/trust .... otherwise the "mutual consent" phrase is usually trotted out a-la-Brewster.
  7. closed the poll - Brewster wins !!!
  8. I actually agree with you there. Maybe it was a "mistake" to publicly talk about committment a week or two before taking the DUFC job then ? I know a few of our fans found that very disrespectful !!! Call it the "comeuppance factor" ... I am a great believer in "what goes around comes around" and his just came around. You wont find too many ICT fans feeling sorry for him as most probably feel he got what he deserved. In fact, many will say "i told you so" as they predicted the grocer would wield the axe before he had even taken the job.
  9. I did post on another thread a few weeks ago that Brewster as a player was valuable for us before Dargo started scoring and that I also thought the fitness regime did take us up a notch. I believe Peter was responsible for a lot of the fitness routines which is one of the major reasons Brew wanted him with him when he left ICT. No harm in Brew getting the credit for the fitness regime - after all, he picks the team, both backroom and on the park and stands or falls on the results of both. I will concede that the kick up the arse for Barry - currently leading our Player of the Year voting - was all CB's doing. Barry's resurgence had as much to do with him realising he should listen to someone like Brew who was still playing at the top level at his age as it did to the fitness regime and most fans will probably agree we are leaner, meaner, and fitter now than we were under Robbo. Each manager has added something to the ICT mix, but given the nature of Brew's departure from ICT (a short time after his committment speech), you will find very few people who feel sorry for him at his latest departure.

    Brewster back?

    :oops01: :whip01: ... sorry
  11. It may be a cheap post - but now that this site is unofficial, I am allowed to have my own opinion :004: It can also be said that hindsight is a wonderful thing and of Brewster's 3 man backroom team (himself, Malky, and Peter Davidson), Peter was probably the most valuable as fitness coach.

    Brewster back?

If I were a Pars fan, I would be very very worried .... think I would urge my club to pay the 50k compensation for Robbo rather than risk losing 2 million by being relegated. :028:

  15. Christie has the potential to be the best manager we have ever had, but right now its still Pele
  16. he will say he has been misquoted and forget all about it ..... and I doubt that any of the Hearts players could be afforded by us.
  17. maybe they might next time that Tokes gets booed .... would have thought they would know this already though
  18. Of course I have :015: :015: :015: also mentioned the fact that Bayne / Bullock are former County teammates ...... they wondered why they were speaking to each other

  20. Sounde like a genuine set of compliments and memories from a man who knows Charlie very well from both playing and commercial days. :025: :025: :025:

    Hi Guys

Welcome aboard TomO ... enjoy the game. most of us dont bite, and quite a few of our supporters have an accent from your neck of the woods :004:
  22. The French FA have announced that France V Scotland in September 2007 will be played at the Parc de Prince and not the Staad de France .... thoughts ?
  23. Feck me - thats sure to halt the decline in morale !!! methinks it will be a busy transfer window at Tynecastle
  24. I think that David Sutherland / Tullochs did more for the club in a 'hands-on' manner, but I certainly cant dispute your assertion that Mr Fraser was also a significant investor in the club at a time when we really needed it. Many of us tend to forget about him when discussing the club's major contributors - possibly because he preferred to stay in the background rather than seek prominence - and I thank you for reminding us. :004:
  25. Guess we know who's getting the manager's job if Charlie ever steps down :004:
